SEC Tournament Semifinals Picks: Vanderbilt Commodores vs. Ole Miss Rebels

The Commodores have had a magic run over the course of their last nine games, as they really have only played one dud in that stretch, a road loss at the Florida Gators by 26 points. Vandy put up the best game of its season on Friday against the Kentucky Wildcats to knock the Cats out of the NCAA Tournament, and most think that Ole Miss could be the next to get bounced out of the field of 68. The truth of the matter is that the Rebels may have done enough already, even if this game is lost to Vandy. That’s not going to stop them from trying to put this game away. The Commodores just can’t possibly have anything more left in the tank to warrant being only a short underdog in this game. They shot the ball lights out over the course of the first 25 minutes or so of the game against the Wildcats yesterday, and they really just coasted to victory against a team that gave up after that. Ole Miss isn’t going to give up; it can’t afford to. The Rebels might take a body blow in the beginning of this game from the Commodores, but we think that this is going to be a game that in the end, looks like a 3 vs. 10 battle in a conference tournament. The Commodores just won’t be able to keep up.

Is there really any man on the Commodores that makes you think that they can stick around with the Wildcats? Talent for talent, there is just no comparison between these two teams, and it is going to show. If the Cats aren’t laying at least a dozen points, it isn’t enough for sure, as we think that this is going to be a 20+ point game that gets brutally ugly in the first half and never gets any nicer. The Dores are shooting themselves in the foot, as they don’t have a foul shooter that is knocking down even 70% from the line this year, and the end result is scoring less than 60 points per game BEFORE conference play even starts. The Wildcats have won five out of six and covered five straight since losing to the Baylor Bears, and that only defeat against the Louisville Cardinals is definitely not one to be bothered about all that much. There’s little reason to think that this game will be anything but a humongous blowout, especially with as well as the Cats are playing, seemingly under the radar.

Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt Pick: Kentucky Wildcats -12.5
Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt Prediction: Kentucky 82 – Vanderbilt 58

December 31st, 2012 By Jack Wilshire

I’ve been studying the ‘total’ for the Music City Bowl odds for quite some time, and I’m ready to make my Music City Bowl picks for the clash between the Vanderbilt Commodores and the NC State Wolfpack. The NC State vs. Vanderbilt kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. ET at LP Field, and I’m going to show you which way to bet on college football to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

2012 Music City Bowl
NC State Wolfpack (7-5, 5-6-1 ATS) +7
Vanderbilt Commodores (8-4, 8-4 ATS) -7
Over/Under 51.5

There are a few factors that I’m going to point out in this one that you probably aren’t going to see in most handicapping reports. The first is that this is going to be the second straight day that a game is played on the surface at LP Field. The Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars, two teams that love to grind it out in hardnosed games are going to be battling here on Sunday, and the turnaround time for the grounds crew isn’t all that long for a 12:00 kickoff one day later. The other factor is that it is going to be darn right cold for this game, as the sun is expected to stay in, and temperatures are going to likely be the high-30s or so in what should amount to be a dreary day. These two teams aren’t used to playing in these conditions, though at least it won’t be windy and rainy as well.

The matchup that I’ll be watching closely is the one between the NC State passing attack and the Vandy secondary. It is no secret that QB Mike Glennon has to put the ball in the air, as he had a rushing game that ranked just 108th in the nation at 116.9 yards per game. Glennon did throw for over 3,600 yards on the season, but the Commodores, facing SEC offenses, allowed just 175.8 yards per game and were stellar all year long. Glennon also gets flustered at times when he has to play out of his comfort zone, and when it rains, it tends to pour. The senior threw seven of his 14 INTs this year in just two games.

On top of that, the Commodores make no bones about the fact that they want to run the ball. This team averaged running the ball just over 39 times per game, as opposed to throwing it 26.8 times per game. In case you’re counting, that’s not even 70 snaps per game offensively either in totality, and that’s because the Commodores prefer to just run the clock and keep games short. It is a formula that has worked all year long, and there is no reason that it won’t work like this again. This should be a low scorer of a bowl game in Nashville.

To beat the Music City Bowl odds, you have to put a heck of a lot of work into the game. Our college football expert handicappers have done just that here at Cappers Info, and we think that we have the winning edge for the clash between the NC State Wolfpack vs. Vanderbilt Commodores.

