Two good ones for tonight...
(NHL) Pittsburgh@Montreal
1* Montreal -0.5 -145
The 0-1-1 Penguins look to be in for another long season after last year's salary dump. They don't have much offensive depth behind Mario, and the weak D assures their young goalies will have their work cut out for them. Sebastian Caron (2.65 GAA, .916 SP in 25 career games) gets the start tonight, while rookie Marc Fleury is scheduled to start Saturday. The Montreal offense is looking good even as they await the return of Saku Koivu. They are scoring on 13.6% of their shots on goal, and have a 4.5 GFA in their last 2 games. By comparison, Pittsburgh has just 3 goals in 2 games, with 8.8% shooting success. They've got a tough task tonight, as they try to get past Jose Theodore. He's stopped 37 of 38 shots in his last two games. Theo is 8-1-1 in his last 10 against Pittsburgh. Montreal is 6-0-2 in their last 8 as the hosts in this series, and 11-2-2 in the last 15 overall.
(NHL) Phoenix@Tampa Bay
1* Tampa Bay -0.5 -160
Tampa has just 1 game under their belts as they play host to the 3-0-0 Phoenix Coyotes. Tampa should once again be an offensive machine this year, and got off to a hot start this season, scoring 5 goals on 20.0% shooting to beat Boston. Nik Khabibulin stopped 29 of 30 shots. He was a killer at home last year with a 2.27 GAA and 19-7-6 record. He is 3-0-0 lifetime against Phoenix with a 0.67 GAA and .978 SP, including a 4-0 home win in the last meeting. Considering they don't have much of an offense, the Yotes can credit all of their early success to the play of goalie Sean Burke, who has allowed them to hold on in 3 low-scoring games. However, Brian Boucher gets the call tonight, as Phoenix plays this road game without rest. Boucher, never very good on the road, is 2-2 in 4 career games at Tampa, with a very poor 3.32 GAA and .855 SP. Burke will not even dress tonight, but will return to Arizona to prepare for Phily on Saturday. Without Burke, this shouldn't be much of a test for the high-flying Lightning. Tampa is 3-0-0 in the last 3 meetings, outscoring the Yotes 11-2.
