I’ve been studying the ‘total’ for the New Mexico Bowl odds for quite some time, and I’m ready to make my New Mexico Bowl picks for the clash between the Arizona Wildcats and the Nevada Wolf Pack. The Nevada vs. Arizona kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET at University Stadium in Albuquerque, NM, and I’m going to show you which way to bet on college football to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

2012 New Mexico Bowl
Nevada Wolf Pack (7-5, 3-9 ATS) +9
Arizona Wildcats (7-5, 6-6 ATS) -9
Over/Under 77

The Wolf Pack and the Wildcats are both teams that can really light it up, but here in the New Mexico Bowl, I’m really not so sure that the game is going to be able to reach a ‘total’ that has really flown through the roof over the course of the last several days.

Bowl games haven’t always been kind for the Wolf Pack. They only scored 17 points last year against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in spite of the fact that they had an offense that scored at least 42 points in five of the team’s last seven games of the season, and they scored just 20 the year before in the final season for QB Colin Kaepernick. In fact, dating back to 2006, the Wolf Pack have been held to 20 points or fewer in all but one of their bowl games, and that was a game that they were beaten 42-35 by the Maryland Terrapins. This year’s team is a high flying team for sure with RB Stefphon Jefferson carrying the ball, but I’m just not certain that he is going to be able to do it all by himself.

The Wildcats have had the ability to get the ball moving up and down the field as well with RB Ka’Deem Carey. The team has done a lot of scoring in the 30s this year, and if you take away the games against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, South Carolina State Bulldogs, and the Colorado Buffaloes, all of which have terrible defenses, there isn’t all that much to speak of in terms of tremendous outputs. This strikes me as a game in which Arizona is going to get into the mid-30s, but not all that much more. And, with the way that Nevada has struggled to keep the ball moving in bowl games with teams having weeks and weeks to prepare for the Pistol offense, this is an ‘under’ game waiting to happen.

Get used to seeing a heck of a lot of underdogs this year in the bowl games, as we generally think that this is going to be a bowl season where a lot of favorites win games outright. There aren’t many times that we think that the Wolf Pack are a great play in the bowl season, as they have had a terrible history playing in the postseason, but this is going to be an exception to the rule.

The great equalizer this year is going to be the fact that Head Coach Rich Rodriguez is the man on the other side of the field. For as badly as Nevada has been in the postseason, Rich Rod hasn’t had all that much luck either, especially most recently when his old team, the Michigan Wolverines had their doors blown off in the Gator Bowl two years ago. It will also help Nevada that Arizona is only going to have two weeks to prepare for this game, and not the six weeks that some have had in the past to figure out this Pistol offense.

We aren’t all that sure that the Wolf Pack are going to be able to pull off the upset in this one, but we do think that this is going to be a great game to start the bowl season. The Mountain West was a competitive conference this year, and we think that a middling team in the MWC is going to be able to at least hang with a middling team in the Pac-12. Look for RB Stefphon Jefferson to give the Wildcats fits, just as he has against virtually every other team this year. Remember that this Arizona defense ranked 120th in the country, allowing over 485 yards per game on the campaign. Nevada might have allowed 212.9 yards per game, and it might be lacking just a bit of talent, but it should at least be able to stick around, just as it did in the finale this year against the Boise State Broncos.

The 2012 college football season continues this week, and here at Cappers Info, we’ll be looking at some of the best games on the docket each and every week, as we try to make the most money possible off of the CFB odds for the week. Week 14 College Football Picks: Boise State Broncos @ Nevada Wolf Pack
Date: Saturday, December 1st, 3:30 ET
Location: MacKay Stadium, Reno, NV
CFB Betting Odds: Boise State -8
Boise State vs. Nevada Live TV: ABC

It definitely is no mistake that the ‘total’ in this game has been coming down all week long. Last year, there were just 40 points scored in this game, and the year before, the only reason that there were 65 points scored was because of a tremendously wild last six minutes of the game. This Boise State defense is no joke. Against a decent schedule this year, the team ranks eighth in the land in total ‘D’ and fifth in scoring. No one has dropped more than 29 against the Broncos in 2012. Nevada on the other hand, is just flying all over the place. The Pistol offense has scored at least 31 in every single game this season, and the defense has been a wreck, allowing 24 or more to virtually every team on the slate. Odds have it though, with as bad as the Boise State offense is, getting to 31 or more in this one would be enough for the Wolf Pack. This is the best defense that they have faced all year long though, and we don’t think that they are quite going to get there. Head Coach Chris Petersen won’t let his team lose this one, but it won’t get to the number.

