Brutal Day!!!!

Wow, what an absolutely brutal day/week. Went 0-5 in last 5 games down $1900. I can't believe how bad this weekend was. Anyone have a good week. I saw JT was 3-0-1 with some very interesting picks. I might have to give up the game and just follow you like matthew mccoughnahey. Or maybe ill stick to the NBA.

grandmaster will become famous soon enough; and up and coming hot prospect with natural talents!
We've all been there AK. Sometimes they just dont fall right.

I looked at your card this week, and I have a few suggestions to take with a grain of salt...(as I am the last person to be giving advice the way my season is going.)

First, try to think of your bankroll for what it is. Its your hard earned cash that you use as a tool for investing for profit. It is not spending cash, and this isnt Keno. That being said, every time you put any amount of money on the line, you should honestly expect to double up. (In football...anyway. This doesnt necessarily apply in hockey or MLB, where a lot of successful cappers look for value in ML's.)

Therefore Id stay away from moneylines. You had Purdue+270 You were on the right side, you capped it correctly, and still lost. Theres nothing more irritating. Next time take the 8, and if you want to win 1000, then risk 1100. Dont let the books sucker you into bets like these, because its hard enough to pick games SU.

Id also stay away from parlays. (and yes, I am aware of the irony of advising against parlays when I place an imposible one every week.)............

And I'm throwing a little Parlay out there just for fun.

Indiana -7
Iowa Over 46
Purdue Under 51.5

(300 to win 1800)......................quote

You almost hit this one, and its kinda like a slot machine that shows the "jackpot" in 2 columns, and a near miss on the third one. It makes you think you can hit, and you want to play more. But the reality of the situation is you lost 300 bucks, that you wish you had back. Again, you were on the right side in 2 of these games, and would have profited in 3 individual bets. Sharps very rarely place parlays. Its the public that sees a potential reward, and goes nuts. Theres a reason the books give 6 to 1 odds on these things. And trust me, they make big money on parlays. They wouldnt offer em if they didnt, right?

The most important piece of advice I can give is to not let a bad day affect how you look at the games. Bad losses, and losing days can make you second guess yourself, or start to chase losses, thinking "I cant possibly lose again." Im not sure if this was the case in betting the Rutgers game or not, but its good to keep in mind...Going on tilt, and chasing losses is a tough habit to break, and can be tough to realize youre even doing sometimes. But its entirely too risky when the reward is just to get back to even. If you dont feel right, its best to sit out. If youre not in the right frame of mind, you wont make good decisions. (this applies in all aspects of life, not just gambling.)

This is a tough game to beat, but its a long season, and if you do your dd, and protect your bankroll, youll take advantage of some of the gifts you'll find the bookies willing to give.

Hang in there, Alaska.

and Good Luck.

Grandmaster...

For you to take your time and tell me that information is awesome. Shows the kind of character you have. I honestly had absolutely no clue how to bet on sports. And you are absolutely right, after a little hot streak I started to want more and more, never realizing that the way I got there in the first place was through strict dd and patience. I graduated from school a year ago, moved to alaska for a job and got really bored. I used to play football in college so I never really bet on the games. It was D3 though, so I wasn't anything major.

But thank you so much. I will take that advice, revamp my offense and prepare for the long run instead of the short. It just sucks when you make $2K then want $5K then $10K as fast as possible... but when you first start betting you are as precise and cautious as possible. I still have a good amount of money left over from basketball so from now on Im going to start managing my bankroll. I only have one play for tomorrow!!

Thanks again!! I hope we get to know eachother some more through the years!

Keep your head up AK. We all go through bad days/weeks. In fact, I was 0-6 on CFB last week and lost plenty so I didn't play NFL last week. I only played a single game yesterday and just 2 today. Luckily, all those 3 cashed up. All I'm saying is, don't loose hope. Take a break if you needed to....

As someone on here always say "It's a marathon, not a sprint".

I'm in the same boat AK. I've actually been on bad slide for the last 2 weeks. I play poker a lot and these bad runs happen there too. I think we all could be better at money management and patience. Keep your head it you'll play through this.

Grandy,

That is some great advice. That is the kind of advice that every player here should remind themselves of. I have been having a terrible football season as well. Take a break if neededm akphidelt. One thing I have always noticed when I am on my hot streaks, that it always feels like a grind. In my opinion, if it doesn't feel like you are grinding out your wins, then you are doing something wrong.
