New York Yankees (+250) – The Yanks have found some way to get to the second round of the playoffs, but it certainly wasn’t something that was easy. The team now has a tough road to get into the World Series against the Tigers, especially knowing that CC Sabathia probably won’t get a chance to pitch twice in this series. It’s just not a great spot for the Bronx Bombers to be in, and we really don’t think that, in spite of the fact that they have the home field advantage in this one, they are going to be able to get into the Fall Classic.
Detroit Tigers (+265) – We said that we liked the Tigers at the start of this, and we aren’t getting off of that bandwagon any time in the near future. We know that Austin Jackson, Miguel Cabrera, and Prince Fielder didn’t have the greatest series in the world against the Athletics, but in the end, the pitching was able to get the job done. The bullpen will be in for a long series against the Yankees, but at least we know that Justin Verlander is going to get to pitch twice, and that theoretically should be two wins for Detroit. Don’t be shocked though, if Verlander’s Game 3 start is the one that really gets Detroit headed in the right direction to win this series.
San Francisco Giants (+275) – San Francisco is the loveable dark horse in these playoffs, but it has the best pitching staff with which to work with. Remember that Tim Lincecum only pitched in relief in the first round of the playoffs, and he might be called upon to start alongside Matt Cain and the other stellar starters that Manager Bruce Bochy has at his disposal. Buster Posey has proven that he is the real deal, and not only might he be the MVP of the league this year, but he could be the MVP of the playoffs as well if this keeps up. Posey and the lineup are sneakily good, and the Giants are rightfully the slight favorites on the odds to win the National League as well.
St. Louis Cardinals (+320) – The Cardinals were always the biggest underdogs on the odds to win the World Series, but should they ever be the underdog? They were down 1-0 in the NLDS to the team with the best record in baseball, and then when they were able to get the series to a Game 5 on the road, they figured out how to rally from a 6-0 deficit to get into the NLCS. If you look up the definition of moxie in the dictionary, you’re just going to see the Redbirds’ mascot staring back at you. No Albert Pujols? No Tony LaRussa? Apparently, it’s all no problem. That cardiac Cards are still flat out awesome.
