The New Orleans Bowl is one of the great games of the season on the 2012 bowl schedule, and today, we are making our East Carolina vs. Louisiana Lafayette picks and predictions and trying to beat the New Orleans Bowl odds here at Cappers Info.

New Orleans Bowl Picks: East Carolina Pirates vs. Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns
Date: Saturday, December 22nd, 12:00 ET
Location: Mercedes Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA
New Orleans Bowl Betting Odds: Louisiana Lafayette -5
East Carolina vs. Louisiana Lafayette Live TV Coverage: ESPN

Last season, the Ragin’ Cajuns played in their first ever bowl game, and they walked away with a win over the San Diego State Aztecs in this very game. Now, they’re back in the Bayou in a de facto home game with an entirely new looking team, but the results really might ultimately be the same against an East Carolina team that feels like it was a weak 8-4 this year. Remember that the Pirates didn’t beat a single team this year that went on to play in a bowl game, as they merely beat up on all of the bad teams in Conference USA.

Even against this lousy schedule, the Pirates really didn’t have much in the way of star players. QB Shane Carden threw for 2,838 yards and 21 TDs against nine picks for the campaign, though he did add eight rushing TDs to that. WR Justin Hardy was great this year, accounting for 1,046 yards and 10 trips to the end zone, while RB Vintavious Cooper rushed for 1,035 yards and seven scores. If you take out these two men though, there wasn’t a man that had more than 354 receiving yards or more than 283 rushing yards.

There were some defensive problems this year, especially in the secondary for the Ragin’ Cajuns, but they made up for it with a surprisingly balanced offense that was able to get some points on the board against some of the best teams in the land. QB Terrance Broadway took over under center for QB Blaine Gautier for the final nine games of the campaign, and he made the most of it. He is an exciting player that threw for 2,526 yards and rushed for 661 yards, and he accounted for 24 total scores. RB Alonzo Harris and RB Effrem Reed are both capable of finding the end zone, and four different receivers had at least 500 yards through the air. The balance is just better for the Cajuns, and they have the home field advantage as well. They should win this one by at least a touchdown.

New Orleans Bowl Score Prediction: Louisiana Lafayette 37 – East Carolina 21

I’ve been studying the ‘total’ for the New Orleans Bowl odds for quite some time, and I’m ready to make my New Orleans Bowl picks for the clash between the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns and the East Carolina Pirates. The East Carolina vs. Louisiana Lafayette kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET at Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans, LA, and I’m going to show you which way to bet on college football to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

2012 New Orleans Bowl
East Carolina Pirates (8-4, 6-6 ATS) +5
LA Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns (8-4, 7-5 ATS) -5
Over/Under 66

The first thing that I notice when I look at these two teams is just how many points that these two have put up of late. The last time the Pirates were on the field, they combined for 124 points with the Marshall Thundering Herd. They also put up at least 41 points in four of their last six games. The Cajuns have been a more consistent offensive team all season long, but in their last three games, all of which were wins, they scored at least 31 and averaged 39.3 points per game.

Digging a bit deeper though, neither of these teams might be the best team to back for the ‘over’. East Carolina only averaged running 71.8 snaps per game. In comparison, the Oregon Ducks averaged 81.6 snaps per game, while the South Carolina Gamecocks averaged 66.4 snaps per game. ULL? Just 65.7 snaps per game. If these averages hold up, that means that there has to be a point basically every other snap to get this one to the ‘total’, and I just don’t see that happening with two teams that don’t have much in the way of star power and explosive play power.

There are a couple of men that I’m afraid of. QB Terrance Broadway averaged 8.2 yards per offensive snap that he took this year, while WR Justin Hardy on the other side of the field for the Pirates averaged 6.9 receptions per game and was one of the top receivers in Conference USA this year. However, ECU also only barely had a 1,000-yard rusher in RB Vintavious Murray, and that came in a situation where the backfield really wasn’t split. QB Shane Carder didn’t even throw for 3,000 yards, and a 21/9 TD/INT ratio doesn’t scare me that much. So if you ask me, these two teams have been more lucky than good when it comes to scoring points this year, and as a result, this one probably isn’t going to ultimately get into the low-60s, let alone the high-60s to beat me.

