If you love good baseball, you’ve seen plenty of it in the first two games of this series between the Dodgers and the Cardinals. Runs have been at a premium, and that’s why St. Louis has figured out how to hold serve at home and beat the two best pitchers that the Dodgers are going to throw their way in the interim. That said, this isn’t a series that is over by any stretch of the imagination, as a road team still hasn’t won a game yet. The Dodgers have a decent chance to get all three of these games at home back, and if they can win these next two especially, there will be a chance to close it out with LHP Clayton Kershaw and RHP Zack Greinke on the mound in Games 5 and 6. There’s a long way to go to get there, especially with RHP Adam Wainwright on the hill for the Cards in Game 3. Wainwright hasn’t been flawless, but he has been darn close in the first two games that he has pitched in this series. This is the second time that he is going to be facing off with a rookie. He beat RHP Gerrit Cole in the first round of the playoffs in Game 5, and now he gets to meet LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu.
The first instinct has to be to want to back the Cardinals in this game with their ace on the mound, but we have to remember that this is also the first time that he is going to be pitching on the road in these playoffs as opposed to at Busch Stadium. Ryu was nuts at home this year, posting a 7-4 record and a 2.61 ERA in his 100 innings of work. He didn’t pitch that well at home in Game 3 against the Atlanta Braves, and he didn’t even throw long enough to get a decision in the game. However, remember that the St. Louis lineup has only scored four runs in two games as well. If that keeps up, the magic is going to have to end eventually. There’s no better day than Monday for that to happen.
