The 'over' took another beating in Game 5 Thursday night when the San Francisco Giants hammered the Anaheim Angels 16-4. It was the third time in the last four tilts of this World Series the 'over' took the money and these clubs are combining for a hefty 11.2 runs per game.

Jeff Kent led the way for San Francisco with a pair of home runs and he crossed the plate four times. When the dust settled, six Giants finished with at least two hits and the same number collected at least two runs.

The Angels and Giants head back to Anaheim for Game 6, where the teams split the first two contests of the series. The Angels have picked up the loot in six of their seven postseason tilts at Edison Field, where they have the intangible benefit of the Rally Monkey.

Kevin Appier is expected to climb the hill for Anaheim Saturday night. The righthander is 1-0 in four starts this postseason and he's compiled a bloated 6.23 ERA. Appier opened on the mound in Game 2 and was chased out of the contest in the second inning after giving up five earned runs and three long balls. The veteran hasn't lasted more than five innings in these playoffs.

Russ Ortiz will get the nod for the Giants, and he is 2-0 in October with a generous 6.75 ERA. San Francisco has lost his last two starts, including Game 2, in which the righty gave up an embarrassing seven runs in just 1 1/3 innings. Ortiz has given up a lofty 11 runs over his past two outings and he was taken yard a combined three times in those efforts.

Ortiz will face a balanced Angels lineup that's pounding the Giants for a .328 average. He'll be backed by a San Francisco order that's hitting an improved .308. Barry Bonds is leading the way with an incredible .500 postseason mark. Troy Glaus is pacing the Angels with a .381 average and three homers and six RBIs.

Tim McClelland will call the balls and strikes in Game 6 and the home squad is a profitable 13-23 when he's the umpire this season. The 'over' holds a decent 19-14 margin for McClelland and teams are combining for 10.56 runs per game.

Over the past three seasons, the home club is 8-3 in meetings between these squads.