Music City Bowl Picks: NC State Wolfpack vs. Vanderbilt Commodores
Date: Monday, December 31st, 12:00 ET
Location: LP Field, Nashville, TN
Music City Bowl Betting Odds: Vanderbilt -7
NC State vs. Vanderbilt Live TV Coverage: ESPN

We’ve got to be a little careful with the Music City Bowl, knowing that this is a game that features a real home field advantage for the Commodores, playing not all that far away from their campus. NC State is coming into this game without a head coach, as Tom O’Brien was unceremoniously dismissed immediately after a seemingly relatively successful 7-5 season was finished off. Of course, this is a team that has played terrible ball on the road during the entire tenure of O’Brien, so perhaps that might be for the better in terms of the expectations in this game.

We just don’t think that QB Mike Glennon is going to be able to get the ball moving against this defense. Glennon did throw for 3,648 yards and 30 TDs this season, but he was just all over the place this year and was wildly inconsistent. He threw for 493 yards and five TDs against the Clemson Tigers and 440 yards and four TDs against the Miami Hurricanes, but he also put up just 197 yards with three picks against the Virginia Cavaliers and 288 yards with four INTs against the Tennessee Volunteers. Now comes a Vandy defense that might have the best secondary that he has faced all season long, as this unit ranked ninth in America against the pass at 175.8 yards per game.

Head Coach James Franklin knows that this is a tremendously important game to win for the growth of his program. He has the quarterback to get the job done in QB Jordan Rodgers, and he has both a 1,000-yard back in RB Zac Stacy and a 1,000+ yard receiver in WR Jordan Matthews that can move the ball up and down the field when push comes to shove. There’s just too much here for the Commodores. We hate laying more than a few points in these bowl games, as we do think that the underdogs normally are the ones that have a lot of value attached to them, but in this case, we just don’t see how NC State is going to be able to get off of the mat against a very underrated SEC outfit.

NC State vs. Vanderbilt Pick: Vanderbilt Commodores -7
Music City Bowl Score Prediction: Vanderbilt 23 – NC State 10

The Commodores have been a shockingly terrible team this year, and they are having all sorts of issues trying to score with the ball in their hands. They put up just 52 against the Villanova Wildcats over the weekend, and that marked the third time already in six games in which the Dores failed to score more than 52 in a game. The low point was probably a 33-point effort against the Marist Red Foxes. The X-Men meanwhile, haven’t been flawless by any stretch of the imagination. They did go on the road and beat the Purdue Boilermakers this past weekend, and they did play well in Anaheim over the Thanksgiving holiday, but wins haven’t been convincing, and each of the last five games that this team has played have been decided by six points or fewer. That being said, it seems awfully lofty that the Musketeers are laying double digits in this one, as G Kedren Johnson and the Commodores are going to just have to get into the 60s in this one. If that’s the case, they’ll cover the X-Men.

Vanderbilt vs. Xavier Pick: Vanderbilt Commodores +11.5
Vanderbilt vs. Xavier Prediction: Xavier 71 – Vanderbilt 64

November 3rd, 2012 By Jack Wilshire

Of all of the games on the Saturday 11/3 college football betting schedule, one of my favorite is the clash between the Vanderbilt Commodores and the Kentucky Wildcats. Join me for my Week 10 tips for this 3:00 p.m. ET kickoff that can be seen on ESPNU.

Vanderbilt Commodores (4-4, 5-3 ATS) -7
Kentucky Wildcats (1-8, 2-7 ATS) +7
Over/Under 46

It would seem like the easy play to make to just back the ‘under’ between Kentucky and Vanderbilt over the course of the weekend, but I just don’t see it playing out this way against such a low ‘total’. It won’t be the prettiest game in the world, but asking both teams to get into the 20s isn’t all that much.

The Commodores to know how to stretch the field in spite of the fact that they love to run the ball with RB Zac Stacy. Stacy will get his touches for sure, but they are going to come against a UK defense that has just been terrorized this year by the best that the SEC has to offer. The Wildcats aren’t going to be able to throw the ball, but if there are any tricks that are up the sleeve of Head Coach Joker Phillips, now would be the time to use them considering the fact that he is probably going to get fired here sooner than later.

Immediate history suggests that there could be some points put up in this series. Over the course of the last six years, four of the six have gone past the ‘total’, and five of the six have featured at least 46 points. That’s good enough for us on Saturday, and I think that this will be another one of these games for the Wildcats where they do some scoring early, but some fading late in a contest that ekes past the ‘total’.

