We're finally getting a decent amount of flooding here. It won't affect me personally but I've spent some time when I'm not at working helping with sandbagging n stuff. I'm to young to fully remember the flood of 93 but this is ridiculous all the same.

Too young to remember a flood in 1993??? How old are you? I mean, I guess that was 15 years ago.

I'm 23 now, I was 8 during the flood of 93. I remember some of it, like bathing outside with pans n stuff. And not having running water n stuff. But not a whole lot.

Downtown Des Moines is being evacuated now :/ waters on the Des Moines River are to crest higher than 93 totals tonight

Crazy weather here in the midwest.. especially Iowa. Wasn't it just last week that Parkersburg had the F5 tornado and was almost wiped off the map?? 2 days ago that scout camp gets hit with a tornado, all the while the state is being flooded.. and the people in the Parkersburg area just keep getting hit over and over with storms. Makes you feel bad for the folks, even as some of my personal friends houses are being flooded. Luckily I am far enough from the district I should be all right.

Yes crazy weather, my city is on the Illinois River but I'm clear on the other side of town. Just wondering if we'll be seeing some flooding in the next few days.

Hey onestyles. Ya the big tornado was only 40 miles south from me. Very devistating for this side of the state. It rains here all the time, but luckily no flooding. Man you guys, Cedar Rapids and Cedar Falls are getting crushed. Saw some footage on TV and it looks really bad.

Talked to a guy today that was cleaning up the tornado site and he said you would not believe the devistation. He said the four scouts that died were taking shelter and a truck crashed into the top of the chimney crushing the kids inside the shelter.

Take care, and please NO MORE RAIN.

good to hear that you are doing fine. the waters are receding here, our downtown did not get hit as bad as they had thought we would.. something about a faulty reading or instrument or some kind of bs?? i have no idea. all that technology and they cant win the freaking powerball, common now :p

i guess CR is still really bad.. i have a buddy who just moved here from vermont that i work with who was up there helping sandbag overnight on friday, to no avail it got flooded when the levee broke on saturday.. on his way back on highway 30 he got hit by that (F3 I think??) tornado. he has some footage of it, ill get you the youtube link when he gets it, his brother uploaded it this morning.. i saw the footage from his phone though, holy cow. you can clearly see when he is in the eye and when it starts passing, it was nuts. luckily as it hit they planted their truck under an overpass as i guess the storm was trying to tear their trailor off their pickup. there are also some pictures that they took from after it, cars in ditches, silo overturned, etc. nuts. well see how long he lasts til he moves back :)

man the folks in cedar rapids, waterloo, cedar falls and now iowa city and the university of iowa campus.. tough times. plus i keep thinking of the parkersburg folks. hard times for that section of the state lately.. hopefully it all continues clearing soon and the state can come together in repairing what has happened to us. kind of amazing how perfect strangers and even people who dont care for each other are coming together in this time of need to sandbag and help clear homes huh?? makes you wonder why we cant join as brothers and sisters every day of the week.
