The 2012 National Championship will be handed out on Monday night, and here at Cappers Info, we are making our last Final Four picks of the year when we watch the Kentucky Wildcats take on the Kansas Jayhawks in New Orleans.

Final Four Matchup: #1 Kentucky Wildcats vs. #2 Kansas Jayhawks
Date: Monday, March 2nd, 9:20 ET
Location: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA
Final Four Odds: Kentucky -6.5
NCAA Tournament TV Schedule: CBS

The road to the Final Four ends here for both Kentucky and Kansas, who are vying for yet another banner to be able to hang in either Rupp Arena or Phog Allen Fieldhouse. The Wildcats have had a very tough road to reach this point, having to dispose of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, Iowa State Cyclones, Indiana Hoosiers, Baylor Bears, and Louisville Cardinals to reach this point. Those who got in the way of the Jayhawks include the Detroit Titans, Purdue Boilermakers, NC State Wolfpack, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Ohio State Buckeyes.

The big difference between the two roads to make it to New Orleans has had to do with the ease in which both teams have gotten here. Kentucky really hasn’t been challenged the whole way. There are times in which the Cats have looked beatable, but in the end, there hasn’t been a team in the land that has been able to stick within better than eight points of them here in the dance. If they are able to cover this game with ease, this will surely go down as one of the most dominating performances in the history of the NCAA Tournament. Meanwhile, against a significantly easier road in terms of the seedings of the teams tit had to face, Kansas struggled a heck of a lot more. Generally speaking, you’ve got to figure out how to win the close games in this tourney, and the Jayhawks have done just that, especially in the gritty wins over Ohio State in the Final Four and Purdue way back in the second round. In both games, KU was down and down quite a bit, and in both cases, it was able to fight back and get the job done at the death with the savvy of its veteran stars.

Wager Web Sportsbook

And that is the other theme in this game. The Wildcats are going to have to win this game with their talent. Anthony Davis is going to almost surely be in the NCAA Tournament MVP if the Cats win this one, and he might be on his way to being the top pick in the NBA Draft this year as well. He and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist make up one of the most dominating frontcourts in the country. Kansas has its talent, but unlike Kentucky, which has at least four or five NBA players, it has probably just two or so. Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor are the two that are going to have to lead this team into the title game, but as we have seen in this tournament, if they aren’t able to get the job done, the rest of the veterans on this team, including Jeff Withey, Elijah Johnson, and Travis Releford, have been able to get the job done.

When these two teams met earlier in the year, it wasn’t really all that much of a contest. This time around though, we think that the Jayhawks are a heck of a lot better suited for the game of their lives. Kentucky is great, but there is something about the fact that Head Coach John Calipari has never won a National Championship that really rubs us the wrong way. Head Coach Bill Self, as far as we are concerned, has done the best job in this tournament, and when push comes to shove, we think that he is going to be able to lead his troops to get the job done on Monday night to give the Jayhawks yet another National Championship.

We’re down to just eight teams that are left standing on the road to the Final Four, and on Sunday afternoon, we are set to make our Final Four picks in the clash between the Kentucky Wildcats and the Louisville Cardinals.

Final Four Matchup: #4 Louisville Cardinals vs. #1 Kentucky Wildcats
Date: Sunday, March 31st, 6:00 ET
Final Four Location: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA
Final Four Odds: Kentucky -9
NCAA Tournament TV Schedule: CBS

In the great history of the NCAA Tournament, we may have never seen a game quite like this one. The Cardinals and the Wildcats absolutely hate each other, and we are going to inevitably see that bad blood on display on Saturday night in the Bayou. Kentucky was able to score the victory when these two teams engaged in their annual clash on New Year’s Eve, though the seven point margin of victory wasn’t nearly as impressive as the game really was for the most part. The Wildcats were ranked No. 3 in the nation at the time, which wasn’t all that surprising, though you might be a bit shocked to know that Louisville, a No. 4 seed in this tournament, was ranked No. 4 in the land at the time as well.

