5Dimes NCAA TournamentThis is one of those games that we have been looking forward to over the course of the last week ever since we saw the brackets come out. The Buckeyes are one of the best teams in the nation, and they are clearly on a great run right now, but they have to be a tiring bunch. Of course, we used that logic against the Iona Gaels, only to see the boys from the Metro Atlantic get blown out of the water, but what definitely did happen for the full 40 minutes is that OSU was made to run. That was all fine and dandy against an Iona team that had some spark and some spunk, but no real talent. Now comes an Iowa State team that has that same type of speed but a whole heck of a lot more talent. The Cyclones played tremendously aggressive defense against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, particularly in the first half when they forced 14 turnovers. Now, ISU is here to challenge against one of the big boys from the Big Ten. Remember that the Cyclones had the Kansas Jayhawks dead to rights in two of the three meetings this year. This is a team that has a whole heck of a lot of talent, and we think that it is going to have a real chance to pull off the upset and move onto the Sweet 16.

#10 Iowa State Cyclones +1.5
#7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish -1.5
Over/Under 141.5

Iowa State is a team that we think is a little bit underrated this year. We think that the Big XII was a sneakily good conference from top to (almost) bottom this season. The Cyclones can run, and when you’re tired of them running, they’re going to run even harder and faster at you. The Fighting Irish have an offense that is very suspect at times. G Jerian Granted, F Jack Cooley, and G Eric Atkins do the majority of the scoring, though G Scott Martin and G Pat Connaughton have come on strong at the end of the year. Here’s the problem, though. The Irish have been beaten up all year long in Big East play, and now, they have to come to Dayton to take on a hungry Iowa State team that is going to literally wear them out. This is a bad spot for the Irish to be in, as it is a team that they are playing that just doesn’t jive well with what they are trying to do. Cooley would have to have a massive game for us to believe that Notre Dame could win this one. It’s entirely possible, and it could turn out to be that way when push comes to shove, but in the end, we think that ISU is just going to be too strong and will eventually pull away in this game.

Iowa State vs. Notre Dame Free Pick: Iowa State Cyclones +1.5

BetGuardian

The semifinals of the Big XII Tournament is going to be flat out awesome. Iowa State is probably in the dance at this point, but if it were to get this win over the Jayhawks, there would be absolutely no doubt whatsoever. Kansas is still searching a No. 1 seed in the dance, and it looked the part when it blew the Texas Tech Red Raiders out of the water with a comprehensively dominant performance on both sides of the ball on Thursday. That being said, the Cyclones have given Kansas fits over the course of the last several weeks. ISU should have won the game that these two teams played back on February 25th in Ames, as it was a game that would have been in the win column if not for a tremendously controversial call in the dying seconds. Even the game that was played in Lawrence came right down to the wire as well, proof that this is a team that could give fits to anyone in the land. Is the third time the charm for the Cyclones? They have done well over the course of the last few games, winning three in a row as favorites of 3.5, 2, and 2 points. They’re the decided underdogs in this game, but we don’t think that it is justifiable for the Jayhawks to be laying this many. Take the points with the boys from Ames.

The real fun and games in the Big XII Tournament gets started on Thursday, and it gets started right away with a huge bubble battle between two teams that direly need another RPI Top 50 win on their resume. Both the Cyclones and the Sooners could be (and probably should be) okay without this win, but both will feel a heck of a lot better if they get to the Big XII Semifinals. What we know about the Cyclones is that they are going to run, run, and run some more. They averaged over 80 points per game this year, and they have six men in their rotation that have all averaged at least 9.4 points per game. You just don’t see that type of consistency on most teams across the country. Oklahoma stumbled in its finale, losing on the road to the TCU Horned Frogs in an epic fail of a game. The Sooners are a scary team to try to back away from home, knowing that there haven’t been many games of late outside of Norman that have gone well for them. Iowa State has the ability to turn up the pressure and run with the best of them, and there is no reason not to believe that this won’t be another one of those high flying games. Go with the Cyclones and the modest upset on Thursday.

