Week 5 of the 2012 AFL season is upon us, and here at Cappers Info, we are taking a look at all of the games that are on the AFL betting lines and making our Arena Football predictions for the week ahead!

Week 5 AFL Matchup: Iowa Barnstormers @ Pittsburgh Power
Date: Friday, April 6th, 7:30 ET
Arena Football Week 5 Odds: Iowa -3.5 (109)

Pittsburgh is going to be on yet another quarterback this week when Andrico Hines gets on the field. He is terrible and is one of the worst signal callers that will start a game this week. We just don’t see how the Power should be anywhere near a tossup against an Iowa team that has looked relatively respectable this season.

AFL Week 5 Pick: Iowa Barnstormers -3.5

Week 5 AFL Matchup: Tampa Bay Storm @ New Orleans VooDoo
Date: Friday, April 6th, 8:00 ET
Arena Football Week 5 Odds: New Orleans -4.5 (110)

The VooDoo now have the third longest losing streak at home in team history, but this is a game that really should be won. Tampa Bay was lucky to get away with a win last week against an iffy Jacksonville team, and we like the way that the VooDoo have played this year. Head Coach Pat O’Hara and OC Tim Marcum, both of which were long time coaches in Tampa Bay, should get their revenge on the Storm in the NFL Network game in Week 5.

AFL Week 5 Pick: New Orleans VooDoo -4.5

Week 5 AFL Matchup: Spokane Shock @ Arizona Rattlers
Date: Friday. April 6th, 10:00 ET
Arena Football Week 5 Odds: Arizona -14 (117)

The Shock are making some big time changes this week, and the notable move is that Kyle Rowley is back to lead the team. Yes, he has only been in camp for a few days, and yes, he hasn’t played a game this year, but he is a heck of a lot better than anything else that the Shock are going to throw out there at quarterback at this point. Look for Spokane to at least keep this one without two TDs against an Arizona team that we think is vastly overrated this year.

AFL Week 5 Pick: Spokane Shock +14

Week 5 AFL Matchup: San Antonio Talons @ San Jose SaberCats
Date: Friday, April 6th, 10:30 ET
Arena Football Week 5 Odds: San Jose -9 (110)

These two teams played to a tie in the preseason, and the game was called thanks to a brawl that happened on the field. This is a game that has a lot of emotion in it, and we prefer the experienced SaberCats with all of their veterans over a San Antonio team that has really looked sloppy with first year Head Coach Lee Johnson trying to run the operation. Look for the Cats to romp.

AFL Week 5 Pick: San Jose SaberCats -9

Week 5 AFL Matchup: Philadelphia Soul @ Georgia Force
Date: Saturday, April 7th, 7:00 ET
Arena Football Week 5 Odds: Philadelphia -3.5 (114)

There is a real question as to whether Philadelphia is good enough to go on the road and win consistently. A home loss to Cleveland last week was suspect at best, though we do think that the team is going to put forth a better effort in this one. Georgia has had mixed results this year, and it hasn’t played against a team anywhere near this good. The Force should be dumped by at least a TD at home.

AFL Week 5 Pick: Philadelphia Soul -3.5

Week 5 AFL Matchup: Kansas City Command @ Chicago Rush
Date: Saturday, April 7th, 8:00 ET
Arena Football Week 5 Odds: Chicago -15.5 (90)

Kansas City was so thrilled with the way that both of its quarterbacks played that it released both of them this week. Now, the Command are going to be going into battle with Matt Gutierrez making his first career AFL appearance. Gutierrez has some experience in the NFL, and we think that that will at least help out this team just a bit. Chicago hasn’t really played much in terms of a schedule this year, and we think that laying more than two TDs is a bit absurd, even against the Command.

AFL Week 5 Pick: Kansas City Command +15.5

Week 5 AFL Matchup: Orlando Predators @ Cleveland Gladiators
Date: Sunday, April 8th, 6:00 ET
Arena Football Week 5 Odds: Cleveland -4 (97)

Will the real Gladiators please stand up? Is this team that was brutal offensively over the course of the first two games of the year, or the one that blew up and had a great outing against Philly last week in the City of Brotherly Love? Orlando has been awful all year long offensively, and Collin Drafts just isn’t cutting it. We think that the Predators are in a lot of trouble in this one in a venue in which they have never won a game in franchise history.