It is clear that Kentucky has the more talented of these two teams. Men like Terrence Jones, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and Anthony Davis all have the ability to dominate in the post on both sides of the court, and none of the three future lottery picks have disappointed. That being said, the real onus in this one is going to fall on the guards. Doron Lamb has had a great season, and he has almost quietly posted nothing but games with at least 14 points here in the dance. Marquis Teague is doing a great job holding onto the basketball as well, and he is going to be the one that has to withstand the most pressure for the Wildcats to survive.

Head Coach Rick Pitino knows exactly what he has here with his team. The Cards didn’t have the most talented team in the West Region this year, and the truth of the matter is that they were possibly outmanned in three of the four games that they have played so far in the tourney, and they were certainly not the more talented side against either the Michigan State Spartans or the Florida Gators. What we saw against both teams last weekend though, was tremendous levels of passion. The defense just swarmed all over the court against an MSU team that was full of great leaders and veterans, while over the weekend against the Gators, a big time run at the end of the game showed the will that this team had to get the job done, even against the highest level of adversity. Don’t kid yourself about the talent on this team, though. It definitely does exist. Gorgui Dieng, if he stays out of foul trouble, is one of the best defensive stoppers in the middle of any defense in the land, while Peyton Siva can both knock down the big time shot and make the crucial pass when he has to in order to find the open man. Russ Smith is a great sharpshooter, and he is one of the many that can kill the will of the opponent when given the opportunity.

Think of this as a traditional rivalry game in college football. It is awfully hard to win these games by a ton of points. What we are going to see is a heck of a lot of punishment on both sides of the ball, and the more physical this Louisville team can make this game, the better the chance that it can win this game. We don’t think that the Cardinals are going to ultimately get the job done in the end, but we do think that they are at least going to cover this point spread, the largest that we have seen in the Final Four in a decade.

There is only a place for one more team in the NCAA Tournament Final, and on Saturday night, either the Ohio State Buckeyes or the Kansas Jayhawks are going to claim their prize as one of the last two teams standing. Check out our Final Four predictions!

Final Four Matchup: #2 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. #2 Kansas Jayhawks
Date: Saturday, March 31st, 8:45 ET
Location: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA
Final Four Odds: Ohio State -2.5
NCAA Tournament TV Schedule: CBS

Though there is a heck of a lot of hype that is taking place for the first game here in the Big East between the hated rivals, Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Wildcats, there might be even more talent on the court for this one. There is a reason that both the Buckeyes and the Jayhawks were favored in their respective Elite Eight games in spite of the fact that they were both running into the No. 1 seeds in their respective brackets.

The crucial matchups in this one are going to be the combo of Jared Sullinger and Deshaun Thomas against the duo of Thomas Robinson and Jeff Withey. Thomas has been unstoppable at times in this tourney. He scored 26 against the Cincinnati Bearcats in the big time Sweet 16 showdown, and he has had at least 14 points and at least nine boards in all of his tourney games. Thomas averaged over 16 points per game during the season, and he has only sat out a total of two minutes in the entire dance. Sullinger battled foul trouble against the Syracuse Orange in the Elite Eight, but he still got his 19 points and seven boards. This is a double-double machine, but it is also a man that hasn’t really run into a man that is bigger than he is. Withey, standing at 7’0″ fits the mold. With 129 blocked shots, including 10 against the NC State Wolfpack in the Sweet 16, Kansas knows that it has a man that can be a real difference maker on the defensive side of the court. The North Carolina Tar Heels have some of the best big men in the game, and Withey had 15 points, eight boards, and three blocks, not to mention the fact that he really played lockdown ‘D’ against any of the bigs that he ran up against defensively. Thomas Robinson is a stud and is capable of a double-double every single time he steps onto the court.