Kansas has had some troubles this season playing against some of the most high flying teams in the Big XII, and we are definitely aware of that going into this one. The Jayhawks were beaten by the Oklahoma State Cowboys at home and nearly lost to them in Stillwater as well this past week. This Iowa State team also pushed the Jayhawks to OT at Phog Allen Fieldhouse as well. The defense really is locked in for Kansas right now, and that’s going to make the job of the high flyers from ISU very difficult. This would be a big game for the Cyclones though, as they need a win like this one to cement a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The team has won and covered three in a row, and it has scored at least 86 points in all four of those games. Head Coach Fred Hoiberg has a deep team at his disposal and can throw a ton of bodies at the Jayhawks. Six scored in double figures in the Phog, and if that turns out to be the case again, the Cyclones are going to get their signature victory. They’ll be storming the court in Ames when this one is over with.

The Iowa State Cyclones and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane are going to square off on the Liberty Bowl odds and betting lines. Join us here at Cappers Info, as we make our Liberty Bowl picks & predictions for football for what should be a great game on Monday.

Liberty Bowl Picks: Iowa State Cyclones vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane
Date: Monday, December 31st, 3:30 ET
Location: Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, Memphis, TN
Liberty Bowl Betting Odds: Iowa State -1
Iowa State vs. Tulsa Live TV: ESPN

This is the only bowl game that results in a rematch from a game that was played earlier in the season. In that game, we learned that the Golden Hurricane just didn’t have the offensive genius to keep it up for a full 60 minutes against the Cyclones. Granted, a heck of a lot has changed with both of these teams since the beginning of the season, but that first outing might be a good indicator of what we can expect in this one. QB Cody Green threw for just 198 yards with two TDs and two picks for Tulsa, while QB Steele Jantz really had his offense moving and picked up 441 total yards as a team for Iowa State. Since that point, Jantz has been benched in favor of first QB Jared Barnett, then QB Sam Richardson.

Bovada Sportsbook

The Cyclones got a good look at the sometimes gimmicky offense that the Golden Hurricane are running, but Tulsa never did get a look at Richardson. That could be a key in this one, knowing that Richardson is a much better dual threat than Jantz was at the time. Richardson threw for 412 yards and seven TDs without tossing a pick, and he rushed for 187 yards and a TD in limited action at the end of the season. The Golden Hurricane also had troubles defending WR Josh Lenz, who led the team in receiving this year with 430 yards and six scores. Iowa State didn’t have a single rusher have more than 504 yards or a receiver with more than 430 yards, but the offense still mustered a relatively solid 25.2 points per game.

The real question here is whether Tulsa really has learned anything since going to Ames and getting rocked. The answer? We really don’t think so. Sure, winning Conference USA was great, but Tulsa’s only truly notable wins this year were against Fresno State (by 1 point), Rice (by 4 points), and UCF twice (by 2 and 6 points). Though the ground game for the Golden Hurricane is great, we think that having the extra time to prepare for this game has gone a long way for the Cyclones, and they’ll notch their second triumph of the year over an overrated Tulsa outfit.

Iowa State vs. Tulsa Pick: Iowa State Cyclones +1
Liberty Bowl Score Prediction: Iowa State 31 – Tulsa 21

December 31st, 2012 By Jack Wilshire

BovadaThe Iowa State Cyclones and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane are set to kick off the 2012 Liberty Bowl on Monday 12/31, and I’m set to make my Liberty Bowl pick for the affair at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis, TN. Kickoff is set for 3:30 ET, and I’ve got the perfect NCAA football pick for the Liberty Bowl.

2012 Liberty Bowl
Iowa State Cyclones (6-6, 5-6-1 ATS) -1
Tulsa Golden Hurricane (10-3, 7-5 ATS) +1
Over/Under 51

When these two teams met the first time around, the over/under was just 50.5 points, and the game got to 61. In that game, Tulsa only rushed for 160 yards as a team, and Iowa State was still using the lousy QB Steele Jantz under center. Why then, have the oddsmakers only moved this ‘total’ up a half point? It just doesn’t make all that much sense to me.

