NASCAR Preview: Gatorade Twin 125s
Date: Thursday, February 23rd, 1:00 & 3:00 (ET)
Location: Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, FL
Television Coverage: FOX

Gatorade Twin 125s Race 1 Picks
Carl Edwards (7 to 1 Odds To Win Gatorade Twin 125s at 5Dimes): And why not? Edwards was good enough to win the Bud Shootout earlier in the week, and he is surely going to be a force to be reckoned with in his section of the Twin 125s as well. Edwards is one of the top drivers on the Sprint Cup, and there is no reason to think that he at least can’t contend, especially in this relatively small field that is full of just a ton of drivers that are still just trying to make sure that they qualify for the Great American Race. There is literally nothing for Edwards to lose, and though many might think that he may hold back just a bit, knowing that his spot on the pole is already set for the 500, you might be surprised to see just how strong of a race that he runs on Thursday.

Kevin Harvick (5 to 1 Odds To Win Gatorade Twin 125s at 5Dimes): Harvick is one of the favorites to win the whole enchilada this Sunday, and he has always had a great history of running on this track. Again, there is very little for Harvick to lose and everything for him to gain in his No. 29 Chevy. Last year in the short races at Daytona, he finished seventh in the Bud Shootout and third in his Gatorade Duel Twin 125. He finished 42nd at the 500 because of a wreck, and you can bet that that is a wreck that he is going to want to get out of his mind in a hurry in the first of the Gatorade Twin 125s on Thursday.

Gatorade Twin 125s Race 2 Picks
Joey Logano (18 to 1 Odds To Win Gatorade Twin 125s at 5Dimes): We’ve been talking about this young gun for quite some time, and now that Logano has all of this garbage about who his ride will be for 2012, we know that he is going to be a force that could be reckoned with. We’ve seen what Tony Stewart has been able to do with Joe Gibbs Racing in the past, and we know that this could be the next big driver on the Sprint Cup circuit. Predictability is out the window when we are here at Daytona, even in these Twin 125s (just ask Trevor Bayne about how unpredictable Daytona can be!), and that might leave the door open for Logano to sneak into the winner’s circle with a great showing on Thursday.

Kyle Busch (4 to 1 Odds To Win Gatorade Twin 125s at 5Dimes): We’re still backing the favorite to win this version of the Twin 125s, though. Busch is going to want to come out and make a statement right away to the rest of the field that he is back and is going to be a force not just in the 500, but for this whole season. Busch has the skills to be one of the best drivers on the tour, and he is right in the prime of his career. Last year’s suspension is behind him, and Busch and his #18 M&M’s machine is sure to be right there at the end of the last race on Thursday afternoon.

The NASCAR betting lines for 2012 are out, and the green flag is about to drop on the season. Join us for our 2012 Sprint Cup predictions and the Sprint Cup odds for the year.

Carl Edwards (+600) at SportBet.com: Edwards came up literally just short of the victory for the Sprint Cup in 2011, but we tend to think that he is the most dangerous driver on the tour. Jimmie Johnson would be the logical pick, but he definitely showed some chinks in the armor last year and has already been caught with a failed inspection in 2012. Edwards’ biggest problem last year was that he just didn’t find ways to finish off races. There were a slew of Top 5s and Top 10s, but winning wasn’t always happening. If there is a way for Roush Racing to get Edwards in Victory Lane just a few more times this year, he is going to be the favorite and the leading driver once again in 2012, just as he was for the mass majority of 2011.

Tony Stewart (+650) at SportBet.com: What we definitely figured out last year was that Stewart now has the formula to be able to get the job done. All of a sudden, something sort of clicked right during the Chase for the Sprint Cup, and there couldn’t have been a better time for it. “Smoke” was able to get into Victory Lane in the first two weeks of the postseason. He’s going to have his work cut out for him this year, but there is no doubt that this is going to be one of the best drivers once again this year.

Kyle Busch (+850) at SportBet.com: Busch might be dangerous this year. He was well on his way to contending for the Sprint Cup last year before getting suspended. Matters just didn’t get any better for the bad boy of NASCAR when he was involved in a number of frustrating wrecks. He is going to be driving with a passion this year though, and he’ll be out to prove that he is as good as any driver in the world. Don’t be shocked if Busch becomes a sneaky play this year.

Kurt Busch (+3500) at SportBet.com: The driver of the No. 22 Dodge had a rough year at times, especially in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. He had seven straight races in which he finished outside of the Top 10, and that came after four out of five Top 5 finishes, including a victory at the AAA 400. Busch is a forgotten driver, and there aren’t many out there that think that he is going to contend this season. We would beg to differ, though. If he gets in the Chase, as we think that he will, these are going to be fantastic NASCAR odds on a great driver.

On Wednesday, there are a handful of games on the college basketball television schedule that we have circled that should be good ones. Check out our NCAA basketball picks for Wednesday!