AFL Week 5 Pick: Cleveland Gladiators -4

The final team of the year opens up its home schedule on Monday Night Football, and we are set to make our NFL picks for the clash between the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins.

Year To Date Record: 25-16 ATS
Upset Record: 5-11, -$750

Week 5 NFL Matchup: Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets
Date: Monday, October 17th, 8:30 ET
Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
NFL Week 5 Lines: New York -6.5
Over/Under 42.5
Week 5 NFL TV Schedule: ESPN

Dolphins Notes: WR Brandon Marshall says that he is going to get thrown out of this game in the second quarter. Good for him. That’d probably be about the only emotions that the Dolphins have had this season. The bye week last week came just at the right time, as it gave two full weeks for QB Matt Moore to prepare as a starting quarterback after losing QB Chad Henne for the season. The Dolphins are only scoring 17.2 points per game this year, but the good news is that RB Daniel Thomas will be back in the fold this week after missing two of the first four games of the campaign. The defense has to man up as well, though, as this unit has allowed a putrid 26.0 points per game.

Jets Notes: This is as big of a game as the Jets will play this year, and the pressure is really starting to mound. Losing will leave New York three games out in the AFC East and a game outside of the postseason with a slew of teams in front of it. QB Mark Sanchez only has 1,171 passing yards and eight scores this year, and that’s bad news for a ground game that just doesn’t have the oomph that it normally does. RB LaDainian Tomlinson is battling a calf injury that might keep him out of MNF, while RB Shonn Greene just hasn’t figured out how to really get going.

The Final Word: We tend to think that both of these defenses are going to let down just a bit in this one. Three straight meetings before the 10-6 encounter at the end of last season had gone past the number, and all of them truly flew past the number as well. Seeing games in the 50s in this series is nothing out of the ordinary, and we could see that being the case again in this one.

Week 5 NFL Pick: New York/Miami Over 42.5

NFL Football Prediction: New York 27 – Miami 21

The Detroit Lions are one of the two undefeated teams in NFL betting action this year, but they are a half game back of the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North. They’ll face another division rival, the Chicago Bears at home on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

Year To Date Record: 22-12 ATS

Upset Record: 4-11 -$730

Week 5 NFL Matchup: Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
Date: Monday, October 10th, 8:30 ET
Location: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
NFL Week 5 Lines: Detroit -5.5
Over/Under 47
Week 5 NFL TV Schedule: ESPN

Bears Notes: Chicago knows that it is up against it in this one, as the Ford Field faithful is going to be rocking and rolling in an incredibly rare primetime game. To make matters worse, QB Jay Cutler has a terrible history of playing in showcase games, and he hasn’t done a heck of a lot this year to make us think that any of that will change. The former Denver Broncos standout has only completed 54.2 percent of his passes for 960 yards and five TDs against four picks this year. The only bright spot is RB Matt Forte, who rumbled for over 200 yards last week on the ground in the win against the Carolina Panthers.

Lions Notes: The Lions are 4-0. You’re reading that properly. The Detroit Lions are 4-0. QB Matt Stafford has had no complaints this year, as he has 11 TD passes against just three INTs. He has 1,217 yards through the air and is proving to be one of the most efficient signal callers in the league now that he is healthy. Stafford has some moxie as well, leading Detroit in second half comebacks against the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys over the course of the last two weeks. WR Calvin Johnson is making his primetime debut as well, and he wants to show the world just how strong of a receiver he really is. “Megatron” has two TD receptions in each of his first four games this year, and he can make some NFL history if he does it again this week. He’d become the first receiver in the history of the game to score at least two touchdowns in his first five games.

The Final Word: The Bears have won six straight games in this series, but the Lions know that they are the chosen team at this point. However, what we have to remember is that the underdog is 10-4 ATS over the course of the last 14 games in this series. Everyone is going to be on the Detroit bandwagon, but we are going to take the points with the Bears and hope for the best. We’re not convinced that the Lions are that much of a better team in this game.

Week 5 NFL Pick: Chicago +5.5

NFL Football Prediction: Chicago 23 – Detroit 20

Last season, the Green Bay Packers were able to take down the Atlanta Falcons in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Now, they return to the Georgia Dome, the scene of the crime, in a huge regular season game in Week 5 on Sunday Night Football.

