March Madness free picks are one of our top specialties this time of year here at Cappers Info, and we have another great one on the NCAA Tournament schedule on Friday night. The #16 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the #1 Kansas Jayhawks will meet in the Round of 64 in the South Region, and we’re breaking down the NCAA basketball betting lines for the clash.

South Region Picks: #16 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers vs. #1 Kansas Jayhawks
Date: Friday, March 22nd, 9:50 ET
South Region Location: Sprint Center, Kansas City, MO
Western Kentucky vs. Kansas Live on TV: TNT

Round of 64 Betting Lines
#16 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers +19.5
#1 Kansas Jayhawks -19.5
Over/Under 132.5

It’s not all that often that you send a message by beating up a No. 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but we think that Kansas is going to try to do just that when push comes to shove on Friday night to wrap up the first full round of the dance. The Jayhawks play stifling defense, and though they have a history of playing poorly in games similar to these, rarely do they come against teams that are so overmatched. As long as C Jeff Withey stays out of foul trouble, there is absolutely no equal and no one anywhere close to his size and skillset that the Hilltoppers are going to bring to the table. Those who want to support the men in orange would be quick to point out that leading scorer, G TJ Price didn’t play in the bad loss to VCU, and he only scored two points in the brutal defeat to Louisville. However, we just don’t see this one happening. Kansas has the depth and the goods to put this game on the backburner in a heartbeat. It has covered 10 out of 11, and as we have seen in the past this year, when this team is good, it can be incredibly good. Head Coach Bill Self isn’t going to want to take his foot off of the gas pedal with bigger games to come ahead.

Western Kentucky vs. Kansas Free Pick: Kansas -19.5

If you like surprises, this has been the tournament for you. Western Kentucky has fought through three games in three nights to get to the finale of the Sun Belt Tournament, while Florida International just bounced what might have been the biggest favorite to win a conference tournament in the country this year, the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders just last night. Can either of these teams muster up the goods to be able to win this rubber match between the two? The home team won both of the games this year when these two met, and they were both very odd games that weren’t quite indicative of what we are expecting to see in this one. We think that the pace is going to be awfully slow, and the shooting will be sloppy from the get go. A lot of the conference finals are low scoring games in these tournaments just due to pure exhaustion, and this is going to be the prime example of it. Don’t be shocked if this one doesn’t even sniff 120 points. We’ll pick WKU to move on to the dance, but we think that the ‘under’ is the far better play to make.

Western Kentucky vs. Florida International Pick: Under
Sun Belt Final Prediction: Western Kentucky 62 – Florida International 57

I’ve been studying the ‘total’ for the Little Caesars Bowl odds for quite some time, and I’m ready to make my Little Caesars Bowl picks for the clash between the Central Michigan Chippewas and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The Western Kentucky vs. Central Michigan kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Ford Field in Detroit, MI, and I’m going to show you which way to bet on college football to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

2012 Little Caesars Bowl
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (7-5, 8-4 ATS) -5.5
Central Michigan Chippewas (6-6, 5-7 ATS) +5.5
Over/Under 57.5

It shouldn’t be considered all that surprising that the early bowl games have seemingly all gone past the ‘total’. As a result, some of the bowl games are featuring rising ‘totals’. This is one of these games that has gotten just a bit too high in my eyes, and I think that this is a game that is just inflated too high.

The Hilltoppers only averaged 28.8 points per game this year, and down the stretch, they didn’t score more than 29 points in a game over the course of their last five outings. They probably shouldn’t be in a bowl game, but in fairness, Central Michigan really shouldn’t either. The Chippewas averaged 29.2 points per game this year, but they had a woeful defense that really cost them against some of the best teams in the MAC. There is some talent on this team for sure, knowing that QB Ryan Radcliff is a three-year starting quarterback and RB Zurlon Tipton accounted for 20 TDs on the campaign. Western Kentucky is going to be playing under a lot of stress with Head Coach Bobby Petrino watching from the stands, ready to take over the team after this one is said and done with.

I really just don’t think much of the Chippewas in this game. They averaged just 21.8 points per game against bowl teams this year, while Western Kentucky averaged just 23.8 points per game against bowl games in 2012. Granted, we probably should take out the game against the Alabama Crimson Tide in which WKU was shut out. They averaged 31.7 points per game in the other three outings, but even if you add these two numbers together, I just don’t see this one getting to the number. I expect to see this game getting into the low-50s or so.

Date: Wednesday, December 26th, 7:30 ET
Location: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
Little Caesars Bowl Betting Odds: Western Kentucky -5.5
Western Kentucky vs. Central Michigan Live TV: ESPN

This is a game that truly drives us crazy, knowing that neither of these teams had any business being in a bowl game this year. That being said, we’re stuck at this point handicapping this awful game, and we have no choice but to look over two teams that really had very little good going for them over the course of the season. Western Kentucky played the more difficult of these two schedules, but the team lost four of its last six games to finish out the campaign at 7-5. Still, that was good enough to come to a bowl game this year for the first time in school history.

Bovada Sportsbook

The Chippies are back for the first time in a bowl game since 2010, but they clearly don’t deserve it and would have been left out any other year after going 6-6 and clearly being no more than the seventh best team in the MAC. That being said, this is a team that does have the ability to score some points at times, as RB Zurlon Tipton and QB Ryan Radcliffe are both solid players. Tipton rushed for 1,391 yards and 19 TDs on the campaign, and Radcliffe threw for 2,895 yards and 20 scores against nine picks. Radcliff is making his final start as a senior, and he needs another 105 yards to reach the 3,000 yard mark for the third straight year.

