On Friday, there are a handful of games on the basketball television schedule that we have circled that should be good ones. Check out our NBA picks for Friday!

NBA Matchup: Phoenix Suns @ Houston Rockets
Date: Friday, April 13th, 8:00 ET
Location: Toyota Center, Houston, TX
NBA Betting Odds: Houston -4
NBA TV Schedule: ESPN

The Rockets and the Suns both badly need this one, as they are both right in the thick of the fight at the bottom of the Western Conference playoffs. The importance level is clearly there for Phoenix, which is two games in the rears of the pack in the bottom of the West, as a loss in this one would make it quite hard over the course of the last seven games to get into the dance. Steve Nash is playing as well right now as any point guard in the league, and he really wants to make that one last push to try to get a title here in Phoenix. We don’t think that he is ultimately going to get this team into the playoffs, but we still think that the Rockets are overrated at this point. We just don’t see Goran Dragic, a man that was made playing behind Nash in Phoenix, getting the better of his protégé.

NBA Pick: Phoenix +4

NBA Matchup: Dallas Mavericks @ Portland Trail Blazers
Date: Friday, April 13th, 10:30 ET
Location: Rose Garden, Portland, OR
NBA Betting Odds: Dallas -2
NBA TV Schedule: ESPN

This is a really tough spot for the Mavericks to be in. They are playing on the road for the second straight night, and they have to go up against a Portland team that has been sitting at home and resting for the last day after playing nothing but home games of late. Sure, the Blazers are banged up, but they are still a great team here at the Rose Garden. The question in our eyes is whether someone aside from Dirk Nowitzki is really going to step it up and try to put this Dallas team on his back. We just don’t see it right now, and the Blazers know if they are going to make one last push for the playoffs, this is a game that they just can’t lose.

NBA Pick: Portland +2

Ottawa Senators vs. New York Rangers Series Preview & Pick

Ottawa might have won three of the four games between these teams this year, but that doesn’t mean that it is going to have success here in the playoffs when the teams are playing no one but each other for two weeks.

Last year when the Sens were one of the worst defensive teams in the league, they traded for Craig Anderson, who is now the man that is going to be going against one of the best teams in the league. There are some talented players offensively, but save for Jason Spezza, we really don’t see a heck of a lot of men on this roster, in spite of all of the goals that this team put up this year, that are going to be able to find their way consistently onto the stat sheet.

Over the course of the last few years, Henrik Lundqvist has been put into a bad spot. He has always been fantastic, and this year was no exception, but this is the first time that he has the team in front of him that should put up enough goals to win in the postseason. The addition of Brad Richards was for this specific situation here in the playoffs, and if he, Marian Gaborik, and the crew can find ways to consistently put three goals on the board in this series, the Rangers are going to be a really, really tough out.

In the end, we don’t think that the Senators are going to do all that much in this series. We don’t think that they are going to be able to win a game at Madison Square Garden, and though they might be able to take a game in the Great White North, they aren’t going to be around for all that long.

New York Rangers in 5 (-230)

The NHL playoffs kick off on Wednesday night, and here at Cappers Info, we are going to be making our picks on the NHL playoffs odds for these three clashes, which are starting off three tremendous series.

NHL Matchup: #5 Philadelphia Flyers @ #4 Pittsburgh Penguins Game 1
Date: Wednesday, April 11th 7:35 ET
Location: Consol Energy Arena, Pittsburgh, PA
NHL Playoffs Odds: Pittsburgh -185
NHL TV Schedule: NBC Sports Network, TSN

The Flyers and the Penguins really don’t like each other all that much, and it is going to probably show with a bunch of chippy play early in this series. Philly has to be confident coming into the Steel City, knowing that it is going to have the ability to earn a split on enemy ice, just as it did in the last two games that the team played in this building this year, both of which were played in just the last week and a half. The road team may shock you and go up 1-0 in this series with a big time effort from Ilya Bryzgalov in net.

NHL Free Pick: Philadelphia Flyers +160

NHL Matchup: #5 Detroit Red Wings @ #4 Nashville Predators Game 1
Date: Wednesday, April 11th 8:00 ET
Location: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, TN
NHL Playoffs Odds: Nashville -125
NHL TV Schedule: CNBC, CBC

The Red Wings haven’t really played all that well down the stretch, and we are puzzled as to why they are considered nearly a pick ‘em in this one. Nashville has played well at home, and the Wings were a disaster, winning just 17 games this entire season as the guests. Jimmy Howard is perceived to be the better net minder of these two, but Pekka Rinne won a slew of games on the campaign. This should be another one to add to his resume in Game 1.

