The time is here for more of our sparkling CBB picks, as we look at the schedule for basketball for Wednesday night. The Connecticut Huskies and Georgetown Hoyas will have it in a nationally televised game, which can be seen on the college basketball TV schedule on ESPN2.

Free College Hoops Picks: Georgetown Hoyas @ Connecticut Huskies
Date: Wednesday, February 27th, 7:00 ET
Location: XL Center, Storrs, CT
Georgetown vs. Connecticut Live TV: ESPN2

The Huskies are down to just four games to their season, and they are going to hope to pull off another upset on Wednesday night to get the team to a 20th win on the campaign. There is no doubt that this is one of the better teams in the land and is the one of the top dogs in the Big East, and the argument could have been made to put UConn around a No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament had it been eligible. G Shabazz Napier has been red hot over the course of the last several games, and he is now up over 17 points per game on average on the season. The Hoyas have rolled off nine wins in a row both SU and ATS, and they came up with their signature win of the season on Saturday when the trounced the Syracuse Orange 57-46 at the Carrier Dome. In this run of good fortune, they now have wins over the Orange, the Cincinnati Bearcats, Marquette Golden Eagles, Louisville Cardinals, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. However, we think that the good luck is about set to end. There’s no way to expect another 33-point effort out of F Otto Porter like Georgetown got against Syracuse, and it is going to be awfully tough to hold a second straight great team in the Big East down on the road. Every dog has his day, and this is a day for the Huskies to shine.

Georgetown vs. Connecticut Pick: Connecticut Huskies +2.5
Georgetown vs. Connecticut Prediction: Connecticut 60 – Georgetown 54

The Bearcats and the Huskies are becoming relatively easy to handicap from an outsider’s perspective. Cincinnati is a team that really is having a tough time beating some of the best teams in the Big East. The squad was beaten by the Georgetown Hoyas on Friday night by eight at home, and that marked the third loss over the course of the last four games. The last victory against a team that is likely to make the NCAA Tournament came back on January 19th against the Marquette Golden Eagles and the last truly signature win was way back on New Year’s Eve. The team hasn’t scored more than 68 in regulation since the game against Marquette either. Connecticut meanwhile, seems to get up for its biggest games of the year. The team knocked off the Syracuse Orange and has a ‘W’ on the road at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but it has losses to teams like the St. John’s Red Storm and the Villanova Wildcats as well. This is one of those in between games for both squads. The Huskies aren’t the top echelon of teams in the Big East, but they aren’t chopped liver either. Cincinnati is a bit closer to Villanova and St. John’s than Syracuse, but it is still a tourney team no less. In the end, the home court advantage in Storrs is going to go a long way in this one, and we think that the Huskies will ultimately pull out a victory.

Cincinnati vs. Connecticut Pick: Connecticut Huskies +1
Cincinnati vs. Connecticut Prediction: Connecticut 72 – Cincinnati 65

The Huskies and the Orange have a history of playing really close games against each other, but the college basketball lines are going to reflect just that in this game. The Orange came out on Sunday and blew out the St. John’s Red Storm at the Carrier Dome, and we think that they really could do the same thing to the Huskies on Wednesday night as well. The key is going to be getting F James Southerland going. He scored 13 and was a real spark off of the Syracuse bench on Sunday, and if he puts together a similar performance in this one, this game isn’t going to be all that close. There’s only so much that G Shabazz Napier and G Ryan Boatright are going to be able to do. We think that they can keep this one close for a bit of time, but when push comes to shove and the game is really on the line, we know that the Orange have what it takes to win, especially with Southerland out there jacking up three-point shots all over the place once again. Syracuse is a whole team now, and that’s scary for the rest of the country.

