The Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions are going to square off in Week 17 of the NFL betting campaign. Join us here at Cappers Info, as we make our predictions for football for what should be a great game on Sunday.

Week 17 NFL Picks: Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
Date: Sunday, December 30th, 1:00 ET
Location: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
Week 17 Betting Odds: Chicago -3
Bears vs. Lions Live TV: FOX

This is a weird game for sure, as the public is all over the place. The Bears are getting 65% of the betting action on their side, but if you listen to the talking heads all over the country, this is a game that the Lions seem destined to win, just because the Bears can’t win the big time game. Alas, the history in this series is insanely in favor of the Monsters of the Midway for a reason. Chicago is clearly and definitively the better of these two teams. All of this talk about all of the milestones in Detroit is great, but Head Coach Lovie Smith and the gang really could care less if WR Calvin Johnson goes off for another 200+ yard game and if QB Matthew Stafford gets to 5,000 passing yards for the year or not. It’s all about the ‘W’ in the 1:00 hour, and it’s all about rooting for the Packers (as much as that must hurt Bears fans to say) in the 4:00 hour. Detroit has lost seven games in a row for a reason, and it is 1-6 ATS in those games for a reason as well. Tis the season to fade the Lions.

Bears @ Lions Pick: Chicago Bears -3
Bears @ Lions Score Prediction: Chicago 27 – Detroit 17

December 30th, 2012 By Jack Wilshire

Of all of the games on the Sunday 12/30 Week 17 NFL betting schedule, one of my favorite is the clash between the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions. Join me for my tips for this 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff that can be seen on FOX.

Chicago Bears (9-6, 7-8 ATS) -3
Detroit Lions (4-11, 5-10 ATS) +3
Over/Under 45

Predictability has gotten the Lions in trouble over the course of the last several games. They have tried their best to get the ball to WR Calvin Johnson so that he can break the record for the most receiving yards in a single season. He has the record, but now QB Matthew Stafford wants to make him the league’s first 2,000-yard receiver, and he himself wants to get to 5,000 yards for the second straight campaign. The end result in the last three games has been an average of just 16.0 points per game scored, most of which have come against teams that just don’t have the greatest defenses on the face of the earth.

The Bears of course, have no offense to work with whatsoever. QB Jay Cutler still stinks, and the team has scored an average of just 16.1 points per game over the course of the last seven games, in which the team has gone just 2-5 SU and ATS.

It’s just not a pretty spot for ‘over’ bettors to be in. So many will just blindly think that this will be a showcase between Megatron and WR Brandon Marshall, and they might be right. But even still, if both go off for a combined 400 yards and two TDs, there still has to be some points scored from somewhere else. There’s a reason that there were just 20 total points scored when these two teams met two months ago, and I expect to see a game that doesn’t feature a whole heck of a lot more than that on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale for these NFC North rivals.

Bears @ Lions Tips: Under 45

NFL betting fans are running to their online sportsbooks to place their Atlanta Falcons vs. Detroit Lions bets and predictions, and here at Cappers Info, we are making our Saturday football picks for this encounter.

Week 16 Football Picks: Atlanta Falcons @ Detroit Lions
Date: Saturday, December 22nd, 8:30 ET
Location: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
NFL Betting Lines: Atlanta -3.5
Falcons vs. Lions On TV: ESPN

Tricky oddsmakers! They have set a line in this one that is as square as could be, and we are going to take the utmost advantage of it. The truth of the matter is that the Lions would have probably been +1 or +2 had they beaten the Arizona Cardinals last week. Instead, what happened is that they came out, laid an ugly egg, and now, everyone thinks that they have given up. The Falcons played the game of their lives last week against the Giants, and they are just not going to have the energy for this one. Remember that over the course of their last three road games, the Dirty Birds were clipped by both the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints, and they should have lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to boot. That’s just not good enough for us. WR Calvin Johnson will have a big time day, and the offense for Atlanta will end up taking the night off, and in the end, the Lions get back on track and finally beat one of these top level teams after losing to three in a row at home by a combined nine points.

Falcons @ Lions Pick: Detroit Lions +3.5
Atlanta @ Detroit Score Prediction: Detroit 27 – Atlanta 17

Making sports betting picks is one of my specialties, and today at Cappers Info, I’m making my Saturday Football Tipster pick based upon the football trends and NFL odds for the Atlanta Falcons vs. Detroit Lions game on Saturday, December 22nd at Ford Field at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Atlanta Falcons (12-2, 8-5-1 ATS) -3.5
Detroit Lions (4-10, 5-9 ATS) +3.5
Over/Under 50.5

What a predictable matchup this is going to ultimately be! I just know that the Lions have nothing left to play for this year, and anything less than literally 20 targets headed to WR Calvin Johnson would shock the heck out of me. Normally speaking, I’d be one to say that a team that has a single-minded game plan is in a lot of trouble, but with the all-time single season receiving record just 181 yards away, there is no doubt that this could ultimately be the answer to getting just a slew of points up on the board.

