The Idaho Potato Bowl is one of the great games of the season on the 2012 bowl schedule, and today, we are making our Toledo vs. Utah State picks and predictions and trying to beat the Idaho Potato Bowl odds here at Cappers Info.

Idaho Potato Bowl Picks: Toledo Rockets vs. Utah State Aggies
Date: Saturday, December 15th, 4:30 ET
Location: Bronco Stadium, Boise, ID
Idaho Potato Bowl Betting Odds: Utah State -10.5
Toledo vs. Utah State Live TV Coverage: ESPN

It’s going to be a big afternoon in Boise for the Aggies, who are going to try to get into the win column for the second time ever in a bowl game. Utah State made it here to the Potato Bowl last year, but it was beaten by the Ohio Bobcats. There is definitely a score to settle for the members of the WAC. Toledo has been a fantastic team in bowl games for sure, including winning last year at the Military Bowl over the Air Force Falcons.

QB Chuckie Keeton and RB Kerwynn Williams are the big time stars for this offense. Keeton threw for 3,142 yards and rushed for 539 yards, and he had a total of 34 touchdowns for the club. Williams was the team’s leading rusher with 1,277 yards and 12 TDs, and he is also the leading receiver as well with 43 catches, 663 yards, and five trips to the end zone. We know that Williams is going to get the ball a heck of a lot of times, and it might be very difficult for the Rockets to slow him down.

In the end though, this is a ton of points to be giving a team from a very good MAC. Remember that the MAC has won two straight games in the Idaho Potato Bowl, and three of the last four bowl games played here in Boise have been decided by a touchdown or fewer. As a result, we are definitely going to take the points. We do think that the Aggies will win this game and get some revenge from last year’s close call against Ohio, but this will be another close game.

Toledo vs. Utah State Pick: Toledo Rockets +10.5
Idaho Potato Bowl Score Prediction: Utah State 31 – Toledo 24

December 15th, 2012 By Jack Wilshire

The Potato Bowl is one of the games on the college football bowl schedule this year, and today, I’m set to make my NCAA football pointspread picks for the ‘total’ in this clash. The Toledo Rockets and the Utah State Aggies are going to do battle at Bronco Stadium in Boise, ID. Join me for my Potato Bowl tips for this 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff that can be seen on ESPN.

The Potato Bowl is going to be a heck of a battle on Saturday afternoon on the Smurf Turf. Historically, this is a wild game with very unpredictable results. Last year’s game was the first in five years that didn’t feature at least one team getting into the 40s in points, as this same Utah State team was beaten 24-23 by the MAC’s Ohio Bobcats.

2012 Potato Bowl
Toledo Rockets (9-3, 7-5 ATS) +10.5
Utah State Aggies (10-2, 10-1-1 ATS) -10.5
Over/Under 58.5

I’m really wondering whether the Rockets are going to be able to move the ball on the Aggies. Toledo did have a respectable offense that averaged 456.1 yards and 32.9 points per game this year, but it really never did see a defense quite as talented as this one. The only even remotely comparable game was the 27-15 win over the Bowling Green Falcons, and that was a home game, not a de facto road game here in Boise. Utah State ranked eighth in the country in scoring defense, allowing 15.4 points per game, and the only team to put more than 27 on these guys this year was the wild Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, who went off for 41.

It’s just not a great spot for an ‘over’ play in my eyes. There’s going to be a lot of getting the ball in the hands of RB Kerwynn Williams for the Aggies and RB David Fluellen for the Rockets, and that could eat up a heck of a lot of clock as well. Utah State played to a 6-0 start to the season for ‘under’ bettors before finally playing a high scoring game, and there were only three ‘overs’ to speak of all year long. The average game only reached 49.8 points per game, and if you take out that wild one against La Tech, that average comes down to 46.3 points per game. It’s going to take a heck of a lot to get this one into the 60s, and I just don’t see it happening when push comes to shove.

The 2012 college football season continues this week, and here at Cappers Info, we’ll be looking at some of the best games on the docket each and every week, as we try to make the most money possible off of the CFB odds for the week. Join us on Tuesday, as we make our Akron Zips @ Toledo Rockets free picks and predictions for what should be a great clash on the gridiron.