Syracuse vs. Connecticut Pick: Syracuse Orange -4
Syracuse vs. Connecticut Prediction: Syracuse 72 – Connecticut 64

The Huskies are playing the role of spoiler for a number of teams in the Big East this year, and after taking care of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over the weekend, they’re going to try to do it again versus Louisville. This is a heck of a lot different challenge, though. The Cardinals have beaten the snot out of all of their foes that they have faced since December 4th. Those nine foes have been crushed by the average final score of 80-56. The only team that has really come anywhere close to beating the Cards has been the Kentucky Wildcats, and with all due respect to the Huskies, they just aren’t as talented as the Cats. A 64-38 win over the South Florida Bulls wasn’t all that notable for Louisville over the weekend, but what really made that game impressive is that G Russ Smith only shot 2-of-13 from the floor. Remember that Smith is the leading scorer for the team, and he was averaging over 20 points per game before this one. As well as we feel as though the Huskies have played this year, we just don’t think that they have the goods to keep up with a team that is 5-1 ATS in the last six in this series and 9-2 ATS in its last 11 games on the road.

Louisville vs. Connecticut Pick: Louisville Cardinals -6
Louisville vs. Connecticut Prediction: Louisville 78 – Connecticut 64

UConn and Harvard are going to be meeting for the fourth straight year, and the Huskies hope that they have the same type of success in this one as they did in the last three. They’re 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS in those games. Connecticut was beaten by the NC State Wolfpack a few nights ago, but we’re not really letting that bother us all that much. This is still a solid team that has the ability to win games by oodles of points when push comes to shove. Harvard has won two in a row over the Boston College Eagles and Fordham Rams, but this is a much different game. These two do have a common foe in the Vermont Catamounts. Harvard lost at home to the Catamounts 85-78. UConn won 67-49. This is still a very talented Harvard team, but the squad just isn’t as good as it has been in the last two years or so, and it will show on Friday when UConn rips it apart to the tune of a double digit victory.

Harvard vs. Connecticut Pick: Connecticut -9
Harvard vs. Connecticut Prediction: Connecticut 78 – Harvard 65

The Jimmy V Classic is one of the best preseason college basketball events of the year, and games like this are why that’s the case. NC State and UConn really have underachieved this year, as they have three losses between them. Of course, we wouldn’t rule out either one playing in the Sweet 16 or even beyond this year, but at this point, there isn’t anything to be thrilled about either team. The Huskies have struggled at times offensively this year, knowing that the team hasn’t scored more than 77 points in regulation in a game in spite of the fact that the schedule has been relatively weak. NC State has had some great games, but some bad games as well, and it seems that the club only goes as far as its sharpshooters can take it. We think that this is going to be a lower scoring game in spite of the fact that the potential is there for both to make some headway on the other, as we think that the inconsistencies of both are going to shine through.

NC State vs. Connecticut Pick: Under 144
NC State vs. Connecticut Prediction: NC State 68 – Connecticut 64

Join us on Saturday night, as we make our Cincinnati Bearcats @ Connecticut Huskies free picks and predictions for what should be a great clash on the gridiron.

Week 14 College Football Picks: Cincinnati Bearcats @ Connecticut Huskies
Date: Saturday, December 1st, 3:30 ET
Location: Rentschler Field, Storrs, CT
CFB Betting Odds: Cincinnati -4.5
Cincinnati @ Connecticut Live TV: ABC

The Huskies know that they have to pull off the upset in this game if they are going to go to a bowl game this year. Unfortunately for them though, it probably isn’t going to happen. Cincinnati might have coughed up its game against Rutgers two weeks ago to fall out of the Big East title race, but the Bearcats did come back and post a 27-10 victory against South Florida last week. The team has covered four out of five, and it has really played well offensively, save for that game against the Scarlet Knights. UConn has covered two in a row and won both games outright in upset fashion, but this isn’t really a great spot. The Bearcats were the better team last year in a 35-27 win at Nippert Stadium in the regular season finale, and we don’t see this being any exception whatsoever.

Cincinnati @ Connecticut Pick: Cincinnati Bearcats -4.5
Cincinnati @ Connecticut Score Prediction: Cincinnati 28 – Connecticut 19

Outside of the top three teams in the Big East, the rest of this conference is in shambles. At the moment, no one aside from the Louisville Cardinals, Cincinnati Bearcats, and Rutgers Scarlet Knights will be going bowling, and about the only hope for that to change is if Pittsburgh can beat Connecticut on Friday night. Unfortunately for the conference, we just don’t see that happening. The Panthers are coming off of a tremendous emotional letdown, as they put absolutely everything that they had into the game at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. They came up short in that one, and they are now going to have to pick up the pieces having blown a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter and then having blown a shot to win it in overtime just by simply kicking a short field goal. Instead, it’s back to the drawing board, and on just four days of rest with two days to travel, the Panthers have to get ready to go back on the road to take on an inferior opponent. It just doesn’t bode well for U-Pitt in this one.

