Midwest Region Picks: #4 Michigan Wolverines vs. #1 Louisville Cardinals

National Championship Game Betting Lines
#4 Michigan Wolverines +3.5
#1 Louisville Cardinals -3.5
Over/Under 138

5Dimes NCAA TournamentThe Cardinals and the Wolverines have made it all the way to the NCAA Tournament Final, and they are going to be going at it for the full 40 minutes on Monday night for the right to be called champions. Louisville has, without a shadow of a doubt, been the most popular team to bet on the March Madness betting lines this year, and for good reason. The team has won 15 games in a row going into the National Championship Game, and the mass majority of those wins have come by double digits. The last time that the Cards didn’t win a game by at least four though, was back with that five-overtime game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a game that was lost in South Bend. G Russ Smith clearly has the inside track to being the NCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player, and he could be well on his way to stardom at the next level as well.

For as great as the Cardinals are – and we do think that they have had the most talented team in America all season long – Michigan is just a touched team right now. The team might have problems putting games away, and it might not have hit its foul shots down the stretch against the Syracuse Orange, but there is no doubting the fact that this was a tremendously underseeded No. 4 seed. G Trey Burke is destined to have a significantly better game than he had in the Final Four against the Orange, and he probably is going to be playing with a massive chip on his shoulder because of it. The Wolverines have played the schedule all season long to get ready for a game like this one. All of those games against Michigan State and Ohio State and Wisconsin and Illinois and Minnesota and Indiana… Now is when they will all pay dividends. It hasn’t been a mistake all season long that the Wolverines were once the No. 1 team in America, and they are going to prove it by shocking the world and capturing the National Championship for the first time since 1989 on Monday night.

Final Four Betting Lines
#4 Michigan Wolverines -2
#4 Syracuse Orange +2
Over/Under 131

The Wolverines and the Orange both feel like they are more or less touched teams right now. Syracuse has driven into the Final Four in what could be the last season for Head Coach Jim Boeheim before he hangs it up, and the team has truly been one of the most explosive defensively that we have seen in years at this level. Michigan has figured out how to knock down miraculous shot after miraculous shot, and it just doesn’t seem like there is a defense in the land that can get in front of this team. Here’s the only difference that we see, though. The Wolverines are going to want to push the tempo just a bit, something that the Orange just won’t let them do. The Marquette Golden Eagles tried their best to do it, and they were held to just 39 points in the process. Granted, we don’t really believe that Big Blue is going to be held in the 30s in this one, but we just don’t know if they are going to be able to win a defensive showdown with the ‘Cuse. Michigan doesn’t have a great history of playing in these defensive showdowns, and though it was able to get the job done against a somewhat similar Kansas Jayhawks team in the Sweet 16, it was able to push the game to the tempo that it wanted for much of the second half. As long as the ‘Cuse don’t get out of their game, they should win this one and march onto the NCAA Championship Game on Monday.

Michigan vs. Syracuse Free Pick: Syracuse Orange +2

March Madness free picks are one of our top specialties this time of year here at Cappers Info, and we have another great one on the NCAA Tournament schedule on Sunday night. The #4 Michigan Wolverines and the #3 Florida Gators will meet in the Elite Eight in the South Region, and we’re breaking down the NCAA basketball betting lines for the clash.

South Region Picks: #4 Michigan Wolverines vs. #3 Florida Gators
Date: Sunday, March 31st, 2:20 p.m. ET
South Region Location: Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Arlington, TX
Michigan vs. Florida Live on TV: CBS

Elite Eight Betting Lines
#4 Michigan Wolverines +2.5
#3 Florida Gators -2.5
Over/Under 132.5