Wager Web Sportsbook

For Kansas, Tyshawn Taylor is going to be key. We know that Aaron Craft and William Buford are going to get their shots, and they are both going to get their points in the end in all likelihood. Taylor was a bit MIA in the first three games of the tourney, but against North Carolina (granted, without Kendall Marshall), he was huge with 22 points, six boards, five assists, and five steals. He clearly needs another game like this one to do away with the Buckeyes.

We will start by saying that we think that the winner of this one is probably winning the whole enchilada. The Jayhawks are a side that looks like is coming together right in front of our eyes, and though we do love this Ohio State team as well, we definitely want the points on our side. KU is winning the close games – the types of games that you have to win in March to be able to cut down the nets at the Final Four, and we just don’t know how the Buckeyes are going to react to a very different situation to anything that they have seen thus far in this tournament. We’ll have the 2.5 points for safety on our side, but we don’t think that we are going to need them.

Final Four Free Pick: Kansas Jayhawks +2.5

Wisconsin vs. Syracuse Projected Final Score: Kansas 70 – Ohio State 63

Cappersinfo Current NCAA Basketball Power Rankings
(Final Four Power Rankings)

1: Kentucky Wildcats (36-2) – Every single time that we take a look at the Wildcats, we just keep seeing a team that looks like it is getting better and better. Head Coach John Calipari has done a fantastic job getting these players assembled on his roster, and though none are going to be four-year players in all likelihood, the end result really doesn’t matter as long as the Cats are cutting down the net here in the Big Easy when push comes to shove. We have waited and waited for Marquis Teague to show signs of being a freshman point guard trying to run the show on the biggest stage of them all, but we just haven’t seen it when push comes to shove. That being said, this is going t obe the toughest challenge that he has had in his entire career in the Final Four, and we remain insistent that if UK is going to get knocked out of this tournament, it is going to be because of the fact that Teague isn’t going to be at his best, making this a vulnerable team.

2: Ohio State Buckeyes (31-7) – The Buckeyes might not have been able to beat Michigan State in Big Ten play in two of the three meetings this year, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t proven that they were the best team in the conference in 2011-12. It is clear that last year’s NCAA Tournament experience has come in handy for Head Coach Thad Matta and the gang, and there isn’t a hungrier team amongst the four that are left dancing than this one. Jared Sullinger and Deshaun Thomas simply look like men on a mission, and William Buford and Aaron Craft still really haven’t even peaked yet either. If all four of these men are on the same page in the same game and all give their full potential, there isn’t a team in the land, even including Kentucky in our eyes, that can beat the Buckeyes.

3: Kansas Jayhawks (31-6) – The Jayhawks were able to get rid of their former head coach in Roy Williams in the Elite 8, and now, they have their sights set on winning the whole thing once again. They are most certainly a capable squad, though we know that they will only go as far as Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor take them. Taylor came alive against UNC, proving why he was such a highly recruited man coming into college two years ago. This is a team that doesn’t have as much NBA-ready talent as it has perhaps had in the past, but that doesn’t mean that the team as a whole isn’t as good. In fact, we think that the Jayhawks are as good as they have ever been, and they have a great shot to get the job done in the end against any team that runs into them.

4: Louisville Cardinals (30-9) – Oh, and allure the Big East! This used to be a conference that you wanted no part of. Even as recently as a few years ago, the team that survived the gauntlet in this conference’s tourney at Madison Square Garden was seemingly always knocked out of the NCAA Tournament prematurely. That being said, the UConn Huskies got the job done last year, sweeping through both the Big East Tournament and the NCAA Tournament to win it all, and Louisville is just two steps away from repeating that task for a second straight year. Gorgui Dieng is the star of a defense that has been absolutely remarkable over the course of this tournament. The Cardinals probably aren’t the most talented bunch of the four here in the Bayou, but they might be playing the best ball, and are certainly playing with the most intensity. That definitely makes them a force to be reckoned with in spite of the fact that they are the biggest underdogs in a Final Four game in over a decade.

