Round of 32 Betting Lines
#9 Temple Owls +11.5
#1 Indiana Hoosiers -11.5
Over/Under 148.5

The Hoosiers are going to be expected to run right through Temple in this game, but we’re not really all that sure that that is going to be the case. Temple was an underrated team coming into this tournament, and what we are learning is that the Atlantic 10 really was one of the best conferences in America this season. Indiana was always convincing against the James Madison Dukes on Friday, but we aren’t putting a lot of stock in that game. We remain concerned about how this IU team has played down the stretch and we think that ultimately, it could be there for the taking. Temple isn’t going to be the team that takes this club down, but it is definitely going to be a war out there. G Khalif Wyatt is coming off of a huge first round game against the NC State Wolfpack in which he scored 31 points, and he is now averaging over 20 points per game. F Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson and the rest of the bigs on this team are great in the paint, and the defense for the Owls could ultimately give them a chance. The Owls have allowed at least 72 points in three straight games, but they are getting the job done during some of the biggest possessions in the half court. This should be a great game on Sunday.

We’ve got our dancing shoes on once again here at Cappers Info, and that means that it’s time for the NCAA Tournament picks to continue. Our next set of March Madness Bracket Predictions take us to the East Region, where the #9 Temple Owls and the #8 NC State Wolfpack meet in the Second Round.

Second Round Betting Lines
#9 Temple Owls +4.5
#8 NC State Wolfpack -4.5
Over/Under 149

We have to think that there is a point that the Owls are going to win another first round NCAA Tournament game under the direction of Head Coach Fran Dunphy, and we really hope for their sake that it’s soon. We’re tired of having to call him Fran “One And Dun-”phy. Alas, Temple is just 1-4 SU in its last five games played in the dance under Dunphy’s direction and is 0-6-1 ATS in its last seven games in the dance. The difficult Atlantic 10 this year, one that added both VCU and Butler this season, may have really helped things out tremendously for Temple. The Owls are a tough team, and they try their best to rebound the basketball and play good defense. Here’s the problem. They don’t really rebound the ball that well (+1.7 rebounds per game), and there are times that their defense really gets stretched (68.1 PPGA). NC State has to feel like it is sort of looking in a mirror. These two teams on the exterior look very similar. They’re both based upon their bigs, and they both have very short differences. The difference in this one is simple, though. The Wolfpack have F Scott Wood. The Owls don’t. Wood is a three-point shooting expert who has dominated at this level from long range with games on the line. Once he gets going, this is a team that cannot be stopped by a team like Temple. It’s going to take a lot more to stop the athletic F CJ Leslie and F Richard Howell, and we don’t think that Dunphy has the answers.

Temple vs. NC State Free Pick: NC State Wolfpack -4.5
Temple vs. NC State Predictions: NC State 72 – Temple 66

By most accounts, life at the top of the Atlantic 10 this year has been just as tough as playing at the top of any conference in America. There could be as many as six or seven teams make the NCAA Tournament out of this conference (at least three are locks, and La Salle and Temple are right there), and a total of 11 will be playing in either the NIT or the NCAA Tournament in all likelihood. That’s impressive, and that’s why it’s surprising that a 22-8 Temple team that has a win over the Syracuse Orange this year is actually legitimately on the bubble. The Owls can fly up and down the court, and they are going to be in for a great matchup in this one against the HAVOC defense of the Rams. VCU comes at you for the full 40 minutes, and it forces over 12 steals per game. Of course, the team isn’t all that great on the road, as it is just 1-7 ATS in situations where it can’t feed off of its hometown crowd. That won’t be a problem in the NCAA Tournament, as the team travels well and has picked up a big time neutral fan base as well. Here in the City of Brotherly Love though, there will be no love for the Rams. The Owls have to have this one, and they have the type of team that can run with VCU. Expect a high scoring thriller to go the way of the bubble dwellers on Sunday afternoon.

VCU vs. Temple Pick: Temple Owls +2
VCU vs. Temple Prediction: Temple 85 – VCU 79

The time is here for more of our sparkling CBB picks, as we look at the schedule for basketball for Sunday night. The Kansas Jayhawks and Temple Owls will have it in a nationally televised game, which can be seen on the college basketball TV schedule on CBS.