East Carolina vs. Louisiana Lafayette Picks & Tips: Under 66

Making sports betting picks is one of my specialties, and today, I’m making my Tuesday Football Tipster pick based upon the football trends and Week 9 college football odds for the Arkansas State Red Wolves vs. Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns game on Tuesday, September 23rd at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Arkansas State Red Wolves (4-3, 3-4 ATS) +4
Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns (4-2, 3-3 ATS) -4
Over/Under Off

Immediately when I saw the college football point spreads for this week come out, I knew that I was going to be backing the Ragin’ Cajuns, especially after the way that they played last week against the North Texas Mean Green.

ULL just couldn’t have played any worse for the most part than it did last Tuesday night, and the whole world saw it. The ground game couldn’t get anything going whatsoever. The passing attack looked flat. The defense was hit for big play after big play. And yet at the end, the Ragin’ Cajuns had a chance to win the game, and they really arguably should have. This week, there is a much tougher foe on the docket in Arkansas State, a team that has a fun video game-esque offense. That being said, QB Ryan Aplin just doesn’t look as comfortable right now as he did as a sophomore or a junior, and that has really been the Achilles heel this year for the Red Wolves.

Arkansas State won this game by nine last year when these teams met in Jonesboro, but it did mark the fourth straight cover in this series for the Ragin’ Cajuns. They have the better team, and they have the home field advantage. More importantly though, they have perception going against them, and that is usually a crucial key to making great college football bets.

Week 8 College Football Picks: Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns @ North Texas Mean Green
Date: Tuesday, October 16th, 9:00 ET
Location: Apogee Stadium, Denton, TX
CFB Betting Odds: Louisiana Lafayette -4
Louisiana Lafayette vs. North Texas Live TV: ESPN2

These midweek Sun Belt games are always fun to watch, as it gives us a chance to see some players that we don’t normally get a chance to see. These games usually feature some crazy offenses and some iffy defense, but there most certainly is some talent in the Sun Belt this year for sure. QB Terrance Broadway has taken over for the injured QB Blaine Gautier as the quarterback of the Cajuns, and he has done a nice job in the interim, guiding them to 89 points over the course of the last two games. This is an offense that ranks highly in the nation, coming in at 58th in the land in total offense at 411.2 yards per game and 25th in scoring at 38.0 points per game. North Texas can match up though, and we think that the five major skill players that it has, QB Derek Thompson, RB Brandin Byrd, RB Antoinne Jimmerson, WR Brelan Chancellor, and WR Ivan Delgado can get the job done against the Cajuns, especially here at Apogee Field, where the Mean Green have a solid home field advantage.

San Diego State has done a heck of a lot of playing in bowl games in or near Qualcomm Stadium in recent years, but now, the tables are going to be turned. The Aztecs have to travel several thousand miles across the country to take on a team in the Superdome that is from right up the road in Lafayette in the Ragin’ Cajuns. Still, for a team that is headed to the Big East next year, this is the type of roadie that it should get used to, and it is the type of game that should be won against a Sun Belt squad significantly more often than not.

That being said, the Ragin’ Cajuns have absolutely nothing to lose. They are expected to lose this game, though they have been expected to do poorly this year in general. ULL was able to go 8-4 and got one of the automatic bids for the Sun Belt to a bowl game, something that doesn’t always happen and certainly wasn’t expected to happen with the emergence of the Arkansas State Red Wolves and FIU Golden Panthers. This offense averaged 32.3 points per game this year under the direction of QB Blaine Gautier, who threw 20 TDs against five picks for the season and really kept the offense moving. Sure, the defense is a tad iffy, but we know that the ‘O’ can make up for any deficiencies of the ‘D’.