Pittsburgh @ Connecticut Pick: Connecticut +3
Pittsburgh @ Connecticut Score Prediction: Connecticut 21 – Pittsburgh 17

The Spartans and the Huskies are headed overseas for their first game of the year, and they are going to look like two totally different teams from last year’s clubs that made it into the NCAA Tournament. Michigan State is going to be without F Draymond Green, who really did it all for them, but at least they have some veteran leadership, such as that of G Keith Appling to fall back on. The Huskies on the other hand, have lost F Alex Oriakhi to a transfers, as well as G Jeremy Lamb to the NBA. There really aren’t any prolific scorers that can take over a game on the team, and there isn’t a player on the team that averaged even four boards per game last year that is returning. This is the first UConn team in quite some time that doesn’t have arguably any NBA talent on it, and that is going to make life tough for first year Head Coach Kevin Ollie. This is going to be a tough one for Connecticut, and it should ultimately end up getting clocked by a Spartans outfit that is never afraid to take on anyone, anywhere in the world.

Michigan State vs. Connecticut Pick: Michigan State Spartans -8.5
Michigan State vs. Connecticut Prediction: Michigan State 77 – Connecticut 65

November 9th, 2012 By Jack Wilshire

Of all of the games on the Friday 11/9 college football betting schedule, one of my favorite is the clash between the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Connecticut Huskies. Join me for my Week 11 tips for this 8:00 p.m. ET kickoff that can be seen on ESPN2.

Pittsburgh Panthers (4-5, 5-3-1 ATS) -3
Connecticut Huskies (3-6, 2-5-2 ATS) +3
Over/Under 43.5

It really seems like the Panthers should be one of the easiest plays on the board to make this week. They have covered three games in a row, they should have beaten the No. 4 team in the country last week, and they badly need this game if they are going to make it to a bowl game this year. Things aren’t always as easy as they seem though, and this is a bad spot for U-Pitt to find itself in.

The defense for the Huskies is going to make it very tough to get points on the board for the Panthers. This is a unit that, for as bad as its offense has played all year long, really does have some talent to it. The Huskies are also coming back home, where they have allowed 17, 17, 14, and 0 points this year, and that’s a great sign going forward for this one.

But what really gets me is the line movement. Remember that the Panthers have been favored all week, and they have 70% of the action on their side. However, this college football point spread has come down from 3.5 to 3 since the start of the week, which really sends up a red flag in my eyes. Now add into that the fact that a road favorite has never won nor covered a game in this series and the fact that the Huskies are 5-3 ATS all-time against Pittsburgh, and the makings are there for this one to end in an upset.

Pittsburgh @ Connecticut Tips: Connecticut Huskies +3

The Connecticut Huskies and the Syracuse Orange are going to square off in Week 8 of the college football betting campaign. Join us here at Cappers Info, as we make our predictions for football for what should be a great game on Friday.

Week 8 College Football Picks: Connecticut Huskies @ Syracuse Orange
Date: Friday, October 19th, 8:00 ET
Location: Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY
CFB Betting Odds: Syracuse -4
Connecticut vs. Syracuse Live TV: ESPN

This is an ugly game for sure, and it isn’t one that we are going to be happy to watch for sure. Syracuse’s offense has fallen off the face of the earth over the course of the last three weeks, scoring a total of just 39 points after putting 41 on the board in Week 1 and at least 28 in each of the next two. Connecticut’s offense is one of the worst in the entire country, though we at least still know that RB Lyle McCombs could go off for a big time game at a moment’s notice. The Orange just haven’t played all that well this year, and they might find themselves on the wrong side of this one if QB Ryan Nassib can’t get going. Nassib has averaged over 100 passing yards less per game over the course of his most recent three games as opposed to his first three games. In the end, the important stat to follow is the fact that UConn is 5-0 SU and ATS in this series dating back to 2007, and save for last year’s seven-point win, all of those victories have come by at least 17 points.