BovadaThe Fresno State Bulldogs and the Nevada Wolf Pack are set to kick off their college football clash on Saturday 11/10, and I’m set to make my college football pick for the affair at MacKay Field. Kickoff is set for 10:35 ET, and I’ve got the perfect NCAA football pick for this outstanding clash.

Fresno State Bulldogs (7-3, 9-1 ATS) -3
Nevada Wolf Pack (6-3, 2-7 ATS) +3
Over/Under 69

The Bulldogs are just rolling right now through teams, and the expectation is that they are going to be doing the same with Nevada in this one. This is a very NFL-like line, and the betting action is slanted just like it was an NFL game. Even more perfect? The fact that this one is the last kickoff of the night, and it should make the action even more square on Fresno State.

The Wolf Pack have struggled these last two weeks, especially last week against the Air Force Falcons when they were beaten by 17 and outgained by 220 yards. The offense is doing its thing, putting up points left and right, and I think that that is going to continue against a Fresno State defense that has looked shoddy at times.

Here’s the bottom line, though. The Bulldogs haven’t historically played well against Head Coach Chris Ault and the Wolf Pack, going 0-4 SU and just 2-2 ATS over the course of the last four seasons. This one just reeks of an upset to me, and it feels like the hosts are going to end their two-game skid at the expense of QB Derek Carr and company.

Fresno State vs. Nevada Tips: Nevada Wolf Pack +3

5Dimes SportsbookOne of my favorite plays on the Week 9 Friday college football odds pits the Air Force Falcons against the Nevada Wolf Pack. These two are going to be meeting at 8:00 p.m. ET at Falcon Stadium, and I’m going to show you which side to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

Nevada Wolf Pack (6-2, 2-6 ATS) -3
Air Force Falcons (4-3, 2-5 ATS) +3
Over/Under Off

For the first time, Nevada and Air Force are going to meet as conference foes in the Mountain West. Many expect to see the Wolf Pack bounce back from their crushing defeat in overtime last week to the San Diego State Aztecs, but I think that taking the points is the sharp play to make, especially here on a short week of preparation for both of these teams.

No one on this Nevada roster, including Head Coach Chris Ault has never prepared for the triple option before. Last week’s loss to San Diego State was clearly a game that the Pack needed to give 100% of their attention to, while on the other side, Air Force probably spent some extra time trying to defend the pistol due to the fact that its opponent, the New Mexico Lobos, wasn’t exactly first and foremost in its mind. The Falcons almost feel like they have been playing possum these last few weeks, though there is a chance that they just might not be all that good.

Both of these teams have been miserable from an ATS standpoint of late. Nevada has failed to cover four in a row and six out of seven, while Air Force has dropped three in a row. Still, the Falcons seem to have the better formula for success in this game, and it could show on Friday night in the form of an upset at home to get up to second place in the Mountain West.

Nevada @ Air Force Tips: Air Force Falcons +3

BovadaThe San Diego State Aztecs and the Nevada Wolf Pack are set to kick off their college football clash on Saturday 10/20, and I’m set to make my college football pick for the affair at MacKay Stadium. Kickoff is set for 10:35 ET, and I’ve got the perfect NCAA football pick for this outstanding clash.

San Diego State Aztecs (4-3, 4-3 ATS) +6.5
Nevada Wolf Pack (6-1, 2-5 ATS) -6.5
Over/Under 66.5

I just love betting on the last game on the college football rotation schedule on a weekly basis. It’s the last shot that anyone has to chase money that they lost over the course of the day, and when they look at this game, they are going to just make the assumption that it is going to be a high scoring affair with at least 70 on the board. I just don’t see it like that.

The Aztecs are starting to get their acts together defensive this year. It’s going to be tough to come on the road and take down the Pistol offense with just one week’s worth of preparation, but over the course of the last two weeks, they have held both of their foes to just a total of 14 points. Remember that the Washington Huskies were held down to just 21 as well at the outset of the season. The Wolfpack also likely are going to score in the mid-30s in this game, just as they did against the likes of Texas State, Wyoming, and South Florida.

These two last met in ’04, so there isn’t much to speak of there, but both of the last two meetings did stay ‘under’ the ‘total’. Just don’t be all that shocked when, in the end, this is a game that creeps into the high-50s or low-60s but nothing more, as late chasers go to bed angry and with empty pockets.

The WAC is usually represented in the Hawaii Bowl by the Hawaii Warriors, but for the third time since 2005, the Nevada Wolf Pack will be here, and they will look to try to beat the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl odds against the winners of Conference USA, the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles

Hawaii Bowl Odds: Southern Mississippi -6
Hawaii Bowl Total: 61.5
Hawaii Bowl TV Coverage: ESPN, ESPN3.com

It’s usually an oddity to see us backing an ‘under’ in the college football bowl season, but that’s precisely what we are going to do in this game.