Iowa State’s offense is underrated with QB Sam Richardson calling the shots. He has a great football IQ, and he knows when to take off and run with the football. In the games that he quarterbacked this year, the Cyclones put up 75 points combined against the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Kansas Jayhawks. Granted, those two teams don’t have the greatest defenses in the world, but it’s not like Tulsa is a defensive world beater either. The Cyclones have also struggled defensively, allowing at least 21 points in nine straight games and averaging conceding 27.6 points per game in that stretch.

Huge 50% Sportsbook Bonus at Bovada Sportsbook

And then there is the crazy Golden Hurricane. This team can really fly around the field when given the chance to do so, as we saw in the final four games of the season when the team outgained its foes by an average of 217.0 yards per game. RB Alex Singleton rushed for 21 TDs, and each of RB Trey Watts, RB Ja’Terian Douglas, and RB Alex Singleton averaged calling the ball at least 10 times per game. The three each had at least 765 yards on the ground, and they combined for almost 2,600 yards in 13 games. It is clear that WR Keyarris Garrett could be a factor as well after he caught 64 passes for 826 yards and nine TDs. There are just too many offensive weapons here for the Golden Hurricane to be held under 28 points, and if that turns out to be the case, there is no reason to think that the Liberty Bowl won’t get past the ‘total’.

College football betting fans are running to their online sportsbooks to place their West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Iowa State bets and predictions, and here at Cappers Info, we are making our Friday football picks for this encounter.

Week 13 College Football Picks: West Virginia Mountaineers @ Iowa State Cyclones
Date: Friday, November 23rd, 3:30 ET
Location: Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, IA
CFB Betting Odds: West Virginia -1
West Virginia vs. Iowa State Live TV: ABC

We’ve already talked at length about how West Virginia has fallen from grace over the course of the last several weeks, but we think that the time is now that the club is going to get back on track. Last week’s loss against the Oklahoma Sooners was a close encounter, and it was a game that really could have, and perhaps should have been won. It’s not like this offense is failing to score against good teams. WR Stedman Bailey has logged back to back 200+ yard games, while QB Geno Smith is still averaging over 330 yards and 3.5 TDs game as well. His 7/1 TD/INT ratio is out of this world for a quarterback playing at this level in this conference. Iowa State ranks in the bottom third of most major offensive and defensive categories, and that’s not good against a team that is so proficient on the offensive side of the ball. After a month’s worth of failure, the Mountaineers are finally going to have something to be thankful for in the form of a bowl bid the day after Thanksgiving.

West Virginia @ Iowa State Pick: West Virginia Mountaineers -1
West Virginia @ Iowa State Score Prediction: West Virginia 38 – Iowa State 30

The 2012 college football season continues this week, and here at Cappers Info, we’ll be looking at some of the best games on the docket each and every week, as we try to make the most money possible off of the CFB odds for the week. Join us on Saturday, as we make our Oklahoma Sooners @ Iowa State Cyclones free picks and predictions for what should be a great clash on the gridiron.

Week 10 College Football Picks: Oklahoma Sooners @ Iowa State Cyclones
Date: Saturday, November 3rd, 12:00 ET
Location: Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, IA
CFB Betting Odds: Oklahoma -11
Oklahoma vs. Iowa State Live TV: ABC

The time is here to lock this one in, as we think that the Cyclones are going to have the ability to pull off the upset of the Sooners. QB Steele Jantz has to be playing with some confidence after throwing for five touchdowns last week against the Baylor Bears, and he is going to hope to break a horrid streak of luck against Oklahoma that includes 13 straight losses in this series, many of which haven’t been all that close. However, this is just as much a bet against the Sooners as it is anything else, as we think that they are going to hit a wall when they come to Ames on the heels of a draining 30-13 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at home. QB Landry Jones looks like he has mailed it in for the year, and the defense is definitely beatable, as Notre Dame figured out last week. Don’t be shocked if this proves to be the upset that effectively ends Oklahoma’s season.

