Bruins Lead Series 2-0

5DimesUnfortunately for the Rangers, they are about to get a much different story than they had in the first round of the playoffs. They fell behind 2-0 against the Washington Capitals in the opening round, only to storm back and win Games 3, 4, 6, and 7. However, this time around against Boston, they’re finished. We just don’t like what we see right now out of New York. We don’t like the confidence that G Henrik Lundqvist is playing with at the moment. He still has only won three overtime games in his career in the playoffs, and he is coming off of a total dud of a game against the B’s on Sunday in which he allowed five goals, two of which came in a brutal third period. The Rangers do have a real opportunity to at least get back in this series, but we don’t see it happening. The front line for Boston is playing significantly better than the front line of Washington ever was in the first round, and that’s going to make all the difference in the world. Once the Rangers fall behind in this one, we don’t see how they are ultimately going to get back on the horse. Boston is going to take Game 3 of this series and ultimately force New York to the brink of elimination.

Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals takes place on Sunday night, and here at Cappers Info, we have all of the best NHL playoffs picks you’ll find on the internet. The Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers will meet in Game 2 of their playoff series, and we’re going to be giving you the NHL analysis necessary to make your hockey picks on this great game.

NHL Betting Odds: Bruins -125
Rangers vs. Bruins NHL On TV: NBC

Bruins Lead Series 1-0

Bovada NHL PlayoffsBoston has the right idea about how to approach the second round of the playoffs, and the approach isn’t all that different from the one that it had against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the opening round either. The Bruins are going to throw a ton of pucks at the net and see what sticks. Granted, a lot of the 48 shots that were put on G Henrik Lundqvist in Game 1 weren’t all that spectacular, but 16 of those shots came in just over 15 minutes of overtime play, and that was more than good enough to ultimately get the job done. As we saw it, the Bruins were the better of the two teams on the ice, and we are amazed that the oddsmakers don’t see it that way. If you take the value of home ice advantage on a normal night and don’t even consider the additional boost for this being the playoffs, the Bruins should be at least -140 favorites or so, even if they are only considered an equal team to New York. We didn’t see anything “equal” about Game 1, and that tells us that we are on the road to victory a lot more often than not if the Bruins are going to put forth the same type of effort in Game 2.

Rangers vs. Bruins Game 2 Pick: Boston Bruins -125

Series Tied 0-0

5DimesThe Bruins and the Rangers both scored a whopping five goals over the course of their Game 7 triumphs over the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals respectively, and as a result, we are struggling to try to figure out what in the heck the oddsmakers are doing lining this ‘total’ at 5 instead of at 5.5 for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The argument could be made that G Henrik Lundqvist is on fire, and yes, it’s true that he has stopped 64 straight shots in two straight shutouts. However, he was only above average at best in the rest of the games in this series against Washington, and we don’t expect that he is going to be able to slow down a line that generated a whopping 14 goals over the course of seven games for Boston against the Maple Leafs. G Tuukka Rask doesn’t quite look all that right either. He was never really outstanding in the first round against Toronto, and he put the team in a bad spot by allowing goals on four of his 28 shots faced in Game 7 on Monday night. Simply put, the way that these two are playing right now, we have to think there is a decent chance that both will get to at least two goals when push comes to shove. This might be the postseason, but it’s not going to be a total slug fest in all likelihood.

Series Tied 3-3

Bovada NHL PlayoffsThe Capitals and the Rangers really have enjoyed a fantastic series against one another, and this one appropriately is going to come down to this. This has been the best series of the bunch in the Eastern Conference, and the only series that rivals it in the entire postseason is the one that ended last night between the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks. We will surely admit that the fact that G Braden Holtby lost Game 7 last year to the Rangers is a bit scary. However, we also know that G Henrik Lundqvist has his own demons that he has to settle, knowing that he is just 3-10 in his 13 overtime games thus far in his playoff career. Granted, two of those wins came last year against these Caps in the second round of the playoffs. Still, it’s been all about the home team. The home team has won 10 straight playoff games in this series, including all six here in the opening round in 2013. We aren’t afraid of any one player taking over the game, as we haven’t seen much from either LW Alexander Ovechkin (one goal, one assist) or LW Rick Nash (one assist) in this entire series. With that fear out of the way, we default to going back to the home team once again. We have the hunch that Washington has been the better team all season long by the slightest of margins, and the slightest of margins will get it into the second round of the postseason for the second straight year.

Rangers vs. Capitals Game 7 Pick: Washington Capitals

Our Washington Capitals at New York Rangers Game 6 picks are hot from the presses, and here at Cappers Info, we’re presenting our NHL picks and predictions for what should be yet another great Sunday night fight here in the second season.

