The 2012 MLB playoffs continue on Thursday in Washington, where the Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals are going to do battle with one another. Don’t miss our MLB playoff picks and our Cardinals vs. Nationals Game 4 NLDS predictions for the baseball playoffs!
Just as quickly as the Nationals got into the playoffs, they could be on the way out if they drop this one. They might be favored in this game, but the only reason that they are getting the nod is because of fact that they are at home and are playing for their lives this year.
The problem that the Nationals have in this one is that they clearly don’t have the better of these two pitchers. Kyle Lohse is the man that was on the mound for the Wild Card game against the Atlanta Braves, and he is probably the best bullet left in the pistol for Manager Mike Matheny. He went 16-3 during the regular season, and he also proves to be the only man who successfully beat Kris Medlen this year. Meanwhile, a man that probably shouldn’t even be in the starting rotation, Ross Detwiler, is going to be the starter in this one. He is the man that gets a spot in the postseason rotation now that Stephen Strasburg isn’t pitching any longer this year. Remember that Detwiler went just 10-8 this year, and he only led the team to a 16-11 record in his 27 games, which is below the norm for what we saw out of the Nationals pitchers this year.
In the end, the MLB odds in this one are clearly skewed. St. Louis should be a favorite in this one and a favorite by a comfortable margin at that. This is the Cardinals’ first pitcher against Washington’s fifth, and it isn’t going to be pretty. In the end, the Cards just overmatch the Nats, and it’s going to show on Thursday, the final game of this series in our eyes.