NHL Free Pick: Nashville Predators -125

NHL Matchup: #8 Los Angeles Kings @ #1 Vancouver Canucks Game 1
Date: Wednesday, April 11th 10:30 ET
Location: Rogers Arena, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
NHL Playoffs Odds: Vancouver -160
NHL TV Schedule: NBC Sports Network, CBC

The Canucks are the defending Western Conference champs and are coming off of a good regular season. That being said, this is the postseason, where Roberto Luongo seemingly always chokes. The offense might be without Daniel Sedin again in this one, and that means that the Kings might have the advantage. Jonathan Quick has a great chance to pick up a big time win on the road for his team. We like the way that LA is playing right now, and it could go up 1-0 in this series on the road, which will heap even more pressure on a Vancouver team that is always up against it this time of year.

NHL Free Pick: Philadelphia Flyers +160

The difference between the top seed in the West, the Vancouver Canucks and the No. 8 seed, the Los Angeles Kings isn’t all that much. That being said, the two could be engaged in a great series starting on Wednesday night. Don’t miss out on the big time NHL playoff picks that are ahead!

Los Angeles Kings +175
Vancouver Canucks -210

Game 3: Vancouver @ Los Angeles (Sunday 4/15, 10:30 PM, NBC Sports Network, CBC)
Game 4: Vancouver @ Los Angeles (Wednesday 4/18, 10:00 PM, NBC Sports Network, CBC)
Game 5 (if nec): Los Angeles @ Vancouver (Sunday 4/22, TBD)
Game 6 (if nec): Vancouver @ Los Angeles (Tuesday 4/24 TBD)
Game 7 (if nec): Los Angeles @ Vancouver (Thursday 4/26 TBD)

Los Angeles Kings vs. Vancouver Canucks Series Preview & Pick

The Canucks just have to be shaking their head at their luck here in the first round of the playoffs. They once again are going to be facing a team that is tough as nails in their first game that is severely underrated, and they are going to be up against it. It wouldn’t be a shock to see this team bounced out of the postseason.

If the Kings are going to pull off the upset, they are going to have to do so on the back of Jonathan Quick. Quick was one of the best goalies in the game this year, and he has the ability to not just single-handedly win this series, but the whole Stanley Cup as well. The offense got better in front of him at the trade deadline when the team picked up some big pieces to the puzzle, but in the end, it is up to Anze Kopitar to get the job done to lead the troops on the offensive side of the ice.

The Canucks are going to be riding Roberto Luongo in net. He was sent to the bench in favor of Cory Schneider in the first round of the playoffs last year, and he has to be wondering whether he is going to be in some trouble this year as well. Offensively, Daniel Sedin is still in some trouble with a concussion, and if he misses any extended period of time, this is really bad news for a team that hasn’t really been all that great on this side of the ice over the course of the last few seasons.

Vancouver needs to be really careful in this series. We think that the Kings have the ability to win this series, and we think that this is going to be a tooth and nail type of fight. This is one series that is going to go to seven games, and if that ends up being the case, we are going to take our chances for the upset for the No. 8 seed.

Los Angeles Kings in 7 (+175)

The Central Division boasted four of the best teams in the entire NHL this year, and starting on Wednesday night, two of those squads, the Nashville Predators and Detroit Red Wings, are going to be fighting it out for the right to move onto the last eight in the fight for the 2012 Stanley Cup.