The Gators and the Wolverines are both fantastic teams, but they have taken vastly different roads to reach this point in this tournament. It hasn’t been Florida’s fault, but it has taken on three double-digit seeds and has at least had some moments of struggle against each of the three. The Gators have ended up relying upon their superior athleticism to get the job done against clearly inferior teams. This is going to be the first time, perhaps maybe even all season long, that the team is going to have to look a team in the face that absolutely has the athletes to stand up to it. Michigan’s newest version of the de facto “Fab Five” certainly played the role on Friday night. Not only did the team feature all five starters scoring in double digits, but it also had some flash, some glitz, some grit, and some tenacity as well, all good qualities that you’d like to see of a potential Final Four team at this level. G Trey Burke hit the two biggest shots of the season, both of which practically came from the parking lot against the Jayhawks, and he is really making himself a tremendous hero in Ann Arbor. This is a magical looking Michigan team right now. The Wolverines seem to be the real deal, and they are going to pull off the upset on Sunday to kick off what should be another great day of March Madness betting action. Michigan proves that it was no fluke that this used to be the No. 1 team in America.

Sweet 16 Betting Lines
#4 Michigan Wolverines +2
#1 Kansas Jayhawks -2
Over/Under 136

The Wolverines are going to be in a heck of a lot of trouble if they think that they are going to be scoring oodles of points against the Jayhawks. Kansas has allowed more than 70 points exactly once in their last 25 NCAA Tournament games, and this doesn’t figure to be another one of these games where this turns out to be the case. C Jeff Withey really has no equal in the paint that Michigan is going to throw his way, and we really don’t believe that F Mitch McGary is going to be coming up with another insane 20+ points and 10+ rebounds effort like he had in the Round of 32 in the tourney against the VCU Rams. That VCU team was undersized. This Kansas team isn’t. If there is going to be an issue for the Jayhawks, it’s going to be in the backcourt, where G Travis Releford is truly playing out of position at the point guard spot. G Ben McLemore can make up for it with his hotshot shooting abilities, but these two are going to have some troubles keeping up with G Trey Burke and G Tim Hardaway Jr. However, the defense for the Jayhawks really will be the difference in this game. Kansas hasn’t played its best offensive game yet, though it did come up with a great second half to put away North Carolina on Sunday. If that team that played the second half of that game is the one that shows up this Friday night, Michigan is going to be in a heck of a lot of trouble.

Third Round Betting Lines
#5 VCU Rams +3.5
#4 Michigan Wolverines -3.5
Over/Under 142.5

5Dimes NCAA TournamentAs far as we are concerned, this is the toughest possible game to handicap on the March Madness betting lines. VCU really did look like one of the best teams in the country when it blew past the Akron Zips on Thursday night in the biggest beat down that a No. 5 ever slapped on a No. 12 seed in tourney history. We know that the team can hit its shots, and we know if it does, it can really make life a living hell on even the best guards in the country. Michigan has great guard play, but it is a young team that could fold under the pressure, the likes of which it really hasn’t seen this year. The teams that really pressured the Wolverines, particular in trap situations or the full court press had a lot of success for the most part during the Big Ten campaign. However, we do like what we saw out of the Wolverines on Thursday. They got a great game from F Glenn Robinson III, and they had no troubles setting aside the South Dakota State Spartans in spite of the fact that they didn’t get a great game at all out of G Trey Burke, arguably the best player in the country. On top of that, it became clear to us that the more points that the Rams slapped on a terrible team, they more that they were going to ultimately be overrated in this one. Though we wouldn’t be surprised at anything that happens on Saturday, we do think that the Wolverines are going to find some way to get the job done and advance into the Sweet 16.

VCU vs. Michigan Free Pick: Michigan Wolverines -3.5
VCU vs. Michigan Predictions: Michigan 68 – VCU 63

Second Round Betting Lines
#13 South Dakota State Jackrabbits +11
#4 Michigan Wolverines -11
Over/Under 138.5

