Baseball Today (AP)

Houston at San Francisco (10:15 p.m. EDT). Houston's Wade Miller starts against Damian Moss and the defending National League champions.

STARS Sunday
-- Brett Boone, Mariners, went 3-for-5 with two home runs, including the winning shot in the bottom of the 13th as Seattle beat Texas 4-3.
-- Matthew LeCroy, Twins, hit a three-run homer in Minnesota's 9-3 victory over Toronto.
-- Ricky Ledee, Phillies, hit a three-run homer to cap a 13-run inning in Philadelphia's 13-1 win over Cincinnati.
-- Edgar Renteria, Cardinals, hit two homers and matched his career high with five RBIs in St. Louis' 11-8 win over Houston.
-- Robby Hammock, Diamondbacks, went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs in Arizona's 9-3 victory over Milwaukee.
-- Marvin Bernard, Giants, hit an RBI double in the bottom of the 12th inning, beating the Padres 5-4 and extending San Francisco's best start in 65 years.
ROYAL LOSS
Kansas City lost 6-1 to Cleveland on Sunday, ending baseball's best start in 13 years. Ricardo Rodriguez allowed one run and eight hits in seven innings, stopping the Royals' bid to become the eighth team in history to open 10-0.

BACK ON TRACK
Greg Maddux, off to the worst start of his career, earned his first win of the season Sunday, 7-1 over Florida. Maddux gave up one run and two hits in six innings, lowering his ERA from 11.05 to 8.27. The four-time Cy Young winner lost his first three starts for the first time ever.

RECORD RUNS
Philadelphia scored a team-record 13 runs in the fourth inning to beat Cincinnati 13-1 Sunday. Ricky Ledee hit a three-run homer to complete the inning, which fell two runs short of the NL record. The Phillies' previous mark of 12 runs in an inning was set July 21, 1923, against the Cubs.

FIRST WIN
Bartolo Colon won for the first time with his new team, as the White Sox beat the Tigers 3-2 Sunday. Detroit lost for the 10th time in 11 games. Colon struck out a season-high nine in seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks.

BREAKING TRADITION
The Red Sox wore solid red uniform tops for the first time in franchise history in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Orioles. Nomar Garciaparra hit a solo homer that hit the light tower above the Green Monster and bounced back onto the field, depriving a fan in the seats above The Wall of catching the first homer hit into the new section.

BANGIN' BAGWELL
Houston's Jeff Bagwell homered twice in a 11-8 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday, giving him 28 career multihomer games. Bagwell has two multihomer games this season, the other one on opening day.

ZITO STOPPED
Anaheim beat Oakland 8-2 Sunday, snapping Barry Zito's 10-game winning streak. Prior to this series, the Athletics' starting pitchers won 31 of 33 decisions, but the Angels roughed up Oakland's rotation for 19 runs and 24 hits in a combined 16-plus innings.

IT'S A START
Elmer Dessens became the first Diamondbacks starter to win this year, beating Milwaukee 9-3 Sunday. The right-hander, acquired as part of a four-team trade in December, allowed seven hits and two runs in 6 2-3 innings.

STILL GOING
The Giants dramatically extended their best start in 65 years to 11-1, beating the Dodgers 5-4 on Sunday night. Marvin Benard hit an RBI double off the wall in the 12th inning to keep San Francisco on pace with the best starts of the New York Giants, who went 12-1 in 1938 and 18-1 in 1918.

SPEAKING
"If that's how he wants to come into the league, fine. I'd like to see him do it when he has 20 wins. If he ever lasts that long." -- Kansas City's Michael Tucker, after Cleveland rookie pitcher Ricardo Rodriguez taunted Tucker and the Royals' from the mound for failing to go 10-0.

SEASONS April 14

1917 -- Ed Cicotte of the Chicago White Sox pitched an 11-0 no-hitter over the St. Louis Browns.

1925 -- The Cleveland Indians opened the season with a 21-14 victory over the St. Louis Browns, the most runs scored by one club on opening day. The Indians scored 12 runs in the eighth inning when the Browns made five errors. Browns first baseman George Sisler had four errors in the game.

1967 -- Boston rookie Bill Rohr lost a no-hit bid in his first major league start when Elston Howard singled in the ninth inning for the New York Yankees' only hit in a 3-0 loss to the Red Sox.