The first issue that we know that we have in this game is that the Southern Miss defense is going to want to play its hearts out for the final time for Head Coach Larry Fedora. Fedora, a defensive guru by Conference USA standards, will be heading to the North Carolina Tar Heels as soon as this game is said and done with. That being said, he was able to devise a scheme to take care of the Houston Cougars, led by QB Case Keenum and their odd full out passing attack, and we have no doubt that with three weeks of preparation, there is no reason why he wouldn’t be able to do the same against Nevada’s Pistol.

Which brings us to our next point… Nevada’s offense has been incredible over the course of the last few years with QB Colin Kaepernick and a slew of experienced backs in the backfield. That being said, Head Coach Chris Ault has turned the ball over to QB Cody Fajardo, who is just a freshman. In due time, he could be as dominating as Kaepernick was by the end of his career, but for now, though he is a great passer and a solid runner, he still has a lot of questionable decisions that he has made with the football.

On top of that, Nevada, again, which is a team that generally scores at least 30 points per game on average, has been held to 20 or fewer in four of its last five bowl games. We think that these gimmicky offenses run by teams like Houston, Tulsa, Nevada, Navy, etc. all take a lot of time to figure out how to beat. On a week’s notice, it’s tough. On three weeks of notice, it is a heck of a lot easier, and a lot of teams figure out how to do it. There is no doubt that Southern Miss has the athletes to get the job done in this game, and in the end, this is going to be one of the few games in which we are calling for an ‘under’ result in this bowl season. Gun to our head, we’d take the Golden Eagles and lay the TD, but we have few doubts about the fact that the ‘under’ is the right play, especially at this high of a number.

One of the top offenses in the country takes on one of the top defenses that the land has to offer out in San Francisco, where Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl betting action will ensue on Sunday night after all of the NFL playoff betting festivities for the first round are said and done. The Nevada Wolf Pack will look to send QB Colin Kaepernick and company out of Reno as winners against the youthful Boston College Eagles, who have a lot to prove down the stretch.

Date: Sunday, January 9th, 9:00 ET
Location: Candlestick Park, San Francisco, CA
Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl Line: Nevada -7.5
Over/Under 55

Eagles Notes: It's clear that the key to winning this game for Head Coach Frank Spaziani and company is going to be contain the Nevada offense. The good news is that there has been a full month and a half to prepare for this Pistol look, something that really should play into BC's hands. Though this unit never saw an offense like this in 2010, the Eagles can rest assured that they have now allowed more than 16 points in a game since a 24-21 loss to the Maryland Terrapins at home on October 23rd. They also only gave up more than 31 points in a game once this year, a brutal 44-17 beat down at the hands of the NC State Wolfpack on October 9th. In totality, Boston College only surrendered 302.5 yards per game this year and were No. 1 in the land against the rush at 72.7 yards per game. Offensively, it's all about the running game for the young Eagles, who are going to be using this game as a bit of a springboard for the 2011 season in which the mass majority of the skill players are back. RB Montel Harris has had a great three year career thus far in Chestnut Hill, rushing for a total of 3,599 yards and 27 TDs in his career. He has six straight games with at least 100 yards on the ground, and has rumbled for an average of over 130 yards per game in that stretch. The play of QB Chase Rettig is going to be key, though. Rettig isn't going to be asked to put the ball in the air even 30 times in this game in all likelihood, but when he does throw the pigskin, he has to do it without turning the ball over. He is just a freshman playing in his first ever bowl game, but Rettig has to stay calm. He threw for 1,117 yards and six scores against seven picks in roughly half of a season's worth of action this year.

Wolf Pack Notes: Some of the numbers that you are going to see here for the Wolf Pack might shock and amaze you, as Head Coach Chris Ault deserves all the credit in the world for designing this Pistol attack and utilizing the pieces to the puzzle that he has to the fullest. If not for a 27-21 at the Hawaii Warriors, Nevada probably would have been playing in a BCS bowl game this year, as they surely would have been ranked in the Top 10 in the nation and would have had a significantly better argument to be in the Sugar Bowl than the Arkansas Razorbacks with two losses had. This is an offense that was held under 34 points just twice all season long, and was a team that put at least 49 on the board six times, including in each of the first three games of the season. The defense allowed just 22.1 points per game this year, and it was a unit that was sneakily good at times during the campaign. Nevada ranked No. 2 in the nation in total yardage at 536.1 yards per game and dropped 42.6 points per game to boot, No. 5 in the land. We've already mentioned the name of QB Colin Kaepernick. He has done a ton for this program in his four years as a starter, and Ault would love to send him out with a victory. He threw for 2,830 yards and 20 TDs this year and ran for 1,181 yards and 20 scores, making him just the third man in the history of college football to both throw for and rush for 20+ scores in the same season. RB Vai Taua will inevitably touch the ball at least 20 times on the day. He had 262 carries and 15 more receptions this year, accounting for a total of 1,750 yards and 22 TDs, one of the top marks in the country.