Every now and again, you see a kid that can transcend above the NCAA Tournament. We saw Stephen Curry do it. We saw Gerry McNamara do it. We saw Gordon Hayward do it. And G Nate Wolters is the type of man that could do it, too. Wolters is a huge scorer and always has been for his whole career with South Dakota State. The Summit League star has averaged 22.7 points per game this year, and he now has over 2,300 points scored in his illustrious career. Wolters literally did not come out of any game in the Summit League Tournament this year, and he has averaged 41:20 per game on the court over the course of his last six games. Last year in the dance though, Wolters only scored 19 points, and his team was completely overmatched physically by the Baylor Bears. The game stayed close, and the final margin was only eight, but it wasn’t a game that ever looked it truly could have been won. This is going to be much of the same. Michigan has its own version of Wolters in G Trey Burke, and obviously, Burke has put up his 19+ points and 6+ assists per game against a much tougher schedule. We do think that the Wolverines will screw around in this game for a bit, and Wolters’ never-say-die attitude will at least help the Jackrabbits stay in it. In the end though, it will once again be athleticism that rules the day. Michigan will win the battle on the boards by a huge margin, and it will get a somewhat closer than expected triumph to move onto the Round of 32.

South Dakota State vs. Michigan Free Pick: South Dakota State Jackrabbits +11
South Dakota State vs. Michigan Predictions: Michigan 73 – South Dakota State 64

The time is here for more of our sparkling CBB picks, as we look at the schedule for basketball for Friday night. The Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan Wolverines will have it the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals, which can be seen on the college basketball TV schedule on ESPN.

Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals Picks: Michigan Wolverines vs. Wisconsin Badgers
Date: Friday, March 15th, 2:30 ET
Location: United Center, Chicago, IL
Michigan vs. Wisconsin Live TV: ESPN

The Badgers and the Wolverines are both going to the NCAA Tournament, and the truth of the matter is that this game really doesn’t mean a whole heck of a lot. Of course, the Wolverines still have a case to become a No. 1 seed in the dance, but it is going to take them winning the Big Ten Tournament to have a shot. We aren’t so sure about this Michigan outfit, though. The team has the guards that can take the big time shots with G Trey Burke and G Tim Hardaway Jr., but on the inside, there are some issues. F Glenn Robinson III continues to be a disappointment in the Big Ten season, and he is going to have to step it up in this game if the team is going to ultimately win this game. The Badgers are flat out awesome in the paint, and they can rebound the basketball well enough to take down Big Blue. On top of that, Michigan had to play yesterday, albeit against the lowly Penn State Nittany Lions, while Wisconsin was sitting on the sidelines, watching, and waiting. It seems a bit ridiculous that the Badgers are underdogs in this game.

Michigan vs. Wisconsin Pick: Wisconsin Badgers +3
Big Ten Quarterfinals Prediction: Wisconsin 61 – Michigan 57

For all of the great games this weekend on the college basketball odds, the Indiana vs. Michigan game is the one that you aren’t going to want to miss out on. These two teams are amongst the best in the country, and the winner of this one is going to into the Big Ten Tournament next week with a real chance at being a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Both teams have that opportunity for the time being, and if either one goes on to win the Big Ten title, it will be hard to deny that squad a top spot. We expect to see the Hoosiers play an aggressive game on the road, making up for the very lackluster game that they played against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Tuesday night. This wouldn’t be the first time that IU was the aggressor in this series. The Hoosiers went to the foul line 25 times against Michigan in the first clash versus the just seven free throw attempts for the Wolverines. The three-point shot could be the great equalizer, especially here in Ann Arbor, but we are going to take our chances that the lanky, athletic defenders for the Hoosiers are going to make the difference. This is a game that IU should win in our eyes.

Indiana vs. Michigan Pick: Indiana Hoosiers pk
Indiana vs. Michigan Prediction: Indiana 70 – Michigan 64

The Spartans and the Wolverines are going to do battle for the second time this year on Sunday, and that action should be fierce. Both teams are still gunning both for a top seed in the NCAA Tournament, but the top seed in the Big Ten Tournament and the regular season Big Ten title as well. It isn’t likely that anyone is going to be able to run down the Indiana Hoosiers, but five teams are still in the race at this point. Either MSU or Michigan is going to be eliminated when this day is over with. The last time these two teams met, the game really was never all that close, as the Spartans won by 23 points in a romp from the get go. The Wolverines are going to want to make amends in this one though, and Michigan State is there for the taking. The Spartans have dropped two games in a row both SU and ATS in the Big Ten, and we wonder if blowing that lead to Indiana might have been the straw that broke the camel’s back on a team that is quite talented, but probably not quite as talented as some of the rest of the teams in this conference. Now that we are back in Ann Arbor, where Michigan has won and covered two straight in this series, we think that the Wolverines are going to shine with a big victory.

