MLB Betting Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
Atlanta Braves (Julio Teheran) +105
San Francisco Giants (Ryan Vogelsong) -117
Total: 7.5

RHP Julio Teheran is a man that we are going to continue to fade until he loses at this point. The righty has led the Braves to wins in all five of his starts this year, but when you look at what he has accomplished, he is only 1-0 with a 5.08 ERA and a dreadful 1.66 WHIP. Teheran has allowed at least six hits in all of his starts on the season, and he pitches to a ton of contact, which isn’t going to sit well against a San Francisco team that has a huge ballpark with which to be hitting in. His foe for the night is RHP Ryan Vogelsong, who is going to have to get back into form at some point. These last few seasons, Vogelsong really has looked sharp, and he basically has resurrected his career in San Fran. However, through six starts this season, the righty is 1-2 with a 7.20 ERA, and he has allowed a total of 17 runs in his last three starts. The Braves did just take two out of three from the Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ball Park, but the Giants have won seven of their last nine games and are streaking. We want the defending World Series champions on our side, especially only just barely laying any chalk whatsoever against a team and a pitcher that we think could be overrated through just a fifth of the season.

MLB Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
Los Angeles Dodgers (Hyun-Jin Ryu) -135
San Francisco Giants (Matt Cain) +125
Total: 6.5

It’s a bit shocking to us to see how the Dodgers are actually the road favorites in this game by a relatively comfortable margin. The oddsmakers clearly don’t have all that much confidence in RHP Matt Cain. Granted, we know that Cain has been atrocious this season, posting an ERA of nearly 6.50, and he has allowed nine home runs in his last four starts combined. To put that in comparison, the righty allowed nine home runs in his entire 2011 season. That’s why RHP Hyun-Jin Ryu is the favorite in this one. Ryu has been remarkable over the course of the first six starts of his career, and he is unlucky to have a single loss to his credit. The righty has arguably been the best rookie in the league this year, and there is no doubt that he is going to be in the running on the Rookie of the Year voting this year. Here’s the issue that we have with Ryu: He has never faced the same team twice. We think that asking these two teams to be held under three runs apiece is going to be a difficult challenge. Go with the ‘over’ on Sunday Night Baseball.

The 2013 MLB betting season is off and running here at Cappers Info, and we are set to make more of our patented MLB picks for one of our favorite times of year. On Wednesday night, the San Francisco Giants will be led onto the field by Tim Lincecum, as they play host to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who will be countering with Josh Beckett. The first pitch from Dodger Stadium is set to be thrown out at 10:10 p.m. ET

MLB Odds & Probable Starting Pitchers
San Francisco Giants (Tim Lincecum) +112
Los Angeles Dodgers (Josh Beckett) -117
Total: 6.5

The Giants had a disastrous day to open up the season at Dodger Stadium, getting shut out 4-0 in what proved to be a complete game shutout for LHP Clayton Kershaw. The lineup for the Dodgers really does look to be awfully impressive, and we feel as though they have the advantage once again on Wednesday night in spite of the fact that “The Freak” is on the mound. LHP Tim Lincecum made a name for himself as a relief pitcher in the playoffs, and we aren’t all that sure how he is going to react to getting back in a starter’s role. Of course, RHP Josh Beckett is always a man that is a mystery each and every time that he is out there on the bump, as he could be in for one of these years where he goes 21-6 with a 2.50 ERA, or 9-12 with a 5.50 ERA. Beckett kept the ball down last year in his seven starts for the Dodgers after getting traded from Boston, and we have to think that he is going to be in a heck of a lot better shape now than he was in when he was with the Red Sox at the end of his career. We trust that the righty will be able to put forth another strong effort on the mound on Wednesday, leading LA to another win over the defending World Series champs.

MLB Playoffs On TV: FOX

Our 2012 MLB playoffs picks continue on Sunday night in Detroit, where the Detroit Tigers battle it out with the San Francisco Giants. Join us for our MLB predictions for what should be a remarkable Game 4 of the World Series.

Detroit now faces the dubious and seemingly impossible task of coming back from down 0-3 in the World Series to make matters close once again, and we think that it will at least cast the shadow of doubt in the minds of the Giants on Sunday night. Remember that the team came close to getting some runs on the board, and it might only take one clutch hit to turn the tide of this entire series. Luck has been on the side of the Giants in every crucial spot, and though they have clearly been the better team with the better pitching staff, that doesn’t mean that they are guaranteed to just close this one out without resistance, especially on the road.