After weeding through 30 other teams, there are just two that remain as we get set to make our 2012 NIT Final picks at Madison Square Garden. The No. 3 Stanford Cardinal are all set to try to represent the Pac-12 against the No. 6 Minnesota Golden Gophers from the Big Ten.

NIT Matchup: #6 Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. #3 Stanford Cardinal
Date: Thursday, March 29th, 7:00 ET
Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
NIT Odds: Pick ‘Em
NIT TV Schedule: ESPN, ESPN3.com

If you take a look at the history of these two teams and these two conferences in this tournament, it is clear which side you are going to want to take. Stanford has only been here once, and that was back in 1991. To its credit, it did win the game. However, the last time that a Pac-12 team played in the NIT Final was back in 1991 when the California Golden Bears won the title. Meanwhile, Minnesota has three trips to the final of this tournament, winning it in 1998 and 1993 and losing in 1980. The 1998 title was later vacated. Ironically, the loss in 1980 came against the Virginia Cavaliers, who were led by Ralph Sampson. Now, Sampson’s son, Ralph Sampson III, is going to hope to get back on the court for the Golden Gophers, though he has yet to suit up for the NIT this year.

What we know that we are going to be getting out of these two teams is a heck of a lot of defense. It was the defense that shined for both squads in the semifinal clashes on Tuesday night, and we wouldn’t expect to see anything different in this one. The keys are going to be Rodney Williams, Andre Hollins, and Austin Hollins, who are the only true big time scorers for Minnesota. On the other side of the court though, the Cardinal seem to have more options to turn to.

In the end, we think that the Pac-12 really has represented well in the postseason, knowing that the Cardinal are here in the final, the Washington Huskies made it to the NIT Final Four, and the Oregon Ducks and Washington State Cougars have represented well in their tournaments as well. The rest of the Big Ten outside of the Gophers and the Ohio State Buckeyes… not so much… This is a tossup game in every sense of the word, but in the end, we are going to back Stanford to cut down the nets and take home the 2012 NIT Championship.

The CBI and CIT have their finals on Wednesday night, and here at Cappers Info, we are breaking down the college basketball betting lines for both of these great duels.

College Basketball Matchup: Washington State Cougars @ Pittsburgh Panthers
Date: Wednesday, March 28th, 7:00 ET
Location: Petersen Events Center, Pittsburgh, PA
College Basketball Odds: Pittsburgh -9
College Basketball TV Schedule: HD Net

This is Game 2 of the best-of-three series between the Cougars and the Panthers. We can only hope that this game is as good as the first one was. Wazzu blocked away the last second shot to pick up a victory in Game 1 of this series, and now, it is just one victory away from locking up this postseason tournament. That being said, the Panthers are probably still considered to be the favorite team. We think that U-Pitt is going to take care of business in this one, and it is going to come by a big time margin of victory. We think that it is a heck of a lot harder for the Cougs to come to the East Coast than it was for the Panthers to go to the West Coast. This series will go to a third game on Friday night.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Pittsburgh -9

College Basketball Matchup: Mercer Bears @ Utah State Aggies
Date: Wednesday, March 28th, 9:00 ET
Location: Dee Glenn Smith Spectrum, Logan, UT
College Basketball Odds: Utah State -5.5
College Basketball TV Schedule: FOX College Sports Network

The Aggies have really rolled through this tournament with a ton of big time scalps coming here in Logan. They are coming off of their best offensive game of the year, the 105 point performance against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies over the weekend. Mercer is a team that has gone far in this tourney as well from the Atlantic Sun, a conference that hasn’t gotten a lot of respect over the years. The Bears are going to be up against it in this one though, and we think that Utah State is going to be the champion of this postseason tournament.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Utah State -5.5

Date: Tuesday, March 27th, 7:00 ET
Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
NIT Odds: Stanford -2.5
NIT TV Schedule: ESPN, ESPN3.com