Game 6 Picks: Washington Capitals at New York Rangers
Date: Sunday, May 12th, 4:30 ET
Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
NHL Betting Odds: Rangers -140
Capitals vs. Rangers NHL On TV: CNBC

Capitals Lead Series 3-2

NHL BookmakerThere hasn’t been a road team win a game yet in this series, and the Capitals are trying to change all of that on Sunday. The last thing they want to do is play Game 6 on Sunday, Game 7 on Monday, and then Game 1 on Wednesday against either the Boston Bruins or the Toronto Maple Leafs. That being said, just winning this series is the first step to be taken, and the team that is going to win this game will be the one that gets the better production out of its stars. LW Alexander Ovechkin has gone three straight games without a point and four straight without a goal after scoring 32 times in the regular season. LW Rick Nash still hasn’t lit the lamp in this series, and he only has a single assist to show for his work. We know that both of these goalies are going to be on point, and if Game 6 is anything like Game 5, it is going to take a stroke of genius or a stroke of luck to win this game. Though both of the games at MSG featured seven goals, we still don’t get the feeling that either team is going to get to three in this one, and if that turns out to be the case, the ‘under’ is once again a winner. As far as the SU winner? It’s far too close to call, but we’ll say that this one goes seven.

Capitals vs. Rangers Game 6 Pick: Under 5
Game 6 Capitals vs. Rangers Predictions: New York 2 – Washington 1

Date: Friday, May 10th, 7:30 ET
Location: Verizon Center, Washington DC

Rangers vs. Capitals NHL On TV: NBC Sports Network

Series Tied 2-2

Bovada NHL PlayoffsThe schedule makers had to know that this was going to be a great series, and we have to think that in all likelihood, this series is going seven games. If that’s the case, there are going to be some tired legs on the ice, and the thought has to be given to the idea of resting some of the regulars for a shift or two here and there, knowing that Game 5, 6, and 7 are going to be played in a span of just four days. If that’s the case, we like the Rangers, as they have been the deeper team in this series. All eyes are on the struggling LW Rick Nash, but what isn’t recognized is the fact that some of the men down on the depth chart such as LW Carl Hagelin have been able to step it up and be superstars with huge stats. The Capitals really haven’t had an answer to C Derek Stepan in this series quite yet, and if they don’t find an answer, they might be in some trouble. We do think that it is entirely possible that this game goes to overtime, and we think that taking the Rangers and the puck line is the right choice to make. Though New York is just 1-4 in the last five games that it has played here at the Verizon Center, all the last three games of this series have been tight in the third period, and all three were decided by exactly one goal.

Rangers vs. Capitals Game 5 Pick: New York Rangers +1.5 (-210)
Rangers at Capitals Score Prediction: Washington 2 – New York 1

Capitals Lead Series 2-1

5DimesGame 3 was one of the stranger games that we have seen here in the playoffs for the Rangers and the Capitals. The two teams both managed 30+ shots on goal, and both managed at least three goals. However, instead of the men that you would normally be thinking of, the ones that were putting the biscuit in the basket were a lot of second and third line players who weren’t figuring upon making a huge impact in this series. C Derick Brassard has been huge for the Rangers, and getting D Marc Staal back in the fold really helped out as well. It was C Derek Stepan who scored the game winning goal late in the third period, a goal that virtually saved the season for the boys from the Big Apple. The games have been tight in this series, and if you take away the second period of Game 1, this really has been a series that could have gone either way. Eight of the last 10 between these two budding rivals have been decided by exactly one goal, and that’s the way that we are going to go on Wednesday night. New York may or may not win this game, but if we take the Caps and the goal and a half start, we know that we should be okay.

Our Washington Capitals at New York Rangers Game 3 picks are hot from the presses, and here at Cappers Info, we’re presenting our NHL picks and predictions for what should be yet another great Monday night fight here in the second season.

Game 3 Picks: Washington Capitals at New York Rangers
Date: Monday, May 6th, 7:30 ET
Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
NHL Betting Odds: Rangers -140
Capitals vs. Rangers NHL On TV: NBC Sports Network

Capitals Lead Series 2-0

NHL BookmakerG Henrik Lundqvist is practically standing on his head at this point in this series, but he isn’t going to be able to win a darn thing in this series if his team isn’t going to score any goals. Lundqvist stopped the first 37 shots that he faced, and in spite of the fact that his team only managed 24 shots in 68 minutes of game time on Saturday in Game 2, he was still in this game. That being said, the 38th shot was the one that got the job done, as the Swede was beaten by D Mike Green on a shot that ricocheted at least once, if not twice on the way to the back of the net. Still, Lundqvist has to be suing for a lack of support. The stars for the Rangers haven’t had any success whatsoever. LW Rick Nash hasn’t gotten a point yet in this series, nor has C Brad Richards, and these were two men that figured to be able to carry this team in the second season this year. The pressure of playing in Madison Square Garden is going to start to mount for sure. In the end, we just don’t know if the Rangers are going to be able to get the job done. Washington is every bit as good of a team as New York is, and the truth of the matter is that we expect it to get out of the Garden with brooms in hand and the Rangers swept away. We have to take the Capitals in this game by a country mile.

