Zorro, the better team has to have some kind of edge otherwise everyone would just bet the Marlins today and Vegas would go out of business. It's the same thing in football. When the Patriots are playing the Lions, don't you think its fair that you have to lay some points when you bet the Pats. If you want the patriots straight up, you have to lay more and win less. You need to play the run line zorro. I've read your posts about how you think the run line is a "sucker bet" but have you seen the math on it??

Why do people pick dogs?? Because they pay out above +100 meaning you'd win more than your risking, and then over time if you hit 50% of your bets (or even less) you'll end up ahead of the game.

The run line isn't even that different. Most runlines pay out over +100 just like a dog.

Roughly 30% of games end up in one run games, favorites win about 66% of the time, so out of the 30% of those games 20% of total games played are won by the favorite by one run (not 100% accurate percentages but a good rough estimate. 20% means 1 out of 5.

So if the favorite wins 5 games and you bet the run line on those 5 games you should on average lose only once on the RL because the favorite only won by 1 run.


So if you're still following up to this point by taking the run line on a favorite you're getting the same payout as you would by selecting a dog (roughly) but you can still pick the favorite to win and you're only risking that the favorite doesn't win by 1. If you pick the favorite and the dog wins then it wouldn't have mattered if you had picked the favorite on the RL or the ML, but if the favorite wins the game the odds are in your favor that they'll cover the run line 80% of the time. This would have applied to the marlins today

Lets take NY. They put out a line...the betting is one million on both sides...great....they keep the Vig of 100,000.

One team has 200 grand too much even though they moved the line. They "SELL" the 200 grand to another book.

I'm not saying they cover the RL 80% of the time all the time, I"m saying when they win the game they cover the RL 80% of the time.


If you need more proof look at todays games. Out of all the games today 9 favorites won, of those 9 favorites 7 covered the run line and 2 did not. 2/9 = 22% did not cover the runline, 78% of favorites that won did cover. Trust me, I've been keeping track of it and its a consistent 80/20 number

It's the only way to bet the favorite and stay ahead of the book instead of just taking a favorite at say -150 ML or worse.
