Euro 2012 YTD Record: 7-6-11 (-$825)

Euro 2012 Quarterfinals Fixture: Czech Republic vs. Portugal
Date: Thursday, June 21st, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: National Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

This is a really nice spot for the Portuguese to be in. We really think that the Czech Republic has been good over the course of the last two games, but wins over Poland and Greece just don’t do it for us the same way that a 4-1 loss to Russia really turned us off. Remember that Russia is the only even somewhat comparable team that the Czechs have played to what they will see in this match. Cristiano Ronaldo looks like a man on a mission right now, and he is coming off of a two-goal game against the Netherlands to put his team in the second round of this tournament. There could be some offense in this one for sure, and that means that Petr Cech is going to have to be at his best. He has been good of late over the course of these last two matches, but there have been some major miscues that have led to goals against. If that turns out to be the case in this one, we just don’t know if, when push comes to shove, the Czech Republic can survive. Even when Portugal lost to Germany, it didn’t necessarily look all that bad, especially knowing that the Germans were the only side to take all nine points out of their first three matches. Go with Portugal to advance in style.

Euro 2012 Pick: Portugal 3-Way (-120)

Euro 2012 Quarterfinals Fixture: Germany vs. Greece
Date: Friday, June 22nd, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: PGE Arena
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

Do you believe in miracles? The Greeks were able to win Euro 2004 by playing in these particularly nervy 1-0 games over and over again. Eke out a goal here and there, and go into a bunker and hope for the best. We can absolutely guarantee that that is what we are going to see against Germany, arguably the best team on the planet right now. Matters really are stacked against Greece in this one, knowing that its captain, Giorgos Karagounis is going to be suspended for this match thanks to an accumulation of yellow cards. The Germans are great, and as we mentioned earlier, they are the only team in this tournament to snare three wins in a row, but they have had their holes. To think that they are favored by a goal and a half just doesn’t sit all that well with us. It’s going to be easy to go against the Greeks, but in the end, if they were able to find a way to scratch out a 1-0 victory against Russia, there’s no reason not to believe that they at least can’t get an 0-1 defeat against the Germans. This could be a match that surprisingly ends up going down to the wire when push comes to shove.

Euro 2012 Pick: Greece +1.5 (-135)

Euro 2012 Quarterfinals Fixture: Spain vs. France
Date: Saturday, June 23rd, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Donbass Arena
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN2

Is there any way that we really see France and Spain combining for three goals in this match? Opportunities are going to be few and far between when push comes to shove in all likelihood, and that has pretty much been the M.O. in the fixtures for La Roja in their championship past. The French were just downright awful against Sweden in their last match offensively, and they don’t have a heck of a lot of offense to show for their work from Group C. Samir Nasri seems to be the best offensive option that Les Bleus have, but if he is going to be chasing after the Spaniards, who love to control the ball in the center of the pitch, it is going to be difficult to get him going. We just don’t have all that much confidence in Fernando Torres, who did score two goals against Ireland but was atrocious in Spain’s first match against Italy, its biggest match to date. That’s why we think that this match has a heck of a lot better chance having either no goals or one goal than it does having three, four, or more.

Euro 2012 Pick: Spain/France Under 2 (+105)

Euro 2012 Quarterfinals Fixture: England vs. Italy
Date: Sunday, June 17th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Kiev Olympic Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

Both of these teams are just darn talented, though both know that they probably aren’t going to be playing up to their expected level for the rest of this tournament. England is starting to get healthy, and Wayne Rooney is back in the fold and is already off to mark with just one appearance now in Euro 2012. Italy was able to get three points from Ireland and has to be beaming with confidence just for getting into the second stage of a tournament that it nearly pulled out of just days before it got underway. Though we wouldn’t really be shocked at any outcome, we are going to go with the Three Lions in 90 minutes at a pick ‘em, as we just don’t really believe that the Italians can win this match in normal time all that often. Still, if this one goes into penalties, we know that this is where the Brits have struggled in the past. The longer the match goes on in close quarters, the better shape that Italy is going to be in. That being said, if there is an edge to be had in the first 90, it will belong to England.