The Lions have no defense whatsoever. Don’t believe me? They just gave up 38 freaking points to the Arizona Cardinals. This unit has given up on the campaign, and I have zero doubt that the dead minimum the Falcons put up on the board in this one is 27points. (And it wouldn’t shock me if it were 47 points.) Atlanta pitched a shutout last week, but it gave up 30 the week before to the Carolina Panthers.

In the end, this is simple math for me. The Falcons need to score 30. The Lions need to score 21. Just as we saw the Atlanta defense bounce back last week after getting embarrassed by the Panthers to shut out the New York Giants, we will see the offense for the Lions bounce back after getting embarrassed by the Cardinals to put a respectable number of points on the board. It’s just really difficult, in spite of the relatively high number, to not see this one getting there when push comes to shove.

Falcons @ Lions Tips: Over 50.5

Week 15 NFL Picks: Detroit Lions @ Arizona Cardinals
Date: Sunday, December 16th, 4:05 ET
Location: University of Phoenix Stadium, Phoenix, AZ
NFL Betting Odds: Detroit -6.5
Lions vs. Cardinals On TV: FOX

The Lions are laying a touchdown in this game on the road, and that isn’t something that happens all the time. They really aren’t good enough to be laying this type of spread under any sort of circumstance, even playing against a team that just lost 58-0 to the Seattle Seahawks. What we have to remember though, is that Detroit has lost five straight games and has failed to cover four of the five. There is a point in this season that the team is just going to give up, and we might be at that point. Arizona has clearly already mailed it in, but if you take out that loss to the Seahawks last year, the team has only lost by 1, 14, and 4 over the course of the previous four games. Also remember that four of these last five have been on the road, and the team is going to be back at home in this one. The Cardinals have a defense that is good enough to get the job done, and this unit will prove to pull the upset on Sunday.

Detroit Lions @ Arizona Cardinals Pick: Arizona Cardinals +6.5
Detroit Lions @ Arizona Cardinals Score Prediction: Arizona 24 – Detroit 23

Making sports betting picks is one of my specialties, and today at Cappers Info, I’m making my Sunday Football Tipster pick based upon the football trends and NFL odds for the Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers game on Sunday, December 9th at Lambeau Field at 8:20 p.m. ET.

Detroit Lions (4-8, 5-7 ATS) +7
Green Bay Packers (8-4, 6-6 ATS) -7
Over/Under 48.5

The Packers and the Lions are two teams that have the potential to put on a show offensively, and we have seen it in games between these two before. For example, there were 86 points scored last year on New Year’s Day when these clubs met last year, but if you take that game out, there were games that featured 10 points, 42 points, and 44 points. This one isn’t going to be an exception to that low scoring rule, I would think.

I’m just not buying into the Lions right now at all offensively. They’re a one-man show with WR Calvin Johnson, but even if he goes off for 10 catches, 250 yards, and 3 scores, there’s still only 21 points on the board to show for all of that work. The Packers too, have been down offensively of late as well. They haven’t exceeded more than 24 points in three straight games, and I really don’t think they’re going to be able to do that again in this one.

Three out of four and five out of seven have failed to reach the ‘total’ in this series, and the snow and the wind isn’t going to help matters any. It’s going to be tough to move the ball up and down the field, and though there will be some big plays, there just won’t be enough consistent plays to put this many points on the board.

Lions @ Packers Tips: Under 48.5

Location: Lambeau Field, Green Bay, WI
NFL Betting Lines: Green Bay -7
Lions vs. Packers On TV: NBC

These two NFC North rivals are going to be squaring off on Football Night in America this week, and there is a clear divide between these two teams. The Packers might be the squarer of these two teams, but they’re going to win this one going away by more than a touchdown. QB Aaron Rodgers should have himself a great game playing against a team that he has normally terrorized, and he should make up for a bad effort when he threw for just 236 yards and two TDs when these two teams met a few weeks ago. Detroit has been a tough luck team over the course of the last few weeks, losing all three games, and it has a real chance to just fall on its face. QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson can only do so much, and they are going to be on the short side of the stick in this one.

Lions @ Packers Pick: Green Bay Packers -7
Detroit @ Green Bay Score Prediction: Green Bay 35 – Detroit 20

Week 13 NFL Picks: Indianapolis Colts @ Detroit Lions
Date: Sunday, December 2nd, 1:00 ET
Location: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
NFL Betting Odds: Detroit -6
Colts vs. Lions On TV: CBS

The Lions and the Colts are teams that are heading in opposite directions right now. Detroit is on the wrong side of the playoffs at the moment, and the team is going to need to go on a tear just to get into the postseason. Indianapolis is on the right side of postseason, and the team is clearly doing some things right. Here’s the issue that we’ve got with the Colts in this one: They really haven’t beaten anyone lately. If they were to get into the playoffs, they would be the worst of all of the teams in the field. If that turns out to be the case and they do get into the field in the AFC, they’re going to be in for a world of hurt against some of the best teams, as we saw was the case when they went to Foxboro and got rammed by the Patriots. We really think that Detroit is going to win this game and win it handily, putting QB Andrew Luck and his mates back in their places.