College Basketball Matchup: Kansas Jayhawks @ Texas A&M Aggies
Date: Wednesday, February 22nd, 9:00 ET
Location: Reed Arena, College Station, TX
College Basketball Odds: Kansas -10
College Basketball TV Schedule: ESPN2, ESPN3.com

Here we go again with the Aggies… They only scored 62 points against the Missouri Tigers over the weekend in this building, leading to yet another loss in conference play. There is still a shot to get into the NIT, but even that looks as grim as could be. Kansas just continues to roll, and it has to be licking its chops right now after seeing Mizzou lose on Tuesday night. The door has swung wide open for the Jayhawks to claim the regular season Big XII title, and that distinction might be enough to get them a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Don’t be all that shocked if KU comes out and just rolls right away against a team that just doesn’t have the offense to keep up in this one.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Kansas -10

College Basketball Matchup: West Virginia Mountaineers @ Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Date: Wednesday, February 22nd, 7:00 ET
Location: Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center, South Bend, IN
College Basketball Odds: Notre Dame -3
College Basketball TV Schedule: ESPN2, ESPN3.com

This one is a bit puzzling to us. We just aren’t all that sure that a win over Pittsburgh all of a sudden puts the Mountaineers back on the map. Notre Dame has rolled off eight wins in a row, and though there is a sentiment that perhaps WVU is the better of these two teams, we just don’t see it. There is a reason that the Irish were able to go into Morgantown and come away with a victory, and there’s no way that we can see the boys in blue and gold getting revenge in this one unless Kevin Jones just comes up with an absolute monster of a day. Notre Dame’s defense is just too good and will frustrate the ‘Neers.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Notre Dame -3

College Basketball Matchup: UC Santa Barbara Gauchos @ Long Beach State 49ers
Date: Wednesday, February 22nd, 11:00 ET
Location: The Pyramid, Long Beach, CA
College Basketball Odds: Long Beach State -9
College Basketball TV Schedule: ESPN2, ESPN3.com

All of a sudden, there are a lot of eyes on Long Beach State. This is the type of game that the 49ers just aren’t going to be able to afford to lose if they are going to get into the NCAA Tournament as an at large bid. What we have to remember though, is that this is a team that is absolutely dominating in the Big West this year, and we just don’t see it losing games. That being said, UC Santa Barbara is a solid team, and it is one that does have its share of solid victories in conference this year. Don’t fall into the public trap of backing the 49ers on Wednesday night. In the last game of the night, take the points. We won’t see an upset, but we might see a fantastic game between two of the best mid-majors on the West Coast.

NCAA Basketball Pick: UC Santa Barbara +8

On Wednesday, there are a handful of games on the basketball television schedule that we have circled that should be good ones. Check out our NBA picks for Wednesday!

NBA Matchup: Boston Celtics @ Oklahoma City Thunder
Date: Wednesday, February 22nd, 7:00 ET
Location: Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, OK
NBA Betting Odds: No Line
NBA TV Schedule: ESPN

There’s no line yet in the clash between the Thunder and the Celtics, but assuming that that line comes out lower than double digits, there is no doubt that we are going to be backing the hosts. The offense for OKC is just out of this world at times, especially when you consider just how well Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and Serge Ibaka are playing at the moment. Boston’s big problem is that it will be without Rajon Rondo, who is suspended for this one. Brandon Bass, Chris Wilcox, Jermaine O’Neal, and Kevin Garnett could all be out of the fold in this one as well. If that turns out to be the case, there just aren’t enough bigs to body with Durant, and without Rondo, the guards aren’t there to keep up with Westbrook. This is just a bad spot to end the first half of the season for the Celtics.

NBA Pick: Oklahoma City

NBA Matchup: Los Angeles Lakers @ Dallas Mavericks
Date: Wednesday, February 22nd, 9:30 ET
Location: American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX
NBA Betting Odds: Dallas -4.5
NBA TV Schedule: ESPN

Dallas is playing tremendous ball right now, and the only team that has been able to stop it since the beginning of the month is the New York Knicks, who are also playing fantastic ball at the moment. The Lakers are winning games, but they just don’t feel like one of the elite teams in the league this year. This was really the scene of the crime, where the Mavs swept away LA from the playoffs in shocking manner last year, and now, though the Lakers won the first meeting of these two teams, we just don’t see it happening. The inner turmoil that is going on in Tinseltown right now is going to be too much to overcome against a very workmanlike Dallas squad on Wednesday.

NBA Pick: Dallas -4.5

The NCAA Tournament is only a few weeks away, and there are some fantastic teams that should be backed right now on the odds to win March Madness. Check out all of our picks!

Kansas Jayhawks (+900) at SportBet.com: Kansas has been able to stand toe to toe with some of the best teams in America. The Big XII is outstanding, and it is probably the best team in the bunch. There is a real chance for KU to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and if that turns out to be the case, getting 9 to 1 odds are going to be remarkable on a solid team. Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor might really be able to carry this team all the way through the dance this year.

Florida Gators (+3000) at SportBet.com: Historically, UF has done a great job in the dance. This is a team that is seemingly routinely in the Sweet 16, and it is almost March Madness time once again. Mike Rosario is back in the lineup, and there are a heck of a lot great guards on this team. Kenny Boynton and Bradley Beal are going to have the potential to get the job done, and if the draw ends up being right for the boys in blue and orange, this could be a Final Four team once again with some great odds to win the NCAA Tournament.

Creighton Blue Jays (+10000) at SportBet.com: For a team that very well could end up on the No. 4 line in the NCAA Tournament, 100 to 1 is ridiculous. Doug McDermott is one of the best players, not just in the Missouri Valley Conference, but in the entire nation as well. The Blue Jays are legitimate, and they can do just about everything. They rebound like some of the biggest teams in the Big East, and they can fly all over the court and shoot the ball from anywhere like a team in the Big XII. We’ve seen these mid majors do well in the dance of late, and Creighton might be the next version of Butler or VCU.

St. Mary’s Gaels (+15000) at SportBet.com: St. Mary’s might have lost in BracketBusters to Murray State, but this is still one of the best mid major teams in the land. The Gaels are more suited for a run in the NCAA Tournament than any other of the minor teams because of the fact that they have a slew of players that can shoot the ball from all over the court. Matthew Dellavedova is simply an assassin, and though the Gaels have lost two straight games and have a rough end to the regular season before the West Coast Conference Tournament, they are still a team that could take a lot of scalps come March.
