Bettors overreact all the time to things that they see in just one game, and this is another example of a bad line that many are going to bet right into. The Bears came out in the NIT on Wednesday and absolutely laid the smack down on the Long Beach State 49ers, taking a big time first half and parlaying that with an even bigger second half to win their first round game by 46 points. Here’s the problem: Now, a team that really was good enough to be in the NCAA Tournament by itself is coming to town. The Sun Devils were probably ultimately underseeded in this tournament as a No. 3 seed, as they do have some big time wins in the Pac-12, a lot of which incidentally came on the road. Head Coach Herb Sendek and the crew were only favored by a few points on Wednesday against the Detroit Titans, but there was never really a doubt in the second half as to who the better of the two teams really was. The boys from the desert aren’t necessarily going to win this game, but they aren’t going to lose by double digits either. Baylor’s inconsistency is why it wasn’t in the NCAA Tournament this year. That inconsistency will shine through on Friday night.

Round 1 Betting Lines
#6 Detroit Titans +4
#3 Arizona State Sun Devils -4
Over/Under 153

We know that we are going to see a whole heck of a lot of running and gunning in the last first round game in the NIT. The Titans and the Sun Devils both average over 70 points per game this year, and there is a real sense that there could be 150, 160, or maybe even more points put on the board when this one is said and done with. The oddsmakers are basically telling us what to do with this one though, and we don’t even need to dive in any deeper than this. Playing Arizona State would be the square thing to do. The Sun Devils clearly feel like they should be laying a lot more than just four points in a game in which a Horizon League team that finished the year with 12 losses is traveling clear across the country on little notice. However, what we will say for Detroit is that it is tough to prepare for this team. The Sun Devils have to be taken aback just a bit at exactly how quickly this pressing team can put points on the board, and we think that they could be in a heck of a lot of trouble as a result. It is absolutely a trap if you plan on betting on ASU.

5Dimes SportsbookMy 2012 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl picks between the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Navy Midshipmen are all set and ready to go here at Cappers Info. The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl kickoff starts at 4:00 p.m. ET at AT&T Park in San Francisco, CA, and I’m going to be your expert college football handicapper that points you towards the winning bet for the Arizona State vs. Navy game.

2012 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl
Navy Midshipmen (8-4, 4-8 ATS) +14
Arizona State Sun Devils (7-5, 7-5 ATS) -14
Over/Under 53

If you just look at what the Midshipmen have been doing lately, you would think that this would be an automatic ‘under’ game. The team has put up just 38 points over the course of its last two games, and the defense has held three out of four teams to 17 points or fewer. However, I’m not really all that sure that this is the route to go with this game on Saturday afternoon in the Golden State.

Though the Middies have scored some fewer points in these last few weeks, the offense has been a heck of a lot more dynamic and efficient with QB Keenan Reynolds calling the shots. Reynolds does a great job taking care of the football, and he is just a better passer than QB Trey Miller. The Naval Academy also has some dynamic rushers in RB Noah Copeland and RB Gee Gee Greene, who combined for over 1,400 rushing yards on the campaign. Greene was also the team’s leading receiver with 303 yards and two trips to the end zone, albeit on just 17 receptions. The Midshipmen also haven’t been very good when it comes to defense this year, allowing 388.9 yards per game. The club allowed 50 to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and 41 to the Troy Trojans in two of the worst games of the year, though a 34-7 loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions was right up there as well amongst the worst defensive showings of the year.

5Dimes

Arizona State has been all over the place this year. The team has six games with at least 41 points scored, but a few games with 21 points or fewer as well. Obviously, if this turns out to be one of those games with 40+ points scored, this one will get beyond the ‘total’. If not, it could be problematic, but it definitely isn’t an impossible happening to get to the number. Against teams with relatively quirky, high octane offenses, the Sun Devils allowed 43 to the Oregon Ducks, 45 to the UCLA Bruins, and 34 to the Arizona Wildcats. That’s more along the lines of what I’m expecting on Saturday afternoon, and in the end, I expect to see both of these teams get into the 30s.

