May 7th MLB Picks: Detroit Tigers @ Washington Nationals
Date: Tuesday, March 7th, 7:05 ET
Location: Nationals Park, Washington DC
Tigers vs. Nationals On TV: MLB Network

Bookmaker MLB

MLB Lines & Probable Starting Pitchers
Detroit Tigers (Anibal Sanchez) +100
Washington Nationals (Jordan Zimmerman) -110
Total: 7

This is a heck of a pitching matchup in this game, as we know that both RHP Anibal Sanchez and RHP Jordan Zimmerman can both put together great outings. Both of these men have sub-2.00 ERAs at this point, but we still aren’t all that sure offense isn’t what we should be backing. Do remember that Detroit is averaging 5.47 runs per game this year, the best such mark in the game, and the team is batting .285 this year. Yes, the Nationals rank 27th in the MLB in total offense at just 3.53 runs per game, and they also are playing in a pitcher’s park, but we have to think that their offense is going to pick it up at some point in the near future. Washington has scored 11 runs in its last two games, while Detroit has put up 26 runs in its last two games. That’s more than good enough for us. It isn’t going to take a whole heck of a lot to get this game up to the ‘total’, as both teams would have to score just three runs to get this one to at least be a push. However, we think that both starting pitchers are going to be knocked around just a bit, at least in relation to what they are used to conceding in this game to push this one past the ‘total’ by a relatively comfortable margin.

Detroit Tigers @ Washington Nationals Pick: Over 7
Detroit Tigers @ Washington Nationals Score Prediction: Nationals 6 – Tigers 4

The 2013 MLB betting season is off and running here at Cappers Info, and we are set to make more of our patented MLB picks for one of our favorite times of year. On Sunday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers will be led onto the field by Hyun-Jin Ryu, as they play host to the San Francisco Giants, who will be countering with Matt Cain. The first pitch from AT&T Park is set to be thrown out at 8:05 p.m. ET

Sunday Baseball Picks: Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Francisco Giants
Date: Sunday, May 5th, 8:05 ET
Location: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
Dodgers vs. Giants On TV: ESPN

BetDSI

MLB Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
Los Angeles Dodgers (Hyun-Jin Ryu) -135
San Francisco Giants (Matt Cain) +125
Total: 6.5

It’s a bit shocking to us to see how the Dodgers are actually the road favorites in this game by a relatively comfortable margin. The oddsmakers clearly don’t have all that much confidence in RHP Matt Cain. Granted, we know that Cain has been atrocious this season, posting an ERA of nearly 6.50, and he has allowed nine home runs in his last four starts combined. To put that in comparison, the righty allowed nine home runs in his entire 2011 season. That’s why RHP Hyun-Jin Ryu is the favorite in this one. Ryu has been remarkable over the course of the first six starts of his career, and he is unlucky to have a single loss to his credit. The righty has arguably been the best rookie in the league this year, and there is no doubt that he is going to be in the running on the Rookie of the Year voting this year. Here’s the issue that we have with Ryu: He has never faced the same team twice. We think that asking these two teams to be held under three runs apiece is going to be a difficult challenge. Go with the ‘over’ on Sunday Night Baseball.

Dodgers @ Giants Pick 5/5/13: Over 6.5

MLB Betting Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
St. Louis Cardinals (Adam Wainwright) -121
Milwaukee Brewers (Yovani Gallardo) +111
Total: 7.5

There’s a good pitching matchup here in Beer Country on Saturday afternoon, as the ace for both the Brewers and the Cardinals will be on the bump against each other. RHP Adam Wainwright has really done well this season, and he has only allowed a total of eight runs over the course of his last five starts. In that mix includes a complete game shutout against none other than these Brewers. What is really getting Wainwright victories is his efficiency, and he is starting to look like the man that went 39-19 over the course of the 2009 and 2010 seasons combined. Wainwright hasn’t averaged more than 14.4 pitches per inning in each of his last five starts, and he only has three walks against 43 strikeouts for the season. Of course, if there is a man that has a chance to take care of Wainwright, RHP Yovani Gallardo would be the man to do the job. Gallardo has a 4.25 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP this year, but he has been a heck of a lot better in his last three starts than he was in his first three. We are concerned that Gallardo isn’t the same man that has won at least 14 games and has gone +7 in the win/loss column in each of the last three years, but we have to remember that he is still just 27 years old and clearly shouldn’t be in a position where he has lost it. Had these two met last season, Gallardo would have been the favorite. We think that he should be in this one as well.