Oklahoma @ Iowa State Pick: Iowa State +11
Oklahoma @ Iowa State Score Prediction: Iowa State 31 – Oklahoma 21

October 13th, 2012 By Jack Wilshire

Making sports betting picks is one of my specialties, and today, I’m making my Saturday Football Tipster pick based upon the football trends and Week 6 college football odds for the Kansas State Wildcats vs. Iowa State Cyclones game on Saturday, September 13th at 12:00 p.m. ET.

#6 Kansas State Wildcats (5-0, 4-1 ATS) -7.5
Iowa State Cyclones (4-1, 3-2 ATS) +7.5
Over/Under Off

There is going to be a lot to be made over the fact that this could be one of the many upsets in college football this week. And you know me; I like a great upset as much as anybody else does. But this one, I’ve seen plenty of to tell that this won’t be an upset, nor should it be a close game.

Kansas State is a team that is just really, really hard to stop offensively. QB Collin Klein and RB John Hubert have combined for 18 touchdowns this year on the ground between them, and that doesn’t include all of the scores that Klein has thrown for either. Iowa State is a great team that has a lot of grit, but in the end, it is a club that struggles holding onto the football. Nine interceptions on the year just isn’t going to cut it, no matter whether it is QB Steele Jantz or QB Jared Barnett taking snaps.

The Wildcats have covered six of their last seven on the road, and they have already proven that they have the grit to come on the road and beat a significantly more talented Oklahoma Sooners outfit. Kansas State has covered 20 of its last 27 games in the Big XII, and it is 10-4 ATS in its last 14 games following an SU victory. This pointspread just isn’t high enough to hold the Wildcats.

Kansas State @ Iowa State Tips: Kansas State -7.5

The first annual New Era Pinstripe Bowl was one of the best bowl games of the season last year, and it has to hope that it can get just as good of a game again this time around. We’re set to make our Pinstripe Bowl picks in the clash between the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Iowa State Cyclones.

Click Here For The Rest Of Our 2011-12 Bowl Game Previews

Pinstripe Bowl Matchup: Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. Iowa State Cyclones
Pinstripe Bowl Date/Time: Friday, December 30th, 3:20 ET
Pinstripe Bowl Location: New Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
Pinstripe Bowl Odds: Rutgers -1.5
Pinstripe Bowl Total: 44.5
Pinstripe Bowl TV Coverage: ESPN, ESPN3.com

Rutgers is going to be the de facto home team in this game, as the trip to the Bronx is a heck of a lot shorter from Piscataway than from Ames. On top of that, the Scarlet Knights were never really a program that enjoyed all that much success, and though the team did finish a game out of the Big East title race and had a disappointing end of the season, the fans will clearly flock in bunches across town from the Garden State for this one.

Iowa State is probably one of the most improbable bowl teams this year, as the team was a 5-4 squad going into its last three games of the season at home against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Kansas State Wildcats, and the Oklahoma Sooners. That being said, the Cyclones came up with the big game against Okie State to ruin its National Championship dreams, and the team really did play well with covers in each of its final two games as well. The defense was really the difference, and the team is playing a heck of a lot better right now than ranking No. 99 in the nation at 432.0 yards per game and No. 82 in scoring at 29.6 points per game.

Of course, Rutgers’ defense was the reason that this team won eight games this year. It sure wasn’t the offense, that’s for sure. The team ranked No. 100 offensively at 336.5 yards per game, and a lot of the problems came on the ground when there just weren’t any rushers that were able to get the job done on a consistent basis. The passing game wasn’t fantastic with QBs Chas Dodd and Gary Nova, but the play of WR Mohamed Sanu covered up a lot of problems. Sanu caught over 100 passes this year and had 1,144 receiving yards. We know that he has the talent to be able to throw, run, catch, and return, but he was really only used as a receiver this year. That doesn’t mean that he won’t in this game though, and we would expect Head Coach Greg Schiano to deploy him accordingly.

Neither one of these teams are fantastic offensively, but this is a tremendous opportunity for both offenses to push a game past the ‘total’. We pretty much will blindly take any ‘over’ in the bowl season that is in the low 40s, especially if we really knew that weather wasn’t going to be a huge factor. It’s not going to take a heck of a lot for that to happen, and we have to imagine that both teams are going to pull enough tricks out of their hat to be able to push this one into at least the high-40s and probably at least the 50s. Remember just how crazy last year’s Pinstripe Bowl was… and those two teams were really expected to put on the same type of defensive spectacle as these two.