Considering the fact that two of the four teams that are going to be playing here at Madison Square Garden are from the Pac-12, we know that we are going to see a heck of a lot of fans of the Minutemen here. The Atlantic 10 is a conference that usually does quite well in this tournament, as we have seen plenty of teams from this league make it to the Final Four here at MSG. It could be a good omen for a UMass team that clearly has been rising in value since beating the Temple Owls in the quarterfinals of the A-10 tourney. Stanford won the NIT in 1991, but that doesn’t mean that it is going to be the better team in this one. We just think that the hot Minutemen, who have already won three games on the road to reach this point in the tourney, are the team to pick to move onto the final of this duo.

NIT Free Pick: Massachusetts +2.5

NIT Matchup: #6 Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. #1 Washington Huskies
Date: Tuesday, March 27th, 9:00 ET
Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
NIT Odds: Washington -1
NIT TV Schedule: ESPN, ESPN3.com

The Golden Gophers were clearly one of the last teams selected to the NIT, but they were also a team that really deserved to be at least in the discussion for the NCAA Tournament as well. They have gone on the road and logged three victories, and the way that they have played in games this year outside of the Big Ten has been remarkable. Ralph Sampson III should be back tonight, and that would put him in the fold for the first time since before the Big Ten Tournament. The Huskies were clearly shafted out of the NCAA Tournament in our eyes, and we think if the Selection Committee had to choose again, the regular season Pac-12 champs would have been dancing instead of a team like the Iona Gaels. U-Dub has a heck of a lot of NBA talent on the court, and we think that a tremendous offense that can run with the best of them is going to be able to knock off the Gophers on Tuesday night.

The third ticket will be punched to the Final Four in Atlanta on Sunday afternoon, when the Kentucky Wildcats look to dance into the third week of the tourney for the second straight year against the Baylor Bears.

Elite 8 Matchup: #3 Baylor Bears vs. #1 Kentucky Wildcats
Date: Sunday, March 25th, 2:20 ET
Location: Phillips Arena, Atlanta, GA
Elite 8 Odds: Kentucky -7.5
NCAA Tournament TV Schedule: CBS

To say that there is a heck of a lot of talent that is going to be on the court on Sunday afternoon is a bit of an understatement. We could really make the argument that there are as many as about eight or nine NBA prospects that will be out there, and though we know that a lot of those players are going to be donning the colors of the Big Blue Nation, Head Coach John Calipari is going to be reminding his team of just how dangerous these Bears really are.

The biggest issue that Baylor is going to have to get past is the fact that it was terrible this year against some of the best teams in the country. Remember that the Bears were swept by both the Missouri Tigers and the Kansas Jayhawks during the regular season, and if not for the fact that they were able to snare a win in the Big XII Tournament over the Jayhawks, they wouldn’t possibly have any confidence that they can win a game like this one. However, we know that Pierre Jackson is going to be as talented as any guard out there on the court, and Perry Jones III, though his stats aren’t always the greatest, is the type of guy that can figure out how to stick around with an Anthony Davis or a Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

The Wildcats haven’t had the greatest tournament from a defensive standpoint. They just allowed 90 to the Indiana Hoosiers, and though they do have the talent to get the job done in games like this as well, with sharpshooters like Brady Heslip out on the court for the Bears, this definitely isn’t a game in which they want to be playing in the 80s or 90s. It will be difficult for sure though, because there are five starters on the other side that are all capable of double digit scoring nights, and that really does neutralize the fact that UK has six men that are averaging at least 10.0 points per game. It is the only team in the country that can boast that claim.

Many will probably think right away that the Cats are the right side, even laying so many points. We do think that in the end, the boys in blue are going to use their home court edge in this one to get past the Big XII reps, but we really don’t think that it is going to be all that easy. Head Coach John Calipari will get his team back to the Final Four this year, but it certainly isn’t going to be easy, nor will it be a game that comes without some ugly moments, likely on both sides of the court.
