Bruins Lead Series 2-0

5DimesUnfortunately for the Rangers, they are about to get a much different story than they had in the first round of the playoffs. They fell behind 2-0 against the Washington Capitals in the opening round, only to storm back and win Games 3, 4, 6, and 7. However, this time around against Boston, they’re finished. We just don’t like what we see right now out of New York. We don’t like the confidence that G Henrik Lundqvist is playing with at the moment. He still has only won three overtime games in his career in the playoffs, and he is coming off of a total dud of a game against the B’s on Sunday in which he allowed five goals, two of which came in a brutal third period. The Rangers do have a real opportunity to at least get back in this series, but we don’t see it happening. The front line for Boston is playing significantly better than the front line of Washington ever was in the first round, and that’s going to make all the difference in the world. Once the Rangers fall behind in this one, we don’t see how they are ultimately going to get back on the horse. Boston is going to take Game 3 of this series and ultimately force New York to the brink of elimination.

Rangers vs. Bruins NHL On TV: NBC

Bruins Lead Series 1-0

Bovada NHL PlayoffsBoston has the right idea about how to approach the second round of the playoffs, and the approach isn’t all that different from the one that it had against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the opening round either. The Bruins are going to throw a ton of pucks at the net and see what sticks. Granted, a lot of the 48 shots that were put on G Henrik Lundqvist in Game 1 weren’t all that spectacular, but 16 of those shots came in just over 15 minutes of overtime play, and that was more than good enough to ultimately get the job done. As we saw it, the Bruins were the better of the two teams on the ice, and we are amazed that the oddsmakers don’t see it that way. If you take the value of home ice advantage on a normal night and don’t even consider the additional boost for this being the playoffs, the Bruins should be at least -140 favorites or so, even if they are only considered an equal team to New York. We didn’t see anything “equal” about Game 1, and that tells us that we are on the road to victory a lot more often than not if the Bruins are going to put forth the same type of effort in Game 2.

Rangers vs. Bruins Game 2 Pick: Boston Bruins -125

Series Tied 0-0

5DimesThe Bruins and the Rangers both scored a whopping five goals over the course of their Game 7 triumphs over the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals respectively, and as a result, we are struggling to try to figure out what in the heck the oddsmakers are doing lining this ‘total’ at 5 instead of at 5.5 for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The argument could be made that G Henrik Lundqvist is on fire, and yes, it’s true that he has stopped 64 straight shots in two straight shutouts. However, he was only above average at best in the rest of the games in this series against Washington, and we don’t expect that he is going to be able to slow down a line that generated a whopping 14 goals over the course of seven games for Boston against the Maple Leafs. G Tuukka Rask doesn’t quite look all that right either. He was never really outstanding in the first round against Toronto, and he put the team in a bad spot by allowing goals on four of his 28 shots faced in Game 7 on Monday night. Simply put, the way that these two are playing right now, we have to think there is a decent chance that both will get to at least two goals when push comes to shove. This might be the postseason, but it’s not going to be a total slug fest in all likelihood.

Series Tied 3-3

NHL BookmakerAlright Boston, it’s time to wake up and smell the roses! The Bruins know that they are in some trouble in this game, as they have all of the pressure in the world on their shoulders. They have lost two straight games against the Maple Leafs, one at home and one away from home, and now, they are forced to win Game 7 if they are to extend their season by at least another week and a half or so. There is going to be a lot of support for Toronto, especially knowing that it is going to be a heavy, heavy underdog in this game. However, sometimes you just have to go with your gut. Our gut is still telling us that the better team is going to find a way to win this series. The Maple Leafs have the lesser goalie. They have the lesser front line for sure. They have the lesser defense. They have very little depth in comparison to Boston. In the end, the Bruins are playing at home as well, and we just can’t imagine this team, which dominated parts of the first four games of this series like we haven’t seen in the playoffs from most teams this year, losing a third straight game overall and a second straight here at home. This is where we should be seeing the whole “Boston Strong” thing come up. The Bruins are a strong team, and they have overcome so many situations like this in the past. The Maple Leafs just aren’t experienced enough or talented enough to come into Beantown and win a Game 7 quite yet. They should hold their heads high in defeat, but defeat it will still be.

