download spybot, install it then let that run (it may take an hour depending on how much stuff you have on your drive).

It's free, and fairly effective.

ok, Squirrel, I am by no means a computer guy, but everytime my computer pisses me off, and runs slow, or gives me some bullshit, I do one or more of several things, and so far (knock on wood) any problem Ive ever had has been fixed...more or less.

I dont know the various difference between a Mac and a PC, or whatever, so if youre computer is drastically different than mine, then this stuff will sound like jibberish, and you wont be able to do it. But try these things......

by the way, go here for your porn. AskJolene Best site Ive found.

First thing I would do is take everything you dont want to lose and save it to a flash drive. If you dont have a flash drive, copy and paste everything, and send it as an email to yourself. (resumes, pictures of family, passwords, all that crap.) Your email is a good place to save files you want to keep for awhile, just in case your computer takes a random shit. Dont worry about saving things that are easily downloadable off the internet. Im talking about basic things that you need. When youre finished with that, you can start tinkering.

Solution #1 Right click on the spyware thing that pops up and try to delete it. Hopefully its just a thing that installed itself on your computer. Hopefully it will take you to the uninstall programs menu, or some internet site that will let you get rid of it. Uninstall whatever is making the thing pop up.

While youre trying to eff with that, go to yahoo answers and ask a question. Sometimes people are helpful on there, but it takes awhile for people to read and respond to you. Check back in an hour if you have to...

Solution #2 If you cant uninstall the thing, try Disk cleanup and disk defragmenter. Go to start menu- programs - accessories - system tools - disk clean up. Follow instructions. yes to delete cookies and temp internet files.
start menu- programs - accessories - system tools - disk defragmenter. Follow instructions. (these processes may take a few hours...)

Solution #3 Go to start menu - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore. Restore computer to earlier time/date. Pick a date BEFORE your computer started acting up and follow the instructions. (this is my favorite trick to outsmart my computer. It usually works.)

Solution #4 If that doesnt work, start menu - control panel - add or remove programs. Find everything that says it is "rarely" used and follow the directions to uninstall them. Restart your computer when youre done.

Solution #5 Get your firewall to block all pop-ups. I dont mess with my firewall too often, but this seems like a way to short circuit your problem.

Solution #6 Keep trying different things. Delete this...remove that. Youre on youre own here, but desperate times call for desperate measures. This is where its important to make sure youve saved everything you need to a flash drive or yur email. Because if you make a wrong move youll have to skip straight to solution #7. Anyway, Keep restarting your computer. when it starts up, pay attention to the instructions on how to get into the safe startup mode, and fuck up your computer mode. Go through all that and try different things. Hopefully youll accidentially delete the right thing, or alter your computer so that the thing wont pop up. Keep trying this shit for a few hours, when nothing works, and you get passed your pissed-off limit, go to solution #7.

Solution #7 Bomb your entire system. I dont remember how to do this, but Im sure you could look it up. This deletes everything youve ever had on your computer, and in fact you may need to reinstall a bunch of programs that came on cd's when you bought your computer. (hope you kept em.) This starts you completely over, and youll lose everything that you didnt previously save, including that pesky pop up bitch. Dedicate a few hours of your time to reinstalling a bunch of shit that you dont remember installing in the first place, and slowly rebuild your empire. Ive only had to resort to this once, and it was a huge pain in the ass, but it worked. At least it will save you 300 bucks!

Good luck man, let me know what works and doesnt work, and all.

I thought I would chime in....

Good advice so far guys. This is why I love you guys and I will never shut this board down as long as I live, because you're always there to help one another..

Squirrel,

I highly recommend taking donkey's advice and trying "Spybot Search and Destroy" to see if it finds and removes all your spyware. This is probably the best program for removing spyware. It's very good at digging through your registry and deleting spyware and other crap that scumbags put out there. Give it a shot.

If that doesn't work, I would go with some of grandys advice...It's good advice. I will clarify some of it for you...

If Spybot S&D doesn't fix the issue, try a restore (back to a date before this started happening)...

A disk defrag won't remove spyware or fix your problem. All that a disk defrag does is removes fragments from your hard drive. If you want to know what fragments are..Fragments are holes or spaces that are left in your hard drive when files are deleted. Think of a wall with bricks as your files on your disk (hard drive) and when your remove a brick from the wall, it's the same thing as deleting a file. When you remove a brick a hole is left where the brick was. And, a defrag, just takes all the other bricks and moves them down so there are no holes. This way when the pin that reads the files on your harddrive, it doesn't have to pass over the holes. this speeds up the loading of files. So, that will just help speed up your computer.

If you aren't able to fix this with Spybot Search & Destroy or by doing a backdated system restore, post here and I will try to help you further..

I'd also recommend going to download.com and downloading a program called C Cleaner. It'll wipe out all the spyware and registry stuff that shouldn't be there. I usually run Adaware, then Spybot, then C Cleaner about every other month. Also get an Antivirus program if you don't have one. Grisoft makes one called AVG Free that is pretty good.