Year To Date Record: 16-11 ATS

Upset Record: 3-9 -$815

Week 5 NFL Matchup: Green Bay Packers @ Atlanta Falcons
Date: Sunday, October 9th, 8:25 ET
Location: Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA
NFL Week 5 Lines: Green Bay -5.5
Over/Under 53
Week 5 NFL TV Schedule: NBC

Packers Notes: Maybe QB Aaron Rodgers was right when he said that this version of the Packers offense was even better than last year’s version of it. The unit put up 49 points in a romp last week over the Denver Broncos, and Rodgers accounted for six of the seven scores. The only issue that we have with the Packers is that their pass defense hasn’t been all that special. Giving up over 400 passing yards to QB Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints is one thing. Giving up over 400 passing yards to QB Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers is something totally different. This is clearly the toughest game that the Pack have had to date.

Falcons Notes: The Falcons have to be concerned as well, though they have a lot more reason to be worried. Unlike Green Bay, Atlanta isn’t a 4-0 team; it’s 2-2. The Falcons clearly have a stud in the making in WR Julio Jones, who caught 11 balls last week and had over 100 receiving yards. If he, WR Roddy White, and QB Matt Ryan can all ever get on the same page at the same time, look out! The pass defense is also a concern here in the Peach State, though. QB Tarvaris Jackson and the Seattle Seahawks did a slew of damage through the air last Sunday at Qwest Field, and the end result was that the hosts were just a matter of a few yards short of pulling off what would have been a big time upset.

The Final Word: These two teams are a combined 6-2 towards the ‘over’ this year, and they did combine for 69 points in the postseason effort in January. However, this is just too high of a number to ignore. Asking for 54 points on a regular basis is just too much, so we’ll rely on a lower scoring affair in what should be a tough game.

Week 5 NFL Pick: Atlanta/Green Bay Under 53

NFL Football Prediction: Green Bay 27 – Atlanta 23

NFL betting action is here again! Here at Cappers Info, we’re making our running tally of NFL picks this year, continuing with action on Sunday, October 9th!

Year To Date Record: 16-11 ATS

Upset Record: 3-9 -$815

Week 5 NFL Matchup: Oakland Raiders @ Houston Texans
Date: Sunday, October 9th, 1:00 ET
Location: Reliant Stadium, Houston,TX
NFL Lines: Houston -5.5
Over/Under 48.5
Week 5 NFL TV Schedule: CBS

The Texans are probably in a tad bit of trouble for the next couple of weeks without WR Andre Johnson on the field. Their offense came to a total halt last week against the Steelers once Johnson left the lineup, and it was only on the grace of a 55 yard TD run by RB Arian Foster that the team was even able to eke out a win. Now, Oakland is coming to town, as the Raiders are the hunters in this battle. This is uncharted territory for the Texans, as they aren’t used to be the hunted. We wouldn’t be surprised if QB Matt Schaub and the gang struggle quite a bit. We also tend to think that there will be a lot of running the football, which could keep the scoring in this game down to a dull roar. This ‘total’ is far too high, and that is way, way too many points for Houston to be laying against a comparable team. Expect a 21-17 type of game one way or the other.

Week 5 NFL Pick: Oakland +5.5 & Houston/Oakland Under 48.5

Week 5 NFL Matchup: New Orleans Saints @ Carolina Panthers
Date: Sunday, October 9th, 1:00 ET
Location: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC
NFL Lines: New Orleans -6
Over/Under 51
Week 5 NFL TV Schedule: FOX

Literally the whole world is on the Saints this week, and we don’t like it. We don’t really know what Carolina has done that wrong this year. The Panthers are 3-1 ATS in spite of the fact that they are 1-3 SU, and that tells us A) that they never stop fighting in games, and B) that they truly are good enough to win some of these even though they aren’t quite getting it all figured out as of yet. The Saints more or less screwed around with the Jags last week on the road, and we don’t see how the effort put forth is really going to be that much better this week. Will New Orleans do enough to win this game? Probably. Will it be enough to win by more than a TD? We just don’t think so.

Week 5 NFL Pick: Carolina +6

Week 5 NFL Matchup: Seattle Seahawks @ New York Giants
Date: Sunday, October 9th, 1:00 ET
Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
NFL Lines: New York -9.5
Over/Under 43
Week 5 NFL TV Schedule: FOX

Last week, we took the points with the Seahawks, knowing that they were going to play a strong game at home against an Atlanta team that we just don’t think is all that good. However, now that Seattle has to fly across the country, this is a totally different story. The G-Men have quietly put together three really strong efforts since getting beaten by the Redskins on the road in Week 1. Their defense is steadily improving, and QB Eli Manning is looking more and more comfortable in the pocket even though he really only has two healthy receivers to throw to. The Seahawks are just downright dreadful right now. QB Tarvaris Jackson isn’t a legit starter in the NFL, and we tend to think that he is going to be picked off at least two or three times in this game. Seattle isn’t sticking within double digits if that’s the case.