Vanderbilt @ Kentucky Tips: Over 46

October 13th, 2012 By Jack Wilshire

Of all of the games on the Saturday 10/13 college football betting schedule, one of my favorite is the clash between the Florida Gators and the Vanderbilt Commodores. Join me for my Week 7 tips for this 6:00 p.m. ET kickoff that can be seen on ESPNU.

#4 Florida Gators (5-0, 4-1 ATS) -9
Vanderbilt Commodores (2-3, 3-2 ATS) +9
Over/Under Off

Doesn’t this game feel like a massive trap at this point? The Gators are coming off of arguably their biggest win since QB Tim Tebow left Gainesville, and they have the South Carolina Gamecocks and Georgia Bulldogs on deck after this one is said and done with. It’s absolutely a perfect sandwich game, and it comes in a spot against a hungry team that has the ability to beat anyone in the conference.

The Commodores aren’t a joke in spite of the fact that they are a 2-3 team. Their defense is legitimate, and they get enough out of their offense to make teams pay, especially when RB Zac Stacy finds some holes in opposing defenses. Florida has had all sorts of trouble moving the football this year regardless of who the team plays, and if not for the play of this defense, this would be a team with a very similar record to that of what Vandy has.

The Commodores have been the doormats for the SEC East for quite some time, but they are determined to not let that happen anymore. They have come close at times against the Gators but haven’t been able to come up with a victory. Could this be the day that that happens? It’s going to be a gritty game in Nashville, and in the end, it is going to end in at least a cover, if not an upset, in favor of the hosts. Remember that this is the same Vandy team that nearly beat South Carolina on the opening day of the season.

Florida @ Vanderbilt Tips: Vanderbilt +9

Join us on Saturday, as we make our Vanderbilt Commodores @ Georgia Bulldogs free picks and predictions for what should be a great clash on the gridiron.

Week 4 College Football Picks: Vanderbilt Commodores @ Georgia Bulldogs
Date: Saturday, September 22nd, 7:45 ET
Location: Sanford Stadium, Athens, GA
CFB Betting Odds: Georgia -15
Vanderbilt vs. Georgia Live TV: ESPN2

The Bulldogs and the Commodores have had a great history with one another, and this is a series in which UGA really just doesn’t perform all that well in regularly. The Dores have already come to Athens and scored an upset six years ago, and ever since that point, it feels like more of these games have been closer than perhaps they should have been. This time should be no exception, as we feel as though Vanderbilt really has played relatively well this year, and there is no shame in getting beaten on the road by Northwestern or clipped at the gun at home by South Carolina. We’re not saying that this one is going to end in an upset, but UGA had better be careful, or it might find itself in a lot more of a dog fight than it wants to be in.

Vanderbilt @ Georgia Pick: Vanderbilt +15
Vanderbilt @ Georgia Score Prediction: Georgia 30 – Vanderbilt 21

The Football Tipster is set to make his debut here at Cappers Info, and he is going to be making a daily sports pick each and every day and tracking here on our blog. As always when you read hot sports tips from the Tipster, you’re going to get a bunch of trends and other notes that you might not get elsewhere. We’ll start right away with the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Vanderbilt Commodores on Thursday, August 30th.

#9 South Carolina Gamecocks (0-0, 0-0 ATS) -6.5
Vanderbilt Commodores (0-0, 0-0 ATS) +6.5
Over/Under 45.5

South Carolina is going to be in for quite the challenge in this game. The Gamecocks are going to be against a Vanderbilt team that is 6-2 ATS in its last eight games overall and is 4-1 ATS in its last five games in the SEC. To make matters even worse for the Gamecocks, the ‘Dores have covered seven of their last eight here at Vanderbilt Stadium.

QB Connor Shaw has been battling back problems, and we also have to remember that this is going to be the first game back in the lineup for RB Marcus Lattimore since getting injured in the middle of last season. The Gamecocks have also scored just 21, 21, 14, 17, and 6 over the course of the last five games in this series, and that isn’t going to cut it for covering a college football point spread like this on the road.

In the end, the choice here is easy. Vanderbilt is one of the most underrated teams in the SEC this year, and though it might be the 10th or 11th best team in the conference, it could still be a bowl team. South Carolina is overrated as one of the Top 10 teams in the country, and I think that it could be on upset alert.