Euro 2012 Pick: England pk (-105)

Group A Euro 2012 Fixture: Czech Republic vs. Poland
Date: Saturday, June 16th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Stadion Miejski (Wroclaw)
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN2

The Czechs were able to get themselves back into contention in Group A very quickly four nights ago against Greece, coming out of the blocks to score two goals, holding on to knock off the Greeks and to get into second place in this very tight group. In the end though, this looks all too familiar of a situation for this team. Four years ago, the Czech Republic was right on the verge of the quarterfinals of Euro 2008. They were up two goals on Turkey and needed at least a draw to force a penalty shootout that would have determined which team would have gotten through to the second stage of the competition. However, in the final 15 minutes, there were three goals allowed by Petr Cech. This looks really, really creepy as far as we’re concerned. Poland is a team that is good enough to get the job done, and it really has looked like the better side at times in this tournament in spite of the fact that it has been outclassed by both of the teams that it has faced. Don’t be shocked if in the end though, it is Polska that ends up getting into the second round of this tournament with a shocking win, one which would be remarkable for the host nation and a crushing blow for the Czechs.

Euro 2012 Pick: Poland 3-Way (+130)

Group A Euro 2012 Fixture: Greece vs. Russia
Date: Saturday, June 16th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: National Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

The Greeks know that they have just one possibility here. They need to win to stay alive in this tournament. Anything less, and they’ll be headed home. Russia is in good shape right now, knowing that a point will be good enough. A loss might even still keep this team alive should the Czechs and the Poles draw. Alan Dzagoev has had a remarkable tournament, but he might be on a relatively short leash, knowing that he already has one yellow card for dissent in this tournament. A second would cause him to be suspended for the quarterfinals. Keep an eye on Andray Arshavin to come out of the woodwork to score his first goal of this match. However, in the end, Greece is a disciplined team and will surely fight hard to stay alive in this tourney. We don’t know if the Greeks will get the job done, but we do think that they are going to be able to at least manage a point. Taking the half goal is a good idea even though Greece is severely outclassed.

Euro 2012 Pick: Greece +0.5 (+110)

Group B Euro 2012 Fixture: Portugal vs. Netherlands
Date: Sunday, June 17th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Metalist Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

Offense should be the name of the game for the Dutch and the Portuguese on Sunday afternoon at Metalist Stadium. The Portuguese have had a significantly better go of it thus far in this tournament, finding a way to eke out three points against Denmark after a match that ended in a dull 1-0 defeat against Germany. The Dutch are still looking for their first point of this tournament, and they only have a single goal to show for it. The time is going to come for sure that this team is going to be in for an explosion, and the sometimes suspect Portuguese defense might be just the group to give up all of those goals. Don’t be shocked if there are five or six on the board by the time this one is said and done with.

Euro 2012 Pick: Portugal/Netherlands Over 2.5 (-115)

Group B Euro 2012 Fixture: Denmark vs. Germany
Date: Sunday, June 17th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Arena Lviv
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN2

Barring a collapse of epic proportions, the Germans will be in the second round of Euro 2012, and they should end up winning the group. The question though, is whether or not they are going to be going for broke to be able to get the point (or the full three points) to win Group B and to keep momentum going into the quarterfinals. We do tend to believe that they are going to be the ones to take this group come hell or high water, but we aren’t ones to give up on the Danes. They were able to fight back from down 2-0 to draw level with the Portguese on Wednesday, but they gave up the late goal that they were never able to get back in the dying moments. We’ll take our chances with Denmark and the half ball in this one.

Euro 2012 Pick: Denmark +0.5 (+120)

Group C Euro 2012 Fixture: Croatia vs. Spain
Date: Monday, June 18th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: PGE Arena
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

Are you a believer in a good conspiracy theory? We certainly are. If Croatia and Spain draw 2-2 or more (or 3-3, 4-4, or 14-14 for all we care), both teams are going to be through to the second round of this tournament. Spain would win the group, while Croatia will be the team that ends up finishing second just in front of Italy. Eight years ago, Denmark and Sweden ended up drawing 2-2 in a very similar situation in which the Italians were irate. Now, the Azzurri are in basically the exact same situation, and they have set themselves up for another disaster. We think that by the time this match goes off the board, the draw is going to end up being the favored result, so right now, we are hopping on the level score line while the getting is good.