Week 5 NFL Pick: New York -9.5

Week 5 NFL Matchup: Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ San Francisco 49ers
Date: Sunday, October 9th, 4:15 ET
Location: Candlestick Park, San Francisco, CA
NFL Lines: San Francisco -2.5
Over/Under 41.5
Week 5 NFL TV Schedule: FOX

Perhaps if this game were played in a different week, we’d feel differently about the whole thing. That being said though, we just don’t like the spot that the Bucs are in. They played on Monday Night Football in a long, hard fought game against the Colts, and now, they have go clear across the country to play against a San Francisco team that is as high as a kite right now after knocking off the Eagles on the road last week. It’s just a bad spot for the Bucs to be in. We wouldn’t be totally shocked to see Tampa Bay ultimately get the win, but we don’t see it happening more than 40 percent of the time.

Week 5 NFL Pick: San Francisco -2.5

Week 5 NFL Matchup: New York Jets @ New England Patriots
Date: Sunday, October 9th, 4:15 ET
Location: Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA
NFL Lines: New England -7.5
Over/Under 48.5
Week 5 NFL TV Schedule: CBS

The Patriots are clearly the better team in this game, and they are going to prove it with a romp on Sunday. The Jets, just like the Steelers, have a major, major problem across the offensive line. The good news is that Nick Mangold is going to be back in the fold in all likelihood. The bad news is that he’s still only 20 percent of that line. New York has this knack of winning here in Foxboro during the playoffs, but QB Tom Brady hasn’t put up number like these since New England went 16-0 in the regular season in 2008. He is clearly dialed in and is on a mission. The Jets are only going to be a footnote in all of that. Don’t be shocked if this number is covered by the end of the first quarter and is never threatened again.

Week 5 NFL Pick: New England -7.5

College football betting action is here again! Here at Cappers Info, we’re making our running tally of NCAA football picks this year, continuing with action on Saturday, October 1st!

Year To Date Record: 26-20 ATS

Upset Record: 5-8 +$185

Week 5 College Football Matchup: Air Force Falcons @ Navy Midshipmen
Date: Saturday, October 1st, 12:00 ET
Location: Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis, MD
College Football Lines: Navy -3.5
Over/Under 54
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: CBS College Sports

If you like the triple option, this is definitely the game for you! Both Air Force and Navy know all about each other and their offensive styles, but one of these teams is clearly in better shape than the other right now. The Falcons are terribly banged up across the defensive line, arguably the most important part of the team when defending the triple option. That being said, that could really open some holes for a Navy team that has been off for two weeks since nearly upsetting South Carolina on the road. This is a very, very winnable game for the Middies, and especially at home, we think that they get the job done in fine fashion.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: Navy -3.5

Week 5 College Football Matchup: Rutgers Scarlet Knights @ Syracuse Orange
Date: Saturday, October 1st, 12:00 ET
Location: Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY
College Football Lines: Syracuse -1
Over/Under 49
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: Local TV

The Orange escaped last week in a game that they had no business winning against Toledo, while Rutgers survived a challenge from Ohio. Here’s the question that we have for the Scarlet Knights, though: Are you really any good this year? Save for WR Mohamed Sanu, we just don’t see all that much talent on this team. The ‘Cuse have won two in a row in this series after getting crippled for years by the Scarlet Knights, and we tend to think that the magic that occurs in the Carrier Dome on a regular basis will carry over to another win for the hosts on Saturday afternoon.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: Syracuse -1

Week 5 College Football Matchup: Bowling Green Falcons @ West Virginia Mountaineers
Date: Saturday, October 1st, 3:30 ET
Location: Mountaineer Field, Morgantown, WV
College Football Lines: West Virginia -18.5
Over/Under 61
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: Local TV