Week 13 College Football Picks: Akron Zips @ Toledo Rockets
Date: Tuesday, November 20th, 7:30 ET
Location: Glass Bowl, Toledo, OH
CFB Betting Odds: Toledo -21
Akron vs. Toledo Live TV: ESPN2

We really like the Zips on Tuesday night to go out and get the job done against the Rockets from an ATS standpoint. Akron has the offense to be able to give Toledo fits, and the Rockets haven’t scored more than 29 in a game in over a month. They’ll get to at least 30 in this one, but probably not all that much beyond about 35 or 40. If that’s the case, we just need the Zips to find the end zone three times, and QB Dalton Williams has averaged 2.5 TD passes per game this year. There will be too many turnovers for the Zips to win, and there might be too many problems to even keep it remotely close. However, we really don’t expect to see this one get too far out of hand either, and in the end, a 38-21 final score seems just about right.

Akron @ Toledo Pick: Akron +21
Akron @ Toledo Score Prediction: Toledo 38 – Akron 21

November 20th, 2012 By Jack Wilshire

5Dimes SportsbookOne of my favorite plays on the Week 13 Tuesday college football odds pits the Toledo Rockets against the Akron Zips. These two are going to be meeting at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Glass Bowl, and I’m going to show you which side to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

Akron Zips (1-10, 5-6 ATS) +21
Toledo Rockets (8-3, 7-4 ATS) -21
Over/Under Off

The last Tuesday night game in the MAC is this week, and I think that it is going to be a heck of a lot more of a game than most probably will when they first look at this game. The Zips have consistently been one of the worst teams in the MAC, but I think that they have the ability to cover this game against a Toledo team that really hasn’t been all that great over the course of the last few weeks.

Toledo really hasn’t played all that many bad games this year, but it hasn’t played many fantastic ones either. The team was beaten by the Ball State Cardinals and Northern Illinois Huskies in back to back weeks, and now, it probably needs to win this game to ensure that it will get into a bowl game this year.

Akron is 4-1 ATS in its five road games this year, and it has a real chance to watch that grow in this one. Toledo has failed to cover five straight Tuesday games for what it’s worth, and it was crushed when these two teams played against each other last time (granted, that was in 2008). However, I really like the form of the Zips right now believe it or not, and I think that they were snuck up on by a hungry UMass team last time out. In their finale, they’ll at least find a way to leave with a decent taste in their mouths in the Glass Bowl.

Week 12 pointspreads are out, and here at Cappers Info, we are set to analyze the college football odds for one of the top games on the slate. The Toledo Rockets vs. Northern Illinois Huskies odds are posted, and we are set to make our CFB picks for another great game.

Week 12 College Football Picks: Toledo Rockets @ Northern Illinois Huskies
Date: Wednesday, November 14th, 9:00 ET
Location: Huskie Stadium, DeKalb, IL
CFB Betting Odds: Northern Illinois -10.5
Toledo vs. Northern Illinois Live TV: ESPN2

Last year when these two teams played, there were a whopping 123 points put on the board. These two teams know how to light it up, and it is clear that this is going to be a high scoring game once again if the Rockets can keep up. There might not be all that much of a way stop the QB Jordan Lynch, but in the end, there might not have to be. Toledo’s offense has been waiting to explode for the last several weeks, and it is clear that this could be the week that it happens. QB Terrance Owens has only thrown for 14 TDs against five picks this year, and though those numbers are okay, he is expected to do more on a regular basis. The big question is whether Northern Illinois is going to be able to take down RB David Fluellen, one of the best backs in the entire nation. Don’t be all that sure that this game isn’t ending in an upset when push comes to shove.

Toledo @ Northern Illinois Pick: Toledo Rockets +10.5
Toledo @ Northern Illinois Score Prediction: Toledo 42 – Northern Illinois 35

November 14th, 2012 By Jack Wilshire

Of all of the games on the Wednesday 11/14 college football betting schedule, one of my favorite is the clash between the Toledo Rockets and the Northern Illinois Huskies. Join me for my Week 12 tips for this 9:00 p.m. ET kickoff that can be seen on ESPN2.

Toledo Rockets (8-2, 6-4 ATS) +10.5
Northern Illinois Huskies (9-1, 8-1-1 ATS) -10.5
Over/Under Off

Last week, Joe Public saw Toledo get beaten at home in upsetting fashion. The public also has seen Northern Illinois just absolutely mow right through opponent after opponent this year, but the truth of the matter is that it hasn’t seen all that much in the way of competition, save for a win over the Ball State Cardinals on October 6th.