In the end, we’re going to take Central Michigan and the points in this game because we think that both of these teams stink. Yes, the Hilltoppers are going to be amped up, knowing that they are about to be coached by a legitimate SEC caliber coach in Bobby Petrino and that they are playing in a bowl game for the very first time. However, this game is played at Ford Field, and the little “home field advantage” there will be will be held by the Chippewas. We do think that WKU is going to win this game, but in the end, we still want the points on our side.

Western Kentucky vs. Central Michigan Pick: Central Michigan Chippewas +5.5
Little Caesars Bowl Score Prediction: Western Kentucky 27 – Central Michigan 24

BovadaThe Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are set to kick off their college football clash on Thursday 11/1, and I’m set to make my college football pick for the affair at Houchens Industries L.T. Smith Stadium. Kickoff is set for 9:15 ET, and I’ve got the perfect NCAA football pick for this outstanding clash.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (5-3, 5-3 ATS) +9
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (6-2, 7-1 ATS) -9
Over/Under 54

Points were at a premium last week when Western Kentucky beat Florida International, and that has probably dropped the ‘total’ in this game quite a bit. However, that game had to be played in wet conditions on a sloppy field after Hurricane Sandy flirted the Florida coastline, and that really has let this become a very, very favorable ‘over’ to play.

Between QB Logan Kilgore and QB Kawaun Jakes, there have been a heck of a lot of passes thrown and a ton of games both won and lost. If you take out the games against the teams from the Big Six conferences this year, the Hilltoppers are averaging almost 450 yards per game on the campaign to go with over 35 points per game. Meanwhile, throw out the game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs for the Blue Raiders, and they’re good for just about 450 yards per game as well, not to mention over 33 points per game.

Some recent history suggests plenty of points as well. There were almost 900 yards of total offense in last year’s 69-point effort between these two teams, and three years ago, there were right around 900 yards and 86 total points. It’s a great spot for a ton of points to go on the board for both sides, and that’s exactly what I think is going to happen.

5Dimes SportsbookOne of my favorite plays on the Week 7 Thursday college football odds pits the Troy Trojans against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. These two are going to be meeting at 7:30 p.m. ET at Veterans Memorial Stadium, and I’m going to show you which side to make your CFB pick on for this great game.

#20 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (4-1, 5-0 ATS) -2
Troy Trojans (3-2, 4-1 ATS) +2
Over/Under Off

The Trojans and the Hilltoppers are going to be two of the teams that are fighting for bowl bids this year out of the Sun Belt, and this is a game that is going to be crucial for deciding which one of these is going to have the upper hand on the other for the rest of the season. The Trojans are already 2-1 in the Sun Belt this year, but they are chasing the Hilltoppers, who are 1-0.

This is going to be a game where I already foresee a lot of sharps on the Trojans. Western Kentucky is going to be looked upon as that team that beat an SEC team on the road (though it was just Kentucky), and it has won three straight, including a road game at Arkansas State just a week and a half ago. Troy will be looked at as the club that just barely squeaked by North Texas and UAB, and lost at home to Louisiana Lafayette.

However, off of a bye week, the Trojans are historically awesome. They’re 8-1 ATS in their last nine in this spot, and QB Corey Robinson and company should be able to put up oodles of points against a defense that has to be overrated. Western Kentucky is just 1-4 ATS in its last five games played on turf, and this could be a tough one when push comes to shove. Go with the Trojans to win what should be a remarkable game between two very underrated teams. I know that all eyes will be on Colorado and Arizona State on Thursday, but this is the game that I just can’t wait to see.

Western Kentucky @ Troy Tips: Troy +2

The first day of bracket predictions are here for the NCAA Tournament, and today, we are going to be taking a look at the First Four games to be played in Dayton.

NCAA Tournament Matchup: Western Kentucky Hilltoppers vs. Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils
Date: Tuesday, March 13th, 6:30 ET
Location: UD Arena, Dayton, OH
March Madness Odds: Western Kentucky -4.5
NCAA Tournament TV Schedule: truTV

The Hilltoppers are getting a heck of a lot of love here because of how hot they have been coming into this tournament. Sure, this is a team that got a lot done over the course of the last few months, but how could we really say that MSVS hasn’t as well? This is a team that had just one win out of conference thanks to the fact that it played a schedule that would have made any team cry. Now, 20 wins later, the Delta Devils are here in the dance, and we think that they are absolutely being overlooked. We think that they are going to take down Western Kentucky and get into the main field on Thursday.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Mississippi Valley State +4.5

NCAA Tournament Matchup: Iona Gaels vs. BYU Cougars
Date: Tuesday, March 13th, 9:00 ET
Location: UD Arena, Dayton, OH
March Madness Odds: BYU -2
NCAA Tournament TV Schedule: truTV

There is a whole heck of a lot of talk that Iona had no business being in this tournament. On the eye test though, we think that the Gaels are absolutely a worthwhile team that could do a lot of damage beyond just here in Dayton. Was BYU a team that was worthy of being in the dance? We’re not really all that sure. Remember, this team really didn’t play much of a schedule this year either, and in five games combined against Gonzaga and St. Mary’s, there was just one win to show for it. Iona’s win over Nevada in BracketBusters gives us a heck of a lot of confidence about this game. Scott Machado and the gang are going to prove why the Gaels are dancing by taking care of the Cougars in Dayton on Tuesday.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Iona +2
