It’s a bad time to be in the A-10. Teams like Butler and VCU are starting to slip just a bit, and the middle part of the pack in the conference has been beating each other up badly to the point that none of these teams are anywhere near locks for the NCAA Tournament, and some even for the NIT. Xavier is one of these teams that could be headed for trouble. The perennial NCAA Tournament contenders are just 15-11 with a middling set of computer rankings, but all four of their final games of the regular season are going to come against contenders that could really boost the resume. The team covered against the VCU Rams on Saturday, but covering and losing doesn’t do any good when you’re the Selection Committee analyzes you. Meanwhile, Memphis went from a fringe bubble team to one that probably is in the NCAA Tournament without doing anything else. The Tigers are roaring over the course of their last seven games, as they are 7-0 SU, 5-2 ATS, and have averaged 82.4 points per game in that stretch after averaging just 73.2 points per game in their first 20 games of the campaign. The challenges haven’t been the best in C-USA though, and when you look back at what this team did in the non-conference season, there are losses to Louisville, Minnesota, and yes, that same VCU team as well. We’ll take X-Men on Tuesday night in hopes for the upset.
Memphis vs. Xavier Pick: Xavier Musketeers +5
Memphis vs. Xavier Prediction: Xavier 72 – Memphis 68