Temple and Kansas both already have double digits worth of wins this year, but there is a real difference between these two clubs. The Owls have only tripped twice this season, once which was totally inexcusable against the Canisius Golden Griffins, and one of which was a very excusable blowout loss against the Duke Blue Devils. Kansas was only beaten by the Michigan State Spartans, and since that point, it has gone 10-0 SU and 6-3 ATS. That being said, this is a whole heck of a lot of points to be giving a team that does have the potential to pull off a real upset. Remember what happened to the Syracuse Orange when these teams met just before Christmas? The Owls came away with an 83-79 victory. That being said, we really don’t think that this is going to be the exact same result, but this is a stingy team that has the ability to hang around with many of the best teams in the land. We expect to see this be a game that sticks within double digits.

Temple vs. Kansas Pick: Temple Owls +14.5
Temple vs. Kansas Prediction: Kansas 71 – Temple 64

There have been times in the past that the Owls have been able to stick around with teams like the Dookies. Unfortunately for Head Coach Fran Dunphy, we really don’t think that this year is one of those years. The team is good and will be in the NCAA Tournament, but there really is no expectation to win this game or to beat any of the big boys in the dance. That being said, it’s a 6-0 team that has won three road games, but this is a test like none other. Duke has been thrown just about everything this year, from Ohio State to Kentucky to Louisville, and it has passed every test with flying colors. The Owls just don’t have anyone that is going to be able to body it up with F Mason Plumlee, who is one of the few in the nation that is averaging a double-double per game over the course of the whole season. These two teams are relatively level against each other from an ATS standpoint over the course of the last several years, but we know this one is going to be a romp from the start.

Temple vs. Duke Pick: Duke Blue Devils
Temple vs. Duke Prediction: Duke 77 – Temple 61

We have already seen Head Coach Fran Dunphy’s team go up against a Top 5 team on a neutral court, as the Owls were trumped by the Duke Blue Devils by 23 points in East Rutherford, NJ. Now, the team has to go to the Garden to take on the Cuse, who are still spotless this year at 10-0. We do give the Owls credit for getting out of the blocks in good shape, but the play of F Scootie Randall and G Khalif Wyatt can only go so far. Temple is an undersized team that is only outrebounding teams by 1.8 boards per game thus far this year, something that is sure to get worse, not better as the A-10 season approaches. Syracuse meanwhile, is +14.0 on the glass per game, and F Rakeem Christmas very well could be in for a huge day as a post defender. The Orange were tested earlier this week against the Detroit Titans, but they did crush the Canisius Golden Griffins and seven other teams prior to that. Look for this to be another comfortable victory for the Cuse.

Temple vs. Syracuse Pick: Syracuse Orange
Temple vs. Syracuse Prediction: Syracuse 88 – Temple 65

It’s Big 5 action in the City of Brotherly Love, and this is one of those games between Temple and Villanova that is always fun to watch. The home team has won four straight in this series, and the last time that the Owls won a game at the Pavilion was over a decade ago. This is probably the time that all of that is changing, though, as Temple really is on its way to another great season, and we’re not all that sure about the Cats. Losses to Columbia and La Salle really have us thinking about Villanova this year, and though Temple hasn’t always been the most impressive team in the world, at least it hasn’t been beaten by some bad teams either. Keep a close eye on Scootie Randall and Khalif Wyatt in this one, as these two are combining for 31.4 points per game. The Wildcats just don’t have the bigs on the glass to compete with Randall and Anthony Lee, and in the end, the boys from the Big East are going to get busted on their home court by an in-city rival.

Temple vs. Villanova Pick: Temple Owls -1
Temple vs. Villanova Prediction: Temple 72 – Villanova 67

The 2012 college football season is back, and here at Cappers Info, we’ll be looking at some of the best games on the docket each and every week, as we try to make the most money possible off of the CFB odds for the week. Join us on Saturday night, as we make our Temple Owls @ Louisville Cardinals free picks and predictions for what should be a great clash on the gridiron.

