Ive never seen such line movement in totals, or in anything really. I copied and pasted some of the games that show huge changes in the totals between the opening number, and 20 hours past the open. (the games I left out were virtually unchanged.) Everything was set way too low, (except EWA/NMex) now the bookmakers leave themselves open for slaughter, being bombarded heavily on Overs.

At this point in the season, I think its safe to assume...if youre going to bet the Over, do it early. And if you like the Under, wait. Thats not to say things wont change as bettors and books get to know the teams a little better as the season goes on.

The only question I have is, does this only happen during the first few days of cbb, where very little is known by oddsmakers, who have to scramble every time some wiseguy or insider wants to get down? We'll have to wait and see...

very interesting. oddsmakers have a tough time to set lines for college in the opening weeks because like you mentioned, they dont know teams very well. a quater of their time goes into college lines because they have to use the rest of the time to set nfl, nba, and even nhl lines. the best time to bet college is in the opening weeks i believe.. thats why im rolling with maryland and oregon.. i'll either be way off to right on the money.. well see what happens.

as far as I know, there are different oddsmakers who specialize in their respective sports, and make lines for only that. Although it wouldnt surprise me if there are consultants whose input is accepted for all sports during the busy season like this.