Again, San Diego State is a talented team. Many thought that this could be a BCS type of season with QB Ryan Lindley and RB Ronnie Hillman, but a schedule that included games against the Boise State Broncos, TCU Horned Frogs, and Michigan Wolverines was just too much to overcome. Lindley did only complete 52.5 percent of his passes this year, but it took him awhile to get used to a virtually entirely new set of receivers. Hillman was a beast this year, running for 1,656 yards and 20 TDs on the campaign.

We know that we sound like a broken record, but we still love the ‘overs’ in these bowl games. It’s not often that we try ‘over’ plays in three games on one day when there is a full slate of college football duels, let alone just the three games to choose from. However, we once again think that this is going to be a high scorer, and this will be the highest scorer of the bunch on the first day of the bowl season.

Matchup: Connecticut Huskies @ Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Date: Friday, October 8th, 7:30 ET
Location: Rutgers Stadium, Piscataway, NJ
Game Line: Connecticut -5.5
Over/Under 41.5

The 3-2 UConn Huskies and the 2-2 Rutgers Scarlet Knights both kick off their conference schedule Friday night in this battle between Big East opponents. Connecticut has had some major problems away from Storrs this year, getting trounced by 20 in the Big House against Michigan and falling to lowly Temple by two touchdowns in front of a sparse Philadelphia crowd. To stave off more road woes, they will need a big game from RB Jordan Todman. Todman is currently the fourth leading rusher in the nation with almost 160 yards per game on the ground and the Scarlet Knights will see a big dose of him on Friday night. Last week against Vanderbilt, Todman carried the ball on almost half the team’s plays, rushing for 190 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries. Rutgers comes into this game struggling mightily with their two wins being against FCS Norfolk State and Sun Belt bottom-dweller Florida International. Last week was perhaps the biggest indicator of HC Greg Schiano’s current struggles with the team, as they suffered a humiliating 17-14 defeat at home against Tulane despite being a 17 point favorite per the college football betting line. In the game, QB Tom Savage got hurt during the second quarter and was replaced by Chas Dodd at halftime. Schiano has been vague regarding the specifics of Savage’s injury and it remains a game-time decision whether Savage or Dodd will start against the Huskies. No matter who starts, the Scarlet Knights must get some productivity from their quarterback position rather than the benign play they have been getting for the first four games.

Matchup: #21 Oklahoma St Cowboys @ Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns
Date: Friday, October 8th, 9:00 ET
Location: Cajun Field, Lafayette, LA
Game Line: Oklahoma St -24
Over/Under 61.5

#21 Oklahoma St puts their undefeated record on the line Friday night when they travel to Cajun Country to take on 2-2 UL-Lafayette. Last Thursday night, the Cowboys played in one of the most exciting games of the young NCAA football betting season against Big XII South rival Texas A&M. Oklahoma St went from down 14 to up 14 to needing a last second FG off a Jerrod Johnson interception to beat the Aggies 38-35 and propel the Cowboys into the Top 25. The Cowboys struggled mightily on offense in the first half, but QB Brandon Weeden and RB Kendall Hunter both came out strong in the second half and finished the game with respectable numbers. Oklahoma St must improve on the defensive side of the ball though. The Aggies put up pinball numbers against the Cowboys’ defense, amassing 535 total yards on the night, and would have put up even better numbers if they didn’t turn the ball over five times. The Ragin’ Cajuns are currently 2-1 in conference play, with their only game against a BCS opponent so far this year being a 55-7 trouncing at the hands of 1-4 Georgia. Last week against North Texas, UL Lafayette got a magnificent stroke of luck when the Mean Green kicker missed a game-tying extra point with less than a minute to go to give the Ragin’ Cajuns a 28-27 victory. QB Chris Masson had a very good game last week, completing 18 of 32 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns while not turning the ball over in the victory. UL-Lafayette must get better at running the ball though, after carrying the ball 25 times for only 41 yards as a team against the Mean Green last Saturday.
