New York Mets at Cincinnati
New York Mets at Cincinnati
Last I saw, the oddsmakers had the total at 8 1/2. Mike Pelfrey for the Mets is 8-6 with a 3.64 ERA. In the other dug out Edinson Volquez is 12-3 and boasts a 2.29 ERA.
I was beginning to think that Pelfrey was not all the way human with the performances he has given in his last three starts. In 22 innings pitched, he has given up 1 run on 15 hits, with 16 SOs no homers and only 2 BB. One of those games was against a hot St Louis team, that could only muster the one run. He keeps the ball down and in, therefore a lot of ground balls. In those games he tallied a 65.6 % strike count. Pretty damn good.
Edinson Volquez does not give much up either. Between the two they have only given up 9 HRs (unbelievable!!!)
I give Pelfrey the edge, and if this game goes over 6 runs, I will be quite surprised.