Capitals vs. Rangers Game 3 Pick: Washington Capitals +130

Free NHL Playoffs Picks: New York Rangers at Washington Capitals Game 2

Rangers vs. Capitals NHL On TV: NBC

Capitals Lead Series 1-0

Bovada NHL PlayoffsAbout the only way that we see the Rangers get back into this series and knotting things at a game apiece is if G Henrik Lundqvist is at his best. He played incredibly well in Periods 1 and 3 of Game 1 of this series, but what happened in the middle of the game was a horror story. The Swede allowed three pucks to get past him in that stanza, and that was essentially all she wrote for the opening soiree. Lundqvist does have a history of playing well against the Capitals, and he also has a knack for coming up big in the postseason when the rest of his team is faltering. We know that that faltering is going to continue. The frustration on the faces of the Rangers is already apparent, and it isn’t going to get any better when push comes to shove. Washington has the better of these two teams, but we aren’t prepared to bet against Lundqvist in this one. We think that he made a big step in the right direction in a very solid third period against what at times looked like a barrage of shots. The ‘total’ is probably still shaded just a bit too high in this series though, and we think that this one screams of another three- or four-goal effort between the two clubs on Saturday afternoon. This should be playoff hockey at its finest.

Rangers vs. Capitals Game 2 Pick: Under 5
Rangers at Capitals Score Prediction: Washington 2 – New York 1

Our New York Rangers at Washington Capitals Game 1 picks are hot from the presses, and here at Cappers Info, we’re presenting our NHL picks and predictions for what should be yet another great Thursday night fight here in the second season.

Game 1 Picks: New York Rangers at Washington Capitals
Date: Thursday, May 20th, 7:30 ET
Location: Verizon Center, Washington DC
NHL Betting Odds: Capitals -120
Rangers vs. Capitals NHL On TV: NBC Sports Network

Series Tied 0-0

NHL BookmakerWith four meetings in the playoffs over the course of the last five seasons, we know that the Capitals and the Rangers know all about each other. This is going to be a brutal series where there is probably going to be a heck of a lot of chippy play especially early on. New York has the better of these two teams in terms of the talent on the ice, but we know that that doesn’t always translate into victories right out of the chute. The consistent theme in this series should be relatively low scoring games. In the first two days of the playoffs, we haven’t seen a game go beyond five goals yet, and we think that this will be no exception to that rule. We really trust that G Henrik Lundqvist is going to be playing like a Vezina Trophy type of goalie in this series from start to finish, and we know that if he can figure out how to keep LW Alexander Ovechkin relatively quiet, the rest of this Washington offense isn’t all that impressive. More important to us is that G Braden Holtby got a taste of the playoffs last year for the Caps, and he had a degree of success in doing so as well. This is a man that wasn’t as bad as his 2.58 GAA suggests, and he’ll prove it with a GAA right around 2.00 in the second season as we see it. There is no reason to get off of the ‘under’ train here in the open set of games in the playoffs.

Free NHL Picks: New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers
Date: Tuesday, April 16th, 7:30 ET

NHL Betting Odds: Rangers -135
Rangers vs. Flyers NHL On TV: NBC Sports Network

5DimesThe Flyers put together one of their best offensive games on of the season just last night against the Montreal Canadiens, netting seven goals to get the job done. However, this really isn’t a great situation for them to be in at this point. They’re going to be back at home to take on the Rangers, who have absolutely owned this series over the course of the last few years, going 11-1 in the last 12 games. New York has been finding ways to win relatively close games of late, taking a huge shootout victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs followed by a ‘W’ against the hated New York Islanders at the Nassau Coliseum. With those two wins, the Rangers are now in the driver’s seat for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. G Henrik Lundqvist has only allowed two goals in his last two games combined, and very quietly he now has a 2.06 GAA and a .928 save percentage. Needless to say, with numbers like that, he should have a lot more than a 19-14-3 record. We think that the Swedish net minder is going to come up with a big time performance again and send the Flyers back where they belong in the dregs of the Eastern Conference after the slight rising up that we saw in the first game of this back to back in Montreal.

Rangers vs. Flyers Pick: New York Rangers -135

NHL Betting Odds: New York -109
Penguins vs. Rangers NHL On TV: NBC Sports Network

5DimesThis is one that just doesn’t make all that much sense to us. The Penguins are playing a second game in as many nights, while the Rangers did have a day off yesterday, but that’s about where the advantages stop for the boys from the Big Apple. Pittsburgh is playing without C Sidney Crosby, and both LW Brenden Morrow and RW Jarome Iginla are starting to get used to their new surroundings in the Steel City. On top of that, we know that the Rangers are a bit of a mess at the moment. They are one of the most inconsistent scoring teams in hockey, especially of late. The Rangers are just coming off of a stretch of over 128 minutes without scoring a goal. They have had problems defensively as well with D Marc Staal out of the fold with an eye injury. Now, to make matters worse, the team is shuffling around players, with several back liners being sent down to the AHL. RW Ryan Clowe was just acquired and probably won’t be ready for this game. RW Marian Gaborik could also be dealt by the time the puck drops in this one. Now, add into this the fact that Pittsburgh has won seven straight games in this series, and the fact that six of those seven wins have come by exactly three goals. What were the oddsmakers thinking when they lined New York as a favorite? We aren’t all that sure.

Penguins vs. Rangers Pick: Pittsburgh Penguins +102
Penguins at Rangers Score Prediction: Pittsburgh 4 – New York 1