The Final Word: The real problem that Nevada has, we have already made mention of. It's going to be very, very hard to put new wrinkles in this rather simplistic offense. The Eagles have spent so much time analyzing this tape on this team, and you know that the squad is going to be pumped up to prove it can stop a great offensive assault. Sure, Nevada will get its points on the board, but it won't get as many as it is used to. We tend to think that Kaepernick and company will come out of San Fran with a win, but it won't be by more than a TD.

Matchup: Louisville Cardinals at Rutgers Scarlett Knights
Date: Friday, November 26th, 11:00 ET
Location: Rutgers Stadium, Piscataway, NJ
Game Line: Louisville -3.5
Over/Under 48

Two teams fighting for bowl eligibility square off Friday morning in Piscataway when the 5-6 Louisville Cardinals take on the 4-6 Scarlett Knights. First-year HC Charlie Strong has rejuvenated a Louisville program that was moribund under Steve Kragthorpe, although the record may not not say as much. Of Louisville's six losses, only one has been by more than one score and the Cardinals have been giving teams a game effort. On Saturday, the Cardinals played a slugfest of a game against Big East Rival West Virginia, giving the Mountaineers all they could handle in a 17-10 loss. Louisville's defense held West Virginia to just 261 total yards and sensational RB Noel Devine to only manage 58 yards on the day. QB Justin Burke got the start in place of the injured Adam Froman and had trouble moving the ball, completing just 50% of his passes 145 yards and an interception on the afternoon. Froman looks like he will get the start on Friday, but don't be surprised if Burke is the quarterback. Meanwhile, Rutgers continues to struggle, having lost four straight with only one conference win on their resume. Against Cincinnati, the story was the Scarlett Knights' inability to stop Cincinnati's offense through the duration of game. The Bearcats racked up an incredible 661 total yards on HQ Greg Schiano's squad in their 68-39 route of the Scarlett Knights. QB Chas Dodd had one of his best days on offense for the Scarlett Knights, completing 19 of 20 passes for 335 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss. WR Mark Harrison was the primary target of Dodd and had the game of a lifetime for Rutgers, catching 10 passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns on the afternoon.

Matchup: West Virginia Mountaineers @ Pittsburgh Panthers
Date: Friday, November 26th, 12:00 ET
Location: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA
Game Line: Pittsburgh -3
Over/Under 39

The Backyard Brawl will go a long way in determining the Big East title on Friday afternoon when 6-4 Pittsburgh Panthers host the 7-3 West Virginia Mountaineers. On Saturday, Pittsburgh gutted out a tough 17-10 road win over the South Florida Bulls. QB Tino Sunseri didn't put up dazzling numbers for the Panthers, but was good enough to get Pitt the win. Sunseri completed 11 of 16 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers' victory. RB Dion Louis also helped contribute to the win by carrying the ball 22 times for 105 yards and a touchdown. PItt's defense was once again stout, holding USF to less than 300 yards. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers scored a close victory themselves, a much needed 17-10 win over Louisville that stops WVU's recent skid. West Virginia's offense was held in check throughout the game by Louisville with QB Geno Smith only completing 9 of 20 passes for 133 yards rushing for just 20 yards on 11 carries without notching a touchdown. RB Noel Devine struggled as well, rushing for only 58 yards and touchdown on 23 carries. West Virginia's defense won them the game this afternoon, holding Louisville's offense to a scant 171 total yards.

Matchup: Auburn Tigers @ Alabama Crimson Tide
Date: Friday, November 26th, 2:30 ET
Location: Bryant Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL
Game Line: Alabama -4.5
Over/Under 58