We faded Matt Cain the last time that he was on the mound because he looked tired, and though he did pitch 5.2 scoreless innings in a 9-0 win, he still didn’t get through the sixth. There is a great chance that, in spite of his sparkling record and ERA this year, that Cain could get blasted at some point if he starts leaving balls up in the zone, especially against this high flying offense.

We also really like what Max Scherzer is bringing to the table in this game. The flame throwing righty has 18 strikeouts in just 11 innings of work here in the playoffs, and though he isn’t going to be expected to throw more than six innings or so, you know that those frames are going to include a lot of fastballs and a ton of strikes. The bullpen really hasn’t been the major problem for the Tigers, so we don’t feel like leaving the ball for the men in the back end of the staff will do much to hurt their chances on Sunday night. This might ultimately be nothing more than a consolation win, but we think that it will be a win more often than not nonetheless.

MLB Playoffs On TV: FOX

Our 2012 MLB playoffs picks continue on Saturday night in Detroit, where the Detroit Tigers battle it out with the San Francisco Giants. Join us for our MLB predictions for what should be a remarkable Game 3 of the World Series.

The Tigers have to be scratching their heads right now, as they really don’t know what they are going to be able to do against the Giants in this series to figure out how to get back in it. Sure, you play the games one at a time, but when you just keep putting bagel after bagel up on the scoreboard, it has to kill your morale, especially of your pitching staff, which knows that it just cannot make a mistake.

For the third time in this series, the Tigers really feel like they are going to have the pitching advantage. Anibal Sanchez is coming off of the best and most important outing of his career (aside from his no hitter) when he threw seven scoreless innings in Game 2 of the ALCS against the New York Yankees. Just one problem with that: That was 13 days ago. All of the rest of the Detroit pitchers have at least shown a bit of rust thus far in the Fall Classic, and that was the problem last year against the Texas Rangers in the ALCS after sweeping the Yankees as well.

And then there’s Ryan Vogelsong, who could be argued as baseball’s version of Tim Tebow. All this guy does is win. He doesn’t blaze it up there at 95 MPH. His curve isn’t 9 to 5. His change isn’t electric. He’s just a decent pitcher that is figuring out how to win games left and right. And in the end, that’s truly what matters. Forget that Vogelsong went 13-9 in the regular season. Look at the fact that he led the team to a 19-12 record. In the postseason, he has allowed just a total of three runs in 19 innings. Those are great numbers regardless of how well you’re really pitching. And in the end, Vogelsong should do what he does best. In the words of the late Al Davis: Just win, baby.

World Series Game 2 Baseball Picks
Detroit Tigers
vs.
San Francisco Giants

Date: Thursday, October 25th, 8:00 ET
Location: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
MLB Betting Odds: Detroit -120
MLB Playoffs On TV: FOX

The World Series continues with Game 2 on Thursday, and that means that we are going to be making our baseball picks and playoff predictions for the game between the San Francisco Giants and the Detroit Tigers.

Pablo Sandoval is a hero. For a team that hit just 31 home runs at home all season long according to ESPN’s Jayson Stark, the Giants got three homers from their Panda in one game against the man that very well could end up being the best pitcher of our generation. It was a shock to see San Francisco run Justin Verlander out of Game 1 after just four completed frames, and now, there is a real concern as to whether Detroit is going to be able to get off of the mat and back into this series before leaving for Motown.

The best news is that the pitching matchup really does favor the Tigers on Thursday night, and that’s why they are favored on the World Series odds in this game. Doug Fister has pitched tremendously well over the course of the first two games here in the playoffs, and he has led his team to a pair of victories in as many starts. Meanwhile, the Giants only have five losses over the course of the postseason, and two of them are thanks to Madison Bumgarner, who is going to take the ball on Thursday night.

Though Bumgarner has pitched poorly, we do have to remember a very telling fact. The righty led his team to a 19-13 record in the regular season this year, and this is why he is in the rotation and not Tim Lincecum. Meanwhile, though Fister has pitched well of late, the Tigers only went 13-13 in his 26 starts this year. All things told, this really seems to add up to a game in which the Giants should be favored by a -130 margin or so, so getting +112 seems like a massive gift.

