Texas Rangers (+550) – Is there a team out there in the bigs that is going to be able to beat the Rangers in a relatively short series? If Derek Holland, Yu Darvish, and Colby Lewis keep pitching like this over the course of the rest of the year, probably not. There is a reason that scouts think that this is the best team in baseball, and with as many games as the Rangers have opened up of a cushion in the AL West at this point, there is just no way that we see them not being contenders here in the American League.
Tampa Bay Rays (+1700) – We have been high on the Rays all season long, and that isn’t about to stop. James Shields and David Price are both absolutely aces, and Matt Moore and Jeremy Hellickson are both rounding into form as well. Wade Davis is becoming a force in the bullpen, and Fernando Rodney has been incredibly effective as the team’s closer with Kyle Farnsworth sitting on the disabled list. Boston and New York still don’t totally look right, and though Tampa Bay doesn’t quite feel all that perfect yet either, we know that the sky is the limit for this team. The schedule has been brutal thus far, and yet the Rays are still above .600. Eventually, the defense will shore up, some bats that really haven’t done all that much are going to wake up, and the schedule will loosen up, and that’s when everything could come together for a 100-win season in the Sunshine State.
Milwaukee Brewers (+4000) – One man just can’t possibly mean all that much to a team. Sure, Prince Fielder is gone, but if you look back at the rest of the team that the Brewers took into the playoffs last year, most of it is back and fully assembled. It’s the pitching that has really let this team down this year, and we know that that is going to fix itself at some point. John Axford’s ERA will settle in the 2.00s, not the high-4.00s, and Francisco Rodriguez will probably be able to say the same. Yovani Gallardo isn’t going to give up eight runs in two frames every time out there, and Randy Wolf has never been a pitcher with an ERA over a touchdown. The fact that Milwaukee is just 3.5 games back of the Cardinals to us is amazing, and we think that this will be a team that contends for, and eventually wins the NL Central crown. This is a steal of a price on a team that is still absolutely one of the best five in the National League.