This game just screams to be an upset to me. The Huskies have been covering the number against everyone that they have faced, but the numbers for QB Jordan Lynch are just overinflated. Don’t get me wrong, I love Lynch as a player, and I think that his game is great. He’s going to get plenty of yards and plenty of scores in this one, but he won’t light it up for 400 total yards of offense either.

The Rockets are going to be able to control the ball on the ground with RB David Fluellen, and they have a great history in this series. Last year, they were beaten 63-60 at the Glass Bowl as relatively heavy favorites, but they are still 8-4 ATS in the last 12 in this series since the turn of the millennium. I really expect to see an upset in this one, as Toledo flexes its muscles and proves that it is the better squad that has played the significantly better schedule over the course of the year.

Toledo @ Northern Illinois Tips: Toledo Rockets +10.5

5Dimes SportsbookOne of my favorite plays on the Week 11 Tuesday college football odds pits the Toledo Rockets against the Ball State Cardinals. These two are going to be meeting at 8:00 p.m. ET at the Glass Bowl, and I’m going to show you which side to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

Ball State Cardinals (6-3, 7-2 ATS) +6
Toledo Rockets (8-1, 6-3 ATS) -6
Over/Under Off

There are some real problems when I take a look at what Toledo has done over the course of the last few weeks. The biggest problem is that they haven’t won a game by more than the six points that they are favored by in this game. Meanwhile, Ball State has only been beaten three times this year, all of which came against some of the best teams in the MAC and in the country as a whole.

Ball State has covered five of the last seven games in this series, but three straight have been won by the Rockets by at least a touchdown. In all three games, Toledo has managed to put up at least 446 yards, and the Cardinals were held under 400 yards in all three as well.

Take away the game that the Rockets played against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, and they are an undefeated team from both an SU and an ATS standpoint. The Rockets have scored 41.0 points per game over the course of their last 15 games, and if they are able to get to that type of number on Tuesday night, they are going to be in great shape. Ball State’s defense is one of the worst in the MAC, and though its offense is getting up to the line of scrimmage quickly to the tune of over 80 plays per game, it won’t make a difference. I just don’t see how the Cardinals are going to get into the 30s, and if they don’t, they won’t be able to cover the CFB pointspread in this game.

Week 11 College Football Picks: Ball State Cardinals @ Toledo Rockets
Date: Tuesday, November 6th, 8:00 ET
Location: Glass Bowl, Toledo, OH
CFB Betting Odds: Toledo -6
Ball State vs. Toledo Live TV: ESPN2

The first game of the weekend is going to be an interesting one, as the Rockets and the Cardinals are both vying for bowl positioning and positioning in the MAC title race this year. There is going to be a lot of offense in this one, but we have a lot more confidence in QB Terrance Owens and his receivers than we do in QB Keith Wenning and the Cardinals. Toledo has a history and tradition of winning, and it is the team with the bigger wins this year. Of course, we have to give Ball State the credit for losing just three times this year with all three losses coming to teams that are at least getting some votes for the Top 25. In those games though, the Rockets allowed 52, 45, and 35 points, and that’s just bad news for Ball State. The Rockets meanwhile, already have a win over the Cincinnati Bearcats, and they have gone through the entire MAC schedule without a blemish this year. That’s good enough for us to go ahead and lay six points even though Toledo hasn’t won a game by more than six since October 6th.

Ball State @ Toledo Pick: Toledo -6
Ball State @ Toledo Score Prediction: Toledo 41 – Ball State 27

Points should be aplenty in the Military Bowl, and we are set to make our college football bowl picks in the clash between the Toledo Rockets and the Air Force Falcons in Washington DC.

Military Bowl Matchup: Toledo Rockets vs. Air Force Falcons
Military Bowl Date/Time: Wednesday, December 28th, 4:30 ET
Military Bowl Location: FedEx Field, Landover, MD
Military Bowl Odds: Toledo -3
Military Bowl Total: 69.5
Military Bowl TV Coverage: ESPN, ESPN3.com

Though there are games that might have more points in them this bowl season than the Military Bowl, you aren’t going to find all that many with a dynamic like this one. Toledo and Air Force both use a whole host of players to move the football, though the Rockets run a ridiculous spread attack, while the Falcons are running the triple option virtually all the time.

The good news for the Rockets is that they do have a rush defense that is pretty darn solid. They were able to hold down the Temple Owls, the only other team on their schedule that really predominantly runs the ball (after all, the MAC is a pass happy conference), and that does bode well for this game, though it’s clearly not the same type of attack that they need to ready themselves for this time around.

