5Dimes SportsbookOne of my favorite plays on the Week 13 Saturday college football odds pits the Penn State Nittany Lions against the Wisconsin Badgers. These two are going to be meeting at 3:30 p.m. ET at Beaver Stadium, and I’m going to show you which side to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

Wisconsin Badgers (7-4, 5-6 ATS) +2
Penn State Nittany Lions (7-4, 8-2-1 ATS) -2
Over/Under 45.5

I’ve really been a big time supporter of this Penn State club this year, and I think that this final game of the year is going to be one last time to throw my money on the Nittany Lions against one of the better teams in the Big Ten. Simply put, Wisconsin has just significantly more problems right now than the Lions do, and they have a lot more on their minds as a result. Next week is the Big Ten Championship Game, and that is going to mean a lot more than this one in Happy Valley, knowing that the Nebraska Cornhuskers are up next regardless.

RB Montee Ball has been a man on a mission the last few weeks, and he is now the all-time leader in scoring in NCAA history. He has rushed for 1,414 yards this year and has 17 total touchdown, four of which have come in the last two weeks. Ball also has over 190 yards in two straight games. The difference is that he is playing against a Penn State defense has held teams down to just 126.6 yards per game rushing this year.

The Nittany Lions were blown away last year in this game, but prior to that, they had held the Badgers to 16 points or fewer five straight games. I’m not all that sure that they’ll do that again, but they should at least hold Ball down, which should setup a victory at home to send the seniors that stuck around through all of the turmoil that the squad has been through this year with a win.

This is the game in which the Wolfpack are going to prove that they are indeed one of the best teams in the country. They’re going to have the national spotlight on them in this relatively early tip-off, and they get a team that is of the quality that they’ll be facing in the middle of the pack in the ACC for the mass majority of the campaign. Penn State is a team that we like this year with Tim Frazier lighting it up, but we just hate how badly this team played against good squads last year. The Nittany Lions were beaten in each of their final five games, and each loss seemingly got progressively worse as the campaign wore on. Now up comes an NC State team that is one of the most experienced and well-rounded clubs in America. Look for Scott Wood to get his scoring groove going after a dull first game, as the Wolfpack are able to jump out early on the Nittany Lions and never look back. The Pack have gone 9-0-1 ATS on the college basketball odds in their last 10 games. They should make it 10-0-1 ATS in their last 11 when this one is said and done with.

Penn State vs. NC State Prediction: NC State 81 – Penn State 67

The 2012 college football season is back, and here at Cappers Info, we’ll be looking at some of the best games on the docket each and every week, as we try to make the most money possible off of the CFB odds for the week. Join us on Saturday night, as we make our Penn State Nittany Lions @ Nebraska Cornhuskers free picks and predictions for what should be a great clash on the gridiron.

Week 11 College Football Picks: Penn State Nittany Lions @ Nebraska Cornhuskers
Date: Saturday, November 10th, 3:30 ET
Location: Nebraska Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, NE
CFB Betting Odds: Nebraska -7
Penn State @ Nebraska Live TV: ABC/ESPN2

We really like the idea that there are going to be plenty of points in this game when these two meet up in Big Red Country. The Children of the Corn have scored at least 23 points in all of their games this year, and QB Taylor Martinez and the crew are really moving up and down the field with a powerful running attack in tote. Penn State was figured to be a wreck offensively after its first two games of the year, but after losing to the Ohio Bobcats and Virginia Cavaliers, the team has put up an average of over 32 points per game. Plus, we have to remember that it was the kicking game that really failed against Virginia, or the Nittany Lions would have put up at least 25, if not significantly more in that game. This is an offense that should not be rested upon, as QB Mat McGloin is one of the better signal callers in this conference. Don’t be all that shocked if this turns out to be a game where both teams are approaching the 30s, nothing like what we saw when they met last year in the first game of the post-Joe Paterno era at Beaver Stadium.

Penn State @ Nebraska Pick: Over 53.5
Penn State @ Nebraska Score Prediction: Penn State 35 – Nebraska 31

College football betting fans are running to their online sportsbooks to place their Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Penn State bets and predictions, and here at Cappers Info, we are making our Saturday football picks for this encounter.

Week 9 College Football Picks: Ohio State Buckeyes @ Penn State Nittany Lions
Date: Saturday, September 27th, 5:30 ET
Location: Beaver Stadium, University Park, PA
CFB Betting Odds: Pick ‘Em
Ohio State vs. Penn State Live TV: ESPN

History will tell you that the Penn State/Ohio State game is going to be a lower scoring affair. Only Ohio State in 2010 (38) and Ohio State in 2007 (37) have scored more than 24 points in a game in this series since the 1990s, and that’s a huge factor to remember when these two get together on Saturday night. The Buckeyes are going to likely be without QB Braxton Miller, and we already know that their offense came to a terrible halt when that happened last week against Purdue. Penn State has some depth issues as well all across the offense and the defense thanks to the lack of scholarships, and in the end, if there are even any minor injuries that get in the way, the team’s productivity could all of a sudden be stopped. This one could be a good game, but it strikes us that defense is going to be the name of the game when push comes to shove.