Euro 2012 Pick: Draw (3-Way) (+200)

Group C Euro 2012 Fixture: Italy vs. Ireland
Date: Monday, June 18th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Stadion Miejski (Poznan)
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN2

Oh, the poor Italians. They know that they probably have already been eliminated from this tournament as long as Croatia and Spain play nice with one another and both take a point to show for their efforts. It doesn’t matter whether Italy wins this one by two or 20; it still won’t be enough to get into the second round of this tournament. That being said, we know that Ireland’s defense just isn’t good enough to keep up with the Italian offense, and the latter is going to need to win this match by multiple goals to have a shot at advancing. It just isn’t fair to say the least, but in the end, we do think that Italy is going to make a statement and blow the Irish out of the water, just as the Spanish did four days prior, even though it is going to be knocked out of this tournament when this match is said and done with.

Euro 2012 Pick: Italy -1.5 (+100)

Group D Euro 2012 Fixture: England vs. Ukraine
Date: Tuesday, June 19th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Donbass Arena
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

We have been consistently taking the Ukraine in this tournament, and we don’t think that now is the time to change. You might want to wait before hopping on the boat with the host nation though, as there is going to be a lot of support for the Three Lions, especially knowing that Wayne Rooney is able to return from his two-match suspension that started off this tournament. Still, Andriy Shevchenko is a man that we trust and trust quite a bit. England has had a history of falling apart in matches like this one, and we could be headed for yet another shocking collapse by the men in white and red at the end of the day. Go with Ukraine to take all three points in this fixture, what will amount to be the only result that will put it through to the knockout rounds.

Euro 2012 Pick: Ukraine (3-Way) (+230)

Group D Euro 2012 Fixture: Sweden vs. France
Date: Tuesday, June 19th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Kiev Olympic Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN2

Sweden is one of the two teams that has already been eliminated from this tournament, and it has looked awful in the second half for the most part in doing so. In both matches, the Swedes had the lead, only to choke it away and end up with no points. France isn’t the type of team that is going to take the utmost advantage of a relatively weak defense though, nor should the Swedish offense, which found ways to poke holes in a relatively suspect English defense, be able to do the same against Les Bleus. We just don’t think that there are three goals to be had in this match, and that being said, even though we like the idea of taking France, we think that taking the under is the significantly smarter idea.

Euro 2012 Pick: Sweden/France Under 2.5 (+100)

Group A Euro 2012 Fixture: Greece vs. Czech Republic
Date: Tuesday, June 12th, 12:00 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Stadion Miejski
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

This is where we are going to see whether the Czechs really have the ability to get the job done an stick around in this tournament. We think that the team is a heck of a lot better than the squad that was run off of the pitch against Russia in the first fixture in this event. Greece really should have had three points, and it is going to have to make a heck of a lot of changes in defense after the red card suffered in the opening match against Poland. This is a game for the Czechs for sure.

Euro 2012 Pick: Czech Republic -0.5 (+120)

Group A Euro 2012 Fixture: Poland vs. Russia
Date: Tuesday, June 12th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: National Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

The question that we are going to ask is whether the Poles are going to be good enough to stick around with likely the most talented team in Group A. Russia is as good as anyone in this foursome, and it proved it by taking down the Czechs by a whopping three goal margin in the first match of this tournament. We just don’t know whether the Poles are going to be able to stick around, as they clearly lost a lot of gusto after their opening 45 minutes against Greece. In the end, the Russians are just clearly going to be the better side, and even though this is a de facto road game, we don’t think that it is going to make all that much of a difference.

Euro 2012 Pick: Russia pk (-130)

Group B Euro 2012 Fixture: Denmark vs. Portugal
Date: Wednesday, June 13th, 12:00 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Arena Lviv
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

The Danes come into the second match of Euro 2012 knowing that they have really done something special by taking the three points from the first match against the Netherlands in the biggest upset of the tourney to date. That being said, we think that they have a great shot here against the Portuguese as well of at least getting a point. We tend to think that Portugal has the same type of team that Holland does, knowing that there are a lot of egos that are likely to get frustrated by the defensive, bunker style of play that Denmark is going to use. We really think that the Danes have the ability to get all three points here, but we have a lot of confidence that they will at least get one more often than not.

Euro 2012 Pick: Denmark +0.5 (-105)

Group B Euro 2012 Fixture: Netherlands vs. Germany
Date: Wednesday, June 13th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Metalist Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

The Germans might have a chance to put the Dutch out of this tournament, and that is an opportunity that really can not be replaced. Holland clearly is a good enough team to win this fixture, and if it doesn’t get at least one out of this one, there is a good chance that its tournament will already be over with after just two fixtures. We have been seeing a lot of goals in this tournament thus far, and this is a match that has a lot of potential as well. La Oranje had scored in five straight matches before getting blanked by the Danes, and we think that they will get back on track on Wednesday. The Germans aren’t going to go quietly, though. Expect at least three goals between the two teams in the second match in Group B.

