Sweet 16 Betting Lines
#3 Michigan State Spartans +2
#2 Duke Blue Devils -2
Over/Under 134.5

You’re not going to find all that many games which are this tight to call. It’s a tough game to handicap, knowing that both of these teams have their own ways of going about winning clashes like this one. We’re a bit afraid of the Spartans, though. They have a history of not coming up big in the biggest games of the year. They choked on the road against Michigan, they were beaten both in the Big Ten Tournament and at the end of the regular season against Ohio State, and they were swept by Indiana. Granted, there aren’t any huge, glaring losses in there, but this is the time of year that you have to win the games like these if you want to go to Atlanta for the Final Four. Though we are a bit concerned over Duke’s lack of games against Big Ten-type teams this season, we think that it will be able to cope. We think that F Ryan Kelly is due for a significantly better game than he has played to this point in the tourney, and if that happens, we’ll see the Blue Devils at their best. There’s a real question as to whether G Keith Appling is truly healthy or whether he has some problems with his shoulder that will hamper him for the second straight game. The bottom line: Though we could see this one going either way, we know that Duke at its best is better than Michigan State at its best. We’ll trust that Coach K gets the job done in this one.

March Madness free picks are one of our top specialties this time of year here at Cappers Info, and we have another great one on the NCAA Tournament schedule on Saturday night. The #6 Memphis Tigers and the #3 Michigan State Spartans will meet in the Round of 32 in the Midwest Region, and we’re breaking down the NCAA basketball betting lines for the clash.

Midwest Region Picks: #6 Memphis Tigers vs. #3 Michigan State Spartans
Date: Saturday, March 23rd, 2:45 PM
Midwest Region Location: Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI
Memphis vs. Michigan State Live on TV: CBS

Round of 32 Betting Lines
#6 Memphis Tigers +5.5
#3 Michigan State Spartans -5.5
Over/Under 130.5

The Spartans could have some real problems here against Memphis. When you look at the teams that have given Michigan State fits over the course of the year, most of the teams have had great half-court defenses and can trap as well. Memphis really did a nice job zeroing in on the bright guards for St. Mary’s on Thursday, and it could do the same thing here against the Spartans. G Joe Jackson had a great first game of the tourney, coming up with 14 points, seven boards, and seven assists against the Gaels. We know that he should have a great matchup with G Keith Appling in the backcourt. If MSU is going to capture this game, it is going to come in the paint. Memphis doesn’t have the bigs to get the job done if F Derrick Nix and F Adreian Payne have big time games. Nix scored 23 and pulled down 15 boards, nine of which came on the offensive glass on Thursday. In the end though, we really trust Head Coach Tom Izzo and the Spartans to win this game in spite of the fact that it is going to be a lot closer game than most would think. We want Memphis and the points, but we think that this is a game that somehow, Michigan State finds a way to win.

March Madness free picks are one of our top specialties this time of year here at Cappers Info, and we have another great one on the NCAA Tournament schedule on Thursday night. The #14 Valparaiso Crusaders and the #3 Michigan State Spartans will meet in the Round of 64 in the Midwest Region, and we’re breaking down the NCAA basketball betting lines for the clash.

Midwest Region Picks: #14 Valparaiso Crusaders vs. #3 Michigan State Spartans
Date: Thursday, March 21st, 12:15 ET
Midwest Region Location: Palace at Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI
Valparaiso vs. Michigan State Live on TV: CBS

Round of 64 Betting Lines
#14 Valparaiso Crusaders +10
#3 Michigan State Spartans -10
Over/Under 127

The Spartans typically have a great time here in the NCAA Tournament, and we think that Thursday is going to be no exception to that fact. G Keith Appling really started to play some better ball over the course of the last few games of the season, making up for the few games when he really started to slide at the end of the regular season. As long as he stays aggressive, this should be a game where talent really rules the day. Many think that Valpo can pull off the upset, and perhaps against a different team in a different venue it would have stood a chance. As it is though, the best shot that the Crusaders are going to have in this game is if F Ryan Broekhoff can force C Adreian Payne to come to the outside to defend long shots. Broekhoff has to hit them though, or the team has to get on the offensive glass. Otherwise, it’s going to be a lot of one and done for Valparaiso, something that it won’t be able to live down. Head Coach Tom Izzo is one of the best coaches in the land in terms of preparing his teams to do battle regardless what the level of competition is that the Spartans are playing. It isn’t often that a bad team sneaks up on Michigan State. Remember that Sparty went undefeated this year against teams that didn’t make the NCAA Tournament, and it blew out most of those outfits. This will be no exception.

