Early Belmont Looks
I guess it's not so "early" since the race goes tomorrow, but here goes nothing...
First off, here's a great little look at all of the horses by the "experts" in NY. Belmont Stakes Contenders
My take...
1: Dangerous horse. Loved the run in the Derby. Distance no problem. Travel for this horse is, though. Things's been back and forth to the UAE twice since the Derby.
2: Finished at least 11 lengths off the pace in L/3 G1 races. No thanks.
3: One stakes race in his life. Again, pass.
4: A decent run at the Derby, and some time off might help. If the distance proves to not be an issue, could be a contender.
5: Basically ran the same race at the Derby as Santiva. Turf horse with distance in his blood.
6: Don't like the price on Nehro, but I do recognize that this is a horse that is probably my biggest threat on the board.
7: Always love horses that run in the Peter Pan in this race instead of the Triple Crown races... but Monzon isn't anywhere near as good as his daddy, who won this race a number of years ago.
8: Placed a lot better in the Peter Pan than Monzon did. Prado has ridden this horse to three straight solid runs.
9: Though I know that Animal Kingdom is going to end up on the board, I just can't back him at this price.
10: Most mystifying horse in the race. Good price, but how many mulligans can this horse really get?
11: No, he isn't perfect. God knows wtf this horse is doing in this race.
12: No way will Shackleford make the distance. He'll lead for over a mile, but he'll finish outside of the Top 5 when it's said and done.
I'm kinda torn right now on 1-4-5-8-10 and really don't want to use all five of them. Might take Santiva out of the mix. Thoughts?