NHL Playoff Betting Odds
Detroit Red Wings -110
Nashville Predators -110

Detroit Red Wings vs. Nashville Predators Series Schedule

Game 1: Detroit @ Nashville (Wednesday 4/11, 8:00 PM, CNBC, CBC)
Game 2: Detroit @ Nashville (Friday 4/13, 7:30 PM, CNBC, CBC)
Game 3: Nashville @ Detroit (Sunday 4/15, 12:00 PM, NBC, CBC)
Game 4: Nashville @ Detroit (Tuesday 4/17, 7:30 PM, NBC Sports Network, CBC)
Game 5 (if nec): Detroit @ Nashville (Friday 4/20, 8:00 PM, CNBC, CBC)
Game 6 (if nec): Nashville @ Detroit (Sunday 4/22 TBD)
Game 7 (if nec): Detroit @ Nashville (Tuesday 4/24 TBD)

The Predators and Red Wings have already seen each other six times this year, and they are certainly going to be in a battle to the death here in the first round of the playoffs as well. There was a big fight to get home ice advantage that went right down to the final day of the season, and it might be more important in this series than any other. Detroit won 31 games this year at home and just 17 on the road, one of the biggest discrepancies for any team in the league.

Jimmy Howard looked like he was going to win the Vezina Trophy for quite some time this year, especially for the way that he played during that record setting 23-game winning streak at Joe Louis Arena. That being said, he has struggled down the stretch, partially because of his own problems in net, and partially because of an offense that has been riddled by injuries all season long.

The Predators really don’t have the name recognition that the Wings do, but they do have one of the best defenders in the league in Shea Weber and a tremendous goaltender in Pekka Rinne. They played well at Bridgestone Arena this year as well, and that could be a big time key to winning this series. Rinne was tabbed as the team’s starting goalie in virtually every position this year, and that means that he is no long looking over his shoulder at Anders Lindback, who is now the bona fide backup.

It’s all about the home ice edge, though. If Nashville can figure out how to win these first two games at home, we think that it is going to be able to do a heck of a lot of damage here in the first round of the playoffs. Don’t be all that shocked if the Wings, who are in poor form right now, end up slipping up just a bit at home and getting knocked out relatively early. This is a tossup of a series according to the oddsmakers, but we just don’t agree.

Nashville Predators in 5 (-110)

To say that the Flyers and the Pens don’t like each other is a tremendous understatement. These two teams battled it out to some tight finishes all year long, and they were separated by just a few points, not just for their positioning in the Atlantic Division, but in the Eastern Conference as well.

The talent is clearly here on both sides. The Penguins are going to be coming into battle with a team that is tested in the playoffs and already knows what it is like to win a Stanley Cup. Sidney Crosby is back in the fold, and he is going to be the most feared man on the ice. That being said, James Neal might have been the most underrated player in the league this entire season, while Evgeni Malkin is nearly sure to win the Hart Memorial Trophy.

That being said, we aren’t going to be counting the Flyers out either. They have a solid net minder in Ilya Bryzgalov, which really should solidify the goaltending position for the first time in quite some time in the City of Brotherly Love here in the postseason. Having Chris Pronger would really help out quite a bit, but he has missed basically this whole season, and the Flyers still had a nice year without him.

In the end, we just don’t know if the Flyers have the goods to be able to win a game (or possibly two) in the Steel City. We think that Marc-Andre Fleury is the better and more experienced of these two goalies, and he is going to be the man that is going to be under the gun. There is just too much talent here for the Penguins, and they should march on, though it is going to be a lot closer series than the experts probably think.

Pittsburgh Penguins in 7 (-235)

On Wednesday, there are a handful of games on the basketball television schedule that we have circled that should be good ones. Check out our NBA picks for Wednesday!

NBA Matchup: New York Knicks @ Milwaukee Bucks
Date: Wednesday, April 11th, 8:00 ET
Location: Bradley Center, Milwaukee, WI
NBA Betting Odds: Milwaukee -4
NBA TV Schedule: ESPN

The Knicks know that they are going to be in a bad travel spot in this game. They are only going to be in Milwaukee for a handful of hours, and they are coming off of back to back brutally physical games with a relatively short bench against the Bulls. Now, they have to fight for their playoff lives, as they are just a game up on these Bucks with less than 10 games to play, and this is the type of game that really should be won by a team that wants to get into the playoffs. That being said, the lack of depth is really going to show on Wednesday night for New York. Eventually, Carmelo Anthony isn’t going to be able to do it all, and New York just doesn’t have the big men with Amare Stoudemire out of the fold to take advantage of the Bucks and their lack of size in the paint. That will brutally cost the Knicks on Wednesday night.