South Carolina @ Vanderbilt Tips: Vanderbilt +6.5

Liberty Bowl Matchup: Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Vanderbilt Commodores
Liberty Bowl Date/Time: Saturday, December 31st, 3:30 ET
Liberty Bowl Location: Liberty Bowl Stadium, Memphis, TN
Liberty Bowl Odds: Vanderbilt -1.5
Liberty Bowl Total: 48.5
Liberty Bowl TV Coverage: ABC

The Bearcats and the Commodores both overachieved this season, though both teams took significantly different paths to reach this point in the campaign. UC took advantage of a very weak schedule and an incredibly weak conference to finish up the year at 9-3, but it was passed over for one of the elite bowl games due to that scheduling. Vandy is never really seen as a team that is a threat in the SEC, and it only has one bowl win coming into this year. The Commodores took their lumps against the best teams in the conference, but when push came to shove, they weren’t nearly a pushover this season, especially when they played at home, and that’s why they could be a nuisance in this game for the Bearcats.

The news for Cincinnati QB Zach Collaros is getting better and better as the days are progressing. It is starting to look as though he will be ready to go after suffering an ankle injury against the West Virginia Mountaineers over a month ago, and that will be a huge boost for an offense that was suspect at times all season long. Collaros has seemingly digressed over the years, but he is still a viable quarterback and could do some real damage. However, the real key to this team is going to be the success of RB Isaiah Pead. Pead rumbled for 1,110 yards and had 14 total trips to the end zone this year, though he is going to have his work cut out for him against a Vandy defense that was one of the more unheralded units in the SEC this season.

Of course, the Bearcats have a great defense as well, ranking No. 6 in the country against the rush. That would seemingly bode poorly for the Commodores, who really only throw the ball when they are behind in down and distance. However, we have to remember that the teams that do run the ball quite a bit in the Big East, such as the Pitt Panthers, South Florida Bulls, and Connecticut Huskies, all had more success against this defense than a lot of the pure passing teams did. Vandy can push the ball up the field when it has to, but RB Zac Stacy is the man that really has to make the big time difference for it to keep moving the pigskin.

We just look at this Cincinnati team and we see its one game this year against a Big East team… The Tennessee Volunteers absolutely took the Bearcats behind the shed in Week 2 with a 45-23 defeat. Add that to the fact that the Dores scored a huge 41-7 victory over a relatively comparable Wake Forest Demon Deacons team in a road game at the end of the year. The makings are really set for the de facto hosts in this one to come out strong and to steal their second bowl victory in team history. The Bearcats are just up against it too hard to be able to deal with a sneaky Vanderbilt team that earned its way to a bowl game in spite of its 6-6 record.

Matchup: Missouri Tigers @ Kansas Jayhawks
Date: Saturday, March 5th, 12:00 ET
Location: Mizzou Arena, Columbia, MO
Game Line: OTB
Over/Under OTB

If the Jayhawks think that they are going to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, they badly need to collect this win on the road. That would take a lot of pressure off for winning the Big XII Tournament, as there are a ton of teams that are going to be gunning for that crown that need wins in big time ways over teams like these. Mizzou really hasn’t played spectacular ball of late, and it really could use a boost just to get some momentum going and to avoid falling into that seemingly inevitably dreaded 8/9 matchup in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Kansas is a far superior team in terms of talent, and it really showed the first time around when these two met at Allen Fieldhouse. Sure, the intensity really kicks up a notch when you’re playing on the road, especially in a game that is this big, but the Jayhawks should be able to handle themselves. The oddsmakers will give too much respect to the Tigers, and KU will get the job done and lock up the regular season conference crown and the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament.

Matchup: Notre Dame Fighting Irish @ Connecticut Huskies
Date: Saturday, March 5th, 2:00 ET
Location: XL Center, Storrs, CT
Game Line: OTB
Over/Under OTB

The Fighting Irish have to feel like they have a legitimate chance of being a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but they are going to need to win the Big East and probably beat the Pitt Panthers to do it. There’s a chance to draw level for the Big East regular season crown as well, and that’s a coveted thing for any team to have on its resume for a top seed in the dance. Connecticut really just needs to feel like it has to ability to win it all in what will be the last home game for Kemba Walker before he heads to the NBA. Walker can take this game over like none other, and though the Irish will inevitably throw everything they can at him including the kitchen sink, it isn’t going to be enough. Notre Dame will get rocked on the that day is designed for Walker to shine.

