Our 2012 MLB playoffs picks continue on Wednesday night in Oakland, where the Oakland Athletics battle it out with the Detroit Tigers. Join us for our MLB predictions for what should be a remarkable Game 4 of the ALDS.

There is a point that we have to recognize a better team when we see it. Detroit is just a better team than Oakland is, and the ALDS should have been over last night if not for an awesome catch by Coco Crisp in the outfield.

Tonight, 16-7 Max Scherzer is going to take on 7-1 AJ Griffin in what should be the best pitching matchup of the series. Griffin was one of the best young pitchers in the game over the course of the last two months of the campaign, as he led his team to a 12-3 record in 15 games. The rookie had a 3.06 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP, and it wasn’t all that often that he put his team into a position to lose games, especially here at home. However, Scherzer had a ton of strikeouts over the course of the year and, according to Sabermetrics, was one of the better pitchers in baseball. The righty led his team to 21 victories this year, and his 3.74 ERA and 1.27 WHIP are nothing to bat an eyelash at.

The Tigers aren’t going to get shut out for a second straight game, but we are becoming concerned that the A’s might be in for a fourth straight dud of an offensive showing. When push comes to shove, we just think that the Tigers are the better of these two teams, and we think that they have the better of the two pitchers as well. Give us the better pitcher and the better team, and of course we’re going to take that squad as an underdog regardless of where this game is being played.

Detroit Tigers @ Oakland Athletics Pick: Detroit Tigers +118