Valparaiso vs. Michigan State Free Pick: Michigan State Spartans -10
Valparaiso vs. Michigan State Predictions: Michigan State 75 – Valparaiso 62

In the regular season, the Buckeyes were able to take down Sparty thanks to a remarkable defensive effort. They forced 14 turnovers and allowed the Spartans to shoot just 45.7 percent from the floor. The second half was the key, as OSU had to fight back from a six-point halftime deficit. Here’s the difference from then to now, though. G Keith Appling. Appling didn’t have the best shooting game in the world against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday night, as he went just 6-of-15, including 1-of-6 from long range. However, he wasn’t afraid to step up and take the big shot, and his driving to the lane consistently set up great efforts either for himself or for his teammates. If Appling continues to be the aggressor in this one, we just don’t think that Ohio State has the guards to be able to keep up with him and his attitude. F Deshaun Thomas could be in for another big night, but F Adreian Payne could at least somewhat neutralize him on the glass. On top of that, Head Coach Tom Izzo always seems to put together teams that can win at this level, regardless of how much veteran leadership he really has on the team. Go with Izzo and the Spartans to eke one out in Chicago and to move on to the Big Ten Final on Sunday.

The Hawkeyes know that this is the game for their entire season. They need this win and possibly one more to get into the NCAA Tournament, and if they fail in this game, they know that they can count on going to the NIT and no better. The problem that we have with Iowa this time of year is that it just doesn’t have the experience at this level. The Spartans have virtually all been here and done this, and there is no coach in the country you’d rather have than Head Coach Tom Izzo in this type of a clutch situation. Michigan State hasn’t lost to a team of this quality really all season long, while Iowa hasn’t beaten a team like this all season long either. Wins over the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Illinois Fighting Illini just don’t add up when push comes to shove. The Hawkeyes have had a great season, and their 21 win season is nothing to bat an eyelash at, but they just don’t have the horses in this one to keep up with G Keith Appling and Izzo’s Spartans.

Iowa vs. Michigan State Pick: Michigan State Spartans
Big Ten Quarterfinals Prediction: Michigan State 69 – Iowa 61

The time is here for more of our sparkling CBB picks, as we look at the schedule for basketball for Thursday night. The Michigan State Spartans and Wisconsin Badgers will have it in a nationally televised game, which can be seen on the college basketball TV schedule on ESPN.

Free College Hoops Picks: Wisconsin Badgers @ Michigan State Spartans
Date: Thursday, March 7th, 9:00 ET
Location: Jack Breslin Student Events Center, East Lansing, MI
Wisconsin vs. Michigan State Live TV: ESPN

The Spartans are falling apart in front of our very eyes. They have lost three games in a row, and though all of them have been winnable games, losses are losses, and when you’re chasing a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, three losses in a span of two weeks going into the month of March really isn’t good. G Keith Appling is in bad shape, having scored an average of just 6.0 points per game in his last three outings, and he committed the turnover that cost the team the game against the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday. Meanwhile, Wisconsin is coming off of a brutal loss to the Purdue Boilermakers that came out of absolutely nowhere. The Badgers had gone 6-1 SU and 5-1-1 ATS in their previous seven games, and their only loss was a very excusable one against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on the road. We’ll chalk that one up to a case of looking past a bad opponent and getting caught. If that’s the case, Michigan State is going to be in some trouble. We’ll give the Spartans the win, but we think that the Badgers will earn a tough cover.

Wisconsin vs. Michigan State Pick: Wisconsin Badgers +4
Wisconsin vs. Michigan State Prediction: Michigan State 64 – Wisconsin 63

College Basketball Picks: Michigan State Spartans @ Michigan Wolverines
Date: Sunday, March 3rd, 4:00 ET
Location: Crisler Arena, Ann Arbor, MI
Michigan State vs. Michigan Live TV: CBS

The Spartans and the Wolverines are going to do battle for the second time this year on Sunday, and that action should be fierce. Both teams are still gunning both for a top seed in the NCAA Tournament, but the top seed in the Big Ten Tournament and the regular season Big Ten title as well. It isn’t likely that anyone is going to be able to run down the Indiana Hoosiers, but five teams are still in the race at this point. Either MSU or Michigan is going to be eliminated when this day is over with. The last time these two teams met, the game really was never all that close, as the Spartans won by 23 points in a romp from the get go. The Wolverines are going to want to make amends in this one though, and Michigan State is there for the taking. The Spartans have dropped two games in a row both SU and ATS in the Big Ten, and we wonder if blowing that lead to Indiana might have been the straw that broke the camel’s back on a team that is quite talented, but probably not quite as talented as some of the rest of the teams in this conference. Now that we are back in Ann Arbor, where Michigan has won and covered two straight in this series, we think that the Wolverines are going to shine with a big victory.

Michigan State vs. Michigan Pick: Michigan Wolverines -4
Michigan State vs. Michigan Prediction: Michigan 77 – Michigan State 64

The time is here for more of our sparkling CBB picks, as we look at the schedule for basketball for Tuesday night. The Michigan State Spartans and Indiana Hoosiers will have it in a nationally televised game, which can be seen on the college basketball TV schedule on ESPN.