Once again, last week we faded Bowling Green with no success on the road against Miami (OH), but this time around, it is definitely a “get better” spot for the Mountaineers. This is a BGSU team that just isn’t all that good even though it is 3-1, knowing that that one loss came against a Wyoming team that was just smacked at home by four scores against a Nebraska squad that isn’t as good as West Virginia (forget about what the rankings say). Don’t be shocked if QB Geno Smith goes absolutely bananas on this defense and puts up a humongous day.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: West Virginia -18.5

Week 5 College Football Matchup: Nevada Wolf Pack @ Boise State Broncos
Date: Saturday, October 1st, 2:30 ET
Location: Bronco Stadium, Boise, ID
College Football Lines: Boise State -27
Over/Under 60
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: Versus

It is officially payback time for the Broncos. Nevada has already played in this type of position once this year, getting racked by Oregon 69-20 in Autzen. This trip could be even more difficult, especially against a Boise team that the Wolf Pack beat last year. The last two times that Nevada traveled to the Smurf Turf, they put up 33 points and 67 points and lost both times. This time around, it isn’t getting anywhere near that. Even scoring 30 might not be enough to take care of the number against this Boise offense. Points should be hitting the board in bunches, and we’re going to make the two relatively square plays against the Wolf Pack.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: Boise State -27 & Over 60

Week 5 College Football Matchup: Michigan State Spartans @ Ohio State Buckeyes
Date: Saturday, October 1st, 3:30 ET
Location: Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH
College Football Lines: Ohio State -3.5
Over/Under 44
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: ABC

Here we go again… Ranked team an underdog on the road against an unranked team… The Buckeyes are clearly the better team in this game, and we know that they are going to come out and show it this weekend. Michigan State is a train wreck, as demonstrated by that bad loss at Notre Dame two weeks ago and the “closer than it should have been” game against Florida Atlantic. QB Braxton Miller is clearly the better of the Buckeyes quarterbacks, and he should have a respectable day against a suspect Spartans ‘D’. The honeymoon as a Top 25 team is over once and for all for Head Coach Mark Dantonio and company.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: Ohio State -3.5

Week 5 College Football Matchup: Washington Huskies @ Utah Utes
Date: Saturday, October 1st, 7:00 ET
Location: Rice Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, UT
College Football Lines: Utah -10
Over/Under 55
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: MTN

The Huskies clearly aren’t the better team in this game, but we aren’t so sure that they don’t have the goods to keep this a one score game on Saturday. QB Keith Price is no Jake Locker, but he is smart enough to get the pigskin to WR Jermaine Kearse on a regular basis. We also can plainly see that RB Chris Polk has the goods to be a 100+ yard back every single time out. The only time that the Utes were tested in the Pac-12 this year, they were blown away by USC. This is the type of game that a team that hopes to be a legitimate national power in the coming years should be able to win and win without any issues. We don’t think that the Utes are quite ready for that level yet. They’ll win, but it won’t be easy.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: Washington +10

Week 5 College Football Matchup: Mississippi State Bulldogs @ Georgia Bulldogs
Date: Saturday, October 1st, 12:00 ET
Location: Sanford Stadium, Athens, GA
College Football Lines: Georgia -7
Over/Under 52.5
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: SEC Network

Side bar: Did you know that Mississippi State hasn’t played in a game yet this year that involved anything but Tigers or Bulldogs? That might be a little known fact, but what isn’t a little known fact is that Head Coach Mark Richt is in a lot of trouble. He’s probably out the door not too long after the Florida/Georgia game if that one is lost, and a loss in this one wouldn’t help his cause any. That being said, we do tend to think that UGA has a good chance at surviving against a solid Mississippi State club, but we also know that these Bulldogs from the West have some bite. This one could go either way. Take the points for sure.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: Mississippi State +7

Week 5 College Football Matchup: Baylor Bears @ Kansas State Wildcats
Date: Saturday, October 1st, 3:30 ET
Location: Bill Snyder Family Memorial Stadium, Manhattan, KS
College Football Lines: Baylor -3.5
Over/Under 64
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: ESPN3.com

It’s time for some R-E-S-P-E-C-T for the Wildcats. They really were a lot more impressive last year than one would have thought, and we tend to think that they are going to hang around against some of the big boys in the Big XII this year. That being said, forget about Baylor’s rating. The Bears are not one of the big boys. QB Robert Griffin III is great, but he hasn’t had a history of winning games on the road with regularity. This is a hungry, hungry team in purple that he’ll run across on Saturday, and we’re just not so sure that the Bears are going to be able to survive. It’s a prime upset pick, but we’ll take the points instead, just to be safe.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: Kansas State +3.5

