The Spurs have won some big time games this year, and this would be their sixth victory in a row and their fifth consecutive cover if they were to grab this one. However, the trend that we are interested in is actually the ‘under’. Sure, when these two teams met earlier this year, the end result was 210 points on the board, but the fact of the matter is that both of these teams have been pouring in 45+ field goals on a regular basis, and that just can’t continue. Utah has shot 51.7 percent from the field over the course of its last two games, while San Antonio has shot 54.3 percent in its last three games. We’ll repeat: That just isn’t going to continue with regularity. Prior to this first game of this year, the previous five meetings, all in the playoffs last year, failed to reach the ‘total’, and we think that is a heck of a lot more indicative of what we should see this time around. Especially with the Jazz coming off that big time win over the Los Angeles Lakers, their offense should slide backwards just a bit.

We’re really not all that much for the Celtics right now. Perhaps when they hit the road to the Lone Star State, we’ll feel a little bit better about them, but for now, life isn’t all that great for them. They’re hovering right around .500, and we still really don’t have any confidence that they are going to be able to hang in there for the full 82 games on the campaign. Dallas is trending upward in our eyes, and it is going to be well on its way to the playoffs this year when it gets F Dirk Nowitzki back. For now, it has been G OJ Mayo who has been out of this world for the last several games, including dropping 40 a few nights ago. The Mavs have now won and covered three straight games, and they have won and covered three in a row in this series as well against Boston. Most of those games weren’t even all that close to the number, and when push comes to shove, this one might not be either. This is a game that Dallas can win outright, though we expect it to be close regardless.

Melvin and G Brandon Young are the only two guys who really make this team go on a regular basis, and if ASU can figure out how to take these two out of the game, this won’t even remotely be a contest. Arizona State has been a tricky team this year, as the club hasn’t played a whole heck of a lot of competition. Yes, there was a win over the Arkansas Razorbacks, but the only other game against a competitive team this year, the Creighton Blue Jays, was a disaster and a 14-point defeat. It’s a team that is well-rounded, and the whole starting five can get into double digits in scoring. That’s what the difference is, on top of the home court advantage that the Devils are going to have over the Demons.