To beat the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl odds, you have to put a heck of a lot of work into the game. Our college football expert handicappers have done just that here at Cappers Info, and we think that we have the winning edge for the clash between the Navy Midshipmen vs. Arizona State Sun Devils.

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl Picks: Navy Midshipmen vs. Arizona State Sun Devils
Date: Saturday, December 29th, 4:00 ET
Location: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl Betting Odds: Arizona State -14
Navy vs. Arizona State Live TV Coverage: ESPN2

The Midshipmen ended the season with the better record of these two teams with eight wins as opposed to seven, but in the end, there is a clear divide between which one of these teams has the more talent and the more potential. More talent and more potential doesn’t always mean more points though, and that might be what Arizona State finds out when it takes on the triple option. Making Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl picks might be more difficult than you would initially think.

We’re really not all that sold on what Arizona State is bringing to the table. Yes, we were most certainly impressed with the 41-34 win on the road at the Arizona Wildcats in the instate rivalry game to end the regular season, but in the end, it just wasn’t the type of victory that really makes us that impressed. The 21-point loss to the USC Trojans looked worse and worse as the season went on, and that was just the final defeat in a string of four straight losses to end the regular season. Looking back at it, QB Taylor Sharp and the gang only did beat one bowl team in the campaign, that being Arizona. Aside from that, there were some losses to teams that the Sun Devils should have lost to, and some like the one at the Missouri Tigers that at the end of the year, really didn’t look all that great.

The Sun Devils are up against a Navy offense that requires attention to detail, something that wasn’t had in games against the likes of Oregon, USC, and UCLA, all clubs which put at least 38 on the board against them. QB Keenan Reynolds has clearly been the best choice for the Middies to use at quarterback, as he has gotten the ball moving both through the air and on the ground. He threw for 884 yards with eight scores and a pick and rushed for 628 yards and 10 scores in basically eight games this year, and he has two other great rushers in RB Gee Gee Greene and RB Noah Copeland that can both go off for 100+ yards if given the opportunity. In the end, for us, this is a matter of preparation. You’re never going to catch the Midshipmen unprepared. There’s a decent chance that the Sun Devils could be. We certainly want the point on our side.

Navy vs. Arizona State Pick: Navy Midshipmen +14
Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl Score Prediction: Navy 27 – Arizona State 20

The time is here for more of our sparkling CBB picks, as we look at the schedule for basketball for Wednesday night. The Arizona State Sun Devils and DePaul Blue Demons will have it in a nationally televised game, which can be seen on the college basketball TV schedule on Pac-12 Network.

Free College Hoops Picks: DePaul Blue Demons @ Arizona State Sun Devils
Date: Wednesday, December 12th, 9:00 ET

DePaul vs. Arizona State Live TV: Pac-12 Network

F Cleveland Melvin and the Blue Demons are going to be in action on the West Coast against the Sun Devils, and they are going to be quite a fight. Melvin and G Brandon Young are the only two guys who really make this team go on a regular basis, and if ASU can figure out how to take these two out of the game, this won’t even remotely be a contest. Arizona State has been a tricky team this year, as the club hasn’t played a whole heck of a lot of competition. Yes, there was a win over the Arkansas Razorbacks, but the only other game against a competitive team this year, the Creighton Blue Jays, was a disaster and a 14-point defeat. It’s a team that is well-rounded, and the whole starting five can get into double digits in scoring. That’s what the difference is, on top of the home court advantage that the Devils are going to have over the Demons.

The 2012 college football season continues this week, and here at Cappers Info, we’ll be looking at some of the best games on the docket each and every week, as we try to make the most money possible off of the CFB odds for the week. Join us on Friday, as we make our Arizona State Sun Devils @ Arizona Wildcats free picks and predictions for what should be a great clash on the gridiron.