Euro 2012 Pick: Netherlands/Germany Over 2.5 (+100)

Group C Euro 2012 Fixture: Italy vs. Croatia
Date: Thursday, June 14th, 12:00 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Stadion Miejski
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN2

The time is here for the Croats to prove that they are a good enough team to compete in this tournament. Italy put a heck of a lot of effort into that first match with Spain, and it knows that it probably has a safe match coming against Ireland in the future. Croatia really was the most impressive looking team in the first match day on Sunday, and this could be the case yet again this time around. We just don’t believe that the Italians are as good as their effort was against Spain, as we think that they are quite lucky to be alive with a point from that opening fixture. We’re going to go for blood by taking Croatia to win this fixture outright, even though it is an underdog on the day.

Euro 2012 Pick: Croatia (3-Way) (+260)

Group C Euro 2012 Fixture: Spain vs. Ireland
Date: Thursday, June 14th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Stadion Miejski
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN2

One would expect that this match is going to be quite lopsided. The Irish were dominated by the Croats in their first match, and now they have to play Spain, arguably the best team in the world right now. Ireland knows that it doesn’t have the offense to try to go for broke against the Spanish, but the fact of the matter is that it has the ability to at least think about holding down the fort defensively. Shay Given has to be better in the pipes than he was in the first fixture. We really don’t see how the Irish are going to get one past Iker Casillas on Thursday, and for that reason, we will play the ‘under’, though we think that the +1.5 would be a nice bet as well. Spain is good, but we just don’t think that it is that much better than Ireland is.

Euro 2012 Pick: Spain/Ireland Under 2.5 (+105)

Group D Euro 2012 Fixture: Ukraine vs. France
Date: Friday, June 15th, 12:00 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Donbass Arena
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN2

Can the host nation do it again? Andriy Shevchenko was the man of the hour against Sweden, taking the situation from a terrible 0-1 score line to one that sent Ukraine into euphoria in a span of less than 10 minutes and making the match 2-1. The French did get a great strike out of Nasri in the opening fixture against the Brits, but this might be a more difficult challenge, especially in the de facto road match. A draw would be tremendous for the Ukrainians in this match, and we think that that is exactly what they are going to get. Go with Shevchenko and the suddenly bright Ukrainians to make life a living nightmare for Les Bleus.

Euro 2012 Pick: Ukraine +0.5 (-130)

Group D Euro 2012 Fixture: Sweden vs. England
Date: Friday, June 15th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Kiev Olympic Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN2

Sweden had a chance to take all three points from Ukraine in its opening match in Group D, but went from three points to none in the blink of an eye. We still think that England is a team that is vulnerable right now, and though it played relatively well and had to be happy getting a point out of the action against the French in the first match, we just don’t know if the Three Lions will be all that lucky this time around. Sweden isn’t going to go quietly for sure. Take the half ball on Friday afternoon.

Euro 2012 Pick: Sweden +0.5 (-130)

Group D Euro 2012 Fixture: England vs. France
Date: Monday, June 11th, 12:00 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Donbass Arena
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

This might be the biggest mistake of a line that the oddsmakers put up for Euro 2012. England is just a shell of its old self right now, and expectations are relatively low across the Motherland. That has to mean gloom and doom for sure. No Wayne Rooney. No Frank Lampard. Tons of others are out with injuries as well, and there is a real question as to whether the Three Lions have bought into the plan of Roy Hodgson, especially after he left Rio Ferdinand off of this already beaten up roster. France meanwhile, plays a fantastic brand of defensive soccer, and we think that in the end, Les Bleus will be able to pick up the three points relatively comfortably when push comes to shove from this fixture.

Euro 2012 Pick: France pk (-150)

Group D Euro 2012 Fixture: Ukraine vs. Sweden
Date: Monday, June 11th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Kiev Olympic Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

There haven’t been a lot of matches going past the total thus far in this tournament, but what we do know is that there have been plenty of teams that have found their way onto the scoreboard. In fact, in four of the six matches, both teams have managed to find their way to goal. We think that that will be the case again in this one in the first match for the co-hosts of Ukraine, and in the end, we think that that will be the trend. Look for Zlatan Ibrahimovic to lead the Swedes against a very poor Ukrainian defense, but the hosts of this tournament certainly are not going to be backing down either. Two goals a side? It’s a very possible finishing score line.

