LeBron and All Things "The Decision"
I almost put this in the whiners forum, but I thought you guys might have an opinion on this thing. Here's mine.
LeBron James is a cocksucker. For the last few years I’ve fought for him in the “best player in the NBA” and the “LeBron vs Kobe” debates, but never again. LeBron is now the guy I openly root against. I don’t begrudge him for choosing to leave Cleveland but there is a right way to do things (ala Kevin Durrant) and then there is this media rim job. LeBron needlessly strung along an entire fanbase and gave them the middle finger by making their breakup outrageously public. Nothing that would have happened tonight would have made LeBron a sympathetic figure. He's already gone past the point of no return. He's a cocksucker. This is probably the most memoriable thing that has happened in this guy's career.
In other news, these were some of the comments I read about this on facebook/twitter:
- Art Modell supports LeBron 100%
- Shocking...choosing to play in a state with no income tax!
- Well I guess the Cleveland Tourism video is going to need an adjustment
- I love the embarrassingly empty smattering of applause after the anti-climactic announcement.
I think people clapped more enthusiastically at Adolf Hitler's & Eva Braun's wedding reception.
- So Cleveland isn't celebrating the Browns signing Bobby Engram today?
- May he have just as much success as that other Miami sports hero, Dan Marino.
- I can't believe this whole LeBron thing is overshadowing the news that the Celtics finally signed an Irish guy.

decided to copy and paste because I have a feeling the letter will be retracted.
Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;
As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.
This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.
Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.
The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.
There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.
You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.
You have given so much and deserve so much more.
In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:
"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"
You can take it to the bank.
If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.
Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.
Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.
This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.
But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.
The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.
Just watch.
Sleep well, Cleveland.
Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....
I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:
DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....
Dan Gilbert
Majority Owner
Cleveland Cavaliers
"let me get this straight...you took all the money you made franchising your name, and bet it AGAINST the Harlem Globetrotters?!"
"Ohhhhhhh, I thought the generals were due!...C'mon, hes spinning the ball on his finger! Just take it!" -Krusty the Klown -

Jesus Dan Gilbert...Give me a freaking break. You're just mad because you can't make another billion off him. Stop your whining. That's the way it goes. You could have offered him more money too, but you didn't. Sour grapes....from crybaby billionare who just lost his golden goose.
IMO, Cleveland doesn't own LeBron just because he was born there. He can go where he wants and sign wherever he wants. But, if you don't think the tax benefits in Miami played a major role in his decision, you are dreaming.
I always thought LeBron cared more about his personal finances, image, and own sense of self-importance then he did winning. I still think that is the case.
As for this TV show on ESPN last night, that's just typical ESPN behavior...suckling every last dollar out of anything in sports that warrents attention from sports fans. This is what TV and media has become in Amerca. I turned it on 15 minutes late as I figued that's how long it would take before he made his decision, then I turned it off. I do not care that much about LeBron james to sit and watch him talk for 30 minutes and have other people talk about him for another 30 minutes. I have a life.
As a side note, my friend who is big LeBron fan told me that he actually believes that if LeBron had the choice of being the richest man in the world though successes outside of basketball or winning one nba title, that he would chose the NBA title. People actually believe that this guy doesn't care about money and the fact that he signed for 30 million less is just going to fuel that perception of him.
I really never thought LeBron James was good enough to win a title by himself. I still don't think that the Heat will win the East next year either.

I think the Bulls will be better of without him.
He'll make that $30 million back in endorsements during his stay in Miami.

lebron sucks.
he effed cleveland.
and while i hated dan gilbert's letter and wish he wouldn't have, you can't blame him for putting that out there.
lebron strung him, and the entire city fanbase around. leaking news to the local media about how they still had the lead, telling larry king the same thing, and then going and making a mockery of professional sports by doing that 1 hour debacle. and espn? shame on you for enabling that.
i love that every sportswriter in america oblitered him and his "image' the next day. he took a huge hit and didn't see it coming.
he also turned in his balls to go and be a sidekick. doesn't matter what he does now, he can't throw it back in our face. you won a ring in miami? oooooooh, big deal. takes a man, doesn't it?
i have to defend cleveland on the bandwagon thing. i know attendance was poor, but people often forget the size of cleveland, the financial state of cleveland the last 20 years when factoring that in. nba tickets are really expensive. but they have a lot of good fans.
this thing was in the bag for 2 years, so for lebron to go and make a spectacle of the entire offseason like that, it's a joke. it's the ultimate act of selfishness.
and to cover it up by giving a portion of the proceeds from the "decision" to charity (not all of the 6m went to charity, not even 2m went to the boys and girls clubs, someone made a whollle lot of money that night and it wasn't the b&g club)
the nba is about 2 or 3 moves away from becoming a 2 or 3 team league that nobody cares about. it's bad enough that it was a 4 or 5 team league last season.
i love the cavs, always will, and i was never an lbj fan/cavs fan that hated kobe, but now i like him a bit more, i hope he jams it down all 3 of their throats.
figured some wanted to hear my take.