Ohio State @ Penn State Pick: Under 50
Ohio State @ Penn State Score Prediction: Penn State 28 – Ohio State 20

College football betting fans are running to their online sportsbooks to place their Northwestern Wildcats vs. Penn State bets and predictions, and here at Cappers Info, we are making our Saturday football picks for this encounter.

Week 6 College Football Picks: Northwestern Wildcats @ Penn State Nittany Lions
Date: Saturday, September 6th, 12:00 ET
Location: Beaver Stadium, University Park, PA
CFB Betting Odds: Penn State -2.5
Northwestern vs. Penn State Live TV: ESPN

The Big Ten has been a nightmare this year, and there would be nothing worse for this conference as a whole than to see Northwestern lose this game on Saturday. The possibility would be there to not see a single team in the conference ranked in the Top 25, which would be a calamity for a conference that has already lost four games to the MAC and three games to Notre Dame this year. The Wildcats are having some identity issues, as they are doing a lot of flipping around of their running backs and quarterback. Penn State meanwhile, is seeming to get a heck of a lot more cohesive as the season is wearing on, and QB Matthew McGloin is really looking like he is one of the best pure passers that the Big Ten has to offer. That’s not saying a whole heck of a lot on the national scheme, but in this game, it should be good enough to win.

Northwestern @ Penn State Pick: Penn State -2.5
Northwestern @ Penn State Score Prediction: Penn State 24 – Northwestern 21

Week 5 pointspreads are out, and here at Cappers Info, we are set to analyze the college football odds for one of the top games on the slate. The Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Illinois Fighting Illini odds are posted, and we are set to make our CFB picks for another great game.

Week 5 College Football Picks: Penn State Nittany Lions @ Illinois Fighting Illini
Date: Saturday, September 29th, 12:00 ET
Location: Memorial Stadium, Champaign, IL
CFB Betting Odds: Penn State -1
Penn State vs. Illinois Live TV: ESPN2

Why the Nittany Lions are on TV every single week is beyond is, but they are, and we’re stuck with it. The bottom line with these two teams is that they have just no offensive skills whatsoever. The two clubs are averaging a combined 723 yards per game this year, and there is just zero confidence whatsoever in either team’s abilities to get up and down the field. Why the ‘total’ in this game is in the 40s and not the 30s is beyond us. Penn State hasn’t scored more than 34 on anyone in this year and hasn’t had a game with more than 41 combined points in it on the campaign. The Illini have played some higher scoring games, but all of the offenses that they have run across (except for that of Charleston Southern) are a heck of a lot better than that of PSU. There’s a reason that there were a total of 17 points in last year’s meeting between these two.

Penn State @ Illinois Pick: Penn State/Illinois Under 42.5
Penn State @ Illinois Score Prediction: Illinois 21 – Penn State 14

Week 4 pointspreads are out, and here at Cappers Info, we are set to analyze the college football odds for one of the top games on the slate. The Temple Owls vs. Penn State Nittany Lions odds are posted, and we are set to make our CFB picks for another great game.

Week 4 College Football Picks: Temple Owls @ Penn State Nittany Lions
Date: Saturday, September 22nd, 3:30 ET
Location: Beaver Stadium, University Park, PA
CFB Betting Odds: Penn State -7
Temple vs. Penn State Live TV: ABC/ESPN2

There’s a lot of bad news if you’re expecting to see a great game on Saturday in Happy Valley. Points should be a premium with two teams that just don’t have all that much to bring to the table offensively. Temple ranks No. 122 in the land in passing at just 119.5 yards per game, though it does have a decent rushing attack with RB Matt Brown carrying the load. Of course, the problem that the Owls have is that they haven’t won a game against Penn State since 1941, and they have lost every single game that the two teams have played since tying the Nittany Lions in 1950. It’s just not a good spot for either team to be in at the moment. As much as we hate this Penn State team, we dislike this Temple team just as much. Can these two figure out how to get to 44 points? It’s going to be insanely difficult, and it doesn’t feel like it is going to happen more often than not.

Temple @ Penn State Pick: Temple/Penn State Under 43
Temple @ Penn State Score Prediction: Penn State 20 – Temple 16

Of all of the games on the Saturday 9/15 college football betting schedule, one of my favorite is the clash between the Navy Midshipmen and the Penn State Nittany Lions. Join me for my Week 3 tips for this 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff that can be seen on ESPN.