Bruins Lead Series 3-2

5DimesThe Maple Leafs have to be asking themselves what they have to do to win a game in this series. Toronto hasn’t won at home in this series, and for the most part, it hasn’t come all that close to getting the job done either. The Leafs have had no answers whatsoever to the Boston offense, which has scored a whopping 16 goals in the first five games of this series. So to answer the question as to what Toronto has to do to win? Hope that G James Reimer comes up with the game of his life for the second straight game. Reimer stopped 43-of-44 shots in Game 5 at the TD Garden, but we just can’t expect him to do the same thing again in this one. We don’t want to say that home ice advantage is totally meaningless in this series, but the truth of the matter is that the home team has lost four straight games. Boston has ripped off an average of 41.6 shots per game in this series, and that’s only with one overtime period added into the mix. It’s unbelievable how many chances this team is producing, and it’s only a matter of time until the floodgates open once again. Don’t be shocked if the Bruins close this puppy out with a huge performance in this one.

Bruins Lead Series 3-1

5DimesAt the outset of the postseason, goals were at a premium for most of the teams across the league, but all of a sudden over the course of the last few days, ‘overs’ have been flying in. This series between Boston and Toronto has had no shortage of goals in it, and it simply comes from a slew of opportunities. The home team has averaged 44.0 shots per game in this series, and the hosts have had at least 40 shots in each of those games. Only one of the four went to overtime, and unfortunately for the Maple Leafs, they were on the wrong end of the game that could have tied this series. This Boston team is already starting to look a little bit like the team that won the Stanley Cup two years ago. The offense is clicking, and C David Krejci is playing like a Conn Smythe Award contender. The Bruins are almost showing a blind aggression, and G James Reimer is putting up stats that make him look like he has been a heck of a lot worse than truly has been. With desperation officially here for the Maple Leafs, we have to think that this is a game that is ultimately going to get past the number once again. The oddsmakers have risen the number to reach to 5.5 at most sportsbooks, but we don’t think it truly matters. This one should reach at least six or seven goals for the fourth (and probably final) straight game.

Maple Leafs vs. Bruins Game 5 Pick: Over 5.5

Bruins Lead Series 2-1

Bovada NHL PlayoffsThe Bruins have really seized control of this first round series against the Leafs, and they ultimately have a chance to essentially put this series away if they can find a way to take a second game here at the Air Canada Centre. Toronto just doesn’t have the goods to be able to keep up with the high flyers that Boston is bringing to the table. LW Milan Lucic had three of his six assists in this series in Game 3′s win, while C David Krejci had one of his two goals and two of his four helpers in this series that night as well. The bottom line is that the defenders for the Maple Leafs aren’t doing a good enough job to protect G James Reimer. Reimer, as it is, isn’t the better of the two goalies in this game, and he isn’t going to be able to win this series by himself like we know that G Tuukka Rask can. Rask hasn’t been at his best, but he has been rock solid in Games 1 and 3. If Rask can be strong in the pipes in this game, there is just no way that the Bruins are going to lose when push comes to shove. We have to think that Toronto is said and done with.

Series Tied 1-1

5DimesFor the first time in nine years, the Maple Leafs are going to be hosting a playoff game, and we are just downright shocked that they are going to be underdogs on the NHL odds in this one. Toronto might not be the better team in this series, but it does have the home ice advantage in this series now, and that alone might give it the edge. G Tuukka Rask didn’t have a great game against the Maple Leafs on Saturday, allowing four goals. All of the best players for Toronto have found a way to get onto the stat sheet in some form or another. RW Phil Kessel has a goal, LW James Van Riemsdyk now has two strikes, and LW Joffrey Lupul scored twice in a span of six and a half minutes. These are the men that need to be the killers for Toronto against Boston, and there just aren’t all that many others that have a great possibility to get the job done on the team. That’s the difference between Toronto and Boston. The Bruins have a full four lines of players that can score and score on any given shift. However, on this day, we have to think that this is absolutely no worse than a 50/50 proposition for the Maple Leafs. The Air Canada Centre is going to be rocking, and the Leafs are going to win this game for their hometown crowd, which is just hungrier for the Stanley Cup than any other fan base in the league.

Maple Leafs vs. Bruins NHL On TV: CNBC

Bruins Lead Series 1-0

5DimesThe Bruins were out to send a message to the Maple Leafs in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, and they were able to do so with the effectiveness of a bullhorn. Not only did Boston win the game 4-1, but it also outshot Toronto 4-1 and also won the physical battle as well. There was never a doubt that the Maple Leafs never really had a shot to match the physicality in this game that the B’s brought to the table, and if that doesn’t change in Game 2, the result will be another blowout. That being said, things really couldn’t have gotten much worse for Toronto. The team lost seemingly every single 50/50 puck, and it was only able to get its top line on the ice for a total of 21 shifts. Both RW Phil Kessel and C Nazem Kadri were held to just a single shot and just under 14 minutes of ice time, and all of that is clearly going to have to change if the Leafs are going to get into the win column. The trick is going to be to try to get some more time on the Boston side of the ice and get some pressure on G Tuukka Rask. G James Reimer was destroyed in his first playoff start with the Maple Leafs, as he had to face 40 shots on goal. Expect to see at least a slightly more level game in this one. We’ll take the puck-line, as we do think that the B’s are going to win this game, but not by more than a goal.