Cardinals @ Brewers Pick: Milwaukee Brewers +111
Cardinals @ Brewers Score Prediction: Brewers 4 – Cardinals 2

May 4th MLB Picks: Baltimore Orioles @ Los Angeles Angels

Orioles vs. Angels On TV: FOX

Bookmaker MLB

MLB Lines & Probable Starting Pitchers
Baltimore Orioles (Freddy Garcia) +125
Los Angeles Angels (Tommy Hanson) -135
Total: 9

The pitching matchup for this game really isn’t all that special, and the likelihood is there that there could be a heck of a lot of runs in this game. RHP Freddy Garcia is going to be making his first start for the Orioles after throwing just 107.1 innings last year for the New York Yankees and posting a 5.20 GAA. The truth of the matter is that we don’t expect Garcia to be around all that long in this game, knowing that he has been nothing more than a lousy pitcher for the most part for the last several seasons. RHP Tommy Hanson hasn’t done all that much either. He has only allowed two runs in his last 12 innings of work, which is solid work, but the way that the team is going right now, we just don’t trust that Hanson or the LA bullpen are going to be able to hold up. The Angels had scored at least five runs in three straight games before getting crushed by RHP Chris Tillman on Thursday night, and we expect that they are going to be able to get back to their scoring ways in this one. We have to think that there are going to be at least 10 runs scored in this game when push comes to shove.

Baltimore Orioles @ Los Angeles Angels Pick: Over 9
Baltimore Orioles @ Los Angeles Angels Score Prediction: Angels 6 – Orioles 5

The 2013 MLB betting season is off and running here at Cappers Info, and we are set to make more of our patented MLB picks for one of our favorite times of year. On Friday night, the Boston Red Sox will be led onto the field by Felix Doubront, as they play host to the Texas Rangers, who will be countering with Derek Holland. The first pitch from Rangers Ballpark is set to be thrown out at 8:05 p.m. ET

Friday Baseball Picks: Boston Red Sox @ Texas Rangers
Date: Friday, May 3rd, 8:05 ET
Location: Rangers Ballpark, Arlington, TX
Red Sox vs. Rangers On TV: MLB Network

BetDSI

MLB Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
Boston Red Sox (Felix Doubront) +112
Texas Rangers (Derek Holland) -120
Total: 9.5

If there is such a thing as a bad scheduling spot for a team in baseball, this is it. It’s really unfair for the Red Sox to have had to play a game last night at the Rogers Centre, only to have to turn around and come back to Arlington to play the Rangers roughly 16 hours after getting on the airplane to get into town. To make matters worse, the pitching matchup really isn’t all that friendly either. Simply put, LHP Derek Holland is due for some good fortune, while the baseball gods are eventually going to stop watching over LHP Felix Doubront. We do love that Doubront has struck out 50 batters in his last six starts combined, but there is a point that a man that hasn’t pitched deeper than 6.2 innings all season long is going to get punished. Boston is averaging 7.5 runs per game of support for its lefty, and that is all going to come crashing down against Holland. Texas’ southpaw has been unfortunate from the standpoint that he is just 1-2 in spite of the fact that he has a 3.38 ERA and a sub-1.00 WHIP in his 34.2 innings of work. The team hasn’t helped him all that much in terms of errors, and the bullpen has been brutal as well. Holland will get it all to go his way on Friday night though, as he leads the Rangers to victory against the Bo Sox.

Red Sox @ Rangers Pick 5/3/13: Texas Rangers -120
Red Sox @ Rangers Score Prediction: Texas 6 – Boston 3

The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves are going to square off as a part of the 2013 MLB betting campaign. Join us here at Cappers Info, as we make our May 1st baseball predictions for what should be a great game on Wednesday.