Connecticut @ Syracuse Pick: Connecticut +4
Connecticut @ Syracuse Score Prediction: Connecticut 24 – Syracuse 14

And then there were two… The Butler Bulldogs and the Connecticut Huskies are the only two teams that are left standing here in the NCAA Tournament, and after 66 previous games and eliminations, only one team can be left standing at the end of the day. On Monday, the 2011 National Championship will be award, and we here at Cappers Info have all of our March Madness final picks available for the big game.

Matchup: #3 Connecticut Huskies vs. #8 Butler Bulldogs
Date: Monday, April 4th, 9:20 ET
Location: Final Four, Houston, TX
NCAA Basketball Odds: Connecticut -3.5
Over/Under 129.5

The road to the Final Four has been long and arduous for both the Huskies and the Bulldogs. Butler needed to survive a pair of de facto road games against the Cleveland State Vikings and Wisconsin Milwaukee Panthers, both of which could have easily been NCAA Tournament teams this season. After that, they eliminated the Old Dominion Monarchs, Pittsburgh Panthers, Wisconsin Badgers, Florida Gators, and VCU Rams to reach the finale. Connecticut was never really in serious doubt about making the NCAA Tournament, but it definitely could have been in a lot worse spot in terms of its seeding had it not gone on that great run in the Big East Tournament. Save the win against the DePaul Blue Demons in Round 1 at Madison Square Garden, the Huskies have beaten nine straight NCAA Tournament teams. Five of these games, they were underdogs, and they have shined through with flying colors in all of them. The Bucknell Bison, Cincinnati Bearcats, San Diego State Aztecs, Arizona Wildcats, and Kentucky Wildcats have all fallen to the mighty Huskies in this tournament.

Connecticut Huskies Notes: It’s getting pretty clear that Head Coach Jim Calhoun is making his bench awfully short in this one. There are only six players that played more than nine minutes in the 56-55 escape from the Wildcats on Saturday, and the big time stats were once again put up by the big time players. Kemba Walker led the way with a very complete effort, as he scored 18 points to lead all scorers on the night. He also had seven assists and six boards. Jeremy Lamb continued his shot scoring streak with 12 points, marking his 10th straight game with at least 11 points after averaging below double digits in scoring per game coming in. Alex Oriakhi had eight points and 10 crucial boards, while Roscoe Smith stepped up and had six points and eight rebounds. The team did shoot 46.9 percent, but Calhoun cannot be happy that his team allowed 13 more shots than it took. The good news though, was that it did have 16 assists on 23 made baskets, a sign that the ball was really moving around for UConn.

Butler Bulldogs Notes: It’s truly amazing that Butler is back in this one, and perhaps the Bulldogs are just a tad fortunate to be in this spot. VCU ended up going cold down the stretch, which allowed them to come up with this 70-62 win to advance to the National Championship Game. Give the perimeter players a lot of credit, as holding VCU to just 8-of-22 from downtown was its worst percentage of the tournament. Matt Howard and company really didn’t do a great job keeping Jamie Skeen off of the scoreboard, but he the scrapper in the middle had himself a heck of a game. He only shot 3-of-10 from the floor, including 0-for-5 from downtown, but he also had 11 free throws made on 12 attempts to total 17 points with eight boards. Shelvin Mack knocked down three triples, but he continued his struggles from the line, going just 3-of-6 in very uncharacteristic form. Mack scored 24 points and had six rebounds. The impressive part of this game for the Bulldogs was the fact that they absolutely dominated the glass, proving that they can really play like a big conference team. The Dogs had 46 total boards, 15 of which were on the offensive glass. They had a +16 margin on the boards when the day was said and done.

The Final Word: This is the final word for the whole season, and with as screwy as this entire season has been, why shouldn’t we expect to see the upset once again. Butler has proven that it is good enough to beat virtually every big time school that it has run across this season, and it has some big time unfinished business to contend with. The Bulldogs will get the job done this year, and Head Coach Brad Stevens and company will arguably become the least likely champion in the history of the sport.

March Madness Free Pick: Butler Bulldogs +3.5