Matchup: Villanova Wildcats @ Pittsburgh Panthers
Date: Saturday, March 5th, 4:00 ET
Location: Petersen Events Center, Pittsburgh, PA
Game Line: OTB
Over/Under OTB

Villanova is in a world of hurt right now, as it is really playing poor ball at a poor time of year to be doing so. The Cats have dropped three in a row going into this, the final, and arguably most difficult game of the entire season. They’ve also lost seven out of 11 and don’t look anything like a team that even belongs in March Madness, let alone belongs there as a respectable seed. Pittsburgh’s defense is just downright nasty, as it hasn’t allowed more than 66 points in a game in almost two full months, including a 57-54 win over Nova in the City of Brotherly Love four weeks ago. Ashton Gibbs, Brad Wanamaker, Gilbert Brown… it’s all just too much for the Wildcats to handle right now. They just don’t stand a chance of going into the Steel City and doing any damage, and it’ll show in another lopsided defeat.

College Basketball Free Picks: Pittsburgh Panthers

Matchup: Florida Gators @ Vanderbilt Commodores
Date: Saturday, March 5th, 6:00 ET
Location: Memorial Gym, Nashville, TN
Game Line: OTB
Over/Under OTB

This is a tough one, because both the Gators and the Dores are fantastic at what they do. Believe it or not, Florida already has eight wins on the road this season, which is a ton for a team that really didn’t do much in the way of scheduling out of conference on the road this year (though there are wins against Xavier and Florida State to speak of). Vandy has those 14 wins at home though, and they’re going to be hard to overlook. Chandler Parsons and the crew are very thin, yet they are very talented as well. UF is really hoping to get up onto the No. 3 line or so for the NCAA Tournament, and a win like this would go a long way to ensuring that. We just don’t buy into Vandy though, as there are a lot of fluff wins that just don’t look all that great when push comes to shove. The 21 wins for the regular season is nice, but knowing that the oddsmakers are going to treat this home court advantage worth a whole slew of points, we have to back the blue and orange.

NCAA Basketball Free Picks: Florida Gators

Matchup: Duke Blue Devils @ North Carolina Tar Heels
Date: Saturday, March 5th, 8:00 ET
Location: Dean E. Smith Center, Chapel Hill, NC
Game Line: OTB
Over/Under OTB

First place in the ACC and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament are on the line in Chapel Hill on Saturday, and the oddsmakers are really going to have to take a close look at just how good they think that UNC really is. The Tar Heels are certainly flying through everyone in the ACC right now, and they were able to do something this past week that Duke wasn’t able to do: Beat Florida State on the road. Granted, the Noles didn’t have Chris Singleton, but it was UNC’s second win against the garnet and gold this year, and the first time around, Singleton was playing, and the game was a blowout from the get go. This challenge against the Dookies the first time around was a solid one, as North Carolina challenged the whole way and blew a huge lead. This time, it will make amends and make things right. The Carolina Blue clad nation will be out and in full force in a game that is going to feel like the Super Bowl on Tobacco Road. Coach K knows that there are bigger and more important battles to fight than this one, and though the Blue Devils will end up losing this battle, their goal is to win the war and to defend their NCAA Championship.

College Basketball Expert Picks: Duke Blue Devils

Matchup: Texas Longhorns @ Baylor Bears
Date: Saturday, March 5th, 9:00 ET
Location: Ferrell Center, Waco, TX
Game Line: OTB
Over/Under OTB

We know that this isn’t a Top 25 battle, but this is arguably the most meaningful game of the entire day. For the Longhorns, they’re hoping to snap out of this two game funk and to get back on track for a potential No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Winning this one and winning the Big XII would still inevitably get the job done. However, a loss and an early exit from the Big XII Tourney could result in a disastrous No. 4 seed, which could make the first round of the dance very, very interesting. Jordan Hamilton, Tristan Thompson and company have the talent to beat anyone in America, but thanks to how inexperienced this club really is, nothing is a guarantee. For Baylor, it really needs this signature win to pad its resume for the NCAA Tournament. A loss will likely leave it with a lot of work to do to get into March Madness. A win will almost certainly get the job done with just one win in the Big XII Tournament (and even that might not be necessary). There’s too much on the line here for Baylor to get beaten, and we tend to believe that it will get the job done once and for all and make its case to go dancing.