Week 5 College Football Matchup: Clemson Tigers @ Virginia Tech Hokies
Date: Saturday, October 1st, 6:00 ET
Location: Lane Stadium, Blacksburg, VA
College Football Lines: Virginia Tech -7
Over/Under 50.5
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: ESPN2

One of the best games on the board in our opinion this week. The Hokies are the real deal this year, and QB Logan Thomas and company deserve to be ranked in the Top 10 in the land. This team has a passing attack that just doesn’t quit, and though V-Tech often ends up playing down to the level of its opponent, there is no looking down this week considering the fact that Clemson now has back to back wins against Top 25 teams. That being said, are the Tigers really that good? Beating Auburn might not look all that great by season’s end, and Florida State came into Death Valley without its starting quarterback and several other starters. The Tigers still have a long, long road ahead to make it to the ACC Championship Game, but we think that that road gets derailed this week with a brutal beat down at Lane Stadium.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: Virginia Tech -7

It’s a Beehive State battle on Friday night, as for the second straight week, the BYU Cougars will be showcased at home in the ESPN NCAA football betting affair against the Utah State Aggies.

Year To Date Record: 25-20 ATS

Upset Record: 5-8 +$185

Week 5 College Football Matchup: Utah State Aggies @ BYU Cougars
Date: Friday, September 30th, 8:00 ET
Location: Lavell Edwards Stadium, Provo, UT
College Football Lines: BYU -8
Over/Under 49.5
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: ESPN

We’re a bit concerned about how this line pans out here for the Cougars. BYU knows that it was a three point favorite against the UCF Knights last week as two point favorites in a game that easily could have gone either way. Now, the oddsmakers are saying the Aggies, who are from a significantly worse conference and are just a 1-2 team, are only getting five more points than UCF was… Scary, eh?

The truth of the matter is that the Aggies are indeed good enough to win this game, as they were last year when they beat the Cougs in Logan. That being said, these are both significantly better teams. QB Jake Heaps was just named the starting quarterback for BYU as a frosh, while QB Diondre Borel was a senior and one of the best players that the Aggies have seen in quite some time. Now though, it is QB Chuckie Keaton for USU that is the freshman, though he has had three relatively successful starts to start off his career.

There’s just something fishy about BYU in this game. This theoretically should be the easiest game that this team has had all year long, but we aren’t so sure that we see it that way. The Aggies could be primed for an upset.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: Utah State +8

Big East betting action continues on Thursday night with two teams that think they are going to continue for the BCS. The South Florida Bulls will take on the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Year To Date Record: 25-20 ATS

Upset Record: 5-8 +$185

Week 5 College Football Matchup: South Florida Bulls @ Pittsburgh Panthers
Date: Thursday, September 29th, 8:00 ET
Location: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA
College Football Lines: South Florida -2.5
Over/Under 51.5
Week 5 College Football TV Schedule: ESPN

This one should be easy, right? The Bulls beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish up in Week 1 on the road. The Panthers were just beaten at home by that same Notre Dame team. So, theoretically, USF should just be able to stomp U-Pitt, right?

We’re just not all that sure. Pittsburgh hasn’t beaten anybody this year, but it hasn’t been beaten by terrible competition either. A narrow home loss last week against Notre Dame wasn’t the end of the world, especially knowing that the Irish are a significantly different team with QB Tommy Rees under center instead of QB Dayne Crist, who took the reins in Week 1 against the Bulls. And before that, a narrow loss at the Iowa Hawkeyes came only after an epic collapse.

Plus, who has USF really played? We’ve already mentioned that the Irish are a significantly different looking team now than they were in Week 1, and the rest of this schedule has been paper thin. Sure, Head Coach Skip Holtz has this program going in the right direction, but it’s not there yet. There’s no way that QB BJ Daniels is going to be averaging over 250 passing yards per game, nor will he end up with anywhere near an 8/1 TD/INT ratio at season’s end. The schedule is just starting to get difficult for the Bulls. Pittsburgh will prove that on Thursday night.