Free MLB Picks: Washington Nationals @ Atlanta Braves

Nationals vs. Braves Live TV: ESPN

Bovada Sportsbook

MLB Betting Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
Washington Nationals (Jordan Zimmerman) -102
Atlanta Braves (Paul Maholm) -108
Total: 7

There is something that just isn’t right at the moment about the Nationals. They had themselves a very lackluster first month of the season, finishing out at 13-14 and 4.5 games behind the Braves for first place in the NL East. The offense has plated just five runs in its last three games, and it really has squandered a number of very good pitching performances on the season with this poor offense. Now, it’s RHP Jordan Zimmerman’s turn to take the bump, and Manager Davey Johnson is hoping that his righty can lead the team to victory. Zimmerman, like most of the Washington starters, has pitched awfully well this year, and in spite of the fact that he is getting a minimal 4.4 runs per game of support, he is 4-1 with a 2.00 ERA. Teams can barely put the bat on the ball against Zimmerman with his 0.86 WHIP, and he has only allowed 24 hits in 36 innings of work this year. LHP Paul Maholm is going to oppose Zimmerman in this one, and we don’t think nearly as much of him. He is 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA, but his splits suggest that he is probably a bit more lucky than good. In his last outing, the southpaw allowed eight runs on 10 hits in just 3.2 innings of work against the Detroit Tigers, the worst start he has had all season long. We aren’t so sure which side to back in this game, but we know that we don’t suspect there to be a ton of runs scored. The Nats can’t hit the backside of a barn right now, and the Braves have themselves one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball that they have to go up against. We’ll take our chances with the ‘under’, even though the number is relatively low at just seven.

Nationals @ Braves Pick: Under 7
Nationals @ Braves Score Prediction: Nationals 3 – Braves 2

Bookmaker MLB

MLB Lines & Probable Starting Pitchers
Atlanta Braves (Mike Minor) +123
Detroit Tigers (Doug Fister) -135
Total: 8

The start of this series for the Braves and the Tigers have featured a ton of runs, and we see no reason whatsoever that that won’t be the case again on Sunday. The Tigers especially, scored 17 runs in the first two games in this one, and the Braves are bound to get some more hits over the course of this one with the ability of having a DH. We also really think that both RHP Doug Fister and LHP Mike Minor are due to get blown apart. Both have ERAs of 2.00 or lower thus far on the season, and there is just no way whatsoever that is going to last. Minor in particularly, has had ERAs in at least the 4.00s, if not the 5.00s for his entire career, and he has a history of walking far too many batters and giving up way, way too many home runs. There’s no way that all of this is going to keep up. Don’t be shocked if Minor gives up a couple of long balls to the Tigers, who are just starting to get together some big time innings as we have expected to see all season long. Fister should give up a few hits and runs as well, and as a result, we would be surprised if this wasn’t the third game in a row in this series in which there are at least 10 runs scored.

Atlanta Braves @ Detroit Tigers Pick: Over 8
Atlanta Braves @ Detroit Tigers Score Prediction: Tigers 7 – Braves 4

MLB Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
Toronto Blue Jays (R.A. Dickey) -103
New York Yankees (Phil Hughes) -107
Total: 9

The Blue Jays are still trying to get over this horrid start to their season, one that has seen them lose $871 for their bettors over the course of the first 24 games of the campaign coming into the weekend. Toronto had high hopes for the man that is expected to be on the bump on Sunday is RHP RA Dickey. We’ll say this about Dickey – He does have a 1.15 WHIP and a 2.45 ERA in his last three starts. Of course, for the season, the righty is only getting 2.0 runs of support, and that’s why he is just 2-3 thus far on the campaign. The good news for Dickey is that he is opposing RHP Phil Hughes on Sunday. Hughes has a 5.14 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP this year, and it is clear that he is going to be in a heck of a lot of trouble against this Toronto offense. Hughes has had no success whatsoever over the course of the last several seasons, and though he did go 16-13 last season, we know that was a product of more good fortune than good pitching. Go with Dickey and the Jays to outdo the Bronx Bombers on Sunday Afternoon Baseball on TBS.

On Saturday night, the Washington Nationals will be led onto the field by Gio Gonzalez, as they play host to the New York Mets, who will be countering with Jeremy Hefner. The first pitch from Citi Field is set to be thrown out at 3:05 p.m. ET

Saturday Baseball Picks: Washington Nationals @ New York Mets

BetDSI

MLB Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
Washington Nationals (Gio Gonzalez) -145
New York Mets (Jeremy Hefner) +135
Total: 7.5

