Third Round Betting Lines
#12 California Golden Bears +7.5
#4 Syracuse Orange -7.5
Over/Under 124.5

The Orange are going to have their way with the Golden Bears as we see it on Saturday in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse’s 2-3 zone is really setup perfectly to stop everything that Cal is going to try to do in the half-court. G Allen Crabbe and G Justin Cobbs are long range shooters, and they are going to have to either figure out how to slash into the heart of the 2-3 zone, or shoot over or around it. It’s just not going to happen. The Orange are playing out of their mind defensively right now, and if you take out a bad second half of basketball against the Louisville Cardinals in the Big East Tournament, teams just aren’t scoring anything against this unit. On top of that, Head Coach Jim Boeheim has a team that is relatively rested, knowing that no one really had to play all that long or that hard to beat the Montana Grizzlies on Thursday. The Golden Bears meanwhile, had to play an insanely physical game against the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels that came right down to the wire. In the end, this is just a bad looking game for Cal. We love the way that the Pac-12 has played here in this tournament to this point, but this is where teams like the Golden Bears are going to bow out.

#12 California Golden Bears +2.5
#5 UNLV Runnin’ Rebels -2.5
Over/Under 131

5Dimes NCAA TournamentThere aren’t many games that you’ll see in the NCAA Tournament that are rematches of regular season games, but here in San Jose, we have almost an identical matchup. This is going to be a bit like a home game for Cal, playing right up the road in San Jose, and it is going to basically be hosting the same UNLV team that it lost to by a single point in the regular season. In that game though, there were a lot of miscues for California, and the Golden Bears have to know it. They have the guards to make a nice run here in this tournament in G Allen Crabbe and G Justin Cobbs, and they are going to be able to hold down the rest of the guards that the Rebs are going to bring to the table as a result. The question is whether F Anthony Bennett can continue to dominate at this level. He had a monster game the first time around versus California, and he probably could do the same in this one. But again, this is a guard’s tournament, and you’re not going to find a better tandem in terms of pure scoring than what Cal brings to the table. We like the Golden Bears on Thursday night to advance in San Jose.

The time is here for more of our sparkling CBB picks, as we look at the schedule for basketball for Wednesday night. The California Golden Bears and Stanford Cardinal will have it in a nationally televised game, which can be seen on the college basketball TV schedule on ESPN.

Free College Hoops Picks: Stanford Cardinal @ California Golden Bears
Date: Wednesday, March 6th, 11:00 ET
Location: Haas Pavilion, Berkeley, CA
Stanford vs. California Live TV: ESPN2

The Golden Bears and the Cardinal are both bubble battlers in the Pac-12, but one of these teams is in significantly better shape than the other. Stanford has two wins in its last six games, and it has failed every step of the way to get that big time win that would push it over the top. Cal meanwhile, has seven wins in a row, four of which have come against teams that either are certainly in the NCAA Tournament or likely will be in when push comes to shove. What’s really making the difference for the Golden Bears is their defense, and that’s what we are going to highlight in this one. They have held three of their last four foes to exactly 46 points, and no one has reached higher than 68 against them in 10 straight games. Even teams with great offenses like UCLA, Arizona, and Oregon have been held down in the 40s, 50s, and 60s, and there is no reason to think that Stanford is going to even get into the 60s in this one. If that turns out to be the case, we have to back the ‘under’. Asking these two rivals to get to 135 points is a heck of a challenge, especially knowing that the first clash of this year only made it to 128.

Stanford vs. California Pick: Under 134.5
Stanford vs. California Prediction: California 67 – Stanford 58

The time is here for more of our sparkling CBB picks, as we look at the schedule for basketball for Wednesday night. The California Golden Bears and Washington Huskies will have it in a nationally televised game, which can be seen on the college basketball TV schedule on ESPN2.

Free College Hoops Picks: Washington Huskies @ California Golden Bears
Date: Wednesday, January 9th, 11:00 ET
Location: Haas Pavilion, Berkeley, CA
Washington vs. California Live TV: ESPN2

If you’re going to back the boys from Berkeley in this one, you know that you’re relying on G Allen Crabbe and G Justin Cobbs to get the job done. These two are the heart and soul of this team, and they are combining to score more than half of the team’s points per game this year. Crabbe is one of the top scorers in the entire country, averaging 21.4 points per game, and he rarely sits, averaging over 34 minutes per game on the court. The junior has had four straight games with at least 21 points scored, and he has missed a grand total of just four minutes of game time in his last three games. On the other side of the court though, we really like the way that the Huskies are playing at the moment. The team started off Pac-12 play by beating the Washington State Cougars on the road, and that marked U-Dub’s fifth win in its last six games, most of which have come by suitable margins. The Huskies have covered three of the last four in this series, and thy did win by 21 points here at Haas Pavilion last year. Cal has proven beatable at home, as the Harvard Crimson, Creighton Blue Jays, and UNLV Runnin’ Rebels have all done it recently. The Huskies might be the next added to that list.

