August 27th MLB Picks: San Francisco Giants @ Colorado Rockies
Date: Tuesday, August 27th, 8:40 ET
Location: Coors Field, Denver, CO
Giants vs. Rockies On TV: MLB Network
San Francisco Giants (Yusmeiro Petit) +112
Colorado Rockies (Chad Bettis) -120
It sort of feels like the oddsmakers just sent this one in without doing all that much in the way of research. A game at Coors Field featuring a pair of pitchers who most have never heard of must feature a ‘total’ of 10.5, right? Forget about RHP Yusmeiro Petit and RHP Chad Bettis for a second. What really needs to be talked about are these two offenses. San Fran has scored more than five runs in a game exactly four times in its last 37 games, and two of those four games ended with exactly six runs. The last time that a game featured a ‘total’ of higher than 7.5 that the Giants eclipsed was back on July 31st. Since then, ‘under’ bettors are 4-0 in games lined at 8 or higher that San Fran was involved in, including last night’s 6-1 loss to these Rockies. One might think that Colorado should be playing a lot better offense at home than on the road, and there might be a degree of merit to that. That being said though, the team has averaged just 3.85 runs per game in its last 13 games, and it hasn’t scored more than six in a game in that stretch. The bottom line is that someone is going to have to get to at least six in this one, and we aren’t all that sure that, regardless of who the pitchers are on the mound, that these two teams have the ability to do it. Play the ‘under’.