The 2012 World Series continue on Wednesday in San Francisco, where the San Francisco Giants and the Detroit Tigers are going to do battle with one another. Don’t miss our MLB playoff picks and our Tigers vs. Giants Game 1 World Series predictions for the baseball playoffs!

The Tigers are simply the team that has to be backed in Game 1 of the World Series, having absolutely zero to do with the fact that they have the better lineup or the better bullpen. It has nothing to do with the fact that San Francisco is tired or that there is no way that Barry Zito is going to be able to pitch another 7.2 scoreless innings like he did against the St. Louis Cardinals five days ago in Game 5 of the NLCS.

It’s all about Justin Verlander. Simply put, this man is unbeatable right now. He has taken the ball seven times since September 14th, and he has seven wins to show for his word. Verlander has pitched at least seven innings in all but one of those starts, and he has allowed a grand total of five runs, four of which have been earned. He has issued just 11 walks and 34 hits in 52.1 innings of work, and he has 52 strikeouts in that time. In case you’re wondering, we’ve done the math for you. That’s seven starts, a 7-0 record, a 0.69 ERA, a 0.86 WHIP, and a K/9 of 8.94. Ho hum.

It’s just too good. It doesn’t matter who Verlander has faced. It just hasn’t mattered. He pitched a complete game shutout against Oakland, and he followed that by nearly going the distance and holding the Yankees to just one run and three hits. He blanked the Twins, shut down the A’s, threw seven donuts up against the Tribe… it just doesn’t matter. Verlander is just that good. And we absolutely have to back him on Wednesday night under every circumstance.

NLCS Game 7 Baseball Picks

vs.
San Francisco Giants

Date: Monday, October 22nd, 8:00 ET
Location: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
MLB Betting Odds: San Francisco -140
MLB Playoffs On TV: FOX

The NLCS continues with Game 7 on Monday, and that means that we are going to be making our baseball picks and playoff predictions for the game between the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals.

What an amazing six games we have seen thus far in this series! We haven’t quite seen that vintage extra innings game that has us all on the edges of our seats, but we might be right there tonight when these two teams square off for the seventh and final time here at AT&T Park.

We have to give the Giants all of the credit in the world. They could have easily just dropped off the face of the earth after losing Game 4 to fall behind the Cards 3-1 in this race to four wins. Their bats looked dead, their best arms were already depleted and beaten, and there was still another game to win just to get back home for two more must win games. The hardest two steps have been completed. Now though, is the chance for Matt Cain to make himself a hero in San Francisco baseball history, as he will get the ball on Monday night for one of the biggest starts of his entire career.

Kyle Lohse is going to be the man on the mound in this one for the Cardinals, but does it really matter? St. Louis is the team that just keeps finding ways to win. If this team could beat Kris Medlen and beat Gio Gonzalez after falling behind 6-0 with both games coming on the road, why couldn’t it ultimately end up winning Game 7 after losing two games and generating no offense whatsoever in those games? The Cards have historically made no sense whatsoever in the last two seasons, and that’s why we are backing them to find some way to get to the World Series and once again celebrate on someone else’s home field.

The NLCS continues with Game 6 on Sunday, and that means that we are going to be making our baseball picks and playoff predictions for the game between the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Giants might have kept their season alive, but that doesn’t mean that they are out of the woods nearly yet. This is a tough game to pick up a victory in, and more often than not, this will probably be the end of the road in spite of the fact that they are in front of their hometown crowd.

We really just don’t like this pitching matchup for the G-Men when push comes to shove. Ryan Vogelsong has pitched a couple of good games here in the playoffs, but he just doesn’t seem to be the man that we want to see on the hill with the entire season on the line. Meanwhile, the other man that is going to be hurling on Sunday night is Chris Carpenter. You would think that we would have a big problem with Carpenter, knowing that he hasn’t thrown more than six innings in a game yet this year. However, this is a man that has pitched in some huge games over the course of his career, including throwing a complete game shutout in the final game of last regular season to pitch the Cards into the second season.

On top of that, we just don’t trust the whole situation with the Giants. The bats still seem to be more inconsistent, the bullpen arms are all over the place, and in general, they don’t feel like the team that should be headed to the World Series, especially knowing that two games in a row are going to have to be won to get there from this point. It feels like San Fran gave everything that it had to win Game 5, and at this point, we feel like there is at least a 50/50 shot that St. Louis ends up claiming a victory and punching its ticket to the Fall Classic.