Matchup: Syracuse Orange @ Louisville Cardinals
Date: Saturday, February 11th, 12:00 ET
Location: KFC Yum! Arena, Louisville, KY

The Redbirds have a real chance here to make a statement at home against a Syracuse team that has underachieved in recent weeks. Head Coach Jim Boeheim knows that he is up against it in this one, especially on the road where his team has already lost to the Marquette Golden Eagles and the Pitt Panthers over the course of the last month. Louisville is coming off of that crushing loss at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but things are definitely looking up. This is a team that generally plays remarkable defense, and that 'D' should really shine on Saturday. The home team is 5-2-1 ATS in the last eight clashes in this series, while Syracuse is just 5-12 ATS in its last 17 games played on Saturday. The Cards have also won and six in a row in this series and are 5-0-1 ATS in those meetings. Back Louisville.

Matchup: Kentucky Wildcats @ Vanderbilt Commodores
Date: Saturday, February 11th, 1:00 ET
Location: Memorial Arena, Nashville, TN

This is a mighty interesting clash for the Wildcats, who really haven't played all that well on the road this year. Perhaps a different program with less of a history wouldn't even have a ranking right now at 17-6, just like this Vanderbilt team is just barely hanging on to the Top 25. The Cats, believe it or not, only have one win on the road in the SEC this year, and if they lose this one, there is a good chance that they will only end up beating one SEC East team on the road. Head Coach John Calipari has a talented bunch, but these youngsters just haven't figured out how to consistently put it together on the road. The 'Dores, on the other hand, are 13-1 at home on the campaign, and they do have some wins against some very quality foes here. Don't be shocked if the big men for Vandy, while are far more experienced, end up outworking the Wildcats in the Music City.

Matchup: Ohio State Buckeyes @ Wisconsin Badgers
Date: Saturday, February 11th, 2:00 ET

Seemingly everyone and their brother is going to be backing the Badgers in this one, and the college basketball odds might even have the hosts as short favorites over the undisputed No. 1 team in the country. The problem is perception. No one really believes that OSU is that good of a team this year. Sure, Jared Sullinger is amazing, but the rest of this cast really doesn't look like a Final Four team, does it? Then again, does Wisconsin look like a Final Four team either? If Head Coach Thad Motta can figure out how to take the ball out of the hands of Jon Leuer and Jordan Taylor, Wisconsin is in a ton of trouble in this one. The Buckeyes have some big time mojo on their side, and there is a reason that they have withstood the first 24 challenges this year. They'll survive and get win No. 25, which should start the talks about a perfect season in a hurry.

Matchup: Baylor Bears @ Texas Longhorns
Date: Saturday, February 11th, 4:00 ET

Texas needs to be particularly careful in this one, as the Bears are a dangerous club. There is a point that the No. 3 team in the country is overrated. We know that Texas is good, and that there is a good chance that this will be at least an Elite 8 team, if not more. However, the point of desperation is going to be kicking in at some point for the Bears, and this is a bit of a bipolar bunch of Longhorns that we are dealing with. Remember, this is a beatable team here in Austin; UConn proved that, and it did so with a big time game from Kemba Walker. Though there is no one quite like Walker in the country, Baylor does have some legit stars like LaceDarius Dunn to rely on. He's capable of going off for 30 in any game that he plays, and he has enough help around him to be able to take down some of the best and brightest in the country. Still, Baylor has struggled and has limped to a marginal record in conference and a terrible record against the NCAA basketball odds. The Bears might be good enough to stick inside of what is sure to be a hefty number, though.

Matchup: Pitt Panthers @ Villanova Wildcats
Date: Saturday, February 11th, 9:00 ET
Location: The Palestra, Philadelphia, PA

The Wildcats are going to be inevitably be getting very little respect from the oddsmakers thanks to the fact that they were upset in horrifying fashion by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights earlier this week at home as tremendous chalks. Many will think that this is the start of another one of these patented Villanova swoons, just like the team went on a few weeks ago, and just like the one that the squad had just before the NCAA Tournament last year. However, that was clearly a look ahead game, and it was a game in which the Cats were just flat the whole way through because they knew that there were bigger and better on the horizon. U-Pitt is a great team, but even the best and brightest in the Big East end up getting picked off in roadies like this one eventually. If this is anywhere even close to a pick 'em like we are thinking, we have no choice but to go with the hosts.