Michigan State vs. Michigan Pick: Michigan Wolverines -4
Michigan State vs. Michigan Prediction: Michigan 77 – Michigan State 64

College Basketball Picks: Illinois Fighting Illini @ Michigan Wolverines
Date: Sunday, February 24th, 1:00 ET
Location: Crisler Arena, Ann Arbor, MI
Illinois vs. Michigan Live TV: ESPN

GT Bets Banner

An interesting afternoon of basketball for sure awaits for the Illini and the Wolverines. Michigan is one of the better teams in the land in terms of talent, and G Trey Burke should arguably be on his way to National Player of the Year honors for what he has accomplished for the Big Blue Nation. However, we have a real issue right now with the Wolverines. They have dropped three of their last five games SU, were lucky to win the one that they did against a good Ohio State Buckeyes team, and they have failed to cover five in a row since this streak of difficult games really got started. There is a real question now, as to whether this team is nothing but a paper tiger or not. If it is, this could become a very interesting game. Michigan went to Champaign a few weeks ago and beat the snot out of Illinois, but the Illini are a significantly better outfit now than they were then. They aren’t quite going to be able to pull off the upset on the road, but we do think that they are going to hang a lot closer than they did the first time around in what should be a competitive game to the wire at Crisler Arena.

Illinois vs. Michigan Pick: Illinois Fighting Illini +9.5
Illinois vs. Michigan Prediction: Michigan 73 – Illinois 70

As any of our readers could probably tell over the course of the last few weeks, we really don’t think all that much of the Wolverines at the moment. Yes, they got unlucky not to beat the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison this weekend, but they also didn’t play their best game and were bad enough to lose the game. This was their third straight very suspect outing for sure, and they are going to be in a lot of trouble in this one as well. Michigan State has continually beaten some of the best teams in the land, and there aren’t many games that it has been beaten in that it was favored in. The discipline of men like G Keith Appling and C Derrick Nix will show for sure, as will the inconsistencies of G Tim Hardaway, Jr. and F Glenn Robinson III on the other side of the court. Michigan does have recent history on its side, having won and covered three of the last four meetings. However, here in East Lansing, the team is just 1-12 SU in its last 13 visits. That just isn’t going to cut it. We see no reason why the Spartans would lose this one at home.

Michigan vs. Michigan State Pick: Michigan State Spartans +1
Michigan vs. Michigan State Prediction: Michigan State 69 – Michigan 64

The Badgers and the Wolverines are both in the midst of terribly tough stretches of schedule, and neither really has passed their tests with flying colors at this point. Oh sure, both survived overtime battles at home on Wednesday night, but the wins over the Iowa Hawkeyes and Ohio State Buckeyes respectively should have come much easier than they did. Of course, Michigan still has that loss on the road at the Indiana Hoosiers in the back of its head as well. Remember that Wisconsin did, after all, win in Bloomington a few weeks ago in shocking fashion. The key to this game is going to be pace. If these young guards for the Wolverines can’t handle the pressure of playing on the road against a defensive minded team that gets its crowd into the game like none other in the conference, it’s going to be a long day for the Big Blue Nation. Madison is just hell to play in, and so many have found that out over the course of the last several years. Don’t be shocked if the Badgers end up busting up Michigan for the win that could ultimately ensure that the team is dancing come March.

Michigan vs. Wisconsin Pick: Wisconsin Badgers -1.5
Michigan vs. Wisconsin Prediction: Wisconsin 66 – Michigan 64