The bad news is that Air Force, unlike most of the rest of the triple option teams out there, has a quarterback that can run a traditional offensive scheme. QB Tim Jefferson, Jr. has gotten more and more liberties to throw the football as his career has gone on, and now that he is wrapping up his senior season of a fine career, he is sure to be allowed to do a lot offensively under Head Coach Troy Calhoun in this game. Jefferson had one of his worst years as a rusher, but in fairness, RB Asher Clark was also a 1,000-yard back this year, and Jefferson did throw for 1,478 yards and a dozen TDs.

The bad news for Air Force is that its defense has been shoddy against the run all year long. Though the Rockets deploy two quarterbacks in QBs Terrance Owens and Austin Dantin, they do run the ball quite a bit with a plethora of options as well, including both quarterbacks. WR Eric Page, who had over 1,100 receiving yards this year, could be a big time factor as well, though the Falcons do play very disciplined ball in the secondary.

In the end, these two teams combined for 76.6 points per game this year, and the bowl games are usually some of the highest scoring games of the year. After watching the Rockets play games in back to back weeks into the 120s, we know that absolutely anything is possible. Don’t let last year’s 14-7 Independence Bowl involving Air Force scare you. These two teams can, and will score points in bunches, and this one should at least get into the 80s.

The Motor City hosts its first bowl game of the year this season on Sunday night in a standalone duel in primetime. Making college football picks on the clash between the Florida International Golden Panthers and the Toledo Rockets should be relatively easy, and here at Cappers Info, we have the ins and outs for the game that you need to know in order to be successful and cash in big!

Little Caesars Bowl Matchup: Florida International Golden Panthers vs. Toledo Rockets
Date: Sunday, December 64th, 8:30 ET
Location: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
Little Caesars Bowl Line: Toledo -1.5
Over/Under 56

Golden Panthers Notes: The Golden Panthers are playing in their first bowl game in team history on Sunday, and if they have the same sort of success in their first bowl game is their brethren, the Florida Atlantic Owls, they're going to be in great shape. We have to give Head Coach Mario Cristobal all the credit in the world for getting this team to .500 and winning the Sun Belt this year in a season in which many thought that this would be a last place team. Truth be told, a very difficult schedule really didn't play into the hands of the Golden Panthers, though they nearly claimed a scalp from a big time conference against the Maryland Terrapins, Texas A&M Aggies, and Rutgers Scarlet Knights. QB Wesley Carroll is the only many on this roster to have played in a bowl game before. He took the Mississippi State Bulldogs to the Liberty Bowl in 2007 and won the game 10-3 in one of the ugliest displays that we college football bettors have seen in a bowl game. Still, he can rally this team around and can show them that they have the ability to win this duel in spite of the fact that the Little Caesars Bowl odds are stacked against them. The Golden Panthers have a fantastic running game that once had three men rush for 100+ yards in a game against the Troy Trojans earlier this year. RB Darriet Perry rumbled for 707 yards and 14 scores this year, while his backup, RB Darrian Mallary had 669 yards on the ground with two scores. Meanwhile, Carroll did have the best season that an FIU QB has ever had, throwing for 2,483 yards and 15 TDs.

Rockets Notes: We'd probably feel a lot better about the Rockets if we didn't know that they were the last team to get into a bowl game this year. Their fellow MAC squad, the Temple Owls, were left home in spite of the fact that they had the exact same record at 8-4. Where Toledo gets the nod is the fact that it really stood in the face of adversity this season when it lost starting QB Austin Dantin. Since that point, the ball has been in the hands of QB Terrance Owens, who has played spectacular ball in his freshman campaign. Owens has thrown for 1,112 yards and 12 TDs, which is five scores more than Dantin had for the rest of the season. Keep a very close eye on WR Eric Page in this one, as he had 94 grabs for 1,081 yards and eight TDs in his second season with the Rockets. Page might only be 5'10", but he is a speedy receiver that has some fantastic hands. Page is averaging right at nine catches per game over the last nine games. RB Adonis Thomas averaged over six yards per carry this year, and it is a shame that he really doesn't get the ball in his hands enough to make a tremendous impact on some games. Still, Toledo's top back had 905 yards and visits to pay dirt this year. Defensively, the Rockets might have allowed 28.1 points per game this year, but if you take out the 41 the Arizona Wildcats scored and the 65 the Northern Illinois Huskies put on the board, you realize that this was a very respectable 'D' all season long.

