FLORIDA at WASHINGTON

FLA D WILLIS -L vs WAS T OHKA -R The Marlins open up a three game series with the Nationals in Washington. In tonight's pitching matchup, Dontrelle Willis takes the mound for Florida and will oppose Tomo Ohka of Washington. Willis (2-0, 0.00 ERA) pitched a gem in his season debut, tossing the first complete game shutout of the season, as he allowed just five hits with one walk and three K's in a 9-0 win over the Nationals on April 8th. He followed that up with another great performance on April 13th, tossing a complete-game, three-hit shutout of the Phillies in a 4-0 win. He struggled a bit in 2004, going 10-11 with a 4.02 ERA in 32 starts, but he is 5-0 with a 2.04 ERA in April in his career and has yet to allow a run in 18 innings pitched. His two complete games also match his total of a year ago. He usually performs well versus the Expos/Nationals, going 6-2 with a 2.88 ERA in 8 starts. Ohka (1-1, 4.50 ERA) was 3-7 with a 3.40 ERA in 15 starts last season, missing most of the year with a broken arm. He picked up his first win of the season in his last start, allowing three runs on four its with one HR, six walks and 2 K's over 6.0 innings in an 11-4 win at Atlanta. He has never fared well when facing the Marlins, going 1-9 in his career against them, including that 9-0 loss to Willis and the Marlins on April 8th.

SAN FRANCISCO at SAN DIEGO
SFO B TOMKO -R vs SDG J PEAVY -R

Tonight's pitching matchup between the Giants and Padres features Brett Tomko of SF versus Jake Peavy of SD. Tomko (0-2, 5.91 ERA) was 11-7 with a 4.04 ERA in 32 starts in 2004, allowing 98 runs on 196 hits with 19 homers, 64 walks and 108 K's over the course of 194 innings. He was only 4-5 with a 4.98 ERA before the All-Star break, but was 7-2 with a 3.15 ERA in the second half. Tomko has had a rocky start in 2005, but his stats are a bit deceiving. He's only allowed four earned runs over two games, which have both resulted in losses, but the Giants have scored just one run in the 10.2 innings he has pitched so far. Peavy (1-0, 1.32 ERA) had a fine year in 2004, going 15-6 with a 2.27 Major-League low ERA. He looked sharp in his season debut, allowing no runs on 4 hits with 2 walks and 10 strikeouts in 6.2 innings, but he did not get the decision in an eventual 1-0 Padres win over the Pirates. In his last start, he looked just as sharp, allowing two runs on six hits with one HR, one walk and seven K's in an 8-3 win over the Cubs at Wrigley. He did well when facing SF last season, going 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA in five starts and is 5-3 with a 3.86 in ten career starts against them.
SELECTION: SAN DIEGO