The 2012 MLB playoffs continue on Thursday in St. Louis, where the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants are going to do battle with one another. Don’t miss our MLB playoff picks and our Giants vs. Cardinals Game 4 NLCS predictions for the baseball playoffs!

For the second time this series, the Cardinals have pulled ahead of the Giants, and for the second time, the Giants are going to try to fight right back to take back control of the series and ensure that this soiree is going to go back to the Bay Area this weekend.

It’s going to be a tough pitching matchup for sure for both of these teams, as there are a lot of question marks surrounding both men. Adam Wainwright was trusted with the baseball in the biggest game of the season, Game 5 of the NLDS against the Washington Nationals, and he really screwed the pooch, allowing six runs in just 2.1 innings before getting the hook. He’s back out there for the first time in this series, and he is going to be facing Tim Lincecum, who is going to be making his first start of the playoffs tonight. Lincecum has been great in relief, but he was a lousy starter all year long. He never made up for that atrocious start to the season, and he never looked like a man that has Cy Young potential and the awards to back it up.

In the end, this is going to be a close series throughout, and we would be crazy to think that the Cardinals are going to win this game more than perhaps 55% of the time. That means that we have to take the Giants and their “Freak” and hope for the best out of Lincecum, or the worst for a second straight start out of Wainwright. Either way, we still think this is a game that could come down to just one swing of the bat or one single pitch.

MLB Playoffs On TV: FOX

Our 2012 MLB playoffs picks continue on Wednesday night in St. Louis, where the St. Louis Cardinals battle it out with the San Francisco Giants. Join us for our MLB predictions for what should be a remarkable Game 3 of the ALCS.

The Cardinals and the Giants were statistically quite level over the course of the first two games of this series, as both went on their offensive explosions in just a few innings and generally were shut down aside from that. This could be a very similar game to discuss, knowing that both of these starting pitchers for tonight’s Game 3 are going to be dealing for sure.

But there is a real question as to whether Matt Cain is still ready to go for the rest of the playoffs. He has looked tired over the course of his first two games in the postseason, and he is leaving balls up in the zone and getting them blasted. He has allowed three home runs and has had two very short outings, though we must admit that it isn’t like his numbers are ghastly. Kyle Lohse has been the better of the two over the course of the start of the second season, and Lohse has pitched in more pressure packed situations. He threw seven flat out awesome frames against the Washington Nationals in Game 4 of the NLDS, and he arguably outpitched one of the best pitchers from the second half of the season, Kris Medlen in the Wild Card Game against the Atlanta Braves.

There really is no sign of Lohse slowing down, and we have to remember that he has still only been beaten three times over the course of this whole season. Cain probably has the more talent of the two of these men, but weary arms at this point over the course of the playoffs tend to get beaten. Especially with this game being here in St. Louis, it is definitely advantage Cardinals.

Our 2012 MLB playoffs picks continue on Friday night in St. Louis, where the St. Louis Cardinals battle it out with the San Francisco Giants. Join us for our MLB predictions for what should be a remarkable Game 5 of the ALCS.

The Cardinals are on the verge of the World Series for the second straight year, and they are massive favorites to get the job done right here in front of their hometown crowd. If that turns out to be the case, they’ll end up hosting five consecutive games in the postseason, as Games 1 and 2 of the World Series are also going to be played here at Busch Stadium.

It’s not the friendliest pitching matchup in the world for either side though, and it is a bit surprising that the ‘total’ has come in so low at just 7.5. Remember that both teams have had one game with at least seven runs and one game with at least four in this series, and the idea of Lance Lynn and Barry Zito doing the starting with two bullpens that could be quite tired just doesn’t do it for us. Lynn was a wreck in Game 1 of this series, and even though the Cards did walk away with a 6-4 victory and never trailed in the game, the righty didn’t even make it long enough in the game to qualify for the win, as he lasted just 3.2 innings. Zito hasn’t pitched in nine days, and the hope is that the rest is doing well for him in this must-win game for the Giants.

In the end, the key stat is that the G-Men have won 12 straight games when Zito has been starting. The lefty hasn’t always been at his best, but he has done a good job of protecting leads. It’ll take a few runs to be scored tonight, but if the Giants can get to five, they should be able to stretch this series back to the Bay Area for Games 6 and 7 over the weekend.
