Be very, very careful, Indiana! It’s still early in the process of NBA betting action on this game, but all of the early action has been on the Pacers at -6.5. Many are just making the assumption that the whole home team dominance thing is going to continue in this series, knowing that not only have the hosts kicked butt every step of the way in the playoffs, but that the host in this series is 8-0 SU and 7-1 ATS (with the one loss coming by a hook) in the last eight meetings. That being said, we really saw some spunk out of the Hawks in both Games 3 and 4 in this series, and they really looked like the better of the two teams. Indiana went on its run in Game 4 to threaten taking this series over, but Atlanta would not relent, and it found a way to take control back of a game that was starting to get away from it. The Hawks are moving the basketball and moving it quite well, and they are certainly going to be the team coming into this one full of confidence. We wouldn’t be all that shocked if they were to come into Indianapolis and pull off the upset on Wednesday night behind a good effort from F Josh Smith, who is coming off of a game in which he scored 29 points and had 11 boards on Monday night.

The Pacers have had absolutely no issues whatsoever taking care of the Hawks over the course of the first two games of this series. The two margins of victory have been decided by a total of 32 points. In both games, Indiana dominated on the glass. In both games, Indiana was the more aggressive team. In both games, there was never a doubt as to which side was superior. That being said, are the Pacers guaranteed to win Game 3 and 4 and finish this series off in a sweep? We’re really not all that sure, to tell you the truth. It’s amazing that the Hawks were able to even remotely stick around in Game 2 of this series, as they only had F Josh Smith on the court for a total of 20 minutes thanks to a ton of foul trouble. Had Smith been around for his regular allotment of 35-40 minutes as we have gotten accustomed to, this might have been a significantly different story. We know that this is a game that the Hawks are going to have to have, and the oddsmakers have adjusted accordingly. The Pacers have won four straight games in this series, but all four of these games have come at home. Now, Indiana has to go on the road, where it is just 1-6 ATS over the course of the last seven games at Phillips Arena. The Pacers could find themselves in some trouble on Saturday.

We know that the series history between the Hawks and the Pacers has been awfully tight over the course of the last several years, and home teams have won just a slew of the games that these two have played against each other. Atlanta only has six wins on the road here in Indianapolis over the course of its last 20 tries, and that dates all the way back to the 2002 season. However, we really don’t think that these two teams are all that far apart from one another. The Pacers do probably get better guard play, and they most certainly play better defense than the Hawks do, but Atlanta is going to have the two best players on the court as we see it in F Josh Smith and C Al Horford. These two are complete players that can do it all, and they are going to be forces to be reckoned with. As this series wears on, it is very possible that the Indiana defense is going to wear down the Hawks’ offense. That being said, early on in this one, we really want to see the Pacers get back in control of their own game. They dropped their last six games of the regular season from an ATS standpoint, and they ultimately found a way to lose five of those six games SU. Other teams playing poorly at the end of the year doesn’t bother us all that much. But for an Indiana team that is young, doesn’t have the man that has arguably been its best pure scorer since G Reggie Miller retired all those years ago, and is playing against a team that has played nearly 50 playoff games over the course of the last five seasons? We definitely have some cause for concern, especially laying seven points. We want all of those points on our side in what could be a Game 1 upset on Sunday afternoon.