Navy Midshipmen (0-1, 0-1 ATS) +7
Penn State Nittany Lions (0-2, 1-1 ATS) -7
Over/Under 47.5

Many would probably think that I was crazy for playing this Penn State/Navy game, but I really have a great feeling that this is the game that the Nittany Lions are going to come out and obliterate the Middies to pick up their first victory of the Bill O’Brien era.

Navy had a week off after the trip to Dublin, and it’s a good thing, as the team really needed to lick its wounds after getting absolutely whooped by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Penn State looked a lot better last week against the Virginia Cavaliers in a game that it really should have won if it had a field goal kicker. It is just a part of the growing pains from a program that has had a ton of players just leave the team after the whole Jerry Sandusky scandal. QB Matt McGloin hasn’t played all that poorly, and when the ground game is functional, it is still suitable. Penn State also has a defense that still has a lot of talent on it, and the speed should be able to slow down the triple option.

The Middies are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games played on grass, and though Penn State has all sorts of awful ATS marks going against it, I think that this is more important to go ahead and back the Nittany Lions while they are down than to worry about what those ATS trends suggest.

Navy @ Penn State Tips: Penn State -7

The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Virginia Cavaliers are going to square off in Week 2 of the college football betting campaign. Join us here at Cappers Info, as we make our predictions for football for what should be a great game on Saturday.

Week 2 College Football Picks: Penn State Nittany Lions @ Virginia Cavaliers
Date: Saturday, September 8th, 12:00 ET
Location: Scott Stadium, Charlottesville, VA
CFB Betting Odds: Virginia -9.5
Penn State vs. Virginia Live TV: ABC

What we learned last week is that the Nittany Lions just don’t have the depth of some of the other great programs in this country. When injuries started to happen, gone went the 14-3 lead that they amassed. Sure, PSU has a team that is good enough to win this game, but we think that it is a demoralized club that is on its way to a 3-9 season or so. Remember that last year, the Cavaliers were able to go into Tallahassee and beat Florida State, and they nearly won their share of the ACC as a result. QB Michael Rocco, once considered a stiff that had to come in and play as a freshman for a bad team, is now a sophomore that has amassed a lot of games under his belt, and he is looking better and better as the years go by. Don’t kid yourself. This is a pointspread that is absolutely legitimate. The Nittany Lions shouldn’t really stand all that much of a chance of going on the road and competing in this game. Getting this one into single digits was enough for us for sure.

Penn State @ Virginia Pick: Virginia Cavaliers -9.5
Penn State @ Virginia Score Prediction: Penn State 27 – Virginia 23

Week 1 pointspreads are out, and here at Cappers Info, we are set to analyze the college football odds for one of the top games on the slate. The Ohio Bobcats vs. Penn State Nittany Lions odds are posted, and we are set to make our CFB picks for another great game.

Week 1 College Football Picks: Ohio Bobcats @ Penn State Nittany Lions
Date: Saturday, September 1st, 12:00 ET
Location: Beaver Stadium, University Park, PA
CFB Betting Odds: Penn State -6
Ohio vs. Penn State Live TV: ESPN

Joe Paterno is no longer here, and the scandal that has rocked Penn State is theoretically complete. The football team knows that it is going to have a long, uphill battle over the course of the next several years, but it has to be a motivated bunch to get back out on the field and try to prove the rest of the world wrong. The first foe on the docket is a game Ohio team, which really has the chance to bust the BCS this year if it can run the table. This is going to be a tough game, though. Perhaps later in the season, we would want to back the Bobcats, but right now, for the very first game played in Beaver Stadium for Head Coach Tom O’Brien, in front of 100,000 screaming Nittany Lions chanting “We Are!” “Penn State!” at the tops of their lungs, we just can’t deny the hosts. They’ll find some way to win this one by at least a full touchdown.

Ohio @ Penn State Pick: Penn State -6
Ohio @ Penn State Score Prediction: Penn State 23 – Ohio 13

It’s going to be odd to see the Houston Cougars and Penn State Nittany Lions share the same field, but that’s what they will do on January 2nd in the first college football game of 2012 when the two try to beat the Ticket City Bowl odds in Dallas.

Ticket City Bowl Matchup: Houston Cougars vs. Penn State Nittany Lions

Ticket City Bowl Odds: Houston -7
Ticket City Bowl Total: 56.5
Ticket City Bowl TV Coverage: ESPNU

There is only one bowl game this year that isn’t on national television of some sort, and it seems like it is a shame that that game is the one that is the final in the career of QB Case Keenum. Keenum already has three seasons of at least 5,000 passing yards and has over 18,000 yards in his career, and he is going to hope to go out with a 13th win in his senior season. Keenum’s offense is out of this world, ranking No. 1 in the nation at a shade under 600 yards per game, and he is leading the only offense in America that is scoring over 50 points per game. Both WR Patrick Edwards and WR Justin Johnson are already over 1,000 receiving yards on the season, and WR Tyron Carrier could get there as well if he has 86 receiving yards in this game.