Free Pinstripe Bowl Pick: Rutgers/Iowa State Over 44.5

Here at Cappers Info, we are taking a weekly look at the teams that could be ones ripe to pull off some major upsets! Check out the potentially ugly dogs that could come up and bite you in the butt in you aren't careful for the Week 12 of college football betting action!

Underdog Pick #1: Iowa State Cyclones (+350 at Diamond Sportsbook) vs. Missouri Tigers, Saturday, 7:00 ET: We know that QB Austen Arnaud is out of the lineup for the Cyclones, but you won't find a more bi-polar team in the country than them. Missouri has not fared well on the road of late, and though games at the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Texas Tech Red Raiders have a heck of a lot more glitz and glamour than this one does, there isn't a team in the country that is going to fight with more desperation than ISU. The Cyclones know that a win in this one will send them to a coveted bowl game, and they could care less where they end up going as long as they go somewhere. The last game played here in Ames resulted in a narrow 31-30 loss in overtime to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. If the Cyclones can stick within a point on Big Red, we'll back them to win at least one out of three times against the Tigers.

Underdog Pick #2: Idaho Vandals (+120 at Diamond Sportsbook) @ Utah State Aggies, Saturday 3:00 ET: We're talking about motivation and perception here in this WAC showdown that won't get all that much press. The oddsmakers have totally bashed the Vandals just as badly as the Boise State Broncos, Nevada Wolf Pack, and Fresno State Bulldogs have over their last three games. However, this Utah State team isn't nearly as strong as those other three. QB Nathan Enderle finally got a taste of a bowl game for the first time last year, and you can bet that he wants that taste once again. Idaho isn't nearly finished this season, though it needs to win each of its last three games. QB Diondre Borel knows that this is Utah State's last straw before it fails to become bowl eligible, but when push comes to shove, we know that the Aggies are already finished since they haven't faced the Boise State Broncos yet. Idaho is the better team in this duel, and it will prove it by walking out of Logan with a comfortable 'W' on Saturday afternoon.

Underdog Pick #3: Arkansas State Red Wolves (+450 at Diamond Sportsbook) @ Navy Midshipmen, Saturday, 3:30 ET: Don't kid yourself about how even these two teams really might be. The Middies are on a roll right now and have found their offensive stride, putting up some obscene numbers in recent weeks. However, Arkansas State knows that it can still make a bowl game for the first time in team history, and it is going to require winning this game and the finale at the Florida International Golden Panthers to get the job done. QB Ryan Aplin might give the Midshipmen fits with his arm, as he can tear apart any defense in the Sun Belt. However, the one thing that is going against us right now is the fact that the Red Wolves are coming off of a terrible loss to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. It's going to take a huge offensive effort, but we'll take our chances that the Sun Belt reps can at least hang around with the Naval Academy and make things very, very interesting down the stretch to make our +450 pay off.

Underdog Pick #4: Troy Trojans (+1100 at Diamond Sportsbook) @ South Carolina Gamecocks, Saturday, 12:20 ET: Sure, we know that this is an 11 to 1 shot, but think about how competitive the Trojans have been over the years against some of the best teams in the country. They certainly would have been a great moneyline investment at the Oklahoma State Cowboys earlier this year when no one knew just how good HC Mike Gundy's squad really was. Troy only lost that game 41-38. The Trojans have fallen upon hard times in the Sun Belt, and thanks to getting absolutely blown away by the Florida International Golden Panthers last week, perception is terrible on them. Perception is great about SC though, and we know that these guys just aren't as good as that perception is showing. Beating the Florida Gators in the Swamp to win the SEC East was great for the Gamecocks, but they are in a vintage trap game right here. It's a perfect sandwich spot between the win at UF and the duel against the Clemson Tigers coming up next week. Don't be shocked if the Trojans make this one interesting, and if that's the case, they're more than worth the flyer for a small bet at 11 to 1.