Free College Hoops Picks: Indiana Hoosiers @ Michigan State Spartans
Date: Tuesday, February 19th, 7:00 ET
Location: Jack Breslin Student Events Center, East Lansing, MI
Indiana vs. Michigan State Live TV: ESPN

If the Hoosiers really are the best team in the country by a definitive margin, this is a game that they are going to win. Unfortunately for IU, the Spartans have a heck of a lot more to prove and a lot more on the line than that. A loss in this game isn’t going to hurt the Hoosiers in their quest to be a top seed in the dance. A win in this one though, would mean the world for MSU. We know that the crowd is going to be rocking at the Jack Breslin Center on Tuesday, and when that is happening to the fullest, this is a hard team to beat. Head Coach Tom Izzo is coaching a team that has no fears whatsoever, no matter what the situation is. G Keith Appling didn’t even play the equivalent of a full half of basketball due to foul troubles when these two teams met in Bloomington. Michigan State only took six foul shots the whole game; Indiana had 20. The Spartans still found a way to be right there at the end of the game, losing by just five points. That’s just the type of team that Izzo is coaching. This is a resilient team that has a lot of attitude to it, and Indiana isn’t going to overwhelm this bunch. This feels exactly like the game that Indiana played against the Michigan Wolverines two weeks ago. The Hoosiers had a lot to prove in front of a great, riled up crowd. Now, the shoe is on the other foot. The Spartans are going to get this one.

Indiana vs. Michigan State Pick: Michigan State Spartans -1.5
Indiana vs. Michigan State Prediction: Michigan State 77 – Indiana 72

As any of our readers could probably tell over the course of the last few weeks, we really don’t think all that much of the Wolverines at the moment. Yes, they got unlucky not to beat the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison this weekend, but they also didn’t play their best game and were bad enough to lose the game. This was their third straight very suspect outing for sure, and they are going to be in a lot of trouble in this one as well. Michigan State has continually beaten some of the best teams in the land, and there aren’t many games that it has been beaten in that it was favored in. The discipline of men like G Keith Appling and C Derrick Nix will show for sure, as will the inconsistencies of G Tim Hardaway, Jr. and F Glenn Robinson III on the other side of the court. Michigan does have recent history on its side, having won and covered three of the last four meetings. However, here in East Lansing, the team is just 1-12 SU in its last 13 visits. That just isn’t going to cut it. We see no reason why the Spartans would lose this one at home.

Sparty has essentially been kicking tail and taking names over the course of the last several weeks. There are only four losses to show for this year, and those defeats are all in games in which there is no shame whatsoever. Basically, MSU has been beating the teams that it is supposed to beat and suffering iffy results on the road against the best and brightest in the Big Ten. This is one of those games that should be won for sure. However, we’re not all that certain that it is going to go according to the script. Oh, the men in green will win this game, but there is a point of market correction for the Illini. They have been embarrassed quite a bit over the course of the last several games, losing by 14 to Michigan, dropping by 14 to Northwestern as a 10-point favorite, getting crippled by 23 by Wisconsin, and 17 by Minnesota. Matters just don’t look like they could possibly get any worse at this point. That’s why we are going to take the points that are on our side in this one. The Illini did win when these two teams got together in January in an ugly 42-41 affair. It won’t be that ugly this time around, and Illinois isn’t going to win it, but it will walk away with a cover.

Illinois vs. Michigan State Pick: Illinois Fighting Illini +8.5
Illinois vs. Michigan State Prediction: Michigan State 71 – Illinois 67

This is arguably the biggest clash of the weekend, and it is going to be a battle of titans for sure. Both of these teams are hard to argue against. The Spartans have won seven straight, and they have only been beaten by Minnesota, Miami, and UConn all year long. They went on the road and beat Wisconsin during the week and trumped Ohio State at home, and now, they’re heading to Bloomington with another upset on their minds. Indiana though, has played pretty darn well, too. Sure, the team has failed to cover four in a row and six out of seven. However, the Hoosiers have lost just once since the middle of December, and that was a very excusable game against Wisconsin. Most are going to look at the recent form of these two teams and say that the Spartans are the right side because of their winning streak and the fact that they trounced the Badgers in Madison, whereas Indiana lost to Wisconsin here at Assembly Hall. Still, we think that talent for talent, there aren’t many teams in America like the Hoosiers, and the end result of this one is going to be a gritty win for the hosts.

Michigan State vs. Indiana Pick: Indiana Hoosiers -9

Smell that? Kinda smells fishy, no? The Badgers are a 13-5 team that has been as bipolar as all get out over the course of the first few weeks of Big Ten play. They were knocked off by the Iowa Hawkeyes on the road, but that came just a few days after going on the road and beating the Indiana Hoosiers. The club clearly isn’t all that talented offensive, and it needs to get a spark from somewhere when the defense isn’t on top of its game. Now, a Michigan State team comes to town that is insanely tough to blow out. The squad is a veteran outfit that has gone on the road and won and competed in games against the best that the Big Ten has to offer. Now, to make matters even fishier, Michigan State is getting over 65% of the betting action on its side, yet the line is only creeping up or staying static (depending upon the sportsbook). It almost seems like the books are trying to bait us into taking the Spartans. Instead, we’re going to go against the grain and stick with our gut with the Badgers, as our gut is telling us that this is a game that looks too good to be true.

Michigan State vs. Wisconsin Pick: Wisconsin Badgers -5.5
Michigan State vs. Wisconsin Prediction: Wisconsin 66 – Michigan State 58
