Sens @ Avs

The Colorado Avalanche may have only lost two games straight up (SU) in regulation time this season, but they’re not the same Avs fans are used to seeing in Denver.

The Avs are a costly 4-8 against the spread (ATS) and they've won only twice in their last eight contests (2-3-3). They own the second-worst power play in the league (11.1 percent) and their penalty killing unit ranks a sorry 23rd (81.5 percent). On Wednesday, Colorado looks for its first win of the season at home when it faces the Ottawa Senators.

The Senators are coming off a huge 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings, which snapped a four-game winless streak. Ottawa has struggled to find the net this season, ranking 23rd in offensive production with a paltry 2.33 goals per game. Fortunately, the club ranks fifth in the league in defense, and as a result the 'under' is a lucrative 8-2 in the Sens last 10 matchups.

The Senators will have a better-than-normal chance to light up the Avs in this meeting, as Patrick Roy is expected to miss his second straight game with a sore hip. Backup David Aebischer will likely get the nod after allowing four goals on just 21 shots against the Vancouver Canucks Monday night. Colorado lost that affair 4-2.

Ottawa will get a boost with the return of veteran Radek Bonk to the lineup. Bonk missed the last five games with a chest injury, but has skated all week and will play Wednesday. Rookie Jason Spezza could be bumped from the lineup as a result, but he hasn't been relegated to the minors just yet.

Patrick Lalime should start for his 10th straight game between the pipes for Ottawa. Lalime has an impressive 2.21 goals against average and a .904 save percentage this season. He and the Senators will play on three complete days of rest for the first time this season - a spot in which they are 1-0 this term.

Ottawa's power play is clicking at a potent 26.1 percent clip over its last five outings and the Senators have tallied on the man advantage at least once in each of their last eight tilts.

The Sens will have to take advantage of the Avs on special teams if they hope to beat a hungry Colorado team, eager for its first home win. Avalanche captain, Joe Sakic, is also red-hot and was named NHL Player of the Week last week. The home team has won the last five meetings between these squads.