The most anticipated regular season game of the year will take place Friday afternoon in the great state of Alabama when the 9-2 Alabama Crimson Tide take on the 11-0 Auburn Tigers. Although there is a whirlwind swirling around the possible ineligibility of Tigers' QB Cameron Newton, the Tigers are poised to make their first ever BCS Title Game if they can defeat arch-rival Alabama on Friday. Under the tutelage of OC Gus Malzahn, Newton has established himself as the best player in all of college football and would be the overwhelming favorite to win the Heisman Trophy if not for the eligibility concern. The last time college football betting enthusiasts saw Auburn was two weeks ago when the Tigers defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 49-31. Georgia gave Auburn all they could handle for three quarters before the tigers put them away in the fourth. Newton once again put together a fantastic game, completing 12 of 15 passes for 148 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while also carrying the ball 30 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Defensive guru Nick Saban will look to do what no other team has done this season in shutting down Newton. Alabama has had virtually two weeks to prepare for Auburn after walking through the motions in a 63-7 win over FCS Georgia State last Thursday night. Alabama's starters only played the first half and put up the numbers you'd expect in scoring 42 first half points. QB Greg McElroy completed 12 of 13 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns. RB Mark Ingram carried the ball 12 times for 86 yards and a score and WR Julio Jones caught seven passes for 86 yards and two TDs in the blowout win.

Matchup: Colorado Buffaloes @ Nebraska Cornhuskers
Date: Friday, November 26th, 3:30 ET
Location: Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, NE
Game Line: Nebraska -16.5
Over/Under 50.5

The 9-2 Nebraska Cornhuskers will look to keep their hopes for a BCS at-large bid alive on Friday afternoon when they host the 5-6 Colorado Buffaloes for possibly the last time. The meeting will be bittersweet as there are no plans for the two to continue to play each other after Nebraska moves to the Big 10 next season. Nebraska will look to score a win in their last regular season Big 12 game after falling 9-6 to Texas A&M last week. The Cornhuskers have been the center of controversy during the week after reports that QB Taylor Martinez had quit the team and that DC Carl Pelini had shoved a photographer on the field after the game was over. The hopes of Nebraska's offense rest on Martinez and the status of his ankle as the offense doesn't click unless Martinez is under center. Against the Aggies last week, Martinez was banged up most of the game and put up one of his worst games of the season, completing just 11 of 17 passes for 107 yards and an interception and only managing 17 yards rushing on 11 carries. As for Colorado, the Buffaloes have won back-to-back games since the firing of former HC Dan Hawkins. Colorado got big gains from QB Cody Hawkins and RB Rodney Stewart to top Kansas State 44-36. Hawkins completed 14 or 25 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns while Stewart rushed for 195 yards and two touchdowns while also throwing a 23 yard touchdown pass.

Matchup: Arizona Wildcats @ Oregon Ducks
Date: Friday, November 26th, 7:00 ET
Location: Autzen Stadium, Eugene, OR
Game Line: Oregon -19
Over/Under 62

The 10-0 Oregon Ducks will aim to keep their undefeated season and BCS Title Game berth alive Friday night when they host the 7-3 Arizona Wildcats. College football bettors last saw Oregon two weeks ago when the Ducks squeaked out a narrow 15-13 win over the California Golden Bears. Oregon's offense had their least effective performance of the season in Berkeley, managing just 317 total yards against Cal. QB Darrin Thomas completed 15 of 29 passes for 155 yards and a score in the win, while Heisman Trophy contender LaMichael James could only muster 102 yards on 31 touches. Oregon's previously maligned defense came up huge for the Ducks in the victory, holding Cal to just 193 total yards of offense and completely shutting down the Cal passing attack, with Cal QB Brock Mansion mustering just 69 yards passing on 10 of 28 completions. An Oregon win against Arizona also clinches the Ducks at least the Pac-10 Title and an appearance in the Rose Bowl.

Matchup: Boise State Broncos @ Nevada Wolf Pack
Date: Friday, November 26th, 10:15 ET
Location: Mackay Stadium, Reno, NV
Game Line: Boise State -14
Over/Under 67.5

With a win against the 10-1 Nevada Wolfpack on Friday night, the 10-0 Boise State Broncos will clinch the WAC Title and be one step closer to a potential BCS Title Game bid. QB Kellen Moore is a darkhorse to win the Heisman, but has put up some of the best numbers in the country despite being pulled early in many of his conference games. Last week in their 51-0 drubbing of Fresno State, Moore completed 27 of 38 passes for 333 yards and four touchdowns against one interception. Moore's favorite two target's were again the dynamic duo of WR Austin Pettis and WR Titus Young. Pettis hauled in 10 passes 93 yards and two scores on the evening while Young caught eight balls for 164 yards and two touchdowns. As for Nevada, the Wolfpack has given Boise State all it can handle in their games over the past few seasons. Nevada is led by QB Colin Kaepernick who completed 15 of 27 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns last week against New Mexico State. Kaepernick also added 35 yards rushing and a touchdown on the day. RB Vai Taua carried the ball 22 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a 79 yard touchdown pass in the 52-6 victory over the Aggies.