Week 13 College Football Picks: Arizona State Sun Devils @ Arizona Wildcats
Date: Friday, November 23rd, 10:00 ET
Location: Arizona Stadium, Tucson, AZ
CFB Betting Odds: Arizona -2.5
Arizona State vs. Arizona Live TV: ESPN

What are the oddsmakers thinking with this one? The Wildcats are laying just 2.5, which basically insinuates that Arizona State is the better of these two teams. Have the oddsmakers watched what Arizona State has done this year against bowl eligible teams? The team is 0-4 SU and ATS in those outings. Have the oddsmakers seen what RB Ka’Deem Carey has done over the course of the last two games? And what the Oregon Ducks, who run a similar offense did to this Sun Devils defense? It just doesn’t make any sense to us, save for the fact that the road team has won and covered three in a row in this series, most of which have come in upsetting fashion. Still, that’s just not a justification from our end to want to back the Sun Devils on the road, where they have only beaten Cal and Colorado this year. That just doesn’t cut it. Go with an Arizona team that is 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS at home on the campaign.

Arizona State @ Arizona Pick: Arizona -2.5
Arizona State @ Arizona Score Prediction: Arizona 37 – Arizona State 28

5Dimes SportsbookOne of my favorite plays on the Week 11 Saturday college football odds pits the USC Trojans against the Arizona State Sun Devils. These two are going to be meeting at 8:00 p.m. ET at the Los Angeles Coliseum, and I’m going to show you which side to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

Arizona State Sun Devils (5-4, 5-4 ATS) +9
USC Trojans (6-3, 2-7 ATS) -9
Over/Under 64

The Sun Devils have really been a tale of two teams this year. They have had moments where you wonder whether they are one of the best teams in America or not. They came out of the blocks at 4-1 this year and were ranked in the Top 25 for a brief period of time. Unfortunately for ASU though, the team has stumbled here in the Pac-12, losing three straight games both SU and ATS to superior competition. A defense which was once considered one of the best in the Pac-12 has allowed at least 36 points in three straight weeks.

That being said, USC isn’t exactly lighting it up right now. Sure, the team put 51 points on the board at home last week, but that was a matter of just trying to survive against the Oregon Ducks. There is a real chance that the season just collapses from here for USC, and I wouldn’t even be all that surprised to see them finish out the campaign at 6-7 if this one is lost, knowing that there is a bowl game and games against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and UCLA Bruins to go.

Arizona State not only won this game last year, but it won it by 21 points. It was the first win over USC in quite some time, and now, it is going to want to get that first victory here at the Coliseum in eons. Don’t be all that shocked if the Sun Devils pull the rabbit out of their hat in this one, as I just remain unimpressed with anything that the Trojans have done this year.

College football betting fans are running to their online sportsbooks to place their Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Oregon State bets and predictions, and here at Cappers Info, we are making our Saturday football picks for this encounter.

Week 10 College Football Picks: Arizona State Sun Devils @ Oregon State Beavers
Date: Saturday, November 3rd, 10:30 ET
Location: Reser Stadium, Corvallis, OR
CFB Betting Odds: Oregon State -5.5
Arizona State vs. Oregon State Live TV: ESPN2

It’s only early in the week, but the Beavers are clearly getting some massive public play in this one. We just don’t get it. Sure, Oregon State is the ranked team of these two, and sure we have seen the Sun Devils suffer two major defensive setbacks over the course of the last two weeks, but it isn’t like the Beavers are juggernauts. When you look back at their schedule this year, they have beaten a bunch of decent teams, but no truly good ones, and though Arizona State isn’t one of the elite teams in college football, it is a team that has some real potential. The Sun Devils have at least proven that they have the capacity to play some defense, and they have the better of the two quarterbacks in QB Taylor Kelly. QB Sean Mannion has been a wreck over the course of his last two games, and it is time to put these Beavers out of their misery once and for all, as they really don’t deserve to be ranked in the Top 15 in the nation.

Arizona State @ Oregon State Pick: Arizona State +5.5
Arizona State @ Oregon State Score Prediction: Arizona State 34 – Oregon State 27

5Dimes SportsbookOne of my favorite plays on the Week 8 Thursday college football odds pits the Arizona State Sun Devils against the Oregon Ducks. These two are going to be meeting at 9:00 p.m. ET at Sun Devil Stadium, and I’m going to show you which side to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

#2 Oregon Ducks (6-0, 2-4 ATS) -10.5
#24 Arizona State Sun Devils (5-1, 5-1 ATS) +10.5
Over/Under Off

There haven’t been many chinks in the armor for the Ducks this year, and I’m a believer that they are the team to back right now on the college football betting odds before this CFB pointspread gets any higher.

