To beat the Beef O’Brady’s Bowl odds, you have to put a heck of a lot of work into the game. Our college football expert handicappers have done just that here at Cappers Info, and we think that we have the winning edge for the clash between the UCF Knights vs. Ball State Cardinals.

Beef O’Brady’s Bowl Picks: UCF Knights vs. Ball State Cardinals
Date: Friday, December 21st, 7:30 ET
Location: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, FL
Beef O’Brady’s Bowl Betting Odds: UCF -7
UCF vs. Ball State Live TV Coverage: ESPN

This is one of the rare bowl games where we think that the favored team is just going to come out and pummel the underdog, as we think that there is a clearly discord between where Ball State and UCF happen to be at in their respective seasons. Remember too, that this is a de facto home game for the Knights, and even the juniors know that this is going to likely be their last shot at a bowl game with a pending bowl ban potentially coming next season along with the move to the Big East.

QB Keith Wenning really didn’t have all that great of a year for Ball State, and though his ground game is good, averaging 214.2 yards per game, this is a tough draw against a UCF team that saw a heck of a lot of teams that were more talented and more aggressive on the ground than this one. The Cardinals did come out and win their final six games of the season, but none of those games, save for against the Toledo Rockets on the road, were really all that impressive when you think about it.

The challenge for the Knights is going to be getting the ball moving on the ground. RB Latavius Murray is considered one of the most talented backs to ever play at UCF, and that’s quite the statement, knowing that both Marquette Smith and Kevin Smith went on to have tremendous athletic careers. Where the Cardinals are really going to get themselves in trouble though, is trying to stop Murray and the rest of the UCF rushers. The Knights can deploy any number of backs in the backfield, and when they do, they are tough to stop. QB Blake Bortles has done a better job as the year has progressed of making smart reads and not turning the ball over, and if he keeps that up, the Knights should really take advantage of a defense that ranked 104th in the nation in total ‘D’ this year at 459.8 yards per game against a schedule that really wasn’t all that brutal.

UCF vs. Ball State Pick: UCF Knights -7
Beef O’Brady’s Bowl Score Prediction: UCF 41 – Ball State 20

5Dimes SportsbookMy 2012 Beef O’Brady’s Bowl picks between the UCF Knights and the Ball State Cardinals are all set and ready to go here at Cappers Info. The Beef O’Brady’s Bowl kickoff starts at 7:30 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL, and I’m going to be your expert college football handicapper that points you towards the winning bet for the UCF vs. Ball State game.

2012 Beef O’Brady’s Bowl
Ball State Cardinals (9-3, 9-3 ATS) +7
UCF Knights (9-4, 6-7 ATS) -7
Over/Under 61.5

Statistically speaking, the Knights and the Cardinals are really the same team. UCF would rather run the football, but a lot of its running comes out of the shotgun and other spread out formations with multiple receivers on the field. Ball State, like so many teams in the MAC, utilizes a pair of outside receivers to go with a quarterback that has some mobility, but would rather give it off to one of many backs in the system.

History doesn’t necessarily bode well for Cardinals in bowl games. They haven’t been to a bowl since 2008, and even when they have gotten to their five postseason games, they’re 0-5 to show for their work. In those games though, include some real high scorers, including an 82-point International Bowl against Rutgers and a 57-point GMAC Bowl against Tulsa. Historically, this Ball State defense has been run right through, but the team has done a significantly better job over the course of the last four games of the year, allowing no more than 27 points in any of those games. It’s going to take UCF getting into the 30s to have a shot at this ‘over’, and that just doesn’t seem all that likely to happen when push comes to shove.

5Dimes

Remember that Head Coach George O’Leary preaches to his team good defense and running the football. It’s a team that allowed 22.5 points per game this year and didn’t allow any of its final seven foes to score more than 24 points against it. With as badly as the Ball State defense has played this year though, this ‘total’ has been pushed artificially high. Yes, this is a game that is going to be played on turf in a fast tracked dome, and the Beef O’Brady’s Bowl has historically been a game that features plenty of offense, but when push comes to shove, this one just isn’t getting into the 60s.

Ball State vs. UCF Picks & Tips: Under 61.5

5Dimes SportsbookOne of my favorite plays on the Week 12 Wednesday college football odds pits the Ball State Cardinals against the Ohio Bobcats. These two are going to be meeting at 8:00 p.m. ET at Scheumann Stadium, and I’m going to show you which side to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

Ohio Bobcats (8-2, 4-6 ATS) +3.5
Ball State Cardinals (7-3, 8-2 ATS) -3.5
Over/Under Off

Ball State and Ohio are both great teams that are hoping to make a bowl game this year, but the loser of this one is going to likely find itself in some trouble. For my money though, this is the best of all of the games to play of the midweek action.

The Bobcats are probably going to be the team that most want to fade after last week. The Cardinals were able to go on the road and pull off the upset over Toledo at the Glass Bowl, while Ohio lost at home to what, in my estimation, is a very, very good Bowling Green squad. Still, it wasn’t a mistake that the Bobcats were able to get to 8-0 this year, and this is a very solid team from top to bottom. QB Tyler Tettleton has fallen upon some hard times, but he still has 16 TDs against just two picks and is destined to have better games that he had last week when he threw for just 145 yards against the stout Bowling Green defense.

The Bobcats had dominated this series in the 1990s and early 2000s, but these last two games have been ones that Ball State has gotten the better of. Still, Ball State is just 1-5 ATS in its last six games here in Muncie against teams with a winning road record. This just isn’t a great spot for the Cardinals to be in after last week’s emotional high, and they’ll get knocked off by Ohio on Wednesday.