Maple Leafs vs. Bruins Game 2 Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs +1.5 (-175)

Series Tied 0-0

Bovada NHL PlayoffsDo the Maple Leafs really have a shot in this series against the Bruins? The truth of the matter is if you look at the history between these two teams over the course of the last 10 games, the answer is definitively not. Toronto only has one win in that bunch, and that came at home back in March. Take that game away, and there are nine defeats since the start of the 2011 season, which have come by the composite score of 44-14. Yikes! However, when you really dig deeper and take a look at the way that these two are playing right now, you don’t see a whole heck of a lot of differences. The Leafs have just two wins in their last six games. The Bruins have two wins in their last nine. Boston hasn’t beaten a playoff team in over three weeks. Toronto has just one win over a postseason foe since April 13th. That’s why it just doesn’t make all that much sense to us that the Maple Leafs are such huge underdogs in this game. Toronto is raw, yes, but in the end, this time of year, stars crop up all the time out of nowhere. Whether it be someone like C Tyler Bozak, who might be playing a heck of a game through a lower body injury, or C Nazem Kadri, whom few outside of the serious hockey fans had ever heard of before this year, someone is going to step it up for Toronto and find a way to get the team in the win column in this one.

The New Jersey Devils and the Boston Bruins are going to square off on the NHL odds and betting lines on Wednesday. Join us here at Cappers Info, as we make our Bruins @ Devils picks & predictions for hockey for what should be a great game on Wednesday.

Free NHL Picks: Boston Bruins at New Jersey Devils
Date: Wednesday, April 10th, 7:30 ET
Location: Prudential Center, Newark, NJ
NHL Betting Odds: Boston -136
Bruins vs. Devils NHL On TV: NBC Sports Network

5DimesThe oddsmakers really have no choice but to make the ‘total’ of this game just five goals, but the truth of the matter is that that number is probably far too high for the way that these two teams are playing right now. New Jersey has lost seven games in a row, and it really hasn’t gotten anything out of its offense over the course of the last several games. The Devils have just four goals scored in their last four, and they are going to be running into one of the hottest goalies in hockey in G Tuukka Rask. Rask has a sub-2.00 GAA this year, making Bruins fans forget about the fact that G Tim Thomas basically abandoned the team in the offseason. Of course, the Boston offense has only averaged 2.7 goals per game this season as well, and the median score is only two goals for the team this year, and it’s a lot closer to one than it is three or more. We just don’t trust that the Bruins are going to be able to get the job done in this game and put a number of goals up on the board, and if that turns out to be the case, this should be one of the lower scoring games of the day on Wednesday on the ice.

Bruins vs. Devils Pick: Under 5

The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins are going to square off on the NHL odds and betting lines on Sunday. Join us here at Cappers Info, as we make our Bruins @ Penguins picks & predictions for hockey for what should be a great game on Sunday.

Free NHL Picks: Boston Bruins at Pittsburgh Penguins
Date: Sunday, February 17th, 12:30 ET
Location: Consol Energy Arena, Pittsburgh, PA
NHL Betting Odds: Pittsburgh -140
Bruins vs. Penguins NHL On TV: NBC

5DimesThis is going to be an interesting game on Sunday for sure. The Penguins are playing tremendous hockey, having won eight straight games. They are averaging well over four goals per game in this stretch, and they have netted at least three in all of those outings. What’s really making Pittsburgh scary is that it is getting better play out of its goalies as well. G Marc-Andre Fleury and G Tomas Vokoun have combined for four straight games with a total of just four games allowed. If there is a game that the Penguins are going to lose though, this is the one. The argument could be made that the B’s have played the best hockey in the league, save for the Chicago Blackhawks from their first 24 games of the season. G Tuukka Rask is having a Vezina Trophy type of season, as he has a 14-2-3 record with a 1.91 GAA and a .930 save percentage. Rask also took the day off on Saturday, something that G Marc-Andre Fleury can’t say. We’ll take the plus odds on the Bruins every single day of the week in this situation regardless of how hot the Penguins are.

Bruins vs. Penguins Pick: Boston Bruins +125
Bruins at Penguins Score Prediction: Boston 3 – Pittsburgh 2