Washington vs. California Pick: Washington Huskies +6.5
Washington vs. California Prediction: Washington 72 – California 68

Week 11 pointspreads are out, and here at Cappers Info, we are set to analyze the college football odds for one of the top games on the slate. The Oregon Ducks vs. California Golden Bears odds are posted, and we are set to make our CFB picks for another great game.

Week 11 College Football Picks: Oregon Ducks @ California Golden Bears
Date: Saturday, November 10th, 10:30 ET
Location: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
CFB Betting Odds: Oregon -28
Oregon vs. California Live TV: ESPN

This is just a butt ugly game for the Golden Bears, who are clearly going to be rocked by a healthy margin. However, are the Ducks going to win it by more than four touchdowns? That’s a tough task on the road in a conference game against a team that literally has nothing to play for but this game. This is the home finale for the Bears, and it is likely to be the last home game for Head Coach Jeff Tedford as well. This Cal team has some talent, and it should be a whole heck of a lot better than a disappointing 3-7. Remember that Oregon has had a history of going long periods of time without scoring offensively, and it just looks disinterested against the suspect teams on the slate. This just feels like one of these games where the Quack Attack jumps out to a 21-0 lead but takes their foot off of the gas pedal, ultimately to win by just about this same 21 points.

Oregon @ California Pick: California Golden Bears +28
Oregon @ California Score Prediction: Oregon 41 – California 20

The 2012 college football season is back, and here at Cappers Info, we’ll be looking at some of the best games on the docket each and every week, as we try to make the most money possible off of the CFB odds for the week. Join us on Friday night, as we make our Washington Huskies @ California Golden Bears free picks and predictions for what should be a great clash on the gridiron.

Week 10 College Football Picks: Washington Huskies @ California Golden Bears
Date: Friday, November 2nd, 9:00 ET
Location: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
CFB Betting Odds: California -3.5
Washington @ California Live TV: ESPN2

If it looks like a fish and smells like a fish, there must be something fishy about it. Washington is coming off of its biggest win of the year, a 20-17 upset of the Oregon State Beavers last week. The team does have four losses, but those losses have come to the Oregon Ducks, LSU Tigers, USC Trojans, and Arizona Wildcats, all of which are ranked in the Top 25 in the land and two of which are in the Top 10. There really is no shame in any of those losses. Meanwhile, Cal is coming off of two bad losses to the Utah Utes and the Stanford Cardinal, and it has played a significantly easier schedule to date. In the end though, QB Zach Maynard is putting up significantly better numbers than QB Keith Price, and we don’t think that he is going to turn the ball over four times like QB Sean Mannion did last week. That’s why Cal is favored in this one in spite of what it looks like should be the case, and we think that Head Coach Jeff Tedford will keep his team’s bowl hopes alive with a win on Friday night in front of a national audience.

Washington @ California Pick: California -3.5
Washington @ California Score Prediction: California 34 – Washington 20

Week 8 pointspreads are out, and here at Cappers Info, we are set to analyze the college football odds for one of the top games on the slate. The Stanford Cardinal vs. California Golden Bears odds are posted, and we are set to make our CFB picks for another great game.

Week 8 College Football Picks: Stanford Cardinal @ California Golden Bears
Date: Saturday, October 20th, 3:00 ET
Location: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
CFB Betting Odds: Stanford -2.5
Stanford vs. California Live TV: FOX

Dear Head Coach Jeff Tedford: If you have any intentions of keeping your job, this would be a good game to figure out how to win. This is the best shot that the Bears have had of beating the Cardinal in the last three years, and a third straight loss in the Big Game would go a long way towards booting Tedford out the door from Berkeley once and for all. QB Zach Maynard and his offense have been sparkling over the course of the last few weeks, something that QB Josh Nunes and the Cardinal just haven’t. Granted, we know that Stanford has had a heck of a schedule, including a trip on the road to South Bend against arguably the best defense in America. However, Nunes just has to complete more than the 53.3 percent of his passes that he is getting into his receivers’ hands right now. That won’t cut it. Cal should get the job done and win the Big Game 2012.

