Internet Gambling Ban Vote about to go down
Is anyone watching this on CSPAN? This is getting vicious....
Our grey area might not be so grey soon. -
-
Who has been following this bill? I am reading some very bad things...is neteller toast? The bill just passed and I am not sure if want to fund my online account anymore or just use my local....as I understand it is now illegal for the gambler/the sites/and any financial institution to be involved in internet gambling. It was always questionable under the old wire laws but kind of a grey area.My bank watches my transactions like crazy. They once took my atm card away b/c they linked it to use for funding an on line gambling website. I know that the minute this is signed by the prez... the first neteller transaction that shows up.. they will try to close my account or something. When I was trying to get phone wiring priveleges to fund my Ameritrade account the bank manager hinted that he suspected I really wanted it to fund an offshore gambling account (which was NOT the case) If anyone has been following this more closely than I have, please advise on anything you might know... I guess I can always change banks but that is such a hassle. I just know they will be among the first to enforce this b.s.

Well Bush signing it is a no brainer but I just didn't know if there was a tentative effective date...
-
-
has this already passed the senate?
if not... its got a ways to go.
-
-
Yes it has. From what I understand the Senate employed some procedural method to accept unanimously upon passage in the House... no recorded vote...
It's a done deal.

I have never even been questioned (once) and I have 10 accounts that I have funded before. Tell them you're going to another back and see what the bank manger thinks about that.

Let the dust settle and see what happens here. Don't panic yet.
What I dont understand is why Bodog and all these major sportsbooks don't lobby. They could have stopped this.

They don't lobby because they are theoretically not allowed on US soil. I know that Bodog, sportsbook.com, etc., have marketing agents in the states, but the owners of the books are somehow breaking the law if they are caught in the US. There was just a story about this on Outside The Lines. Let me know if I am wrong about this info.

This is why I went local. I used Mvp Sportsbook for years, and I never had a problem. I mean never. Quick payouts, deposits etc etc. Now I have a dime plus change in an account, and the site got shut down. It was affiliated with bet on sports. Now this message appears on the site.
The Board of Directors of BETonSPORTS plc announced that in the light of the Temporary Restraining Order issued by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, and the related Indictment issued by such Court, and after thoroughly reviewing possible alternative business plans, they no longer consider the US facing operations of the Company, which are based in Costa Rica and Antigua, to be viable.
The Directors have considered the impact of this conclusion and now intend that the Company should;
1. cease its operations in Costa Rica and Antigua as soon as practicable;
2. pay any liabilities to staff and creditors in an orderly manner; and;
3. repay balances due to US customers in an orderly manner.
Items 2 and 3 above will take time and their successful completion will depend upon the Company’s ability to persuade banks and cash processors to release its funds. It also will depend on the Company’s ability to realize further and sufficient funds from its assets and operations outside Costa Rica and Antigua and to earn sufficient profits from operations which are not US facing.
The Directors are taking steps to ensure that the Company will not knowingly accept any wagering transactions from US based customers.
Further information will be posted on this website once agreements are in place with the relevant parties.

I have contacted them many times, and have still not received my money. They said it's gonna take more time. I will never bet online again. This is only the start, eventually you wont be able to gamble online without risk. I mean you can't even wire money anymore.

Wow Borat.. Thanks for the heads up on what may be ahead. I like the online books for things such as teasers, 1/2 time lines etc that my guy doesn't offer, but it's not worth the risk of not being able to get your money out...