Oregon is a team that just continues to rack up points and yards regardless of who it plays and where the game gets played (SEC teams aside). The Ducks drop 35 on everyone in the land, and their defense is playing as well this year as it has played in quite some time. Even on the road, there is no reason not to think that RB Kenjon Barner and WR De’Anthony Thomas won’t be able to go nuts, especially with a week to prepare for this game. Arizona State meanwhile, really hasn’t had a major test this year, and though motivation is going to be at an all-time high in the desert, this just doesn’t feel like a game that is going to be won. If the Missouri Tigers can hold down QB Taylor Kelly to 178 yards with a TD and two picks, there’s no reason that the Ducks can’t do the same.

Remember too, that Oregon has won seven straight in this series and is 5-2 ATS in those seven games dating back to 2005. Three straight games here at Sun Devil Stadium have ended with the U of O scoring at least 42 points. Also remember that we have seen this script before. Both Arizona and Washington had short stints in the Top 25 thanks to the fact that they ran into the Ducks. ASU will be next.

Oregon @ Arizona State Tips: Oregon Ducks -10.5

Location: Sun Devil Stadium, Tucson, AZ
CFB Betting Odds: Oregon -10.5
Oregon @ Arizona State Live TV: ESPN

Motivation is definitely a key factor when you look into how you think games are going to play out. The Ducks are clearly one of the best teams in the country, but we have seen Pac-12 teams fail and fail miserably on the road, especially in the national spotlight all year long. This is really going to be the first major road test for QB Marcus Mariota, and it will be interesting to see how he handles the challenge. It’s also going to be eventful to see what QB Taylor Kelly can manage to do for the Sun Devils. He doesn’t look anything like a sophomore quarterback right now in Head Coach Todd Graham’s system, as he has thrown 14 TDs against just two picks. The only problem that we see is that both of those picks came against the only truly huge challenge that ASU had this year, that being a loss against the Missouri Tigers in Columbia. But still, after covers in back to back years in this series, it’s difficult to not back the Devils once again.

Oregon @ Arizona State Pick: Arizona State +10.5

The Pac-12 has been a haven this year for road teams that have really just not done so well. Of course, one of the teams that hasn’t done well regardless of what field they have been playing on is Colorado, which really feels like it should be relegated to the WAC here in the near future. The Buffs are terrible. They really are. However, they’re getting a heck of a lot of points in this one, and the Sun Devils are going to have all of the action on their side because they’re perceived to be a significantly better team. Ok, they are a significantly better team. Still, it doesn’t seem right to be laying quite this much in a Pac-12 game, knowing that this is going to basically be the Super Bowl to the Buffs. Remember that it is a week that involved a lot of travel for Arizona State, and it might show in some sloppy play.

The Arizona State Sun Devils and the California Golden Bears are going to square off in Week 5 of the college football betting campaign. Join us here at Cappers Info, as we make our predictions for football for what should be a great game on Saturday.

Week 5 College Football Picks: Arizona State Sun Devils @ California Golden Bears
Date: Saturday, September 29th, 4:00 ET
Location: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
CFB Betting Odds: Pick ‘Em
Arizona State vs. California Live TV: FX

Arizona State is going to be the latest team in the Pac-12 this year that is trying to sneak into the bottom of the Top 25 this year. The club came up with a romp of a first game in the Pac-12, a 37-7 win over the Utah Utes, who are struggling in their own right. Cal has been dumped in two straight games, and Head Coach Jeff Tedford badly needs this one. The Golden Bears haven’t been terrible, particularly defensively this year, and we think that they are a heck of a lot better than their 1-3 record suggests. If Cal has any chance of making a bowl game, and if Tedford has any chance of keeping his job, this is a game that has to be – and we think will be – won.

Arizona State @ California Pick: California Pick ‘Em
Arizona State @ California Score Prediction: California 34 – Arizona State 23