Euro 2012 Pick: Ukraine/Sweden Over 2 (-130)

Group C Euro 2012 Fixture: Spain vs. Italy
Date: Sunday, June 11th, 12:00 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: PGE Arena
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

Spain is clearly one of the most talented teams in the world, and in the end, we think that this is the club that is going to be able to take the three points in this match. We absolutely know what we are getting out of the Spaniards. They are going to attack and attack with a ton of gusto, and as long as they play up to the ability of their talent level, there isn’t a match that they shouldn’t take all three points in. We know that the Italians do have the talent to be able to stick around in this fixture, and against any team in the world. It tends to be forgotten that this was the team that won the 2006 World Cup. However, with all of the match fixing scandals and all of the instabilities and inconsistencies with this club right now, we just don’t know if it is a team that is really ready to play in this competition.

Euro 2012 Pick: Spain -0.5 (-130)

Group C Euro 2012 Fixture: Ireland vs. Croatia
Date: Saturday, June 9th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Stadion Miejski
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

If the Croats and the Irish have any intent of getting into the second round of this competition, this is the match that has to be won. We do think that Ireland has the lesser team, but Robbie Keane is probably the best player on the field and the most likely to score. There is a lot of potential for Croatia, but we just don’t know if this team is going to be able to pull it together. In the end, both squads are probably going to be a tad disappointed with the end result, as we expect this match to end in a draw. That being said, we are going to take the Irish and the half ball, even though the Euro 2012 odds are a tad steep.

Euro 2012 Pick: Ireland +0.5 (-145)

Group B Euro 2012 Fixture: Netherlands vs. Denmark
Date: Saturday, June 9th, 12:00 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Metalist Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

If there is a match in the first round of this tournament that we are convinced is going to go past the total, this is the one. We think that the Danes catch a tough break here, knowing that they are one of the Top 10 ranked teams in the world. They have some major problems in defense and in net with Thomas Sorensen being replaced at the last minute before this tournament, and now, the Dutch are set to pounce. That being said, neither of these teams are going to go lightly. We wouldn’t be all that shocked if this game was past the number by the intermission. Both of these offenses have 2+ goal potential in them, especially for a Dutch side with so many different players that are on the top of their game.

Euro 2012 Pick: Holland/Denmark Over 2.5 (+115)

Group B Euro 2012 Fixture: Germany vs. Portugal
Date: Saturday, June 9th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Arena Lviv
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

This is going to be the first shot that the Portuguese have at trying to beat the best teams in the world, seemingly all of which are sitting in Group B, the “Group of Death.” We think highly of this German side, and we wouldn’t be all that surprised if the next match between Germany and Holland is a preview of what might be the final of this event as well. That being said, Portugal has a dangerous, dangerous club, and we think that Cristiano Ronaldo and his band of countrymen might be able to at least eke a point out of this match. We want the half ball on our side for sure.

Euro 2012 Pick: Portugal +0.5 (-140)

Group A Euro 2012 Fixture: Russia vs. Czech Republic
Date: Friday, June 8th, 2:45 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: Stadion Miejski
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

Russia is really the only team in Group A that can beat some of the best teams in the world with its offense. Andray Arshavin is probably the best striker that this group has to offer. The last time we saw the Russians in this tournament, we saw them get into the semifinals in 2008. The last time we saw the Czechs? Petr Cech looked like a human goalie and not one of that is out of this world, but he allowed three goals against Turkey in what amounted to be the game that knocked the Czech Republic out of Euro 2008 in the group stage. We think that there is at least a 50/50 chance that Russia takes three points in its first match of the tourney.

Euro 2012 Pick: Russia -0.5 (+125)

Group A Euro 2012 Fixture: Poland vs. Greece
Date: Friday, June 8th, 12:00 ET
Euro 2012 Match Location: National Stadium
Euro 2012 on TV: ESPN

Poland is going to take on Greece in the opening match of Euro 2012. Goals could be at a premium for sure. Robert Lewandowski is really the best striker threat for the Poles, but in the end, they are going against a Greece team that is generally pretty organized defensively. With home field advantage though, we aren’t going to go against Poland. Instead, go with the ‘under’ in what we could see as an awfully drab first game of Euro 2012.

Euro 2012 Pick: Poland/Greece Under 2 (-120)