Week 10 College Football Picks: Temple Owls @ Louisville Cardinals
Date: Saturday, November 3rd, 12:00 ET
Location: Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Louisville, KY
CFB Betting Odds: Louisville -15
Temple @ Louisville Live TV: ABC

This is a game that we really do think a lot of this week. The Owls are going to try to run the ball and run it a ton against the Cardinals, and they are going to be bringing pressure after QB Teddy Bridgewater all game long. It is actually a bit of a favorable matchup when you just look at the styles of these two teams, and we really think that Temple is going to be able to hang around as long as it stays dedicated to the run and doesn’t ask its passing game to do all that much. The Cardinals have had a history of screwing around with teams that they should be putting away easily and early, including barely beating the winless Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the Florida International Golden Panthers. This screams out to us as another one of these games that won’t always be pretty, but the Cardinals will figure out how to win by a touchdown or so, giving the Owls an easy cover.

Temple @ Louisville Pick: Temple +15
Temple @ Louisville Score Prediction: Louisville 27 – Temple 20

Week 4 pointspreads are out, and here at Cappers Info, we are set to analyze the college football odds for one of the top games on the slate. The Temple Owls vs. Penn State Nittany Lions odds are posted, and we are set to make our CFB picks for another great game.

Week 4 College Football Picks: Temple Owls @ Penn State Nittany Lions
Date: Saturday, September 22nd, 3:30 ET
Location: Beaver Stadium, University Park, PA
CFB Betting Odds: Penn State -7
Temple vs. Penn State Live TV: ABC/ESPN2

There’s a lot of bad news if you’re expecting to see a great game on Saturday in Happy Valley. Points should be a premium with two teams that just don’t have all that much to bring to the table offensively. Temple ranks No. 122 in the land in passing at just 119.5 yards per game, though it does have a decent rushing attack with RB Matt Brown carrying the load. Of course, the problem that the Owls have is that they haven’t won a game against Penn State since 1941, and they have lost every single game that the two teams have played since tying the Nittany Lions in 1950. It’s just not a good spot for either team to be in at the moment. As much as we hate this Penn State team, we dislike this Temple team just as much. Can these two figure out how to get to 44 points? It’s going to be insanely difficult, and it doesn’t feel like it is going to happen more often than not.

Temple @ Penn State Pick: Temple/Penn State Under 43
Temple @ Penn State Score Prediction: Penn State 20 – Temple 16

The 2011 bowl schedule kicks off on Saturday in Albuquerque, where the Temple Owls and Wyoming Cowboys will both look to make for successful New Mexico Bowl picks.

Click Here For The Rest Of Our 2011-12 Bowl Game Previews

New Mexico Bowl Matchup: Temple Owls vs. Wyoming Cowboys
New Mexico Bowl Date/Time: Saturday, December 17th, 2:00 ET
New Mexico Bowl Location: University Stadium, Albuquerque, NM
New Mexico Bowl Odds: Temple -7
New Mexico Bowl Total: 48
New Mexico Bowl TV Coverage: ESPN, ESPN3.com

On one blush, these two teams look a heck of a lot like one another. They both love to run the football, and they both have the tendency to be able to come up with big games when they truly matter most. That being said, both also lost their most important games of the year, games that cost them league titles and put them both into questionable bowl standing this year. Temple was particularly lucky to get into a bowl game even though it went 8-4, as that was the exact same record that it was left out of a bowl game with last year.

However, there are some tremendous differences between these two teams as well. Temple really tries to take the air out of the football, and it routinely possesses the pigskin for at least 35 minutes seemingly every single game. When it doesn’t, it knows that it is in a lot of trouble. The Owls do run some Wildcat offense with QB Chris Coyer calling the shots, but for the most part, it’s a smash mouth game with RBs Bernard Pierce and Matt Brown. These two combined for a whopping 2,248 rushing yards and 30 TDs this year, with Pierce finding the end zone a MAC-best 25 times. The Owls average running the ball over 48 times per game, and as a result, they have no problems putting up some of the best defensive numbers in, not just the MAC, but the entire nation as well. The Owls rank No. 3 in the land in scoring defense at 13.8 points per game.