Week 5 NCAA Football Pick: Pittsburgh +2.5

BC Lions @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers Picks
Week 5 CFL Odds: Winnipeg -3.5
CFL Week 5 Lines: Over/Under 52.5

How many more bad, bad games can the BC defense have? Dating back to last season, that’s five straight with at least 30 points allowed, a number which is just inexcusable. QB Buck Pierce has proven to stay healthy for four weeks now, something that he has had a hard time doing in the past, and he would love nothing more than to stick it to the team that gave up on him two years ago and plunge it deeper into obscurity. We still think that Winnipeg is the real deal, and it could contend for the Grey Cup. We just don’t see BC doing the same right now. The slow start for the Leos continues. Free CFL Picks: Winnipeg -3.5

Montreal Alouettes @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats Picks
Week 5 CFL Odds: OTB
CFL Week 5 Lines: Over/Under OTB

The Ti-Cats probably feel really good about themselves right now. After all, they’re coming off of two straight wins, both of which have including at least 33 points on the board, and they are clicking on just about all of their cylinders. Hamilton is now taking on Montreal for a chance to take the lead in the East Division, and there is a good possibility that QB Anthony Calvillo won’t be there for the proceedings. Even if he is, this is a Hamilton team that absolutely blew the doors off of the Alouettes in the last meeting of last season right here at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Not so fast my friends. QB Adrian McPherson looked a lot better against Saskatchewan last week after he was really given a chance to get into the flow of the game, and with a week of practice under his belt with his first teamers, we have no doubt at all that he will have the ability to take down a team which we still really don’t think is all that great. Free CFL Picks: Montreal

Toronto Argonauts @ Edmonton Eskimos Picks
Week 5 CFL Odds: Edmonton -9
CFL Week 5 Lines: Over/Under 50

Isn’t there a point that you would figure we would learn and start backing Edmonton? This is the week. The Eskimos are coming off of that emotional upset against the Stamps. We know that they didn’t play at their finest, but Toronto has its share of problems as well. Its secondary is all banged up at this point, something that QB Ricky Ray has to be licking his chops about, and QB Cleo Lemon likely isn’t going to play with a tooth injury. For lack of better terms, QB Dalton Bell just flat out sucks. He isn’t leading the Double Blue to anything but a horrible defeat on Friday night in the second half of the CFL double dip. Free CFL Picks: Edmonton -9

Calgary Stampeders @ Saskatchewan Roughriders Picks
Week 5 CFL Odds: Calgary -2.5
CFL Week 5 Lines: Over/Under 53.5

Best play of the week by far. The Roughriders clearly turned a corner last week when they took out Montreal on the road. Yeah, yeah, we hear you. The Als didn’t have QB Anthony Calvillo for almost three quarters. Still, the Alouettes didn’t get anything going offensively even with AC in there. Calgary just doesn’t look right, and in spite of the fact that it was able to run up and down the field against Edmonton last week, there were only 19 points scored. We just don’t see how the Stamps are going to go on the road at the Sea of Green and take out a hungry Saskatchewan side that finally has gotten its confidence back. I am the Gridiron Great, and I have been handicapping the NFL for a number of years. I've learned the ins and outs of what it takes to beat the bookies at this game, and I know just how difficult it can be. Do you think you can beat me at my own game? Every week that you do, you'll be entered into a grand prize drawing at the end of the season for a $1,000 Oddsmaker Sportsbook account. Even if you don't beat me though, you can still collect a $100 account from Oddsmaker just by having the most picks correct amongst Cappers Info readers.

There is no greater time to try to get into this competition than right now, as every week you beat me gives you another opportunity at that big cash prize at the end of the year. Let's get started right now with my Week 5 picks…

Denver Broncos (+7) @ Baltimore Ravens – Last week, the Broncos were a great choice for me, as they came through with the outright upset and were never behind the line against the Tennessee Titans. This week is a wee different, though. I never like teams playing in their second straight road game, particularly halfway across the country, and especially with the level of physicality that these two games will be played at. Baltimore, unlike Tennessee, has a fantastic secondary. In fact, that unit ranks No. 1 in football. QB Kyle Orton will be crying by the time this game is over. I'm banking on Baltimore -7.

Jacksonville Jaguars (pk) @ Buffalo Bills – I'm not even commenting on this game. I can only hope that something happens to QB David Garrard and that QB Trent Edwards gets to come into the game and beat the snot out of the team that just cut him. Jacksonville pk.