Ohio @ Ball State Tips: Ohio Bobcats +3.5

5Dimes SportsbookOne of my favorite plays on the Week 11 Tuesday college football odds pits the Toledo Rockets against the Ball State Cardinals. These two are going to be meeting at 8:00 p.m. ET at the Glass Bowl, and I’m going to show you which side to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

Ball State Cardinals (6-3, 7-2 ATS) +6
Toledo Rockets (8-1, 6-3 ATS) -6
Over/Under Off

There are some real problems when I take a look at what Toledo has done over the course of the last few weeks. The biggest problem is that they haven’t won a game by more than the six points that they are favored by in this game. Meanwhile, Ball State has only been beaten three times this year, all of which came against some of the best teams in the MAC and in the country as a whole.

Ball State has covered five of the last seven games in this series, but three straight have been won by the Rockets by at least a touchdown. In all three games, Toledo has managed to put up at least 446 yards, and the Cardinals were held under 400 yards in all three as well.

Take away the game that the Rockets played against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, and they are an undefeated team from both an SU and an ATS standpoint. The Rockets have scored 41.0 points per game over the course of their last 15 games, and if they are able to get to that type of number on Tuesday night, they are going to be in great shape. Ball State’s defense is one of the worst in the MAC, and though its offense is getting up to the line of scrimmage quickly to the tune of over 80 plays per game, it won’t make a difference. I just don’t see how the Cardinals are going to get into the 30s, and if they don’t, they won’t be able to cover the CFB pointspread in this game.

Week 11 College Football Picks: Ball State Cardinals @ Toledo Rockets
Date: Tuesday, November 6th, 8:00 ET
Location: Glass Bowl, Toledo, OH
CFB Betting Odds: Toledo -6
Ball State vs. Toledo Live TV: ESPN2

The first game of the weekend is going to be an interesting one, as the Rockets and the Cardinals are both vying for bowl positioning and positioning in the MAC title race this year. There is going to be a lot of offense in this one, but we have a lot more confidence in QB Terrance Owens and his receivers than we do in QB Keith Wenning and the Cardinals. Toledo has a history and tradition of winning, and it is the team with the bigger wins this year. Of course, we have to give Ball State the credit for losing just three times this year with all three losses coming to teams that are at least getting some votes for the Top 25. In those games though, the Rockets allowed 52, 45, and 35 points, and that’s just bad news for Ball State. The Rockets meanwhile, already have a win over the Cincinnati Bearcats, and they have gone through the entire MAC schedule without a blemish this year. That’s good enough for us to go ahead and lay six points even though Toledo hasn’t won a game by more than six since October 6th.

Ball State @ Toledo Pick: Toledo -6
Ball State @ Toledo Score Prediction: Toledo 41 – Ball State 27

Matchup: Ball State Cardinals @ Buffalo Bulls
Date: Friday, November 12th, 6:00 ET
Location: UB Stadium, Buffalo, NY
Game Line: Buffalo -3
Over/Under 47

MAC conference rivals square off Friday night in Buffalo when the 3-7 Ball State Cardinals take on the 2-7 Buffalo Bulls. The last time college football bettors saw Ball State, the Cardinals were playing one of the worst games of the year, a 37-30 double overtime win against 0-10 Akron in which the teams combined to commit eight turnovers on the afternoon. In the game, QB Keith Wenning completed 14 of 27 passes for 217 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions, while RB MiQuale Lewis carried the ball for 72 yards. WR Jack Tomlinson was the star of the game for the Cardinals, hauling in seven passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns on the day. As for Buffalo, fans saw the Bulls in action in a mid-week game last Thursday, losing 34-17 to the Ohio Bobcats. Buffalo was soundly outplayed in this game, managing only 208 total yards of offense while giving up 386 yards. QB Alex Zordich had an awful game, managing to only complete 8 of 26 passes for 84 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Zordich also ran 20 times for 59 yards and a score, but no other running back could muster more than 32 yards on the Ohio defense.

Matchup: Boise State Broncos @ Idaho Vandals
Date: Friday, November 12th, 9:00 ET
Location: Kibbie Dome, Moscow, ID
Game Line: Boise State -34.5
Over/Under 63

The #3 Boise State Broncos look to keep their undefeated season and shot at a BCS Title alive when they travel to in-state rival Idaho to take on the 4-5 Vandals in Moscow this Friday night. Boise State has thoroughly dominated all WAC opponents this season, combining to outscore foes 198-27 in four games. Last week, Hawaii was the latest opponent to get steamrolled by the Broncos, with the Broncos racking up a 42-7 win to move themselves to 8-0 on the season. Boise State rolled up an eye-popping 737 yards of offense on the Warriors defense with Heisman candidate QB Kellen Moore accounting for most of the damage. Moore completed 30 of 37 passes for 507 yards for three touchdowns and threw two interceptions in the romp, with WRs Austin Pettis, Tyler Shoemaker, and Titus Young being the primary targets. As for Idaho, the Vandals defense must improve on their performance against Nevada if they have any prayer of knocking Boise State from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Vandals gave up an astounding 844 total yards of offense to the Wolfpack in their 63-17 defeat last Saturday. On offense, Idaho put up respectable numbers, accounting for 339 total yards, but four turnovers hurt the Vandals chances of hanging close with the Wolfpack. QB Nathan Enderle completed 15 of 34 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown in the loss, while the rushing attack could only muster 68 total yards.
