The time is here for more of our sparkling CBB picks, as we look at the schedule for basketball for Wednesday night. The California Golden Bears and Washington Huskies will have it in a nationally televised game, which can be seen on the college basketball TV schedule on ESPN2.

If you’re going to back the boys from Berkeley in this one, you know that you’re relying on G Allen Crabbe and G Justin Cobbs to get the job done. These two are the heart and soul of this team, and they are combining to score more than half of the team’s points per game this year. Crabbe is one of the top scorers in the entire country, averaging 21.4 points per game, and he rarely sits, averaging over 34 minutes per game on the court. The junior has had four straight games with at least 21 points scored, and he has missed a grand total of just four minutes of game time in his last three games. On the other side of the court though, we really like the way that the Huskies are playing at the moment. The team started off Pac-12 play by beating the Washington State Cougars on the road, and that marked U-Dub’s fifth win in its last six games, most of which have come by suitable margins. The Huskies have covered three of the last four in this series, and thy did win by 21 points here at Haas Pavilion last year. Cal has proven beatable at home, as the Harvard Crimson, Creighton Blue Jays, and UNLV Runnin’ Rebels have all done it recently. The Huskies might be the next added to that list.

Both the Mountaineers and the Longhorns badly underachieved during the non-conference seasons, and now, both are going to be in a heck of a lot of trouble when it comes to getting into the NCAA Tournament. Both teams got off to terrible starts in Big XII play this year, as Texas lost on the road to the Baylor Bears, and the Mountaineers were crushed at home by 10 against the Oklahoma Sooners. There could be better for both as we go on this year, but we just don’t think so. G Javan Felix is the best player on the court on either side, and everyone knows it, as the ‘Neers just don’t have a man that is going to be able to keep up with him. Felix went off for 26 points, nine assists, and five boards in the opener against Baylor, and he played in 43 of the 45 minutes. G Sheldon McClellan has been playing well all year long, as has G Julien Lewis. As long as Texas doesn’t get whipped on the glass, it should be okay in this one, and we expect to see a Longhorns victory by close to double digits.

This is a whole heck of a lot of points that the oddsmakers are giving the Lakers tonight. You might think that this is an anomaly, but with all of the Lakers that are out of the lineup for the next week, it’s tough to see any way that they can come on the road and win this game. On top of that, three of the last four meetings have been decided by at least 14 points, and nine of the last 10 have been decided by at least nine points. It’s tough to think that all of a sudden, this is going to be another wickedly close game as we saw way back at the beginning of the campaign. San Antonio has been playing suspect basketball of late, losing to both the New York Knicks (by 17) and the New Orleans Hornets (by seven), but both of those games were on the road. Teams that have been coming to the AT&T Center have been getting destroyed of late, and this is a far worse Los Angeles team in this form than we are used to seeing. It’s tough to want to lay two touchdowns, but after last night’s showing in the middle quarters by the Lakers, we can’t see this one being close.

If the Pirates were playing with a full team on Wednesday, we would think that they would have a shot against the Cardinals. However, they’re not nearly going to be getting enough points with a team that is missing three of its key players in its rotation (Brian Oliver, Patrik Auda, and Kevin Johnson). The Cardinals are 8-2 ATS on the road in their last 10 road games, and they have zero fear whatsoever about going on the road and winning games in the Big East. G Peyton Siva and G Russ Smith are on fire at the moment, and having C Gorgui Dieng back in the fold will more than counter the biggest man on the court for the Pirates, C Gene Teague. G Fuquan Edwin could end up going off for 30+ points to carry the Pirates to a victory, but against a stout defense, it just isn’t likely to happen. It wasn’t an accident that Seton Hall was absolutely pummeled on the road by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over the weekend, and we expect to see the Cards come on the road and post a double digit road victory over an inferior and overrated 12-3 team.

The Clippers are back to their winning ways with back to back wins and covers in relatively easy fashion over the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors. This could be the time for a letdown, though. Dallas is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings in this series, and it is 5-2 ATS in its last seven trips to Staples Center to take on the men in red. G Jamal Crawford is still questionable with a foot injury, and G Chauncey Billups is still out of the lineup with no timetable for a return to the court. For as bad as the Mavericks have played on the road this year (5-11 SU), they aren’t a bad road ATS team (10-10), and they have a score to settle after getting pasted by 22 when these two teams met the first time. Go with the Mavs and the points.

The BCS National Championship Game is one of the games on the college football bowl schedule this year, and today, I’m set to make my NCAA football pointspread picks for the ‘total’ in this clash. The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are going to do battle at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL. Join me for my BCS National Championship Game tips for this 8:30 p.m. ET kickoff that can be seen on ESPN.

This is what it all comes down to this year, and when push comes to shove, I really think that this is going to be a game that features a few more points than the oddsmakers and most bettors are truthfully expecting to see. I know that both of these defenses are out of this world, and to think that either is going to ultimately allow 20 points seems to be blasphemous. That being said, there is still plenty of talent to be had on both sidelines in terms of offensive abilities. I’m not asking for a miracle. I’m just asking for a few touchdowns.

What I continue to preach and preached throughout the year with the Crimson Tide is that they did continually find ways to score points this year. They dropped 32 on the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game, and they scored at least 21 against everyone in the SEC this season. There’s no reason to think that RB Eddie Lacy and RB TJ Yeldon won’t end up combining for around 175-200 rushing yards once again in this game, regardless of how good the Notre Dame front seven truthfully is. And, for all of their flaws, the Golden Domers this year did average a respectable 26.8 points per game. This isn’t an inept offense, though I do recognize the fact that this is a team that didn’t play against an SEC foe of this caliber this year either.

So I take it for what it is. I’ve got an experienced quarterback in QB AJ McCarron who knows how to get the ball in the end zone in the biggest games that college football players will ever see, and I have a running game in that of the Crimson Tide that should be able to move the ball at least some when push comes to shove. I’m really just hoping that the Irish don’t get their doors blown off and that they keep this as a competitive game. If they do just that, there’s no reason to think that this one won’t ultimately find its way into the 40s in spite of the fact that these defenses are out of this world.

After weeding through 124 teams this year, there are just two that are remaining in the battle to win the BCS National Championship Game. The Fighting Irish have been the only undefeated team in America that has been eligible over the course of the last two weeks, but they haven’t necessarily ever been considered the best team in the land. Alabama, even when it was ranked down at fourth, was always thought to be as good of a team as there is in the country, and it will have a chance to win a second straight National Championship.

However, the Fighting Irish have themselves a heck of a defense that can carry this team. All eyes are going to be on LB Manti Te’o, who has figured out how to get the job done time and time again for his team. There were just so many major stands on the goal line to beat teams like USC, Pittsburgh, and Stanford, and that’s simply remarkable. Still, the offense for Notre Dame is going to have some major problems against an Alabama defense that is ranked in the Top 6 in the land in both the rushing game and the passing game.

The truth of the matter is that Alabama is a heck of a lot more able to get the ball up the field both on the ground and through the air. QB AJ McCarron only threw three interceptions for the entire year, and he can work the ball up to WR Amari Cooper just like he did in the SEC Championship Game against the Georgia Bulldogs. And of course, there is no doubt that the team can win the National Championship without ever really throwing the ball as well. RB Eddie Lacy and RB TJ Yeldon both had over 100 yards on the ground against UGA, and both had over 1,000 yards for the season. This is just something that Notre Dame isn’t going to be able to contend with. Lay the hefty point spread here on the National Championship Game odds, as Head Coach Nick Saban is as good in games like this one as any coach in America, and he’ll coach his boys up to a seventh straight cover in a neutral site games.