Kansas City Chiefs (+8) @ Indianapolis Colts – The oddsmakers don't know what they're doing in this game, save trying to trick you! They could've put Indy at -21, and there would still be suckers lining up to beat on it left and right. However, remember that S Melvin Bullitt is now out for the season as well, joining S Bob Sanders on the shelf. The Colts really don't have any good options at safety, and they still clearly haven't gotten their left tackle situation figured out as of yet. Oh, don't you worry. QB Peyton Manning isn't letting his Colts lose this game. But you watch… KC will nail the backdoor. Chiefs +8.

Detroit Lions (-3) vs. St. Louis Rams – In one corner, we have the Rams and their No. 1 overall draft pick, QB Sam Bradford. In the other corner, we have the backup for the previous No. 1 overall draft pick, QB Matt Stafford. Still, the Lions are moving the football right now, and it only seems like a matter of time before they get into the win column this year. I love what HC Steve Spagnuolo has done with the Rams this year, but the oddsmakers have made the Lions favorites in this one for a reason. I'm sticking with my guns and going with Detroit -3.

Cleveland Browns (+3) vs. Atlanta Falcons – Didn't we learn anything last week from when the Browns were three point pups at home and successfully beat the Cincinnati Bengals? The Falcons aren't this good. They're good. But not this good. The Dawg Pound is a horror to play in regardless of whether the Brownies are 16-0 or 0-16. For the second straight week, it's a mega sucker bet to back the visitors and the so called "better team." Go with the Brownies +3.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+6.5) @ Cincinnati Bengals – You ever just have a gut shot on something and know that you should go with it? The Bucs are off a bye week. The Bengals are off of a bad, bad performance in Cleveland. Hmm… Tampa Bay +6.5.

Chicago Bears (-1.5) @ Carolina Panthers – What an ugly game this is… The only good news for the Bears is that they still have one of the best rushing defenses in the NFL, and as long as this holds true, the Panthers don't stand a chance of moving the football. Is Jimmy Clausen waking up the echoes? Oh wait, that was his job at Notre Dame… Chicago -1.5

Green Bay Packers (-2.5) @ Washington Redskins – This just feels like a game that the Packers are going to win. Washington's secondary just isn't as good as it played last week against the Philadelphia Eagles, and if that's the case, QB Aaron Rodgers is going to have a field day. I know that the Pack don't have a running game to speak of, but in this situation, I trust that Rodgers will do his job, and the Redskins will realize that they just aren't that good. Sticking with Green Bay -2.5.

Houston Texans (-3) vs. New York Giants – WR Andre Johnson is still nursing an injury, but he might be back on the field on Sunday. One man that we do know will be back is LB Brian Cushing, who is now finished serving his suspension for those illegal whatever it was that he was taking! The G-Men have a good perception after last week's beat down of the Bears… but this isn't Chicago… nor is it at home… nor is it against a team that is vastly overrated… Houston -3.

Arizona Cardinals (+7) vs. New Orleans Saints – If the Saints can't beat the Panthers by two scores, why in the heck do they think that they're going to go on the road and beat Arizona by two scores? We know that perception is bad on Arizona thanks to the fact that it was blown away twice this year on the road, but this one isn't on the road. It's at home. And after all, they are who we thought they were! Arizona +7

Oakland Raiders (+6.5) vs. San Diego Chargers – For all of your Survivor Pool suckers, remember my words of advice in this game… Don't do it. You just know that you want to take San Diego, but you can't do it. There are games like these, particularly before the calendar hits November, which the Bolts tend to blow. Don't be shocked… I'm not sayin'… I'm just sayin'… Oakland +6.5

Tennessee Titans (+6.5) @ Dallas Cowboys – Last week was a bad matchup for the Titans, but the Cowboys present a much more reasonable counterpart this Sunday, especially when you consider the fact that Dallas is the team laying the 6.5 points this week. The Cowboys are still one dimensional, and that dimension is the pass, the same dimension that beat the Titans last week. However, RB Chris Johnson could find more holes in this front seven than he did against Denver's. This is a big, big game for both teams, as neither can really afford another loss right now and still stay alive in their division races. This should be a close one either way, so I'm taking Tennessee +6.5.

San Francisco 49ers (-3) vs. Philadelphia EaglesRemember to make your tiebreaker picks in this game!!! Man, even the oddsmakers know that the Eagles are losing this game. When you see an 0-4 team against a division leader, and that winless team is laying points, you know that something is up. Don't fall into the QB Kevin Kolb trap. San Fran is rolling. Niners -3
