After a few days off for the holidays, the Raptors and the Spurs are going to be back at it on Wednesday night in a game in which San Antonio is heavily favored. The Spurs are a 21-8 team that has been covering spreads left and right, but there just isn’t a way that we see this team being one of the best ATS teams in the land once again for the second straight year. The Raps are a woeful 2-14 SU away from the Great White North this year, but they are a significantly more respectable 6-10 ATS in those games. G Jose Calderon has been playing out of his mind, and as a result, Toronto is playing significantly better ball. Remember that the Raptors have won five games in a row and have covered five out of six. They won’t win this game, nor will they likely win any game on this three-game road trip, but we do think that their ATS success is going to continue, even without F Andrea Bargnani and G Kyle Lowry in the fold.

A game that we have had circled for a few weeks at this point. Toronto is a very, very sharp play on Tuesday night, as almost all of the early betting action has come in on Houston, only to see that the line hasn’t moved really at all from the open of 5.5 (down to 5 at some outlets). The Raptors have been great in this series, covering two straight and going 3-0-1 ATS in the last four. The home team has won every game in this series dating back to 2007, but that is of no concern to us. It’s a homecoming for G Kyle Lowry, who has put up some of the best stats for a point guard in the league this year at 18.2 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.9 boards per game. He’s a triple-double threat, and he could threaten that in this one against his former team. Keep a close eye on G DeMar DeRozan as well, as he might be in for a good night against a weak backcourt defense for Houston. This is a game that we think is going the way of the Raptors.

Kyle Lowry and Landry Fields both could be out of the lineup tonight for the Raptors, and that’s really bad news for a team that just had to play three overtimes against a stout Utah Jazz outfit that plays a physical, fast brand of basketball just last night. DeMar DeRozan just played a whopping 60 minutes as well, and that’s a lot to ask for a team that has to play on the road against a team that has played so well at home this year with the tip time coming just about 20 hours after last night’s game was completed. The Pacers are 6-1 ATS in the last seven in this series played at home, and they were able to go on the road on the opening night of the season and log a two-point win in Toronto in spite of the fact that Lowry went off for a crazy night. Toronto is just 5-16 ATS in its last 21 games following games allowing 125 or more points. That’s all more than good enough for us to want to back the Pacers at home against the Raptors on Tuesday for our NBA free picks.

We don’t normally put a ton of stock in what we see over the course of just a few games, but we genuinely are worried about the Thunder through three games. Kevin Martin has been able to step up and take the role of James Harden, but it still doesn’t feel like a team that is as good now as it was just a couple of weeks ago. Toronto has a star in the making in Kyle Lowry, who has averaged 23.7 points, 7.3 boards, and 7.0 assists per game (not to mention 3.7 steals per game, too), and G DeMar DeRozan has played well to boot. We really think that the Raptors are going to improve as the year goes on, and this is a game where they can stick around with one of the best teams in the league. Don’t be shocked if this turns out to be a game for the full 48 minutes.