Is this going to be the day that RHP Jeremy Hefner figures out how to keep the ball in the park? It really doesn’t seem all that likely considering the fact that he has allowed five dingers in just 10 innings of work. Perhaps the worst thing that happened for him is all of the bad weather that the Mets have faced lately, first in Minnesota, then in Colorado. Hefner had a pair of starts scratched, and as a result, he had to pitch out of the bullpen two days ago just to get some work in. It’s not a good situation to be in for the Mets for sure. Washington meanwhile, got over its three game sweep at the hands of the Atlanta Braves by taking two out of three from the Miami Marlins in South Beach, and now, they are throwing what should be one of their best arms in LHP Gio Gonzalez. Of course, we’re not 100% certain that Gonzalez is going to be able to get the job done either, knowing that he hasn’t thrown more than six innings in any of his starts this year. Needless to say, when we are in a situation when we aren’t all that confident in what is going on with pitchers, we play the ‘over’, especially when the number is this small. If the ball isn’t going to stay in Citi Field on this day, there should be at least 10 on the board by the time this one is said and done with.

Nationals @ Mets Pick 4/20/13: Over 7.5

This early in the season especially, we aren’t all that fond of the idea of betting ‘overs’, especially knowing that we are going to need 10 runs to call ourselves winners in this one. However, we have ourselves a bad situation brewing, particularly for the Halos. The Angels are going to be sending RHP Garrett Richards to the mound, and he was just lit up for four runs in 6.1 innings against the Houston Astros, who have one of the worst offenses in baseball. The Tigers average over five runs per game, and they hit .285 as a team. There’s no way that we see Richards coming up with a quality start here. Of course, we aren’t all that sure that RHP Rick Porcello is really ready to be back in the rotation either. Porcello was booted out of the rotation temporarily after two lousy starts to get out of the blocks this season. His one bullpen stint was a good one, as he allowed absolutely nothing in two frames and 19 pitches. However, we just don’t see how this is turning out to be a good thing in the end for either of these starters, and neither bullpen has exactly flexed its muscles yet this season. Asking for nine runs shouldn’t be all that unrealistic when push comes to shove.

Los Angeles Dodgers (Hyun-Jin Ryu) +115
Baltimore Orioles (Jason Hammel) -125
Total: 8.5

If you don’t know anything about LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu, you should learn a thing or two on Friday night about him. The Japanese star has come over to the other side of the pond and been fantastic this season. He has walked just three batters in as many games, and he has 20 strikeouts to show for his work. It’s incredibly tough to try to pick up on his breaking pitches, knowing that he has only allowed 19 total hits, just one of which was blasted out of the park thus far on the season. We’re a bit surprised that the Dodgers aren’t favored in this game, even taking into consideration the fact that they have to play by American League rules with the DH in play in this one. Baltimore is a good team, but we aren’t sure that it is such a great team. We know that the percentages are going to catch up with this team at some point, and eventually, the club will lose an extra innings game after winning 17 in a row that were level after nine innings. We don’t have a heck of a lot of confidence that RHP Jason Hammel is going to get the job done in this one, as we think that he is going to be outpitched and outpitched badly in what should be an easy win for the visitors.

MLB Lines & Probable Starting Pitchers
St. Louis Cardinals (Adam Wainwright) -104
Philadelphia Phillies (Cole Hamels) +100
Total: 7.5

The time is here once again, now that we are three weeks into the season, as to whether another big name pitcher has jumped the shark. LHP Cole Hamels is the one that we are questioning today for the Phillies, as he has been an atrocity thus far this year, posting a 7.56 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP in three starts. He’s 0-2, and the team is 0-3 in those games. He did pitch well in his last outing against the Miami Marlins, but most pitchers this year are going to do well against a team that has a AAA lineup and Giancarlo Stanton. We think that this is a great price to get on Hamels and the Phils, though. We aren’t all that impressed with the 8-6 Cardinals at this point, and we think that the Phillies are a lot closer to having the skill of a .500 team than their 6-9 record suggests. This is a nice spot to come back home after a bad series in Cincinnati and put up a ‘W’ in a bit of a ‘pick ‘em’ type of game. Hamels should be back on his game, and we aren’t all that convinced that RHP Adam Wainwright is all that he is cracked up to be for the Cards. He’s good, but he’s not good enough to go on the road against a man that won 17 games last season and be favored.

St. Louis Cardinals @ Philadelphia Phillies Pick: Philadelphia Phillies +100
St. Louis Cardinals @ Philadelphia Phillies Score Prediction: Phillies 5 – Cardinals 3