Indianapolis Colts @ Detroit Lions Pick: Detroit Lions -6
Indianapolis Colts @ Detroit Lions Score Prediction: Detroit 35 – Indianapolis 21

BovadaThe Houston Texans and the Detroit Lions are set to kick off their Week 12 NFL betting clash on Thursday 11/22, and I’m set to make my football pick for the affair at Ford Field. Kickoff is set for 1:00 ET, and I’ve got the perfect NFL pick for this outstanding duel on the gridiron.

Houston Texans (9-1, 7-3 ATS) -3
Detroit Lions (4-6, 4-6 ATS) +3
Over/Under 49

An interesting game for sure to start off Thanksgiving Day, and I have to think that this one is going to fail to get to the number when push comes to shove. Both of these games in the past in this series have gotten past the ‘total’, but this is a much different game between two teams that are a heck of a lot different since their last meeting in 2008.

The Texans defense has to be ready to come out for blood this week after allowing almost 500 yards and 37 points to the Jacksonville Jaguars. This unit threw the ball 55 times over the course of the game and ran it just 35 as well, and that has to get back to a more run-first scheme this week as well. Meanwhile, Detroit’s offense actually doesn’t have a man that has more than five touchdowns on the season, so in spite of the fact that the club is still one of the better yardage gaining teams in the league, it just isn’t figuring out how to put the ball in the end zone consistently.

Here’s the money stat, though. The Texans have allowed 93 points this year in a game against Jacksonville, a game against Green Bay, and a quarter against Denver. In all other instances this year, they have allowed just a total of 83 points. That’s a YO! stat if I’ve ever heard one! Expect to see the Lions held into the teens in scoring, and if that turns out to be the case, and this one should fail to reach the number. A teaser isn’t a bad option either.

Texans @ Lions Tips: Under 49 & 6.5-point Teaser: Houston +3.5 w/ Under 55.5

NFL betting fans are running to their online sportsbooks to place their Houston Texans vs. Detroit Lions bets and predictions, and here at Cappers Info, we are making our Thursday football picks for this encounter.

Week 12 Football Picks: Houston Texans @ Detroit Lions
Date: Thursday, November 22nd, 12:30 ET
Location: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
NFL Betting Lines: Houston -3
Texans vs. Lions On TV: CBS

It’s definitely not a bad time for the Texans to be playing their first ever Thanksgiving Day game. They are on the road for the first of three straight games, the last of which is the premier Monday Night Football game of the year against the New England Patriots. This might seem like an iffy spot, but if the game is lost, it isn’t the end of the world, knowing that there is a bit of a cushion there from the rest of the pack in the AFC. Besides that, the Lions are slumping, having lost two in a row both SU and ATS, and there is a real chance that they are going to come out flat once again on Thanksgiving, seemingly an annual tradition at this point. You can bet that DC Wade Phillips is going to be spending some extra time with his defense at defending the deep ball, and DE JJ Watt will be able to get into the face of QB Matt Stafford if he does try to take a shot down the field. If that stays the case, Detroit will have a hard time scoring. And as always with Detroit, if the team can’t score, the team can’t win.

Texans @ Lions Pick: Houston Texans -3
Houston @ Detroit Score Prediction: Houston 28 – Detroit 16

The 2012 NFL schedule is back, and here at Cappers Info, we’ll be looking at some of the best games on the docket each and every week, as we try to make the most money possible off of the Week 11 odds for the NFL. Join us on Sunday, as we make our Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions free picks and predictions for what should be a great clash on the gridiron.

Week 11 NFL Picks: Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions
Date: Sunday, November 18th, 1:00 ET
Location: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
NFL Betting Odds: Green Bay -3
Packers @ Lions On TV: FOX

The Packers are the heavy favorites in this one, not just in the eyes of the oddsmakers, but in the eyes of the general public as well. Last year, the defense for the Lions had a bit of success when these two teams met on Thanksgiving Day in this venue, and that might carry over into this one. It’s a must have game for Detroit, knowing that it has the Texans coming to town in just five days. QB Matt Stafford has started to look a little bit better as well over the course of the last few weeks, and we would expect that he is going to have a massive game against a Green Bay secondary that, at times has looked suspect. This could be a shootout to say the least, and that really could play into the hands of the Lions. Look for WR Calvin Johnson to have a big one in this one, and we think that there is a real chance for an upset.

Packers @ Lions Pick: Detroit Lions +3
Packers @ Lions Score Prediction: Detroit 34 – Green Bay 28