Of course the big question is how the Nittany Lions are going to fare in this one. The team is surely going to be conflicted in this one with all of the ridiculous off the field issues that are going on. The normal team wouldn’t be able to overcome losing a head coach during the season, especially when that head coach is the legendary Joe Paterno. The Jerry Sandusky scandal would rock any university to the core. However, To make matters worse, the team’s starting quarterback, QB Matt McGloin was involved in a locker room fight with one of his wide receivers and ended up in the hospital because of it with a concussion. He is going to be up in the air for this game until game time.

The real question in this one is going to be whether the Penn State defense, which was one of the best units in the Big Ten this year, is really capable of slowing down this pass happy offense. Historically, we haven’t really seen the Cougars or offenses that are similar in nature really be able to move the ball up and down the field against these BCS teams, and the fact that the Southern Miss Golden Eagles were able to really keep this unit down at MM Roberts Stadium in the Conference USA Championship Game worries us.

What we have seen a lot over the course of the last few weeks is that the Nittany Lions have played with a ton of heart. They haven’t given up even though their season could have been a certified train wreck, and we tend to think, even if McGloin doesn’t end up playing, that they have the ability to beat this Houston club even though the game is basically a home game. The offense for Penn State will have had over a month to try to move the ball on the Houston defense, and if UCLA could score 34 against this team at the outset of the season and both Louisiana Tech and Rice were able to duplicate the task (and UTEP score 42), there is no doubt that the Nittany Lions will find their way on the scoreboard. If the defense holds up, we tend to think that PSU can walk away with a victory in the Ticket City Bowl.

The great Head Coach Urban Meyer is set to step away from the Florida Gators this year after the conclusion of the Outback Bowl. However, standing in his way are going to be Head Coach Joe Paterno and the Penn State Nittany Lions, who are no strangers to the big upset against SEC teams in bowl games.

Outback Bowl Matchup: Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Florida Gators
Date: Saturday, January 1st, 1:00 ET
Location: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay, FL
Outback Bowl Line: Florida -7
Over/Under 48

Nittany Lions Notes: This wasn't the prettiest season for the Nittany Lions, but Joe Pa knew that this was going to be a tough season now that QB Darryl Clark was gone. He elected to start for true freshman QB Robert Bolden, but after a tough offensive stretch to the year, he changed his mind and went to sophomore QB Matt McGloin. McGloin threw for 312 and 315 yards in his last two games of the regular season, and he accounted for 1,337 yards and 13 TDs in his handful of appearances. WR Derek Moye had a great third season here in Happy Valley, catching 48 passes for 806 yards and seven TDs, all of which were team highs. This is the final game in the illustrious career of RB Evan Royster, the school's top rusher of all-time. Royster wasn't the Heisman Trophy candidate that the Nittany Lions were hoping for this year, but he did throw for 916 yards and six TDs on the campaign. This defense only allowed 347.5 yards and 22.6 points per game this year, numbers which were great considering the fact that the Big Ten was so strong this year.

Gators Notes: After a pair of BCS National Championships and countless memorable seasons, it looks as though this is the end of the line for Coach Meyer, who will step away and leave the program under the direction of new Head Coach Will Muschamp in 2011. It's also the final game for Offensive Coordinator Steve Adazio, who is heading to the Temple Owls to be their head coach when this one is done with. QB John Brantley might be leaving as well, as he is a young man that just didn't work at this university. He's not QB Tim Tebow, and he isn't the man that he caused to transfer away from Gainesville either… some man name QB Cam Newton. Brantley threw for just 2,020 yards and nine scores on the season. He was a massive disappointment this year, just as RB Jeff Demps was. Demps has explosive speed, but he just doesn't look the same without Tebow in there handing him the ball. He rushed for just 531 yards in 2010. WR Chris Rainey was suspended for half of the season, and as a result, he really never put forth some great numbers either, rushing for 300 yards and catching 22 passes for 198 yards. The defense for UF was the key this year. When it held teams under 30 points, it went undefeated this season. Allowing 294.8 yards per game was great, but without DB Janoris Jenkins, a four year starter, playing is his last game as a senior, UF could be in some trouble.

The Final Word: The Gators seem to be the consensus pick here, but we're really not all that sure. They're not in great shape in this game with a slew of injuries, and the Nittany Lions do have some confidence having beaten the LSU Tigers last year in the Capital One Bowl on New Year's Day. McGloin has this Penn State offense moving, and if PSU can put just a few scores on the board, the 'D' might be able to lead the way to victory in a big upset.