Stanford @ California Pick: Cal Golden Bears +2.5
Stanford @ California Score Prediction: California 31 – Stanford 21

The Arizona State Sun Devils and the California Golden Bears are going to square off in Week 5 of the college football betting campaign. Join us here at Cappers Info, as we make our predictions for football for what should be a great game on Saturday.

Week 5 College Football Picks: Arizona State Sun Devils @ California Golden Bears
Date: Saturday, September 29th, 4:00 ET
Location: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
CFB Betting Odds: Pick ‘Em
Arizona State vs. California Live TV: FX

Arizona State is going to be the latest team in the Pac-12 this year that is trying to sneak into the bottom of the Top 25 this year. The club came up with a romp of a first game in the Pac-12, a 37-7 win over the Utah Utes, who are struggling in their own right. Cal has been dumped in two straight games, and Head Coach Jeff Tedford badly needs this one. The Golden Bears haven’t been terrible, particularly defensively this year, and we think that they are a heck of a lot better than their 1-3 record suggests. If Cal has any chance of making a bowl game, and if Tedford has any chance of keeping his job, this is a game that has to be – and we think will be – won.

Arizona State @ California Pick: California Pick ‘Em
Arizona State @ California Score Prediction: California 34 – Arizona State 23

College football betting fans are running to their online sportsbooks to place their California Golden Bears vs. USC bets and predictions, and here at Cappers Info, we are making our Saturday football picks for this encounter.

Week 4 College Football Picks: California Golden Bears @ USC Trojans
Date: Saturday, September 22nd, 6:00 ET
Location: Los Angeles Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA
CFB Betting Odds: USC -15.5
California vs. USC Live TV: Pac-12 Network

The Trojans have won eight straight games in this series and have covered six of the last seven, but this is a scary spot for them to be in. USC is vulnerable now, and it is coming off of a poor offensive game against Stanford in which it just didn’t play well. The Men of Troy aren’t in good shape, and Cal needs a win in a big time way. Head Coach Jeff Tedford’s job might depend on it. We don’t think that the Trojans are going to end up losing the game, but this could be a lot closer than most probably think. This won’t be a case of USC coming out off of a loss ready to just pounce. The Golden Bears should be able to hang, just like they did last week in the Horseshoe against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

California @ USC Pick: California +15.5
California @ USC Score Prediction: USC 28 – Cal 27

Week 3 pointspreads are out, and here at Cappers Info, we are set to analyze the college football odds for one of the top games on the slate. The California Golden Bears vs. Ohio State Buckeyes odds are posted, and we are set to make our CFB picks for another great game.

Week 3 College Football Picks: California Golden Bears @ Ohio State Buckeyes
Date: Saturday, September 15th, 12:00 ET
Location: Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH
CFB Betting Odds: Ohio State -16.5
California vs. Ohio State Live TV: ABC

Cal had its troubles two weeks ago against Nevada and had its troubles last week against Southern Utah for a good chunk of the game before turning on the jets to walk away with a fourth quarter triumph. Unfortunately for the Bears, this is a significantly, significantly different challenge. What we do see out of these Golden Bears though, is the ability to score some points. We do think that they’ll be able to at least put a couple scores on the board against Ohio State. The question? Will QB Braxton Miller be stopped? If he is, this could be a great spot to back Cal, not necessarily for an upset, but to at least stick inside of this number. Instead, we’re going to go with the ‘over’ though, as we really do believe that we’ll see enough out of both of these offenses to push this past the number.

California @ Ohio State Pick: Cal/Ohio State Over 54.5
California @ Ohio State Score Prediction: Ohio State 37 – California 24

The first day of bracket predictions are here for the NCAA Tournament, and today, we are going to be taking a look at the First Four games to be played in Dayton.