NBA Pick: Milwaukee -4

NBA Matchup: Golden State Warriors @ Portland Trail Blazers
Date: Wednesday, April 11th, 10:30 ET
Location: Rose Garden, Portland, OR
NBA Betting Odds: Portland -6
NBA TV Schedule: ESPN

Remember when we were backing the Blazers seemingly every single night here at the Rose Garden because of how well that they have played at home over the course of the last few seasons? Of course, that was before Brandon Roy was basically forced into retirement, before the team traded Gerald Wallace, before the team lost Nicolas Batum to injury, and before the team knew that LaMarcus Aldridge was playing hurt and needs some time off. Portland is clearly the better of these two teams, and it is the team that at least still has a shot of getting into the playoffs with a great run down the stretch. However, Golden State is playing very hard right now with its mixing and matching in the lineup, and Head Coach Mark Jackson might be able to lead his team to an upset in this one in Portland.

NBA Pick: Golden State +6

On Tuesday, there are a handful of games on the basketball television schedule that we have circled that should be good ones. Check out our NBA picks for Tuesday!

NBA Matchup: Boston Celtics @ Miami Heat
Date: Tuesday, April 10th, 7:00 ET
Location: American Airlines Arena, Miami, FL
NBA Betting Odds: Miami -7.5
NBA TV Schedule: ESPN

Oh, Miami, how overrated you are in this situation! The Heat had won 17 games in a row at home before getting romped by Memphis over the weekend, and now, they are getting a heck of a lot of respect against a team that is playing as well as any team in the league. Dwyane Wade is going to be back in the fold tonight, and we just don’t think that that is going to be all that much help as far as the chemistry goes for this squad. Ray Allen coming off of the bench is an ingenious move by Head Coach Doc Rivers. The Heat are going to be far more interested in Thursday’s battle in the Windy City than this one against the boys from Beantown, and we think that the Chowder Heads are going to be able to come out of South Beach with the upset on Tuesday night on national TV.

NBA Pick: Boston +7.5

NBA Matchup: New York Knicks @ Chicago Bulls
Date: Tuesday, April 10th, 9:30 ET
Location: United Center, Chicago, IL
NBA Betting Odds: Chicago -8.5
NBA TV Schedule: ESPN

It was only two days ago that the Knicks beat the Bulls by a point in OT. It is clear that this New York team is good enough to beat anybody in the league, but the quest just to get into the playoffs definitely won’t be easy. The Bulls don’t lose games at home all that often, as they are 22-6 here at the United Center this year. We could see Derrick Rose back in the lineup again for this one, and if he plays again, don’t expect to see him shoot 8-of-26 from the floor. Don’t expect Carmelo Anthony to go off for 32 again either, nor should Tyson Chandler pull down 16 boards. Chicago should take this one by double digits.

NBA Pick: Chicago -8.5

2012 Baseball Picks Of The Day Record: 3-2 (+$155)

MLB Play Of The Day: Washington Nationals @ New York Mets
Date: Tuesday, April 10th, 7:10 ET
Location: Citi Field, Flushing, NY
MLB Betting Odds: New York -112
Baseball On TV/MLB TV Schedule: MLB Network, SNY, MASN2

Dillon Gee is set to make his debut for the year with the Mets, and he is coming off of a campaign in which he was quite the respectable pitcher. He went 13-6 on a team that was bad, and though his K/BB ratio was shoddy at 114/71, batters only hit .248 against him. The ERA was a bit high at 4.43 as well, but again, we aren’t really all that concerned. The Nationals are a good team, but we still think that they are overrated at this point early in the season by the oddsmakers. Ross Detwiler doesn’t do all that much for us, as he is a lifetime 6-14 pitcher with an ERA above 4.00 and splits that aren’t desirable to say the least. The Mets should get the job done at home on Tuesday night.

Baseball On TV/MLB TV Schedule: ESPN

If healthy, Shaun Marcum would clearly have the upper hand here against Chris Volstad. Marcum has been a consistent pitcher over the course of the last two seasons, winning 13 games in both, but we just aren’t so sure when we hear about shoulder problems with pitchers. Marcum isn’t all that fantastic, and he is playing for a team that just couldn’t win a darn thing on the road last year to save its life. The Cubbies haven’t played well yet offensively on the campaign, but they are still 2-1 nonetheless. This is the first start for Volstad in the Friendly Confines, and we have to think that there is at least a 50/50 shot that he and the Cubs are going to knock off the Brew Crew in this one.
