Preakness Speed Figures
Beyer Speed Figures
The Beyer Speed Figure is a rating assigned to every race by every horse in the United States and is incorporated in the Daily Racing Form past performances. It takes into account the time of a horse's performance and the inherent speed of the racing surface. The average winning figure for the Preakness is 110, but all of the entrants in this year's field fall far below that benchmark. Animal Kingdom, the best of the group from the speed-figure standpoint, won the Kentucky Derby with a 103, the second-lowest winning number for the race in the two decades that the figures have been published. Winning figures for the Preakness since 1991:

My conclusion:
History speaks for itself here with these Beyer Speed Figures. 19 of the last 20 winners have had ratings of 100+ (With the 1993 winner with a rating of 98 being the only sub-100 horse to win). We have 3 horses this year running in the Preakness with 100+ (Flashpoint 102, Sway Away 101, and Animal Kingdom 103).
For what its worth. Interesting numbers here though. Maybe a trifecta box on 4-6-11 is necessary.