NCAA Tournament Matchup: Vermont Catamounts vs. Lamar Cardinals
Date: Wednesday, March 14th, 6:30 ET
Location: UD Arena, Dayton, OH
March Madness Odds: Lamar -2.5
NCAA Tournament TV Schedule: truTV

Lamar is a team that is going to get a heck of a lot of hype, knowing that Head Coach Pat Knight went nuts on his team in an interview that went viral after a terrible loss in the Southland Conference. However, Vermont is a team with a heck of a lot of talent and tradition on it, and we think that it is a very good omen that it has that 3-1 ATS mark from the America East Tournament this year. The Catamounts have a nasty defense, and we think that this ‘D’ is going to be what frustrates a Lamar team that tends to lose its cool on the court (just like its coach does off the court). In the end, this will be the difference and will send Vermont to play North Carolina on Friday.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Vermont +2.5

NCAA Tournament Matchup: South Florida Bulls vs. California Golden Bears
Date: Wednesday, March 14th, 9:00 ET
Location: UD Arena, Dayton, OH
March Madness Odds: California -2.5
NCAA Tournament TV Schedule: truTV

This one is awfully simple. Cal shouldn’t be playing here in Dayton and it should be on the bracket. South Florida shouldn’t be here in Dayton either, but it should be playing at home in the NIT instead. The Bulls just didn’t beat all that many teams this year of note, and we are definitely wondering out loud just how good the Big East was this season. We know that the Pac-12 was nothing special, but was it really a conference that was bad enough to warrant sending just two teams to the dance, one of which might not even make it to the main bracket? We just don’t think so. This is a conference that always has teams going on runs in the tourney, and though we don’t think that Cal is the team that is going to be able to get into the Sweet 16 this year, we do think that it is at least going to have its shot to take on Temple on Friday.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Cal -2.5

Over the course of the first week of bowl games, there aren’t a heck of a lot of teams that are the big time collegiate programs that are going to send thousands and thousands of fans to the game. That all changes when we make our Holiday Bowl picks though, as the Texas Longhorns take on the Cal Golden Bears in San Diego.

Click Here For The Rest Of Our 2011-12 Bowl Game Previews

Holiday Bowl Matchup: California Golden Bears vs. Texas Longhorns
Holiday Bowl Date/Time: Wednesday, December 28th, 4:30 ET
Holiday Bowl Location: Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, CA
Holiday Bowl Odds: Texas -3
Holiday Bowl Total: 47.5
Holiday Bowl TV Coverage: ESPN, ESPN3.com

Depending on which team turns out to dominate the flow of this game, there could either be a whole heck of a lot of offense or a whole heck of a lot of defense in this game. Texas is hoping for defense. Cal is probably a little more flexible, but generally, it is hoping for offense. Both teams have proven that they can win either type of game though, and that should make for an awesome Holiday Bowl, making it one of the best bowl games early in the season.

Texas has its problems offensively, though. The team really never did settle on a quarterback this year, though we tend to think that QB Case McCoy, brother of Longhorns’ legend QB Colt McCoy who will take the majority of the snaps in this game. The running situation is murky as well, as there could be a heck of a lot of different players carrying the pigskin. There really hasn’t been much continuity due to injury, but the unit is still averaging over 200 yards per game on the ground. If this isn’t going to be the case at the Holiday Bowl though, the Horns are clearly in a heck of a lot of trouble. The good news though, is that their defense is tremendous. It had some games this year in which it just didn’t stack up, like the regular season finale against Heisman Trophy winner, QB Robert Griffin and the Baylor Bears, but for the most part, they really performed well against the middle of the road teams in the conference who are comparable to what they will be taking on with the Golden Bears.

Cal uses the run and pass effectively, and Head Coach Jeff Tedford has really done a nice job making the best out of a bad situation at quarterback. QB Zach Maynard is a transfer from the University of Buffalo, and he survived an offseason challenge to take over the starting quarterback job, and he never looked back. WRs Keenan Allen and Marvin Jones can both go deep, and when secondaries are loosened up, it really makes more room for RBs Isi Sofele and CJ Anderson, both of which have the big time running capabilities as well. This offense has it all, but the reason why this team didn’t make the most of its situation this year is because it took awhile for it all to gel and there are still some tremendous inconsistencies.

We just don’t love this Texas team, but we aren’t really all that wild over Cal either. That being said, we think that this game is a bit of a toss-up. Nothing would surprise us, but we’d rather take the points and have them on our side than lay points. The Golden Bears weren’t in a bowl game last year, but they are going to be thrilled to be in a de facto home game in this one. We’re still not all that sure, two years removed from playing in the BCS National Championship Game, how excited the Longhorns are about playing in the Holiday Bowl as well.

Free Holiday Bowl Pick: California +3