Wyoming is supposedly going to be behind the 8-ball because of the fact that it uses a freshman quarterback in QB Brett Smith and that it has a rush defense that ranks No. 115 in the land. Sure, that run defense definitely scares us, but we know that the Cowboys can score some points. Smith ran the ball 122 times for 666 yards and 10 TDs this year, and he even caught a TD pass as well. He threw for 2,495 yards and 18 scores against eight picks. The future is definitely bright for this program to say the least. Meanwhile, names like RB Alvester Alexander and WR Chris McNeill both have the ability to put forth fantastic efforts offensively.

In the end, just because there is going to be a ton of running the football in this game doesn’t mean that there won’t be a healthy amount of points. Don’t kid yourself about the Temple defense, as it isn’t as good as its numbers suggest, and it was had a number of times this year in MAC games. Wyoming will score its points as well, and the end result will see at least 50 points hitting the board.

Matchup: Temple Owls @ Miami (OH) Redhawks
Date: Tuesday, November 23rd, 7:00 ET
Location: Yager Stadium, Oxford, OH
Game Line: Temple -6.5
Over/Under OTB

The 7-4 Miami (OH) Redhawks still have a chance to win the MAC East and will look to keep their hopes alive when they host the 8-3 Temple Owls Tuesday night. If the Redhawks can get a win and an Ohio Bobcat loss, they will head to Detroit where they will face Northern Illinois in the MAC Title Game. Last week, the Redhawks scraped out a tough 19-14 win against 0-11 Akron after Zips WR Jeremy LaFrance fumbled inside the Redhawk 20 to preserve a win for Miami of Ohio. QB Austin Boucher started in place of the injured Zac Dysert and performed well in his first start, completing 22 of 32 passes for 213 yards in the win. RB Thomas Merriweather had a big game to assist Boucher, carrying the ball 17 times for 141 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Boucher will get the start against Temple, as Dysert's season very well could be over with, as he has a ruptured spleen. Temple’s MAC Title hopes were eradicated last Tuesday night after they suffered a 31-23 defeat at the hands of the Ohio Bobcats. QB Mike Gerardi looked flummoxed by the Ohio defense all night and his stat line (28-48 311 yards 2 TDs 2 INTs) is inflated due to two touchdowns scored in garbage time. Star RB Bernard Pierce was lost on the very first play of the game for the Owls, injuring his hamstring on a 67-yard run that was called back. In Pierce’s absence, RB Mike Brown was pretty much held in check, only rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

Matchup: Ohio Bobcats @ Temple Owls
Date: Tuesday, November 16th, 8:00 ET
Location: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA
Game Line: Temple -7.5
Over/Under 44.5

The MAC East title is likely on the line Tuesday night when the 8-2 Temple Owls host the 7-3 Ohio Bobcats. HC Al Golden has brought respect back to a downtrodden program since becoming head coach at Temple. Last season, Temple went to its first bowl game in three decades and is poised to go to a bowl game for just the fourth time in their school’s history. 10 days ago, Temple cruised to a 28-10 win against Kent State thanks to QB Mike Gerardi’s performance. Gerardi started the season as the back-up to Chester Stewart but won the job with his performance against Bowling Green and has started the last three games. Against the Golden Flashes, Gerardi completed 21 of 29 passes for 368 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions and was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. RB Bernard Pierce was somewhat contained on the ground though, carrying the ball 28 times for 84 yards and a touchdown. Two Thursdays ago, the Bobcats dominated Buffalo in all aspects of the game, almost doubling their yardage and doubling their score in a 34-17 win. QB Boo Jackson completed 13 of 19 passes for 175 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while also adding another 26 yards and a touchdown on the ground. WR Terrence McCrae had another nice day, catching four passes for 48 yards and two touchdowns. McCrae now has nine touchdown catches on just 26 receptions this year and is a huge threat anytime the Bobcats get in the red zone. The problem the Bobcats will have in this one is that Jackson is out of the lineup with an eye injury from a bar fight, and he probably will be out for the rest of the season. QB Philip Bates is going to be the man in charge, and he was the starting signal caller at the outset of the season. We still trust the 'Cats to cover, but the Owls will seize control of the conference.