The Final Word: The Golden Panthers might be the better team in this game in spite of the fact that they came from the worse conference and had a worse record. This was a significantly harder schedule that they had to play to get to this point, and it is going to show on Sunday night with a big time triumph over the Rockets.

Matchup: Miami Redhawks @ Akron Zips
Date: Friday, November 17th, 6:00 ET
Location: InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field, Akron, OH
Game Line: Miami -10.5
Over/Under 48

The 6-4 Miami of Ohio Redhawks will look to keep their hopes at a MAC East title alive Wednesday night when they travel to Akron to take on the 0-10 Zips. The Redhawks have been impressive in conference this year, putting up a 5-1 mark with their only loss being to the Ohio Bobcats. Last week against Bowling Green, Miami withstood a late charge from the Falcons to prevail 24-21 thanks to a 33 yard Trevor Cook field goal with a second remaining. QB Zac Dysert had a very good game, considering the foggy conditions. Dysert completed 19 of 25 passes for 221 yards and a score and also ran for 20 yards and a TD in the win. RB Thomas Merriweather had a good game running the ball as well, carrying the rock 17 times for 88 yards and a touchdown. As for Akron, the season can’t end soon enough for the Zips. Akron has lost eight of their 10 games by double digits and even lost to FCS opponent Gardner-Webb (a team that is only 3-7 themselves) earlier this year. Two Saturdays ago, the Zips almost got their first win of the season but fell 37-30 to Ball State in double overtime. QB Patrick Nicely had an up and down game, throwing for four touchdowns but also throwing three interceptions while only completing 46% of his passes for 178 yards. RB Alex Allen had a very good game for the Zips on the ground, rushing 25 times for 165 yards. If Akron has any hope of beating Miami, they must stop turning the ball over after another multiple turnover game last week.

Matchup: Bowling Green Falcons @ Toledo Rockets
Date: Wednesday, November 17th, 8:00 ET
Location: Glass Bowl, Toledo, OH
Game Line: Toledo -10
Over/Under 54

The 6-4 Toledo Rockets will host the 2-8 Bowling Green Falcons Wednesday night in the battle for the Peace Pipe. The last time college football betting fans saw the Rockets, Toledo was getting its doors blown off by Northern Illinois 65-30 on national television last Tuesday night. Toledo was dominated in all aspects of the game, mainly putting up their gaudy numbers in the second half when they were already down four scores. RB Adonis Thomas had some huge second half runs, finishing the day with 10 carries for 152 yards and two touchdowns. QB Terrance Owens had a decent game as well, completing 18 of 38 passes for 186 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Defensively, Toledo must improve after allowing the Huskies to rack up 584 yards of offense on 70 plays for 8.3 yards per play. As for Bowling Green, the Falcons suffered a tough loss last week on a last second FG when they fell 24-21 to the Miami (OH) Redhawks. In the game, RB Willie Geter was pretty much held in check with only 16 carries for 34 yards but did manage two touchdowns on the day. QB Matt Schilz must improve on his numbers from last week as well, completing 17 of 29 passes for 176 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Matchup: Toledo Rockets @ Northern Illinois Huskies
Date: Tuesday, November 9th, 7:00 ET
Location: Huskie Stadium, Dekalb, Illinois
Game Line: Northern Illinois -11.5
Over/Under OTB

The MAC West champion will be decided for all intents and purposes Tuesday night when the 7-2 Northern Illinois Huskies take on the 6-3 Toledo Rockets. Both the Rockets and the Huskies are 5-0 in conference and both teams play sub-.500 teams in their last two games, so this game will virtually determine who will end up playing the MAC East winner on December 3rd at Ford Field in the MAC Title Game. Two Saturdays ago, Northern Illinois got a scare from a game Western Michigan team, but a Chandler Harnish touchdown pass to Willie Clark with four minutes to go was enough to give the Huskies a 28-21 win against the Broncos. Harnish had another solid game under center for Northern Illinois, completing 60% of his passes for 214 yards with two touchdowns and a pick while also running for 33 yards and a score. RB Chad Spann also contributed by carrying the ball 22 times for 146 yards and a touchdown on the day. Toledo had a much easier time in their last game, cruising to a 42-7 win over lowly Eastern Michigan. The win came at a big price for the Rockets though, as starting QB Austin Dantin will likely miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. True freshman QB Terrance Owens will get the start Tuesday night and showed some promise against the Eagles. Owens completed 10 of 15 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns and completed three 50+ yard touchdowns in the victory.
